Excuse me sir but I think it's ok to be deceived even upset that the candidate you were supporting didn't win these elections.That doesn't give you the right to be so mean, and to talk without respect about the President Obama. Think that no US President was elected at 100% by the population. Deal with the fact that Obama won and nothing will change it,and wait to see the way he'll rule the country for the next 4 years, then judge his presidency.
Also,whateever Obama is Muslim or not, there are so many American mMuslim who love their country and I don't see why they can't rule this country if they have the ability;that's their right as American. But, I think this question is not asked as Barrack Obama is Christian.

You must for exemplary and humane sake get a puppy for your kids from a shelter. Please please please. It will set a good example to the country and the world and save a lot of animals to be put down. I pray to God you do that.

Malia is allegic to dogs so they have to get a breed that doesn't shed. I said he would look to shelter first, but the non shed is key

A shelter dog would be ideal but the hyperallegenic dog is the first concern. My recommendation is to adopt a Miniature Schnauzer. They do not shed and are smart, affectionate and love kids.

Our Mr. President already said he and Our First Lady will be picking the pup from a resuce shelter. It will probably be the countless faceless pup from Katrina.

Dear Mr. President. I heard you speak today about your girl's and wanting a dog. Since your daughter has allergies, I would like to HIGHLY Suggest A Shih Tzu. I have a great little boy and girl I would love your daughters to meet. Both are 1 year old, are potty trained in our home (moving to the big house may cause some issues with finding the right door to go out of). A Shih Tzu would make a Wonderful First Dog, as for they LOVE people, are extremely friendly, easy to care for and are hypo-allergenic! Please consider a Shih Tzu!

just heard the press conference! good job. regarding the puppy: you can get a hypoallergenic dog and a rescue dog, no problem! find the breed that you want and then find the rescue org that specializes in that breed. for every breed there is a corresponding rescue group!
good breeds for allergies are terriers like schnauzers, westies, & scotties, bijons, maltese, etc!!
heres a good list of hypoallergenic dogs!

In honor of Senator Ted Kennedy, why not get a Portuguese Water Dog like his two Portys? His Portys are curly-coated. Portys are hypo-allergenic. They have hair rather than furr, do not shed and they have the least amount of dander of any dog. They are great watch dogs and fabulous with children. They love to swim so your girls would have a blast in the White House pool with their Porty. Pepper, my wavy-coated Porty, is the sweetest, smartest pup around. I invested in a Porty because I have severe allergies so, sadly, a rescue was not an option. Here's what I did because I could not rescue: Made donations to the SPCA and Animal Kind.

I think it would be nice if BO could get a dog from a shelter but that dog must be hypoallergenic due to his daughter's allergies. Few breeds are hypoallergenic dogs so it may be a challange to find a pure breed hypoallergenic dog at a shelter.
Poddles are hypoallergenic, the Standard breed is very loyal, intelligent and gets on well with children.
I hope the Obamas get a hypoallergenic dog and name HER either Collette, Bridgette, or CHELSEA--after me!!!

This is very true. Religion is not an issue in this election. Have you heard anything in his campaign that would affect you religiously? I think not. Regardless, he is not muslim.
I however am. I am a muslim American woman. A WHITE American woman. I support our country, I am not a terrorist, unless you consider that stint back in the 70's. Oh wait I was born in 85. Sense the sarcasm?!
It will forever be the irony of America that we are a melting pot where all men are created equal with freedom of religion yet such discrimination exists. It is for freedom of speech I take any time to read ignorant responses.
Thank you however for defending muslims and making a very valid knowledgable statement.

I am so excited to watch you fill your cabinet. I feel the members you have picked for your administration are the positions that needed to be filled first so you can fill the rest. You will do this right so your message and work ethic can start early. I am thrilled that Gibby will be seen atleast once a week. Question Mr. President, do you choose your own White House Press Core??

Well it MAY indicate that Obama's presidency does not mean the end of Israel, since both Plouffe and Axelrod are apparently also both Jewish. I note this for those Jewish people who are/were so afraid of Obama (my daughter's in-laws.....).

