Back when I first supported Obama last July
(I heard him answer ONE question in the CNN youtube debate [the first debate I'd bothered to watch, since I so figured that the H* bomb had it on lockdown] and I was HOOKED!), I didn't think he could pull it out either...all the way to Iowa.
And then everything changed.

Obama Republican (registered Decline to State) and have cast my vote early this morning. Ready to go. Let's end this military occupation and engage the true war on terrorism... the war to win the hearts and minds of those looking for hope. I'm a gun carrying Republican. Love to hunt. I know what guns can and can't accomplish. And I just happen to know that words are more powerful in a fight against a pandemic ideology. The leaders of terrorism use fear to enrage their followers. Returning enraged fear (manifest in violence) against fear gets us nowhere. We have a much greater weapon. That is hope.

Thanks Harold! I'm from Germany and it is so good to hear these kinds of sentiments after a long time of 'Whoever is not for us is against us' propaganda from the miserable Bush administration. Obama can stand for this message of hope and reconciliation like no other candidate, and the world is fired up about it! I know that here in Germany, there are a lot of people who are keeping their fingers crossed for Barack today. So, let's make this happen!! Make this hope a reality! Yes we can!

--that was the issue that really stood out to me about Barack!!! He is the ONLY candidate who will get us out of Iraq and will go after Osama bin Laden and his cohorts.
Everyone else will either cut and run or stay in Iraq....today for example, U.S. intelligence (according to the media) revealed "al Qaeda might move outside of Iraq."

When I was calling supporters to go to South Carolina to help get out the vote, I spoke to a man who asked me, "Do you think this is important enough for me to drop everything and go to South Carolina?" I responded, "What if in the 1960s I called you and asked that you go to Selma, Alabama?" Silence on the phone ... His response, "I am going to South Carolina...thanks for helping make the decision."

I finally got to into my polling place. It took 2 1/2 hours in line to vote but Barack has one more AZ vote. Granted it is just a provisonal ballot (Not sure how it works) because I am listed as an "early voter" because I recieve absentee ballots. This year I made my decison late because I was an Edwards supporter and by the time I settled on Barack the deadline passed for early voting. I am hoping my vote is counted because I am not sure how this provisonal ballot stuff works.

Obama is not a Muslim and he never has been. He's a Christian. It would be nice if people would check the facts before they make innacurate posts. I just voted for Obama and I feel GREAT! I dare to Hope! I can't wait for Change!

As many have mentioned on this site, Barack is Christian and most sane people know that. Secondly, this is a country that prides itself over the separation of church and state. We vote in the "Best" candidate. He or SHE could be Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Morman...they have to be good Americans. There are millions of muslims in the US and over a Billion on planet earth. I suggest you consider relocating to Mars if you have such hatred for people.

I had the honor of voting in SC. We got it right.
Today, My aunt emails me from MA. First time she has ever stood in line to vote in their little town. Huge Turn Out.
Her daughter my cousin was at the rally in Boston...chearing, hoping, and today she is working the phones.
My Sister in California and I spoke, she had already voted for Obama as had my brother-in-law.
Uncle, Aunt and God-father in Minnesota
Uncle and Brother in New York, on and on...
This is my family. I am related to them by blood.
But, I am related to MILLIONS more people acting across the the country today...by something else strong -
I am realted to all of you voting for Obama, BY HOPE.
I will not let that go.
I will not forget.
My personal and professional life are not in the best place...
BUT I WILL HOPE.
And I will take time today, this historic day, to add my voice, my time, my heart to this race-
Because I hope.
I heard an evil and small minded man on the radio just an hour ago...who I will not name...say something truly pathetic.
He was clearly taking a shot at Obama, and i will not grace it with repetition. It is undeserving.
Rather, I will answer it with action, born of hope.
The way MLK asked us to.
The way JFK and RFK asked us to.
The way BARACK OBAMA asks us to...RIGHT NOW.
I am of this Family, this uniquely AMERICAN family, this family alive and active in Hope
I AM WITH OBAMA and we are A Family Bound to one another in HOPE.

Thanks for posting that link, Josselyn.
Michael Chabon writes so eloquently about standing up for hope and change that I sent it out to my long list of progessive activists around the country yesterday.
I've had so many conversations with middle-aged (my age) activists who don't even realize how they've bought into the fear-machine as well.
But I've gotten great, positive responses to this column.
So, everybody...risk hope!

BTW, I've been actively campaigning for Obama here in the [perceived] heart of Hillary country, Buffalo,NY. By my last count only 2 of my circle of friends & relations intend to vote for her. All the rest are for Obama, whether it be in the city, in the suburbs or out in rural areas. We know only too well what she has & has not done. And she has done some good...but Buffalo has officially become the second poorest city in all of the U.S on her watch as our Senator. If our districts go her way it's only because the NY State Democratic Committee voted a year ago to allow individual counties endorse [and therefor work for] Democratic candidates in the primary. OH! What a coincidence that they decide to do this after their Senator announces she's running. Anyway, I only bring this up to let you know that we fellow Obama voluteers are working against paid staff & the entire Democratic party's resources up here! And we're doing it! We had all our signs up at all area polling locations at 5a.m. [polls open at 6a.m. here] and not a single Hillary sign to be seen anywhere until AFTER the pre-work voting rush. I hear turnout is on a par for a general election! That says, "Obama!" to me!
Upstate NY is pulling as hard as we can!

In California, which alone provides more than one-fifth of the Democratic delegates needed for the nomination, Obama led Clinton by 49 percent to 36 percent, the poll found. The margin of error was 3.3 percentage points. .....

It was kind of a surprise in Iowa. The night of the caucus I don't think anyone realized how big the turnout for Obama would be. It was almost as if at the last moment people made their decision. I wonder if the the same thing will happen today in all these other states..

Obama's message of hope is for those who hunger for integrity and sincerity in leadership. Senator Clinton is a fierce competitor, intelligent, accomplished, but seriously lacking in leadership. That is not a personal attack. I prayed for her and her family during her most difficult public hour. She may have inspired women to aspire for the presidency, but I sure hope that the next woman that runs will be the right woman; one who shares the same values as Barack and Michelle Obama, and runs as dignified a campaign as they have. Michelle Obama will prove to be a greater inspiration to women in this country and abroad.

