Hello all,
As alot of you know I try to do my part to spread the word about Obama by trying to write stories about what I think this man could bring to the table for America (and for all of you new to the blog...welcome). I post on MSM stories with whatever time I can muster to try to win the votes of those trying to make an honest decision on whom to support by confronting them with reason and the truth. I would be thrilled if any of my articles could help you convince even one person so please spread them around through your own networks if you like them and help me reach more people (Obama's moment in time went over pretty well at my families Thanksgiving dinner :) ). I will post the last 4 I wrote below. I don't mean to be so forward but it's crunch-time so I had to give it a shot. Thanks for the help guys and have a great night. It's after midnight here so I'm knocking off. Lots to do tomorrow.

I meet Gov. Kaine shortly after he was elected at a bagel shop. He held the door for my wife, surprising since he had his security patrol, tlked to me for a minute and then continued on. I was impressed with his comfort and ease. Kaine is a real plus here in VA. However, I would really like to see Barack chose former VA gov. Mark Warner for VP. Warner took a state, basically bankrupt following George Allen, and turned it into a business friendly, financially sound state.

Kevin, I think Warner would be a good choice, but he can win the seat for the Senate and we really need him there more right now, some may argue.
I think for many reasons Warner would be a good choice, but I think he will have to pick someone possibly from a die hard red state that could help win votes, VA is a purple state.

This is the first that I have seen Jesse Jackson Jr. I liked this part:
"God keeps giving us chances. South Carolina you now have a chance to make a statement....A chance to forge a new history"
I so hope that everyone in the early states appreciates the important role that they play in lifting politics from being a "game" to consensus building between folks of differing opinions for the good of all.
Thank you to Rep Jackson Jr and Gov. Kaine for their drive, passion and leadership. Their words will inspire many to back Barack I am sure.

Sadly, in Iowa I'm not sure at all that we do, but I do think we are raising a much more conscientious if not more awakened generation who are coming of age. With a history of limited student participation, I feel as if our student votes will indeed be "rockin" this year, and have hope that we may even reach a 10% mark for participation in the caucus! I'll keep doing my part to educate!!!

Please keep in mind I'm stuck at home with my foot in the air. When I DO get to be out, always always in Obama shirts, I get lots of smiles and am able to educate a lot of people about the caucus process, and have brought a few around to caucusing for Senator Obama.
Mostly, tho, I am on phone detail, and mostly in my precinct. Also, I talk to people via email who are friends and family....I am cautiously optimistic, and have several who are impressed with the personal phone calls and the organization on the ground for Senator Obama. "Robo-call" is fast becoming an obscene word, while our positive, respectful and responsive message seems to be winning over some who are undecided.
The polls may be fairly close to accurate, tho don't count people like me who are newly registered Democrats (I'm an Independent) and those who are under 30 or so who have only cell phones. They often miss those who have never caucused before.
My take on it is that there will be a big difference between the cities and the rural areas in terms of the competition, as the rural areas are far more ferociously independent, and where John Edwards has been 'at home' for 5 years. I also suspect that some precincts will have a delegate or two for minor candidates. However, I am pretty confident that we are the strong second choice candidate for nearly every other campaign except for the Clinton camp, and even among them we are second choice for many.
And...keep in mind, no one can predict the outcome of the Iowa caucuses with any accuracy at all, unless they are doing so after the caucus. Period.

Marynurse,
This 62yr old grandma from the midwest believes our wonderful youth of today WILL come thru.
As a "Ground Trooper" here in MO, I've seen the excitement, dedication & passion our great young people of today have shown. How the students come out in "droves" for events, how they hold fundraisers, & volunteer. All the work they are doing...Spreading the good word about Obama & registering their peer to vote.
Their "energy" is having a very positive effect for Obama & his campaign.
They realize that things don't have to stay the same as they are any longer --- That THEIR voice is heard, That THEIR vote WILL matter---That THEY have a say in THEIR future with Obama !!
If there are any SFBO, ST LOUIS U, WASHINGTON U, UMSL, or MIZZOU students or allumni reading this ---Thank You again for your support & together we WILL win this thing!!!

The people here dont really think we need adds from the politicians, but from what I have heard the Obama add is a particular favorite. Because it has no "politicing" in it. I was happy to see it and hoping for it to be just as it is.
That is one thing about this campaign. It is being run flawlessly. Everytime I hold my breath and hope they do one thing or the other they roll it out with in a few days.
It is astonishing to me.

