In 1980, President Carter re-instituted the requirement for males to register for the Selective Service (Proclamation 4771).

Under this Senator Obama was legally required to register during July 1980.

There is no record of his registering and his campaign will not address the issue.

So how do we respond to McCain supporters who post negative remarks about Senator Obama's lack of military experience and his refusal to even register?

According to the Selective Service, approximately 23% of the males who were required to register, did not register. That means that about 800,000 failed to register that year.

Should Senator Obama make a statement about why he did not register for Selective Service?

What does that say about your candidate and his followers?

Obama should be a man about it and admit his error (the statute of limitations have long expired) and tell the public that he is sorry.

It takes a man to admit his errors. Unfortunately, we do not have that.

Hillary hinted that there was some secret about B. Obama that would affect his electability, but never revealed it out of party loyalty. Maybe this was it.

Sorry, but the issue is not going away, as a matter of fact it is jsut picking up steam. For a campaign that has an active anti-smear website, they are curiously silent, so I assume it's probably true. FOIA request anyone?

I think we have a right to ask and to be provided with his registration. Obama lies and obfuscates on issues and associations so no wonder we don't trust him.

If he registered, great!

If not, it is a crime making him ineligible to hold executive branch positions.

I can't believe Proclamation 4771 would have the ability to change the requirements for presidency laid out in the constitution and amendments.

I agree Obama should address this issue; however, let's keep it real. People might base their vote on whether he complied with the selective service registration, or at least want to know what he says about it. It doesn't make him ineligible for elective office, though.

Unofficial (and unsubstantuated?) email from an alleged Selective Service employee outside the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requirements to a private individual.
While I am not calling anyone a liar, Obama was attending college in California on September 4th, 1980.
We need an OFFICIAL statement from both Senator Obama and the Selective Service with a release of his registration document (redacted of personal information) to settle this.
Some are claiming that his grandfather (a WWII veteran) illegally filed the registration. Others are claiming that in January 2008, Selective Service created a record for Senator Obama.
Other still believe he did not register and are calling on Selective Service Director Willian Chatfield to issue an official statement.

Why should someone have to register for foreign wars that have no affect on anyone but a rich few? We should be fighting wars within our boarders like the Ron Paul and the U.S. constitution states. If we wanted to go after Bin Laden fine but what the heck are we doing in Iraq? In case anyone hasn't noticed he isn't there.

It appears that while Senator Obama was away at college in California, his World War II veteran Grandfather filed a Selective Service registration for Obama in Hawaii after Obama refused to register.

The signature on the registration form is not Senator Obama's signature. That is why Senator Obama refuses to release his Selective Service registration.

The campaign released Senator Biden's Selective Service records, but did not release Senator Obama's Selective Service records.

The Selective Service registration form (SSS Form 1) was obtained by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Selective Service.

However, there appears to me many problems with it. For example, the Document Locator Number (DLN) appears to have been issued in '08 instead of '80.

The Form itself appears to have been created in Feb 90 (see lower left corner). The Postal validation rounder stamp is wrong in that it was a USPO instead of a USPS stamp. The postal stamp also had on the Month, and day, but the year was only a two digit year and not a four digit year as required under postal regulations.

The signature of the registrant appears to have been done by someone else. The date of the registrant's signature (July 30, 1980) is the day AFTER the postal stamp (July 29, 80).

Senator/President Obama needs to address this right now!