I voted in Tenn. last week and I would like to say I have never voted in a primary before or made a donation. Mr. Obama is the only person to lead this country in the right direction.I dont like Hillary and I will never vote for her(if she wins)because the way they treated Barack in S.C.

I agree, and say that no matter how the party would like dems to vote for her if she is the nominee, will NOT happen. The Clinton machine has made moves in this campaign that alienated many voters in the way McCain has in the republicans. Just as a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket will not happen. So stop with the bashing and other nonsense and FOCUS on the work necessary to make Barack the nominee.
We do not want to be of the Rove mentality. We and the MOVEMENT are better than that. "YES WE CAN" move forward and change politics and our country back into the "CAN DO" nation that made this a great country... Having Barack gaining delegates on "SUPER TUESDAY" is truth to "YES WE CAN". Remember Barack was suppose to be DOWN and OUT by this day.

Respectfully disagree.
There is no need to diss her on this site, but she is NOT a "fine" candidate.
She is craven, disingenuous, manipulative and egocentric. She (nor her hubby) cannot get that we know better what's good for us than she does.
The health ins mandate is, purely and simply, authoritarian.
As for me? I'm for liberty. I'm for honesty. I'm for a president who is keenly aware at all times who they WORK FOR. The Prez is not the boss, but rather the instrument of the people. Hil can't get this, her people can't get this, and I'm sorry, but Dem or no - this means to me someone who is NOT a "fine" candidate.

In fact, read the whole Declaration of Independence from beginning to end. What is it? It's a people refusing to wait for permission to be free.
Go to the Hil website and try to speak. Just try. What do you get? You must get PERMISSION to speak!
Where is the liberty? Where is the spirit of this nation? Nowhere in sight. Now read her history and that of the Clinton whitehouse, and you totally get that this is not just her campaign. It's who she is. She will brook no dissent. Democrat or not, regardless of her policies, her METHODS are autoritatian. And I, for one, will not have it.

My only point is this - we are not in an election where it should be necessary to tear down another candidate. In preaching a departure from the politics of the past, it is necessary for us, as supporters of Obama, to be first and foremost practitioners of what Obama preaches. You can elevate yourself by picking yourself up or by pushing everybody else down. I vote for the former.

Obama is for free speech, as he believes in the Constitution. I don't think that bloggers should be told how to express themselves...that we can only say positive things or else shut up. Yes, we should not write disgusting things about Hillary, but it is certainly okay to voice how we feel about both Barack and Hillary.
As an Independent, I too will NEVER vote for Hillary!!! If she is the nominee, I will vote Republican, as a protest vote against Hillary. I refuse to have the Bush and Clinton families be in the White House my whole life. It's time for a new family in the White House.

Too many times we have seen our "loyal" vote taken for granted by the
Democratic Party, as well as, the Republican Party. So I say here today...
My vote is not going to be a Democratic vote.
My vote is not going to be a Republican vote.
My vote will be an American vote for justice, peace and prosperity of
Democracy.
America, we have the chance to lead the world in setting aside the
Ideological, Partisan, and the Dynastical mind set that is so deeply rooted
in Politics perpetuated by the Main Stream Media. The leaders around the
world will begin to see that YES WE CAN win by uniting people across gender,
religion and race.
Because I stand for Democracy over Dynasty...because I'm an American before

Below is a link to the With One Voice fundraising campaign for Senator Obama. It was started in honor of the voter in South Carolina who gave this movement $3.01 and a bible verse. She, like most of us, could not afford to max out her financial contribution. However, the spirit of this movement is not a few people doing a lot, it's many people doing everything they can.
The goal is to echo our friend 10,000 times over and raise $30,100. So far we've raised over $3100 from over 100 people.

I voted as soon as my polling place opened! I got up a lot earlier than I am used to and walked the 4 or 5 blocks it takes for me to get there in the lovely grey/rainy Massachusetts weather, but IT FELT GREAT! I told the guy overseeing the ballot eating machine that my vote had better count! Everyone in ear shot got a kick out of that, and from what I heard walking in and out of the place those that were talking we definitely for Obama!
I finally got the 1000 postcards in, if you've seen my posts about those "Know The Facts" PDF downloads I've been pasting into the blogs here and there for the past week. So... handed out about a hundred of them to the Obama supporters down in Davis Square outside of my workplace so they could hand them out to people... then I gave another 30 or so to a grocery store owner that has been talking to me about the candidates and how worried he is that not enough Americans will wake up and vote for the right candidate instead of for the name they recognize the most... He was happy to have them and started to hand them out to people that were in his store right away.
I'll have to ship the other 900 or so cards out to another state that votes later. Any takers? Click on the SWZR above, and email me if you want those remaining post cards!
We'll see how things end up here in MA, I always felt the poll numbers were way off because they can't sample the college students and ummmmm... does Harvard ring a bell to anyone? Sooo many other colleges in this area, and from what I hear at HQ the colleges here have been competing with each other to get the vote our for months now. Last time I checked HRC had a quickly declining 6 point lead here in my home state, and with Obama showing up with some friends last night I do believe we got some more converts at the last minute. I even managed to convince two more of my friends FINALY... that only took 3 months! Stubborn is a soft word to describe them... But they admitted that they were very impressed with him since December.

Just talked to my Mom. She is so bent. She is registered Lib. and can't vote in CA. My hubby is registered here in AZ as Ind. can't vote today. Both are Obama supporters. We need to keep this movement going beyond today, tomorrow, and thru the DNC. If all the Super Dels see this growing and growing, many will support Barack. We need to march in the streets, shout from the rooftops, and flood this country with support for Barack!!!
I think a lot of people switched parties because of their displeasure with both parties. We have to keep this going so they can have their voice for Barack heard too!
By the way, Mom is proudly wearing and sporting her OBAMA gear, Hubby too. Me? Well, I voted early for all of us.

Am I the only one? I found it incredibly confusing to figure out which lever matched Obama's name. I think Clinton has an advantage since her name was at the top and there was only one lever that obviously could match her. Why were all of the other candidates still on the ballot? It should have just been a two person ballot and there would be less of a chance for errors.

