This weekend is a very appropriate moment to launch the 50-state general election stage of the campaign, because Barack has now virtually clinched the nomination.
Here's how we get to 2024:
+ Current pledged delegates: 1594.5
+ Current superdelegates: 276
+ Add-on Delegates from states Barack has won by very large margins, and Pelosi Club Super Delegates (SDs that agree to follow the candidate with the pledged delegate majority): 58
+ Conservatively estimated pledged delegates from upcoming contests, based on recent polls*: 96
*WV C+29 Rasmussen
KY C+35 Rasmussen
OR O+12 Rasmussen
PR C+13 Register y Register (PR)
MT Even (no poll)
SD O+12 Rasmussen
Of course, polls can change, and this calculation does not factor in late back-room maneuvering by party officials. So all of this makes it that much more important that everyone mobilize, call, donate, and help Barack win the remainder of the nomination as decisively as possible, so that we will have all the momentum needed to win the White House in November.
Yes we can!
