You know that saying, if you find yourself in a hole the first thing to do is stop digging? How about painting yourself into a corner? McCain is so tied to this war that there's no way he could ever accept anything like getting out, even if the Iraqis themselves want us out. Is being stubborn a good trait for a leader? We all know the answer. That's how we got here in the first place. Some things would just be hilarious if it wasn't really so serious. McCain tried to make a big deal about how Obama should go to Iraq. So now he's there and it's he waited too long, he doesn't admit the surge worked, he made his policy before he left, etc. Wouldn't Obama saying the surge worked be something like McCain saying we shouldn't have been there in the first place? What would be the point, really? McCain doesn't offer anything other than "just keep going like we are." Meanwhile, military families continue to suffer, and our position in the world suffers. My question to McCain is, "and then what? Where are we going with all this?" I know what his answer wouldn't be. It wouldn't be anything like, hey let's, I don't know, try some diplomacy and see how that works.