We had problems in Queens, too. I voted at PS 173 at around 8:30 AM and had to use a paper ballot. The most frustrating part of it, though, was that there was absolutely no privacy while voting. I get that the poll workers want to make sure that I filled it out correctly, but after 16 years of school and filling in scantrons, I think I know how to read and bubble correctly enough that I’d rather have my privacy respected. After I filled in my ballot on an open table, and folded it, I turned it into a poll worker, who opened it, looked it through, and passed it around to the other 3 workers at the table to peruse. And…where exactly did that ballot go?? Frustrating day. It was my first voting experience and it felt like it wouldn’t have mattered.
On another note, I was given a “standby ballot.” Does anyone know where that stands in terms of when (and if!) it is counted?

I had the same problem at Springfield Garden High School in Queens. I live 5 houses from the school and have voted there for over 20 years yet when I showed up this morning my name was not in the book. I did do a paper ballot where the poll worker was hovering over me when I was filling it in. I thought I was the only one who smell a rat.

Regarding your report of ENTIRE vote being voided if you vote for 7 delegates (6 delegates being the limit)...I just called NYC Board of Elections to get clarification since I did the same thing you did. It was difficult to get to a person who understood my question, but finally got someone who did understand - she was emphatic that entire vote is NOT invalidated. Your vote for presidential candidate WILL be counted and the 1st 6 delegates you voted for will be counted. The 7th delegate will not be counted. (I didn't see anything on voting machine describing delegate vote limitation)

Since I'm an LA transplant (grew up in Brooklyn and Queens), it appears that these irregularities are coming from predominantly black neighborhoods. I guess it is expected that those votes will go to Obama.
I thought the clintons did soooo much for black folks..look at them denying us the fundamental right to vote...

I think if we see something irregular and have a cell phone with a camera, document it right there, especially if it takes movies with sound. No one is going to believe it but a movie might carry more weight. In fact, I think we need to put this word out for the rest of the primaries ahead of time. I live in Texas and will have a cell phone with me. I am so tired of "irregularities" that smell. Of course there are a few glitches in any large undertaking, but some of these smell funny.

I'm with you sister! Hershey's with Almonds, the phone (for phone banking, of course), the remote control (for speculation...) and a whole lot of praying (for karmic action)!
I am frustrated in NJ because I am having a hard time convincing Independent (ie: in this state called Unaffiliate) voters that they can and should vote this primary. During my rounds this morning I had to explain to several folks who told me they "don't vote in primaries" because of their lack of affiliation that they need to get in on this NOW and CAN vote as long as they declare at the polls. (You can change your affiliation back to Unaffiliated via the Board of Elections).
I am really surprised - as an Unaffiliated voter myself - that this option seems to allow people to wash their hands of the whole thing instead of making a choice.
Please tell me there are NJ voters out there getting to the polls - we have 6% points to make up...

Don't know if it switches them to Democrat and then they have to switch it back, in CA it doesn't work that way, we just are given a ballot.
Remind them that they can make their statement at the polls without anyone knowing. That it's totally confidential and will not alter that. That they are not sending a message for any party, particularly when Obama is the party of all parties, more or less, running on the Democratic ticket. That true Democracy is inclusive of all people and the votes and voices of all people, and that excluding Unaffiliated people is self-disenfranchisement that is understandable about all the partisanship and resultant cynicism we've had for so long, but that it's time they felt comfortable using their voice again. That all that affiliates them with is themselves.

Illinois Voters
When voting in Illinois using a paper ballot be careful. Ask for a Democratic Ballot. Be sure you get two pieces of paper. The choices for various national and local candidates are on a two page 2-sided ballot (two pieces of paper and you need to flip to the reverse sides). You must complete both pieces of paper And Both Sides or you risk having your ballot voided.
Be sure to be careful when picking national delegates. Go slowly and don't be confused by the individual names. Look for names that have Obama in smaller letters under the delagates' names and choose them. You need vote for six, no more, no less. It's a vertical column of names and the first six are Obama delegates. Choose them.
Also, there is a choice for an alternate delegate. There are two choices. Choose one only and be sure to choose the name with Obama under it.
That's it!
btw, I stayed around for a while after voting. There are a lot of Republicans in my area, probably a majority. However, only one person out of about fifteen asked for a Republican ballot. The only conversations going around were pro Barack. Nice!

This is really a lifetime happening.........
It takes centuries to find a human being with extraordinary abilities (one in millions) to be like Senator Barack Obama
I belong to a socially and politically sound and very well respected family from INDIA and for me it’s not difficult to understand someone’s abilities and make a right judgment.
And I also know that change only happens from ordinary people with extraordinary abilities.
Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability........
But I think this is more than enough time for the Americans to understand his philosophy.......
This is man with special ability, vision, wisdom, instinct and moral values. A man with true beliefs, unbelievable strength, passion and hope.
Today America needs a president who has ability, character and judgment, not years on this earth.....what they called experience.
These are fundamental qualifications to become a leader…..
We need to understand and measure a character of a man who is standing for cause and commitment more than anything in life and who has the potential to transform this nation and the world into right direction.
As we are already facing unbelievable/ catastrophic consequences on this planet and more over the planet itself is in danger.
Today, this moment we need a president who understands his responsibility for long term sustainability of our planet and survival of human civilization. Who can unite and encourage world leaders for the common cause and commitment to stand up to the highest moral and ethical believes and standards and to find some of the critical solutions of our time and save this planet for future generations....
So I think history is giving us this last chance to recover and survive and now it is up to us that we will ask our hearts and minds to sense and speak out truth and make a right judgment call.
I wish him luck and success in his mission. I am confident that he will surely make a difference in the world.

HI Illinois voters! Iam also an Illinois resident...but downstate. The Chicago Ballots look different than the ones downstate I think, due to local issues. they are both FRONT AND BACK and read the delegates selection CAREFULLY!
Call everyone you know in MO. and IL to get out there and vote. It isnt winner take all...the more votes he gets the more delegates he gets in IL...it will be a delegate race in the end and he needs all he can get from all who love him in IL!

We need to understand and measure a character of a man who is standing for cause and commitment more than anything in life and who has the potential to transform this nation and the world into right direction.
As we are already facing unbelievable/ catastrophic consequences on this planet and more over the planet itself is in danger.
Today, this moment we need a president who understands his responsibility for long term sustainability of our planet and survival of human civilization. Who can unite and encourage world leaders for the common cause and commitment to stand up to the highest moral and ethical believes and standards and to find some of the critical solutions of our time and save this planet for future generations....
So I think history is giving us this last chance to recover and survive and now it is up to us that we will ask our hearts and minds to sense and speak out truth and make a right judgment call.
I wish him luck and success in his mission. I am confident that he will surely make a difference in the world.

