I found this a very interesting letter. I am imagining what a wonderful impact Obama will have on the world when he is elected President of the United States. In the Spirit for Obama 2008, TGirl71

June 20, 2008 SIR: It is no longer news that Barack Obama has set another first in the history of America. Indeed America is a land of dreams those who dare to dream. Having become the first black Presidential candidate in the history of the United States, I reckon the sceptics are already having a rethink. Perhaps Obama may indeed go all the way and become the first African American to occupy the White House. But wait a minute, will it still be called White House? With an Obama President in America, the following should be expected: The Ancient city of Ile-Ife which prides itself as the cradle of the Yoruba/Black race will quickly honour Barack with a chieftaincy title, saying his roots can be traced to Ile-Ife with his ancestors family name being "Obamuyiwa" and that the ancestors later migrated to Nyagoma Koyelo village in Kenya but pronounciation changed the family's name to Obama. You may wonder where I got this brain-wave from. Afterall whilst former Governor Odili was still in office in Rivers State, he received a honorary chieftaincy in Ile-Ife and his ancestral roots were traced to the Odilambe family in the ancient city of Ile-Ife who migrated to Rivers State and changed their names to Odili. How amusing. Our Ndigbo brothers - the home-movie producers in Iweka Road, Aba will definitely enjoy a boost in sales of the newly produced film Barack my Love or Obamania and the sorts. These will be blockburster movies hitting the streets after the swearing in of the president. Nigerian names register will start featuring birth-names like Barack Olawale, Obama Bello, etc afterall Nigerians now bear Clinton Peters, Clinton Nnaemeka ...etc. Rememeber a Nigerian Senator Ayo Arise from Ekiti had moved a motion to send a congratulatory message just after the June 3 victory of Barack. Who knows if the lawmakers will change the National Assembly complex into Obama Plaza or Barack Obama Chambers... I understand the stickers are out but where are the Almanacs? We should expect A lot of 2009 calendars to be branded Obamania.
Street names will be changed. And bridges too. Maybe the notorious traffic-plagued Falomo Bridge will become Barack Bridge. Whilst these sound very amusing, I look forward to an Obama Presidency in the U.S. and then I can refer us back to this piece and see how many of my predictions will actually come to pass. Sincerely, Odunayo Omole Lagos
