Fund Raising Help Please!!! Goal: $30,000

Hi,

I am organizing a fund raiser for Obama in Salt Lake City. I already have an auditorium reserved for May 2nd and my thinking was to have some big name speakers to draw people in to buy tickets for and also to collect extra contributions.

I have done fund raising in the past but never for a politician. I've already into a question I can't answer to find out how much they're going to charge me for the auditorium and that is if we are for profit or non-profit. I would think a presidential campaign would be non-profit but then she needs some identifying number.

I have contacted several people I know in Obama's campaign and have not heard back from anyone. I also have filed the necessary form for an appearance request for Obama but I understand that takes a while to hear back on.

Anyway, I'm really needing some advice from people experienced with this - and volunteers for the committee too!

Hi, Tresa. You will need to be careful that you are following campaign finance laws properly and it would be a good idea to speak with campaign staff to be sure proper protocol is followed. Obama does not take any money from PACs, so you would not be able to organize this under the umbrella of any group. I suspect only individual contributions can be made, and any expenses for the event would count as in-kind contributions by individuals.