Right on! I'm originally from the Chicago area and now live in Denver. He'll have no problem in Il. I'll be here caucusing for Obama so that people know those of us in the western part of the U.S. support Obama!
Many of my college students have come up to me so that we can locate their caucus site so they can caucus for Obama. He has amazing support here!

The polls are all over the place, but a couple just released show a bit of a last second bump for Hillary (i.e., Gallup).
Still hopeful...but I'm worried that all the talk about people solving their dilemma by having "both" on the ticket.......might have gained some traction.

Part of what happened in NH is voter fraud. Find out what to do to prevent it in YOUR state, esp come November. No matter your party, your vote is at risk!! blackboxvoting.org has been working this issue for years. They were involved in the joke "recount" in NH. Dennis Kucinich did NOT run out of money, he wrote a certified letter to the SOS in NH demanding, based on the portion he paid for, a total recount of all votes; the SOS reported that he ran out of money. I'm writing this late in the evening before Super Tuesday, and will post it in the morning before I go off to work at the local Obama headquarters here in Maryland, preparing for our primary next week. I spent the entire month before the Iowa caucuses in Iowa volunteering for the Obama campaign, and have talked to people who worked in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and there is one crystal-clear message from all of those states. (I haven't personally talked to anybody who worked in Nevada, so can't personally vouch for what happened there.)
THIS IS ALL ABOUT GETTING OUT THE VOTE! If we're behind in some polls, it's because they all adjust for likely voters. There is no doubt in my mind that we're ahead in actual numbers of people, BUT WE NEED TO GET THEM TO THE POLLS. We didn't do it in New Hampshire -- I fear because we believed the message from the polls and from the large turn-out at rallies that we were going to win, and didn't keep our eye on the ball: IT'S ALL ABOUT GETTING OUT THE VOTE!

The typical Clinton supporter is a middle-aged or older empty nester who has voted in virtually every election since they were eligible to vote. THEY WILL TURN OUT. The typical Obama supporter is a younger person with a job and a family, or perhaps a college student or high school senior. I'm here in Columbus, Ohio and we've been working away at the grassroots for quite some time.
In the meantime, I have family in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and California as well as friends in Georgia.
So far, my father, Col. William J. Cavanaugh (retired) voted for Senator Obama this morning and was taking my 84 year old Mom out to vote after lunch.
I'll continue to make GOTV calls and e-mails for the rest of the day.

My 8 year old and I proudly sported our Obama 08 t-shirts to the polls this morning... We were forced outside to take off our shirts. Apparently Oklahoma has a law about "electioneering" within 300 feet of a polling station. The women working the station were rude and unpleasant. I knew about the law but I didn't know it applied to clothing. I thought it only applied to handing out campaign materials and talking to folks about their vote. My son was quite disappointed by the experience...But...we politely stepped out into the hall (of the church no less!) and took off our shirts. It's a good thing we had thermals under our t-shirts! I would've voted in my bra!

I have worked at the polls in Pennsylvania for several election cycles and served as an election protection coordiator for the DCCC in the 2006 election. While I am well aware of the no electioneering in a polling place rule, I don't recall ever seeing it applied to prevent folks who are simply voting (as opposed to a Judge of Elections or someone of that sort) from wearing signs of support for the candidate of their choice. Seems like that might be stepping on the First Amendment.

From my caucus experience here in Iowa, I can tell you WHY the older ladies at that table were so upset that you had Obama t-shirts on..... THEY ARE OWED this woman candidate, and you are taking their chance away from them. They cheated, they were pissed the whole night, and they still lost miserably. They barely reached viability. It was SAD to see them so hostile toward so many voters!!

Roland Martin just questioned Maxine Waters about Obama/Clinton health plans.

I understand your concern. However, my question to you is - how much Presidential experience did JFK, Bill Clinton have prior to being sworn in as President?
Bush when he was sworn in the second time could boast having presidential experience. Look at the mess the country is now in?
Hillary had 8 years with her husband in the white house, if it wasn't for the mess they created in the end we wouldn't have had another Bush in the white house.

I'm from Europe and I've been following this campaing for quite some time. I hope that Barack Obama will win, his values, including respecting humanity and opinions of other people, even if you don't agree with them, are very resonating with me. That's why I find it sad and ironical at the same time, that a post I've read here few minutes ago was removed. It was in NO WAY disrespectful or offensive, just expressing a different opinion on Barack. Even I didn't agree with that post, for the admin that removed it I've got one message: You are undermining the message that Barack is spreading, a message of respect and tolerance to other people, by censoring such non-offensive opinions. It's irony to read replies that state that on this blog you can write any opinion you'd like, as long as its respectful-when just few minutes after it IS deleted. It's the first thing in this campaing around Barack, that really disguisted me. I even registered on this site just to write this. I hope that you will start to be more true to the message of Barrack...

So psyched I was finally able to vote for Obama!
I would like to see if someone can answer a question for me. I went to the polls with my 4 year old, we both had Obama pins on and were asked to take them off in the polling building. Has anyone run into this? I find it very UN-American that my daughter and I were asked to take off our pins. I was so upset because my daughter was so sad to take her Obama pin off that she was so proud of! Afterwards she told me voting was scary. UGHHH!

Call the local ACLU immediately. This is definitely illegal and should be reported. Poll workers can't wear or display campaign materials but voters ABSOLUTELY can and should NEVER, EVER be told to remove them.

I voted earlier here in GA (Douglas County) and my son and I were wearing Obama stickers. The lady inside the polling place, politely asked us to remove them and we did--No problem.
But what did upset my son was my sh-shing him from talking about Obama while we were in line. I was so afraid that that was against the rules too and we'd be asked to leave.

It's all part of the electioneering laws in each state. Buttons and t-shirts are applicable to the laws the same as signs are in this case. Now if you are being told not to wear the buttons or shirts into the polling place, as someone is allowed to wear a Hillary button or McCain shirt, you have cause to complain.

Not sure what state you're in; but some state laws prohibit any candidate campaign advertising i.e. shirts, buttons, posters, paraphanelia, etc..)) within a certain range of the polling place.