12 tips for watching the Iowa caucuses
What to look for from now until Jan. 3
By Chuck Todd
Political Director
NBC News
updated 10:14 a.m. ET, Sun., Dec. 23, 2007
12 days to the Iowa Caucuses with Christmas falling in the middle making for a perfect theme column. So without further ado...
Here are 12 things (rather than 12 gifts) to watch for while we wait until that cold wintry night to see which candidate's been naughty and which one's been nice.
1. Turnout: this is the biggest wild card and the easiest crutch for even the most well-informed observer to lean on. The fact is, two of the three major Democratic campaigns are counting on turning out new caucus-goers to win. Obama's trying to turn independents and younger voters into likely caucus goers while Clinton is trying to turn out women of all ages. Only Edwards is trying to go old school and sticking to folks familiar with the process.
...
2. Shenanigans:
...
rumors have been flying that Clinton's folks would rather lose to Edwards than Obama.
...
5. Weather: ... the weather. That's right, there's no one thing the candidates have less control over than mother nature. If there's an ice storm in Iowa on Jan. 3, then Edwards and Huckabee probably will be feeling pretty good about the results.
...
12. Beware of the anecdote: anecdotes are the crack for campaigns and reporters in the final days of the caucuses. Here are some from four years ago that I remembering lingering on too long: "Edwards doesn't have enough precinct captains ... Kerry's crowds look stagnant ... Dean's getting the largest crowds ... Dean has more 55,000 'ones.'" Anyway, you get my point. The press has learned a thing or two from last caucuses. Notice there's no more false reporting about which campaign has the most "1s" or "2s." In case you're wondering, a "1" is a definite caucus-goer who is definitely going to support you. As campaigns learned from four years ago, Iowans are too polite to tell a nice young man or woman on the phone that they definitely WON'T support their candidacies. That's why you aren't seeing campaigns makes "1s" and "2s" claims this time around.

I've also been wondering whether Obama may get a small bounce at the poll off his chrimas ad.
He's the only candidate that put his family on his chrismas ad and many Iowans may appreciate the fact that he presented his entire family to the people of Iowa.
I hope we see a boost because of this ad since i believe it's clearly the best out of all of them and it really humanizes the candidate and shows Iowans that he has a very stable family unlike Hillary and Bill Clinton who's a serial womanizer.

You know you are right. The Senator is the only one that included his family in his Christmas Ad, which tells us that he puts family at the top, so any issues having to do with family (children, wife-woman) will also be at the forefront. This also shows that he is proud of his family.

I absolutely love that video Christmas card.
I made my whole family sit down and watch it when they were here for an Early Chistmas gathering. They haven't been paying that much attention to the race, but were impressed with how at ease and articulate Michelle seems.
They already knew that Barack is calm, knowlegable and at ease. But it was their little girls that absolutely bowled my family over. They did't say much, but the WAY they said their greetin, they are clearly NICE, warm and kind [besides being as cute as the dickens.] They speak volumes about their parents.

Laura Hubka, on the last blog at the bottom (go read it, it's great!) reminded me of what, after the JJ dinner, I came to understand was the foundation of my EMOTIONAL reason for supporting Barack; I've talked repeatedly about the mental reasons for supporting him, and I've FULLY investigated him and his opponents to a lesser extent, and KNOW he's the right guy!!! But that emotional part, that he so readily taps...that didn't really 'hit me' until on my way home at 2AM from the JJ dinner...
My son has special needs. My mother and grandmother live on fixed incomes and either already blind or facing blindness and the inherent increase in need for services. My health is good, (usually), and I have dug and continue to dig myself out of years of destructive behavior patterns. I'm just an average person. I know there are others whose lives are far more affected by crises and by trauma than mine, and I sincerely don't know how they do it. I know that I so desperately want to be able to help them to get what they deserve, but not just hand it to them.
My son touches my heart every day. He will never be independent, and he will always need someone's care and comfort, based on his birth and early childhood experiences with a mentally ill and chemically dependent family system.
I am afraid for the kind of world we will leave him if we DON'T have a President Obama. I'm afraid that silly season will rage on for years to come. I have hope and a desperate yearning for the sort of leadership that Senator Obama shows us each and every day. HE is the man I want to follow in dealing with our enemies, leading our troops, directing the comfort and aid to those here at home, as part of his constitutional and personal responsibilities.
America, our moment REALLY IS now! Let's end silly season together!!!

