After some soul searching and looking at what being a Republican means these days it was clear to me that the interests of the Republican brand do not fit what I belive in my heart of hearts.
I am very much for the little guy who is struggling to make it on a middle class salary, the mother who is raising her kids on her own, the small businessman who is wondering how he will afford health care for his employees.
We live in a smaller world these days where we are connected in ways that only our forefathers would have never imagined. The people of the world look to our democracy as the beacon of progress and giving power to the people.
How we are able to be a moral compas in the world when we fail to take care of our own peoples basic needs. When our President seems to be more interested in going after a ruthless dictator who posed no real threat to us instead of going after a cult leader in the caves of Afghanistan.
Although I remain more conservative I know we need to do better in the world. As a Christian our leader must reflect the values of Jesus who showed us a new way. God calls for us to take care of the widows and orphans and others in need and also to inspire them to want to make a better life for themselves and their families. Doing a days work, going to a job and realizing the American dream.
Our president should do something about rising oil prices and our foreign energy dependence. Our president should do something about those who are loosing their homes because of corprate greed. He does not seem to be fully into our domestic agenda because we are spending billions on a war that is now a war that was not needed at all.
I am announcing that I have politically come home to be a Democrat. After a 8 year dance with the Republican party who seems to be weakend by a president who has no real solutions and the Republican candidate who might be more of the same I am not willing to take that gamble. I am switching parties and becoming a Democrat with a center/right lean. I belive them to be Blue Dogs. I also give my full support to Barack Obama. Man this does feel good.