I assume the law varies from state to state, but in this state one cannot wear campaign buttons, clothing, etc inside the polling place and cannot pass out materials within so many yards of a polling place.
Before contacting the ACLU, you should check the law in your state.

My son voted for first time in CT today - in a town of less than 5000 registered voters, they had run out of ballots for Democrats - they had him vote on a yellow photocopy and put it in a different box to be hand-counted later. I tried not to be too cynical, but noticed the New York plates in the parking lot on my way out. Is it too late to ask to observe the count?

I have noticed that many on this blog have stated that if Barack isn't the nominee, they will vote Republican. I find this disconcerting for many reasons. Do we want another war monger in the whitehouse. McCain states, "we could be in Iraq for 100 years." Does your hatred of Hillary really justify more war? I am a staunch OBAMA girl. Have been from the beginning. But, I could not support a republican if barack doesn't get the nomination (which I don't think will happen). I guess my question is, if you don't like hillary for the democratic choice, do you vote mccain? or do you not vote at all if it is hillary? Can we afford to let personal feelings turn our vote to a republican and lose the possibility of a democratic whitehouse? It would kill me to vote hillary, but my conscious would not let me vote republican. what do you think?

It's not about personal feelings. It's about principle.
There is no need to diss her on this site, but she is NOT a "fine" candidate.
She is craven, disingenuous, manipulative and egocentric. She (nor her hubby) cannot get that we know better what's good for us than she does.
The health ins mandate is, purely and simply, authoritarian.
As for me? I'm for liberty. I'm for honesty. I'm for a president who is keenly aware at all times who they WORK FOR. The Prez is not the boss, but rather the instrument of the people. Die4Barack: I share your concern and must admit to being extremely torn. Right now, I feel that if it's Hillary and McCain, I'd vote for McCain or not vote at all. However, if it's Hillary and Romney, I'll certainly vote for Hillary (this would not be a pro-Hillary vote but a anti-Romney vote). I hate to say this, but I would have left the democratic party had Obama not entered the race, so I'm still trying to determine my "allegiance" to the democratic party.

You are correct that it isn't reliable.
However, I feel that it is absolutely worth discussing - why? Because those who are voting for Hillary think that they are choosing "safe" choice. They are assuming a couple things. First, they assume that whoever is the Democrat on the ticket in November WILL win (quite a huge assumption!) and a big part of their calculation is assuming that everyone who came out to vote for Barack Obama in the primaries will 'fall into line' with the Dem party and vote for her if she's on the ticket.
To point out that these assumptions are very weak indeed, might even sway some voters who are not sure but feel comfort and security in the fact that one Clinton lead the Democrats to the White House before. They forget that we are not in the same time and same place that we were when we voted for Bill Clinton. They forget that her election is NOT an inevitable fact. The Clintons have many more scandals under their belts, many more years of partisan warfare politics, and many more voters who would mobilize against her election than there were when Bill Clinton was fairly unknown.
The Democrats have twice now made the mistake of nominating "teachers pet" style candidates who can win debates but not heart and minds.
Please, oh PLEASE, don't make the same miscalculated mistake again!
Obama has SUBSTANCE behind what he says. But, he has something more. He has charisma to cause other people to want to follow his ideas. This is something Bill had and Hillary does not.

Excellent question.
My answer is that I will not vote for HRC, and I will not vote for any other republican either (sorry to steal Anne Coulter's line of thinking there).
I do vote. But my conscience won't let me commit an act I feel is simply the lesser of two evils.
So I either leave it blank, or write in my choice for candidates.
To me, Civil Resistance is important to my integrity. I must follow my own truths, not truths that are mandated as civic duty or some such nonsense.
Obama is the real deal: he is true democracy and he has EARNED my vote, and my respect. I have no interest in the political games of the HRC's and John McCain's of the world and only know how to fight them by not participating in them.

Very well put. I feel positive and upbeat about Obama today. The change train has been full steam ahead for the past few days!!! People are catching Obama fever.
However if I do let my mind goto "that dark place" I realize that I cannot vote for Clinton. I will write in a name or leave it blank. Here is why, during all of their disgusting tactics after NH and through South Carolina I was very put off. Then I heard someone say that this is how the Clintons campaign, they say and do anything just to win and then they will say sorry later and expect people to fall in line. I decided then and there that I would not forgive them and I will never fall in line again. I have been a loyal Democrat for 17 years. I am done falling in line to special interests and the establishment. Not voting for anyone will be the only decision I can live with.

Well your fellow citizens have headed to the polls abroad as well, and in France their number has been multiplied by 2.
Here they are voting in Paris, with the president of the democrats in France, Mr Smallover explaining how the vote will take place and how thousans are expected to turn out..... the young guy by the end reminding that expats represent the 13th most populated state in US. The lady with grey hair is from Boston and they are all convinced that this is a big turn in history.To all of them it's "a beautiful day".
Sorry you'll have to cope with the place and the faces..... as they all speak perfectly french. Nobody's perfect.

My husband and I voted early a few weeks ago in Tennessee. Today my mom & dad cast their vote for Obama.
A while back I started talking to my Republican brother (Voted for Bush twice) about Obama. Well, I sent him a text message this morning reminding him to vote today and he sent me a text back that said "Death To Hillary", lol. Too funny!! I can't believe I got him to vote for Obama! Oh, also my coworker is a republican but she is going to vote for Obama also.

1) If you or someone you witness is told they can not vote DO NOT leave the voting area
2) In the era of cell phones, PLEASE use your cell to call someone(police, HQ , etc) Also many cells have video and photo capacity - USE THEM
Do Not back down if challenged if you feel you have a right to vote. Call HQ and they will assit.

The Minnesota caucus opens at 6:30 tonight and I have been phone banking from home as I wait. I am calling New York voters today even though my sink is filled with breakfast dishes:( I spoke with a Barack voter who is in Syracuse. She wants to vote but it's slippery out and she doesn't have a ride. The campaign is getting her to the polls today! If everybody makes 20 calls to voters in these crucial states, we can make a difference. Find those undecided voters and share your enthusiasm for a real leader.

Still making last minute GOTV calls in the Sunflower state for our big caucus night! The good news: Everyone I've called already knows his or her caucus location and what time to show up. It's a new process for most people, since KS has never been "in play" before. But people are fired up! I talked to one older woman who said she couldn't wait to show up "with bells on" even though we've got very crummy weather today. I have also been called myself about 6-7 times, so the ground team in KS is working very hard to deliver to Barack his mother's home state!!! Barack-Chalk, Jayhawk 08!!!

