As a genealogist, I have enjoyed hearing about new discoveries of American relatives of Barack Obama. As we all know, he was born in Hawaii, and his father's half of his family tree is from Kenya. His mother's American half is impressive and goes back to the patriots of colonial days. I thought someone might be interested in the diversity of the geography of his American ancestry. Going back twelve generations, we find that his roots are mainly English, though he has an Irish ancestor named Kearney , and a French ancestor named Duvall. Obama had direct American ancestors in the following States: Illinois-1, Delaware-1, Ohio-2, Missouri-2, Oklahoma-2, Massachusetts-4, Kentucky-4, Pennsylvania-5, New Jersey-7, Kansas-9, Maryland-11, and Virginia-26. And, for those who wonder about his blue collar heritage, he comes from a long line of Overalls (going back at least to William Overall born in 1680 in Virginia). The New England Genealogical Society says that Obama is distantly related to former Presidents Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, Gerald Ford, and George H. W. Bush. He is also related to Winston Churchill, Robert E. Lee, and Brad Pitt! Its about time that Hawaii the fiftieth State can say it has a President who was born there. Oh, by the way, McCain was born in Panama.