I am so glad I got to meet you and even though I was down there on the floor taking pictures of Barack and you were stuck with your bad foot in a chair in the stands, it meant so much to me to give you a hug and see your face.
It really puts just that much more hope in my heart. The people connected by this campaign are truely ones that have lived diverse lives and we have also become "emotionally" attached.
What ever happened to the man that had lost the "love of his life" and was going to be gone for awhile. was it ASMERET?

This one was pretty interesting, I realy hope we get it right in Iowa:
2. Shenanigans: In the '88 caucuses, folks from both the Gephardt and Simon campaigns were convinced the other one was cheating or inflating caucus totals. To this day, there are Simon veterans who swear they won. What are the shenanigans to watch out for this year? Think midnight phone calls on Christmas or Christmas eve. In 2000, some Gore folks believe they lost West Virginia because someone "accidentally" called thousands of voters in that state urging them to support Gore via an automated voice message. The problem? The calls came at 2 a.m. The other "shenanigan" to watch out for is not necessarily dirty but strategic and that's campaigns attempting to slow another candidate by sending their supporters to a third candidate. For instance, rumors have been flying that Clinton's folks would rather lose to Edwards than Obama. And on the GOP side, all of the candidates not named Romney would love to see him lose and need Huckabee to win. Translation: those other candidates may band together and attempt to get their supporters to influence the final outcome. On paper, it seems like a plausible thing to do. In reality, it's very hard to "order" someone to go support another candidate because they are being told it's the best way to support their first-choice candidate.

I read an article today which talked about how Obama camp won't reveal their precinct captain totals, I know you all are making big plans. I just look at the harkin steak fry, jj dinner, 10,000 at house parties across the state! Such a well oiled and steady campaign machine. It's going to happen!

Laura Dear Soul...
Lunch or dinner sounds great. T-Bocks? Got a great Greek chicken salid w/pita bread!!! Or the burgers w/local beef & fries...
Just got off the phone from talking with a former university student who lives in Spirit Lake. Haven't seen him since graduation. Says they only got a few flurries there today. Plan on going to stay with him, his wife, 3 kids and cat for a couple of days after the caucus, and before I head back Asheville. Expect to get back home about the 8th or 9th, depending on the road conditions, and then a daily commute to Greenville, SC until Jan. 26th.
I like to think that every snow flake that comes down now, can't come down on Jan. 3rd. I'm expecting that the weather will be good, well... that means no big storm on the 3rd.
I'll be staying in Decorah again, don't know if I'll be phone calling for Million in Cresco, or for Victoria in Decorah. Where ever I'm needed.
I'm going to miss Victoria and Million myself. They have such energy! Tough keeping up with them when you're 64!
Hope that Bill C. liked all the "Hope" and Obama '08 yard signs around those 3 counties. Sure was fun setting out a lot of signs during those 3 weeks. Obama owns the yard sign war up there.
As far as you having scheduled your upcoming leave time about a year ago, well... certain things are, as it is said, "written in the stars", and in a few years you'll come to understand these things.

I just got this holiday (or not) greeting from my sister and thought I'd pass it along to everyone:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, our best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
We also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
Terms of acceptance:
By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Ex-president supportive to a fault?
Bill Clinton comes under fire from some old allies for his harsh treatment of Obama, a chief rival of his wife.
By Mark Z. Barabak, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
December 21, 2007
From Washington to Sacramento, a generation of Democrats enjoys power and prosperity thanks to Bill Clinton, who ran for president as a fresh face representing hope and change.
A number of those graying Clintonites are now rallying behind Barack Obama, another national newcomer, who offers youth, optimism and an echo of that promise to upend the status quo.
Thus, many find it more than a little unsettling -- and dismaying -- that the former president is targeting the Illinois senator with the same kind of criticism that Clinton faced in 1992.
Reed Hundt, who attended law school with Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton, said he admired them both even though he was not supporting the New York senator's White House bid.
But he questioned some of the ex-president's recent statements, including a suggestion that a vote for the Illinois senator was like rolling the dice.
"President Clinton is going way too far -- too far into the politics of personal attack, which he knows is bad for the country," Hundt said. "It's not right for a former president to get out there and be demeaning any of our candidates.
"Calling Barack Obama 'a symbol' is not acceptable discourse," Hundt went on, referring to Clinton's comments in a recent interview with PBS' Charlie Rose. "Likening him to a TV commentator is an insult."
Hundt, who is supporting Obama but not working for his campaign, was Clinton's appointee to head the Federal Communications Commission during his first term.
Susan Rice, assistant secretary of State in the Clinton administration and an Obama advisor, said she was not surprised the Clintons were waging such a pugnacious campaign, particularly as the Democratic race tightened.
"It's politics as usual, and it's unfortunate," Rice said in Des Moines, where she traveled this week for an Obama speech on foreign policy. ". . . There are enormous challenges that we're facing in the world. To the extent that the debate can remain focused on the substance and the policy . . . we'll be better off."