This kind of ignorance cost me a friendship. My best friend from high school. One of my bridesmaids at my wedding. Godmother to my first-born child.
As much as I've loved her through the years, it was like a sheet was ripped from her face. And I do mean that literally.
I remember in high school, she said rather simplistically that she didn't get racism. After all, she said, dogs come in all different breeds and colors (and we love dogs), and they don't give a squat what color another dog looks like.
A wisdom, simple and almost facile as it may be, that she had at 14, that she lost by the time when she was 38.
On August 5, the day after Barack's birthday, she called me up. Talk soon turned to politics, and she started spouting hatred towards Muslims. She was convinced that Barack was a Muslim.
I replied that first off, Barack isn't Muslim. But more importantly, I said, why should it matter if he were?
The kind of hatred, bigotry and ignorance you are spouting is doing incredible harm to our country and to people throughout the world.
Barack Hussein Obama is my President. I have worked hard to make it so. I would have worked as hard if he were a Muslim. He is the one we need now.
He isn't a Muslim. But so what if he were?
Stop holding people's religion against them. You are holding us all back. And we desperately need to move forward.

My election night was a whirlwind. I served on the Colorado voter protection team in Englewood, Colorado. After the polls closed, I headed out at top legal (?) speed to make it back to Boulder in time to see the win announced with my diehard Mama for Obama. I missed my turn, got lost and almost ended up in Ft. Collins. However, I finally re-oriented myself and got home just in time to see VA called for Obama. At that point I went to the fridge to get out the champagne to celebrate VA and was on the phone celebrating with a friend when my Mom screamed out our win. Texts from fellow volunteers and friends from all over the country and one from Uganda were to follow. I then headed across town to watch Barack speak at a friends house with a heart filled with hope and a head filled with a sense of accomplishment. I was headed home to bed, since I had an early flight back to NY in the morning, when I came across a large group of Obama supporters celebrating our victory and an Obama Blue Colorado in the middle of Pearl Street in downtown Boulder. So I parked my car and I joined them.

Right before bed I got the most wonderful message from a friend in Chicago who had taken to the streets and she told me she was certain that as irrational as it sounded that I had made this possible and for that moment it really felt like I had. I spent my election night with three of my children ages 10, 10 and 15. I talked and listened to them about what was going on. When Pennsylvania went our way I explained to them why we will win. About that time, one of my 10 year old sons, Michael, told me he knew what "E Pluribus Unum" means. I asked him to tell me and he said "Out of many, one" and I was proud (later, after he had already gone to bed, President-Elect Obama used that phrase in his speech; overwhelming)
As the time went along, I explained to them that a 11PM, when California chimes in, we will have a knew President. I pointed out to them they would not like President Obama too much. They asked why and i said, "Now you all can not tell me you can't ever again". To which they replied, Aw Dad and we laughed. After eleven, Michael was the only one who stayed up. After Senator McCain spoke, Michael then went to bed. I was sorry they couldn't hear President Obama's speech, but I was proud they stayed up that long (Of course, my daughter missed her bus and I had to driver to school in the morning, but that was OK too)
I felt like my Mother must have felt when she allowed us to watch Senator Kennedy get elected.

I am getting the impression that change.gov might be replacing this as the main Obama blog. That makes more sense than trying to update what has been a campaign oriented site. It is a very well done site, I feel.
There is a blog there which is presently not active, save for a post or two.
I am not sure about any of this. Just thinking out loud.
The transfer of much material -- issues and so forth -- there also opens the door to creating this as a continuing Obama Movement venue which might carry on in the spirit of this, as so much community has been built up here.
It would be nice to have some info from folk who know.

I was a nervous wreck! I couldnt eat, I was just glued to the TV going back and forth between CNN and MSNBC. Soon as the west coast polls closed, 11PMEST, they made the announcement and I still couldnt quite believe it. I refused to go to bed until about 2am, thinking they may have made a mistake. I woke up at 5am and turned on the TV just to make sure it really happened.
This country is so blessed that a man of such greatness will lead us. Thank you to everyone who voted. We did it!
I was a Hilary supporter at first but switched my vote to Obama when she started to get a litte bitter. I remember her speech about how 'a great celestial light will come pouring from the sky' or something like that.
Barack's ideas were a bit Utopian, too good to be true for us jaded Americans having had 8 years of Bush. But I thought, why not? Who better to dream big than our President? Who better to have grand ideas of peace and prosperity? The more I listened to him, the more I wanted it, the more everyone wanted it. And we got the chance to have it. FINALLY!!!

