Halleluya - The conservative Times Herald published my letter to the editor under their big headline story about McCain's visit to our Montco Community College to announce his new economic proposals. I kept my critique of his economic proposals simple and folksy, given the audience. I am capable of something more academic, but right now we are trying to win an election.

My Times Herald comment :
The Joys of Tax Cuts
McCain's proposal to rescue the economy by cutting capital gains when most are suffering capital losses is laughable. McCain is using the financial crisis to cut taxes for the wealthy, who may be among the few with capital gains. Like President Bush, McCain claims these tax cuts will stimulate the economy enough to pay off the enormous federal debts from Iraq and Bush's recent $800 billion bailout plan. We all know how well the Bush Tax cuts have stimulated the economy, but apparently McCain believes we are still dumb enough to believe in his tax cuts that will mainly benefit his rich circle of friends. Still many people want tax cuts no matter what. What they don't realize is that the subsequent Republican "borrow and spend" policies will force a devaluation of the dollar which will hit your pocketbook just as hard as a tax. The rich can get around this dollar problem by moving their wealth abroad, which many have. So if you are rich vote McCain. If you are merely middle class, watch out.
Plus, why does McCain only protect savings for six months? Does that mean we just wait a few months to run on the bank?