(continued)
Even some supporters of Sen. Clinton question her husband's turn to negative campaigning.
"He's got to take the high road," said Leon E. Panetta, chief of staff in President Clinton's first term. "He's strongest when he praises Hillary. He's weakest when he comes out as the attack dog."
President Clinton did not respond directly to the criticism. A spokesman, Matt McKenna, said the former president "feels strongly there's only one candidate with the strength and experience to lead on Day 1 and deliver the change America needs."
Bill Clinton remains a much-beloved figure among Democrats as the candidate who won the White House, held it for two terms and introduced a new vocabulary, with words like responsibility, community service and reform, that helped remake the party's losing image.
For some who worked to elect Clinton or served in his administration, having to choose between their old boss (or, more precisely, his wife) and Obama is almost like having to choose between Mom and Dad.
"I love the guy; I really do," said Mitchell Schwartz, who helped engineer Clinton's pivotal 1992 second-place finish in New Hampshire and now runs Obama's California campaign. He shrugs off the former president's criticism of his candidate.
"He's a political animal, and he's doing what he can to try to help his wife to win," Schwartz said, though he suggested it could hurt Clinton's legacy. "We like to exalt our ex-presidents because they stay out of the political ring. You jump back in, you're not in that exalted position."
But others expressed surprise and disappointment that Clinton, given his elder-statesman status, would engage Obama as if he were the one seeking office. Many of Obama's backers did not want to be quoted by name, out of loyalty to the former president or fearing retribution if Sen. Clinton wins the White House.

I'm 28 years old and Black. It's been a very difficult life for me. But I do have hope. If Barack becomes president of this nation I will for once in my life actually feel like I genuinely belong in this country. A great deal of internal rage against Whites has subsided because I now truly see that many White men and women are serious about his candidacy because he truly has the wisdom and statesmen-like manner to truly pull this nation out of it's morass. You've renewed my spirit and it warms my heart to see that you're not willing to let this nation go under rather than choose this decent, wise and remarkable man. If he doesn't get into office, I guess I'll just blame the DieBold (HACKABLE) E-VOTING MACHINES. Ohio has scrapped them because of this. I hope you guys are demanding they get scrapped as well before our next election. Here's a link:

It is time for those leaders to pass their experience on to a new generation of leaders. They have been on the stage long enough. They are asking a man(Barack Obama), who is both black and white, to sort of pick sides. It will not happen and frankly it is not fair. In the words of Cornell West:
He is his mother's son, and that is okay

I THINK THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE TO DISRESPECT REV. JACKSON, UNDERNEATH THE VIDEO OF HIS SON'S INSPIRING SPEECH FOR OUR CANDIDATE. AS OBAMA SAYS,"I AM STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF THOSE WHO CAME BEFORE ME ....BECAUSE PEOPLE STOOD UP FOR ME." HE MEANS REV. JACKSON, AMONG OTHERS, LIKE KING, ABERNATHY, BISHOP LOWRY. I WAS STRUCK THAT SOMEONE ON THE BLOG SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD JESSE JR. SPEAK. THERE ARE A LOT OF YOUNG PEOPLE HERE WHO DON'T KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. JESSE'S TWO RUNS FOR PRESIDENCY MAKE OBAMA'S CANDIDACY POSSIBLE NOW. IT'S LIKE JACKIE ROBINSON. SOMEONE HAS TO BE THE FIRST AND TAKE THE RIDICULE AND THE INSULTS. HE REGISTERED OVER A MILLION DEMOCRATIC VOTERS, BROUGHT A WHOLE HOST OF NEW BLOOD INTO THE PARTY, CREATING INFRASTRUCTURES THAT ARE WORKING NOW TO H ELP OBAMA. I DON'T WANT TO GO ON AND ON WITH ALL HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I WOULD HOPE OBAMA SUPPORTERS WOULD KNOW THEIR HISTORY. I WORKED ON THE POOR PEOPLE'S CAMPAIGN IN 84 AND HIS RUN IN 88. HE HAS SAID FROM THE FIRST THAT HE SUPPORTS BARACK. HE WILL CONTINUE TO DO HIS THING, TRY TO SHINE LIGHT ON RACIAL INJUSTICE. WHY SHOULDN'T HE. I HAVE WRITTEN TO HEADQUARTERS ASKING THAT THEY STOP THE JACKSON BASHING ON THIS BLOG. IT SEEMS TO HAVE LESSENED. BUT NOW IT'S BACK. RIGHT UNDER HIS SON'S VIDEO. I KNOW BARACK WOULD ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS.