Election night will be remembered by my husband, two daughters and myself forever. We all helped with the campaign in one way or another and felt a great sense of pride upon learning of Barack Obama's victory. We shared the night with family friends, had a great dinner together and celebrated later with loud cheers, laughter and tears of joy. We are thrilled at the outcome of this election and we stand ready to support President-Elect Obama in every way.

I am glad I voted for Obama, not because of race, or beliefs, but because he seems to truely debate on his own decisions. Whomever runs our country, whatever human (man, women, black, white, etc), must be able to look beyond themselves to our country, and at our current precident, at the world at large, and make decisions that effectively include everyone. May you continue to look at your personal beliefs and include the beliefs of everyone in your decisions. We are a country that has made decisions based on singular beliefs without regard to those that it may affect. I am glad that a person who has interspective debates will decide the fate of our nation. And that mine will decide the decisions that I control.

Election night was wonderful. My whole family celebrated together even though most of them were in different parts of the country. We all stayed connected through phones during the evening and we all screamed together in delight when the announcement was made. And fyi - I'm a middle aged Jewish woman!
Remember everyone that probably at least 1/2 of the people who didn't vote for Obama have totally bought in to the lies and smears that have been said about him repeatedly over the last 20 months. It's hard to believe how they can't see the truth and recongnize the kindness, humility and intelligence of our new President but they can't see it yet. Our job is to give them a little time and help them to see the truth. If someone gets on this blog and states their negative beliefs instead of attacking them, let's educate them.
I know lots of Hillary supporters who by the end of the Primary hated Obama because they believed all the negative things and were angry that he beat their candidate. The vast majority of those people came not only to like Obama but to love him. Several have said to me, once they started to really look into him - not through the eyes and voice of his opponents but through their own eyes and through Obama's own voice - they saw this exceptional person and wondered where he came from!!! I told them that his is the same person now as he was during the primary and they realize that this is true but they just couldn't see it then.
So give these people time. Direct them to information to educate them. Post links for them to learn the truth. Remember Obama says you have to speak to your enemy and find common ground. Let's model ourselves after his fine example.

First I am so moved by the result of this election, I believe it is a step forward on the path to true equality in this country. I wish my mother were still a live to see this historic event, she thought so highly of our president elect.
As for the dog, here in the Los Angeles area there are groups that rescue all types of purebred dogs. There is a group for every dog out there. At this point in time it should not be that hard to find a hypoallergenic dog to rescue because many Americans simply cannot afford to care for their pets under these hard economic times. I am sure there are rescue organizations in Chicago and even DC that would have a dog that is perfect for the first daughters.

My cousin in Colorado says that people are rushing to gun shops because of the rumor that Obama will increase taxes on guns and ammo by 500%. I'll bet the gun shops are spreading the rumor, hoping to cash in.

They are in the pocket of the gun manufacturers who are afraid he will close the gun show loophole. They make hundreds of millions of dollars selling assault rifles and other combat arms through gun shows. The guns are bought by smugglers who sell them to drug gangs in Mexico and South America. I hope he does take action.

We were shouting and crying. Some friends of ours grabbed pots and pans and ran down the street banging them.
We were calling and texting friends.
We drank champaign.
We heard fireworks.
People took to the streets and were cheering, and honking car horns.
I've never experienced an election night like this.