Phone-banking from home, I spoke to a committed Edwards supporter in Colorado about tonight's caucus. After telling me he was now leaning strongly towards standing w/ Obama, he thanked me profusely for calling and for being a "real person." Sensing my confusion, he explained he'd just received an automated, taped phone message from President Clinton. Laughing, I told him I'm not sure I could compete w/ President Clinton's skills face-to-face but if he was on tape and I was talking to this caucus-goer live maybe... and this Colorodoan, finishing my thought, replied "absolutely!"
So, folks, keep phoning! If there is one moment that captures for me the power of this bottom-up campaign, the power of the future over that past, that was it!

My first phone call last night was a similar experience! A young Fort Collins, Colorado man who was an Edwards supporter. He asked some questions about the caucus and was very grateful for actual conversation abuot it. Then he committed to voting for Obama!

I talked with an older couple yesterday who were extremely upset that they had cast their absentee ballots for John Edwards and now did not have the opportunity to vote for Barack. They were heartbroken and said we need to fight for a new system so this doesn't happen again to anyone.

It seems to me that one should be able to change an absentee vote, as happened in New Jersey.
I warn all voters against absentee ballots, especially in CA, where I got in a heated argument with a lady at the registrars about not wanting one... only to receive one in the mail anyways (with no presidential ballot in it, since I "declined to state" my party, the ramifications of which were never explained to me at all).

To all those in Caucus States tonight. I have worked with the campaign in 2 caucus states and I can tell you this that HC campaign will DO ANYTHING to get votes before and during the caucus at the precincts. She has consistently had a BIG presence at the caucus sites even though the other campaigns obeyed the request to note have too many non voters there so as to not clog up the room with all who arent actually caucusing. HC campaign ignores ALL requests and does what she wants. I saw MANY things happen that were wrong at this sites....couldnt believe it. Anyway FYI...if you are volunteering and can attend a caucus area to help out I HIGHLY reccommend it. When I said that I was from Obama for America, the caller seemed receptive and when I asked if he knew who he was supporting he said in a very friendly tone, "I do! and I have, I have voted!" (something to that effect) In my enthusiasm, I said OH! so you voted for Barack?! Half a question, half what I thought I heard, He then corrected me and clarified, saying "I voted". I feel bad because I didn't mean to ask how he voted. I just said something like Oh, okay. Thank You.

I had a similar experience last night while calling CA. I spoke with a woman who had sent her ballot in already. I thought better of it, but couldn't help myself: I asked "may I ask who you voted for?" she responded, "why do you need to know that?" I said "I don't need to know, but I've been making a lot of calls today...and every bit of good news helps." She dryly told me that she voted for Barack. I was concerned that I may have offended her, but she told me to "keep up the good work" as I ended the call.
I thought about it again after I hung up. I concluded that I really don’t have to know about ballots that have already been cast (no need to cry over spilled milk). Putting human nature / curiosity aside, we need to stay focused on the task at hand: getting out the vote for Barack!

The polls were packed this morning. Very exciting to see in the primaries. I will be glued to the coverage this evening. I have a good feeling about Obama today, I hope I'm right.
Got a call from "DC" on my caller ID moments ago. It was a pitch to vote for Hillary. I told them sternly that I'd already voted and to please remove us from their list asap.
She's obviously nervous. She deserves to be.

We had a call last night here in IL from someone on the HRC campaign about getting out to vote. Told her my husband & I voted early voting for Obama. She was pleasant and understood we weren't going 'her way.'

The Minnesota caucus opens at 6:30 tonight and I have been phone banking from home as I wait. I am calling New York voters today even though my sink is filled with breakfast dishes:( I spoke with a Barack voter who is in Syracuse. She wants to vote but it's slippery out and she doesn't have a ride. The campaign is getting her to the polls today! If everybody makes 20 calls to voters in these crucial states, we can make a difference. Find those undecided voters and share your enthusiasm for a real leader.

Okay let's not beat up on Hillary. I am couging too. After spending 2 or more weeks making GOTV calls I came down with a cold.

I talked to an older African-American woman who said she planned to vote if the weather was good - it's not raining here YET and it's over 70 degrees!
She has a broken hip, but she is committed to Obama and she wants to get out and vote.
I'm so inspired by people who are committed to making their votes count, no matter who they're voting for. But I'm so encouraged to see older Americans voting for change in 2008. Ted Kennedy, Tom Daschle, and others are such an encouragement to our generation.

I repeat my question.
I have noticed that many on this blog have stated that if Barack isn't the nominee, they will vote Republican. I find this disconcerting for many reasons. Do we want another war monger in the whitehouse. McCain states, "we could be in Iraq for 100 years." Does your hatred of Hillary really justify more war? I am a staunch OBAMA girl. Have been from the beginning. But, I could not support a republican if barack doesn't get the nomination (which I don't think will happen). I guess my question is, if you don't like hillary for the democratic choice, do you vote mccain? or do you not vote at all if it is hillary? Can we afford to let personal feelings turn our vote to a republican and lose the possibility of a democratic whitehouse? It would kill me to vote hillary, but my conscious would not let me vote republican. what do you think?

It's not about personal feelings. It's about principle.
There is no need to diss her on this site, but she is NOT a "fine" candidate.
She is craven, disingenuous, manipulative and egocentric. She (nor her hubby) cannot get that we know better what's good for us than she does.
The health ins mandate is, purely and simply, authoritarian.
As for me? I'm for liberty. I'm for honesty. I'm for a president who is keenly aware at all times who they WORK FOR. The Prez is not the boss, but rather the instrument of the people. Hil can't get this, her people can't get this, and I'm sorry, but Dem or no - this means to me someone who is NOT a "fine" candidate.

Bruce, Very well said! I totally agree. In MO we vote as we choose. I am not beholden to the ideals of the Democrat Party ideals perse...I am beholden to American ideals. Barack Obama is inclusive, has integrity, and character. He wants to move this country truly forward, build a true working majority. I feel so blessed to be born in such a time that I can vote for this man. Down the line they are not the same from: health care, war, economy, and technology; not only are they not the same but the critical issue at stake for me after living under the "terror bush years" I believe regardless of whether I agree with everything Barack says I at least feel that he's telling me the truth, wants the best for this country, and we are embarking on this journey together

Well, that is up to you. I am a registered Independent, and diehard barack supporter. I woun't vote for anyone because of party- and as an Independent, I hope someone else joins the race if I am truly given the choice of McCain or Clinton.