Jonnie Rae, you need to really calm down.
NO ONE is disrespecting these leaders, they're just pointing out some FACTS that may lead someone to think they are jealous, which is completely irrelevant.
Rev. Jesse Jackson has done some great things for this country. It is true that without Jesse Jackson's run for president, OBama probably wouldnt be where he was today.
Bt at the same time, Jesse Jackson tried to go behind Obama's back and say He's acting white???? ACTING WHITE??? There are SO many things wrong w/ that statement that I don't even know where to begin...
That's where most of us Obama supporters (and yes, I am Black too) were turned off by Jackson, not to mention some other suggestions by Jackson that Obama should talk more about Jena 6, even though HE Was the first candidate to comment about that case!
And please get your facts straight, b/c any Jackson bashing that is going on has NOTHING to do w/ the Obama Headquarters and those are all individual people that make those comments and feel that way about Jesse Jackson, and I'm sorry, but I'm one of the and I have VERY good reason for having a PERSONAL DISLIKE for the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

I'm 19, and Jackson was quoted saying that by a
NEWSPAPER
!!! They didn't make it up! Jesse Jackson claims he doesn't remember saying that, so basically he didn't Deny it, he just claims he doesn't remember. The newspaper has absolutely NO Reason for making something like this up.
Stop blindly defending him, and my age has nothing to do w/ anything on this blog or how I perceive our leaders.
The proof is right here:

"If I were a candidate, I'd be all over Jena," Jackson said after an hour-long speech at Columbia's historically black Benedict College.
"Jena is a defining moment, just like Selma was a defining moment," said the iconic civil rights figure, who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1965 Selma civil rights movement and was with King at his 1968 assassination.
Later, Jackson said he did not recall making the "acting like he's white" comment about Obama, stressing he only wanted to point out the candidates had not seized on an opportunity to highlight the disproportionate criminal punishments black youths too often face.

We know that we have the best candidate for President and we can all join in our support of Senator Obama.
Governor Kaine, now is the time to get the rest of the Virginia Democrats onboard. When Senator Obama becomes the Democrat Nominee, it is going to make it a lot easier for his coattails to bring in the other candidates.
Senator Obama has revitalized the Democratic Party, has helped to increase the number of elected officials in the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate and we have a Democratic Governor in Mass. because Senator Obama campaigned and engerized the base in that state.
Now is the time to do our part to ensure that he is the Nominee!!!

This is a huge thing that Kaine is saying, and not just campaign rhetoric-- that Obama is the most electable of the Democrats. HRC has too many negatives; the Republican machine cannot wait to sink their teeth into her, but my sense is that they are afraid of Obama because he will just make too much sense to American voters when all is said and done... if people are awake that is..

SC Dem race tight in two new polls
Two new polls show a tight Democratic presidential race in South Carolina. A SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted for WCSC-TV in Charleston shows Hillary Clinton is at 41% and Barack Obama with 39%, within the survey's 4.5 percent margin of error. John Edwards comes in with 17%.
Link
A just released CBS News telephone survey puts Sen. Obama slightly ahead, with 35% to Sen. Clinton's 34%. Again, that is within the poll's 4% margin of error. The former N.C. senator, John Edwards is at 13% in that poll.
On the Republican side in South Carolina in the CBS poll, Mike Huckabee has 28 percent and Mitt Romney has 20 percent. The margin of sampling error in the Republican poll is 5 percentage points. Rudy Giuliani, John McCain and Fred Thompson are bunched together at 12, 11 and 10 percent respectively.