Tuesday, I helped to prepare a campaign official "watch the election party". Then I wanted to come back home to take my laptop (there was a blogging center there) or to stay home, depending on the atmosphere on the blog.
I couldn't leave the party place. There were always new people who didn't register to attend who came to ask questions. At 3 am, people were queuing, hoping to enter.
I stayed at home. A spoke on the phone with a friend of mine who created a profile just before election day. She went to bed at 3 am, put her cell phone under her pillow and told me to phone when the result will be sure if it will be Obama. She did want to wake up her boyfriend who had to go to office (she don't work, and I took a day off). I wake her up at 4:45 am, telling her that it was Barack and that he would be speaking in a few minutes.
She is black, from the French Antilles, and suddenly became very emotional.
It was not time anymore for me to go to the party, which was planned to end at 6 am, because I in no way wanted to miss Barack speach live. In plus, when they show it back now, they cut the end, when both familly are huggings on the stage. I love the hugs at 4 people, with President Elect, First Lady, Vice-President Elect and Vice-First Lady.
I went to bed at 9:30 am Wenesday morning and woke up at 7:30 pm... Went to bed when it was day, wake up and took my victory breakfast when it was night !
My friend told me she tried to buy a newspaper with Barack's photo on the front page, but that she had to go to several shops to find one because at the end of the morning all the shops had been devastated.
Today, all the newspapers still had big pics of Barack on the front page.
I saw one of the title which was that 72 % of the French were happy for Obama. Don't know were they find this number. Seems weak to me...
I went to the drugstore after office, and my pharmacist, who knew I was blogging here nights and days congrats me warmly. He was very happy too.

I don't think of it as deity worship. I "loved" John Kennedy when he was president also, but didn't "worship" him.
When I say I "love" Barack, I am referring to his goodness, kindness, intelligence, and the way he cares about others. I "love" my priest too, and I even worship with him, but I certainly don't deify him.
I think you are overthinking some of these remarks. Everyone on this blog is just so happy that their long pent-up emotions are finally able to come out amongst people who feel the same way.

I have noticed that "hero-worship" verges on "deity-worship", too, to the extent that McCain/Palin supporters could not see the huge flaws that were in their candidates, that we Obama supporters could see very clearly. Anyway, I do thank people like you that disagree for helping us to stay honest, though, and you should try it on yourself, and ask if you have any biases that cloud your judgment.

I have to tell you guys this story.
After they announced Barack won my phone started ringing. While I was on the phone I heard someone yelling. Opened the bedroom door and it was my husband. He opened the door and yelled outside, " OBAMA!" THEN FU MCCAIN. Well, the neighbor across from us was opening her door at the same time he was yelling and he startled her so she closed it and put the TV on. Then she started clapping.
My husband had so much pent up inside he had to let it out.

The reaction here was CRAZY.
The elections board here holds a big shindig at the fairgrounds on Election Night and it's the #1 social event of the year. There must have been 1,000+ people in the hall and when 8 o'clock rolled around and the West Coast polls closed, CNN came on with..._not_ "Election Projection" but "BREAKING NEWS" and then announced that Barack Obama had won the election...
...and. The place. EXPLODED.
We knew he had it in the bag 90 minutes before the announcement. Pennsylvania tipped for him, placing him within 74 EVs and we knew the West Coast states had that between them. Local campaign office pretended that it wasn't a mathematical victory, but we knew it was coming up. We went ballistic anyway. Imagine 1,000+ throats ecstatically screaming for all they're worth, for a solid minute.
Yeah, Grant Field in microcosm, I know. But it was thrilling. I cried like an idiot and a photographer took a bunch of photos of me. If you see a photo of a grey-curly-haired woman in a purple brocade pyrate coat, tears streaming down her cheeks, that's me.

I'd been to IN in the morning with my 75 year old mother and 4 & 8 year old kids to GOTV in Hammond. We spent the evening with close friends.
The TV was on - flipping channels regularly. Plus we were checking multiple websites at any one time - following local races as well as the "big one." The kids were coloring in a USA map with blue & red states and adding blue stretches to number line headed for 270.
Every time a battleground state was called for Obama, my cell phone rang. My dad and step-mom calling from PA after phone-banking & staffing polling places all day, my brother in DC who did GOTV in VA, my friends from MI & CA who wanted to check in with me since I was the one who got them "fired up" about Barack months & months ago.
I had just called my brother to congratulate him on the win in VA when the networks declared Obama the winner. I started crying, my mother and husband were crying, the kids raced out to the front porch to scream and cheer at the top of their lungs. My father was laughing & crying when I reached him by phone a few minutes later. The kids insisted on staying up to see Obama's victory speech.
After we finally got them home & to bed at 11:45pm, we found ourselves unable to fall asleep. We kept turning to each other to say how surreal it all felt, how amazing, to ask if we'd seen this shot or that during the speech... It was so hard to turn the unutterable joy down low enough to allow sleep in.