Die4, an important thing to remember is that a lot of people supporting Obama have never been Democrats before. Many have never taken part in politics before. Some are becoming Democrats specifically to support him. So, automatically expecting party loyalty from people who never voted Democrat before and don't like Hillary Clinton might be kind of unreasonable.
I've been voting Democratic since before, during and after Clinton and I'm just hoping like crazy that name isn't on the ballot in November. Because whether I hold my nose and vote for her or not, I know that many people who want to vote Democratic if it's Obama wouldn't be with us if it's Clinton.
Let's just make sure we don't have to find out.

I agree, the Clinton camp makes an error in thinking that all the Obama supporters will "fall in line" if Hillary gets the nomination. I think Clinton supporters are much more likely to move to support Obama because they are the traditional Democratic base, whereas Obama supporters include Independents, Republicans, and those generally disillusioned with politics.
I am an Independent who usually votes Democratic but I will not, can not, bring myself to vote for Hillary Clinton. I'm hoping that's not a choice I'll have to make.

I am not a Democrat, so the whole "we need to bring the White House back to the Dems!" argument holds no sway with me.
If forced to vote for the status quo, I will pick either Romney or McCain over the Clintons. They at least have a shred of personal integrity. The Clintons are hoping that enough people in November will hold their noses and vote, will over look their atrocious behavior and put them back in the White House.

There are many, many Independents and even some Republicans whom are voting for Barack during the primary. Comments may be from those individuals that believe in his message, but will not vote for Hillary if she's the nominee.
This underscores how unifying Barack Obama can be, while Hillary is sucha polarizing figure that she may force people to look another direction in the General Election if her name is on the ticket.
Underscores even moreso why we need Barack Obama as the Democratic Nominee for POTUS.

To answer the above question:
I am not a Democrat, I am an Independent. I do not believe in parties, their affiliations, morals, ethics, or any of that other posturing.
I do not think all Republicans are "warmongerers" or that all Democrats are "liberal".
This is simply a tool that has been effectively used to control the public and creat a "simple" competition for us all to take part in.
I registered Democrat in December, just in time to Causus for Obama here in Colorado. On 2/6/08, I will go back to the DMV and change back to Independent.
I do not and will not ever vote based upon party. I voted for Clinton, Bush, Kerry in my life time. I will vote for Obama, if I can. If not, I vote for McCain.
I would probably vote for Huckabee, if it was him vs Clinton. But if it's Clinton and Romney, I'm moving to Canada.
Clinton is a stain on the Democratic party, that for the life of all as Independents, we have no idea why the party loves so much.
I would go into detail, but I want to remain positive and support Obama, who has made me excited and believe for the first time ever.
I think you may underestimate the number of Independents that make up the Obama base. Many of us, I think, are so passionate for Obama for two reasons:
1 - He is a great leader who challenges us to take action.
2 - He is not Hillary Clinton.

1. The Democratic Party has been off its bearings since 1968.
2. Barack Obama represents a new wave of positive energy for America, not just the Democratic Party. His views are very progressive and liberal, but his leadership is so inclusive that he transcends party divisions. That should be the spirit of the Democrats. It hasn't been.
3. I don't hate Hillary Clinton. However, I think she has sold her soul to corporate interests. I disagree with her on healthcare reform. I wish she would have voted against the war in Iraq. And I think her divisive spirit rallies the Democrats AGAINST the Republicans but fails fundamentally to unite the country on a positive track.
I never said I would vote Republican if Hillary won. But I probably wouldn't vote at all - or I'd vote 3rd party. I'm committed to Democratic ideas but one of those ideas is inclusiveness and a strong commitment to peaceful communication. Hillary Clinton does not represent those values.

Alot of it would depend on how Barack lost the nomination (of course, he won't). Let's say that the delegate race is tight up to the convention and Billary wins because of her "experience" argument...
I could not in good conscience vote for someone so divisive who basically stole the nomination...
Whether that means I vote for a republican or for Nadar (should he enter) will depend on a lot of stuff. But I can say, Billary will more than likely NOT get my vote!

I am a Democrat that would never vote for Hillary. Her website is unfriendly. What I mean by that is that unless you are posting a glowing endorsement and NOT a political question or constructive criticism, you will be squelched.
There was honestly a point where I was worried that Hillary would be the candidate. So I went to her website to try to sway her a bit on some of the issues and see if I could feel a part of her following. I left feeling completely voiceless and unheard. My post regarding Iran was squelched.
I do not like being voiceless. But Hillary makes me feel invisible. I want to be heard by a candidate that is sensible, intelligent, and has judgement, but can also pay attention to the voters. That man is Obama. But if Hillary takes Obama from us, I will vote against her.

AGHH. Just got off the phone with both my grandmother and my aunt. Both are registered Independents in Massachusetts. Some knuckle head told them they couldn't vote in the primaries, so in spite of being Obama supporters they were staying home.
I just straightened them out. Independents in many (if not all - please check locally) CAN vote in the Democratic Primaries!
Two more almost lost votes for Obama just chalked up.
P.S. My Dad just changed his Republican party affiliation to Independent a few weeks ago just so he COULD vote Obama in the primaries!

Around 8 a.m., I got to my polling place, a city recreation center on the edge of Baldwin Hills in the Crenshaw District, and the line stretched out the door. I have never had to wait this long to vote in any election. Many voters brought their children, and took them into the booth. It reminded me of 1960 when my father let me pull the lever for John F. Kennedy. Today, voters of all ages were there, not just the senior citizens who always come out. There was great enthusiasm--and, an Obama sign as close as legally possible. More Obama signs down La Brea.

I just got back from the polling place. For those of you worried about the vote in mammoth CA, don't forget about voters like me. My wife and I are both independents by stated party preference. By the way, FYI, it is very simple to request a democrat ballot. None of the pollsters have counted us.
I know it will be very late before the talley for CA is finished, but I predict there is going to be a rude awakening for HRC (maybe even more tears in store ;-) ) when the results are all completed.

