I'm still quite miffed at Barack for all his 180 degree changes recently. Actually, I'm in a snit. I might work out of it. But I'm an unhappy Obamamaniac right now.

I'm not the only one. I've talked to other BHO supporters who are no longer "fired up, ready to go" as they were because of Barack's pandering to the Right. We'll vote for him but he has to get back on the "change" and "hope" track if he wants us to get off our butts and our wallets.

Barack, I'm just sayin'.

Remember he is a uniter. To be a uniter, he has to compromise a little. I was miffed at FISA, too.
But after investigating and asking around, I've come to realize that it is a good compromise. Please get fired up.

I think the bill was bad and it wasn't really a comprimise at all. I do think he did it because it was going to pass and he would rather take the hits from us if he could disarm the right a bit. So I am less fired up also but I'm still on board. The one thing I notice is that I now refer to him as Obama and never Barack any more. I guess I don't feel like we are friends.

But the bill still stinks.

Barack got 49% of the vote in the primaries/caucuses. He and Hillary were statistically tied among the roughly 36 million voters in the primaries? Did you guys honestly think he could win the POTUS election without doing something to attract new votes? If you did then you weren't and aren't being realistic.

I have done a lot of soul searching on this issue (Obama's turn to the center). I am a leftist and up until this election have never voted for a mainstream politician. Up until now I have always taken the position 'they are all the same', 'no politician is really progressive’, 'I will wait until the people wake up', ‘if s/he isn’t perfectly progressive . . .’ etc.

I have come to the following conclusion: American is actually really conservative. The fact that even Obama is 'too much' for (it now appears) about half the country is testament of this fact. Just look at the electoral map on CNN to see this. And you know, there really is a difference between Bush/McCain and Obama – big differences. I support Obama not because he is the most left candidate (he isn’t) but because he is the most left candidate that can win. But that is looking more and more tenuous. We on the left always do this, we always fragment just as we get close. We have to get him in there. Then we can pressure him back to the left.

Picture this: there are people out there right now that when given a choice between Obama and McCain actually don’t see this as an obvious decision. They ponder . . . “hmm . . tough call”. (wow) It is these people that he now has to court. So yes, he can’t talk to them like he would you or me. I don’t take offence. If he just does the things that he can that he lists on his issues page (for example check out his position of credit cards!) we will have taken a step (despite your legitimate complaint about FISA) towards making a progressive nation. I can’t take it, just can’t, if I have to sit through four more years of conservatism and have the whole world wonder if we will ever find our way. He needs our support now.