A number of people had been working...up until the last minute...at the local campaign office...it was still Obama 200 electoral votes to McCain 141 when we decided that it was time to make our way a few blocks over to the hotel where a celebration had been planned. My friends and I were just arriving at the hotel when we receive a a text from a friends daughter that just said "OMG" We didn't know what to expect. Then we reached her and she told us that Obama had just declared the President-elect. As we got out our car we started shouting the news to all the other people who were just arriving as well. We all thought that it was funny that just about everyone reached for their cell phone to call some one. We entered the hotel cheering and of course joined the party in the ballroom, large video screen showing the scene in Grant Park, music blasting, people dancing and hugging. YES WE CAN!

I watched the news coverage about McCain's speech and that Palin wanted to speak but a top aide said no....
I can't believe after losing they wouldn't let her say a few words to their supporters that night.
His campaign really sucked!! And now they seem to be taking it out on her. I just feel kind of bad for her because if you look at how it came about she was thrown into it just like that-out of no where. (I know she could have said no but still..) They are really ripping her apart now.
I also heard that John McCain wanted Liberman but they all said no so he picked her basically out of spite. Anyway I just wanted to say I feel bad for her now, I know most of you probably don't so don't starting attacking me for saying this.

It would have been inapproprite for the running mate to speak after the candidate made his concession speech. That was the only classy moment in John McCain's run. Sarah Palin has had many opportunities to be interviewed or to speak since election night. Unlike her own take on what a VP job is .....it really is to support THE Candidate and if THE Candidate is elected, to be able to step in SECOND ONE.
Our President-elect Barack Obama did not move Joe Biden into the number one position making the campaign about himself (Joe) rather than about Obama's message for CHANGE and HOPE. Joe Biden completely understood the position of VP and campaigned accordingly.
McCain did the right thing when he conceeded alone and instructed his supporters to stand behind the NEW President elect, Barack Obama.
Palin and Joe and plumber became cartoon characters in John McCains campaign.
Im glad we elected a SERIOUS leader, proven as unshakable though the long primary and campaign.
I have complete confidence in our new President..I haven't slept this well since 9-11.

She hired a lobby public relations firm to promote her image to the Republican Party and heighten her chances to be selected VP. So don't feel too sorry. She wanted this very badly. The real problem is blind ambition doesn't work when you don't pay your dues and do your homework. She is the most unqualified public servant imaginable.

Lois, I agree with wishing her peace. However she had a choice when initially offered the position and the question was.. If something happened to McCain, could I lead America, could I make a clear, informed independant decision about whether to send troops to war or not, could I look a grieving mother of a dead soldier from any land on the face of the earth that supported by call to arms irrespective of her race or religion in the eye and say I grieve with you and she know I meant it. .. The worst part is who could resist the chance of being VP. a person that knows they are not qualified and regardless of thier own ambitions would put the country first and just say NO! Dawn, don't fall into the trap.
She caused it herself. When she was prepping for interviews she wouldn't listen to his advisors. She thought she knew it all. Palin could have made it much better for women but she set a poor example. For one she didn't even know that Africa was a continent. McCain's campaign didn't want her to mess this final speech up. I think it was the right thing to do as McCain's speech was the old McCain. It ended on a good note for Barack.

Has the VP from the defeated team ever spoken? For that matter has the Vice President Elect ever spoken?
McCain's problem was he let Rove and everyone else tell hem what to do instead running his own campaign and speaking and behaving like the guy from 2000 that we saw a glimpse of during his consession speech.
Palin was a quick careless pick to go after the Hillary voters and conservative religious right. I might have felt sorry for Sarah Palin had she not chosen to campaign in a way that would alianate and divide america but I beleive she knew excatly what she was doing

I don't feel sorry for her at all. It's now being reported that Sarah spent more on clothes than it was reported. She made her junior staff pay for it with their credit cards, to claim it from the GOP funding discretely.
I think it's true, because it's consistent with what she did in Alaska - charging the state for work at home, children's travels etc. She has no integrity. Intelligence can be trained through hard work, but integrity? She has none.