I voted in California today also. Nice sunny day here, even in the mountains.
I am an Independent and I had no problem getting a Democratic ballot. The woman working asked me to check a box when I signed in for which ballot I wanted, I didn't even have to ask.
My brother is a former Clinton supporter who has converted to Obama, and he is driving 2 hours today to vote because he didn't send out his absentee ballot in time.
I am very optimistic about the outcome in CA today!

Barak, I am keeping you in my prayers. I teach high school kids and we have polls at our school. I feel the electricity buzzing all around us! I am encouraging students to take the time to go vote. I will be voting for you...voting for change...voting for the America I once believed in. OK Everyone! I am just in tears today. I can't get myself together and I have to GOTV today at noon. We have all worked so hard and now I just have to wait! I was calling people till 9pm last night.....I started at 1! I had my kids and my mom and sister calling too. We just have to do this.
I just gave my babies (11month old twins) and my 4 year old a bath and we are headed out to vote! Historic.
I just have to say, this campaign has restored my faith in my country. I have volunteered here in California and Nevada and I have met the most AWESOME people ever, from all walks of life, ages, races, just wonderful. As an African American/Puerto Rican mixed child...I experience a lot of racism, a lot of bullying, a lot of grief. Finally, I can say to my sons (I HAVE 5) and my daughter (only1) that they can really be whatever they want, even the president of the United States.
I'm still crying, but I need to get out to our visibility locations and GOTV! I want to thank all of you for your hard work and dedication. I know we still have a long way to go, but that you for restoring my faith in the great country! Again I as so proud to say that I am an American!
BTW I saw Michelle at my alma mater UCLA on Sunday! Where the (**&^^ did she come from! I was blown away! She is totally awesome! Wonderful! So articulate. No wonder Barack fell in love with her.

Will be caucusing in Colorado & wonder about electioneering rules apply in caucus. Also wonder if HQ can give us support phone numbers in advance of problems tonight. I don't want to dwell on negative but my 'Obama Mama' always taught me 'Hope for the Best but be Prepared for the Worst.'
p.s. I had a voicemail msg from the HRC campaign yesterday...very strong voice about being 'undecided' though my support has pretty much always been in the Obama camp.

That story is actually something of a Clinton campaign ad. That's a normal election day trick to change expectations. Remember New Hampshire? The whole thing was to play Hillary as a victim and evoke sympathy to drive her people to the polls. This story is the same kind of gaming.
The story I would like to see isn't the sneaky 'predictions' made by Clinton supporters but the actual caucus results that show Obama taking a nice prize of delegates from KS.

In my little precinct in New Brunswick, when I usually go to vote, there is no one else voting. But this morning, there were 5 people in line. And they were still coming in after me.
I am proud that I was able to vote for Mr. Obama this morning. Now my Japanese wife and I know that we have a chance to be treated equally whereever we go. That is more than a message of hope. That is something to vote for. Yes we can - and we did.

There are so many people from all over the United States commenting right now and how they are helping out to get Barack Obama into the White House.

My nephew just met our man Barack at the Dunkin Donuts in West Newton, MA! I'm so jealous! I just got to work and had just voted for our next and soon to be "Greatest President" and my nephew is actually shaking hands with him down the street. WOW.

People in states that are selecting candidates for senate (like Minnesota) should be sure to caucus for the person who would work best with a Democratic administration. Don't forget that whatever policy positions a president has it will be much easier to pass them with a friendly congress!
And if you aren't worn out yet, get ready to WORK to get more Democrats elected.

I repeat my question.
I have noticed that many on this blog have stated that if Barack isn't the nominee, they will vote Republican. I find this disconcerting for many reasons. Do we want another war monger in the whitehouse. McCain states, "we could be in Iraq for 100 years." Does your hatred of Hillary really justify more war? I am a staunch OBAMA girl. Have been from the beginning. But, I could not support a republican if barack doesn't get the nomination (which I don't think will happen). I guess my question is, if you don't like hillary for the democratic choice, do you vote mccain? or do you not vote at all if it is hillary? Can we afford to let personal feelings turn our vote to a republican and lose the possibility of a democratic whitehouse? It would kill me to vote hillary, but my conscious would not let me vote republican. what do you think?

I can only speak for myself ... but I'm not a Democrat. I'm an Independent, one who has become 100% in favor of Barack Obama. Unfortunately, my conscious wouldn't enable me to cast a vote for Mrs. Clinton so the question would be whether to sit out in protest, or cast a vote for a Republican. I could cast a vote for McCain (even tho it would be an anti-Clinton vote). I could NEVER cast a vote for Romney.

Just wait until the nominee is chosen (cough...Obama...cough) and most of the "my guy or the highway" talk will fade away.
Right now the question of "if not Obama then will you vote for Hillary" is simply too charged with emotion.
Imagine if a poll were taken today in Hillary's camp asking "If not Hillary then will you vote for Obama?" what the results would be. Imagine the same question to us. Now...what would that poll show eight months from now?

We are on this page here today to support the candidate we all want and believe will be the next President of the United States of America. 1) If you or someone you witness is told they can not vote DO NOT leave the voting area
2) In the era of cell phones, PLEASE use your cell to call someone(police, HQ , etc) Also many cells have video and photo capacity - USE THEM

My husband my 2 daughters and 1 sister have all just voted for Obama in Hillary State. One of my sisters is an Independent and I have changed her mine also. Too bad she couldn't vote today.
Here's a theory from my neck of the woods. Suppose many in my state aren't motivated to vote today, simply because there hasn't been a lot of campaigning here. And "everybody" knows Hillary will win it. That leaves only the Obama supporters with the motivation to vote. I can't wait to see if that pans out.
The letters to the editor in my local paper are negative about Hillary while they are trying to get out the vote for McCain. The others spoke of time for a change and support Obama. What no Hillary lovers in Upstate NY? What an awesome vote, I've never voted in a primary since I first voted in 1972. What a motivator you are Barack Obama. Thank you!
P.S. I drove 220 miles yesterday after working 11P-7A, with my daughter to be at the Hartford CT. Rally. What an incredible, memorable, historical moment it was. Worth every mile, and hour of sleep I gave up. The crowd was a rainbow of faces and all had come to the same conclusion... Obama speaks to COMMON SENSE.

Polls just closed here in Denmark (the country) for Democrats abroad. Not including mail in ballots, the totals were 37 for Hilary and 98 for Barack! Way to go Americans in Denmark!
