Thank You, South Carolina for helping Barack Obama get to the Presidency! Even though this state didn't go for him in the General Election, it did go for him during the Democratic Primary last January 26th. And, it was because this state went for him, (and by such an overwhelming margin 55%) that helped Barack to win the nomination. It is doubtful that he could have won the nomination if he hadn't won South Carolina in the Primary, because people would have thought that if he couldn't win the black vote in South Carolina, then why should we support him. So, it is good that he DID get the black (and 24% of the white) vote during the Primary.
Maybe next time, he will win South Carolina during the General Election! But, even if he doesn't, he still will be in 2012, helping South Carolina to move forward into the future!
Anyway, the South Carolina Dems cut the Republican margin of victory in half. In 2004, George Bush won South Carolina by 17 1/2% points. But this year, John McCain only won South Carolina by 9% points. McCain won 54% to Barack's 45%. That means that Barack was only 6% (5% if you consider that 1% went to minor candidates) away from carrying South Carolina in the General Election!
Again, Thank You, South Carolina!