It's the people of Alaska I feel sorry for- hopefully they will deal with her appropriately.
It was an insult for McCain, the Republicans and the media to put this on the American people (the media treated her with kid gloves).
But despite her incompetence - she still stated publicly that it was wrong for McCain to withdraw from Michigan? and Rev Wright is fair game in her opinion.
She's a dangerous unqualified, hypocritical right-wing nut. She deserves all the blame she's currently getting (and more)- she asked for the role. At least McCain ended his campaign with an honorable concession speech - she would have just added to the disgrace of his run for the presidency.

I thank GOD for the knowledge, wisdom and understanding to VOTE for President Obama.
I believe that Obama is a modern day King David. What I mean by that is King David was a very unlikely choice for what GOD wanted to do. Jesse, David's father, presented Samuel all of his sons however, Samuel rejected them because GOD wanted someone that know thought could do the job and David was chosen.
Just think of what Obama had against him. His name, race, not a lot of time in the US Senate, etc.. He was the most unlikely choice for the job. Yet GOD changed the heart of enough people and he won. THANK YOU GOD!!

I spent the night praying, walk up and down the house, my husband was kinda worried cus am 7months pregnant..he kept reassuring me it's going to be OUR night, I kept flipping through all the news station from CNN to MSNBC, Fox ,etc...then the first result came, I was sweating all over then I said GOD please take control and the glory...then the results came coming good, better and then CNN said they projected that senator Barack Obama is the projected winner, changed the channel to FOX, they said the same thing and I screamed HALLELUJAH WITH TEARS ROLLING DOWN MY CHEEKS...went down on my knees and I said GOD YOU ARE AWESOME

I spent Election Day with my Mom. She is 84 and broke her leg in 4 places last week landing her in the hospital and now a rehab center. Glad we voted early in Oregon.
I thought I would be up all night for election results and got home around 6pm. I knew for sure he won somewhere between 8 and 9pm. One of my daughters was in Jamaica on a job related trip. We emailed excitedly back and forth prior to the announcement. One son called me that morning after he voted at 7am since I had nagged him not to wait to the last day when he could vote early. I called my other son in Seattle as soon as I found out it was a win although I was screaming and jumping up and down. He had his message machine on his phone so I called his wife, my daughter-in-law and we just screamed and cried into the phone to each other while my 6 yr. old granddaughter was wondering why Mommy was screaming and crying. I did get to talk with her though. My son was on his phone interviewing for a job. I told his wife I hoped the interviewer was a Democrat! My daughter in China was also watching and excited. Then I proceeded to call all of my Obama friends and we spent happy time on the phone together.

I was at the rally @ Grant Park in Chicago. Just the air was electrifying. The moment they announced the Barak Obama was the next president, the entire crown erupted. The most poignant moment, however, was hearing the whole crowd singing the national anthem. It was an honor to witness history. YES WE CAN!!

Election night was simply the best night of my life!
A friend came over after work for drinks as we waited for the returns to start coming in. At precisely 8:00, as I was getting ready to go to the re-election party for Sen. Lautenberg, my friend screamed at me from the other room, "We won PA!" At that point, I knew we had won. I called the canvassing friends I had made over the weekend in Lehigh County (it turned out that we won that county by 15%!) to bond with them and tell them the great news.
We headed out to the party feeling pretty good. Gov. Corzine and our other Senator (Menendez) were at the party, which was in a nice hotel in New Brunswick. I met up with some of my campaign buddies from the primaries and we were ecstatic that we really had come full circle! The last time I had seen them was at the NJ party on Super Tuesday after we lost our state.
When the election was called for Barack, I jumped up and down, screamed, and cried. It was the happiest I have EVER been in my ENTIRE life. It got even better after the party ended- we went outside to find THOUSANDS of Rutgers students out on the streets, honking horns, slapping each other's hands, screaming, jumping up and down. My friend and I joined in- I have never yelled and screamed like this before. I have never felt such a sense of community and positivity. It was CRAZY! I have never seen anything like this. WOW!
I took videos on my camera phone of all of the excitement that I wish I could share, but I don't know how/where to post them.
This campaign has made me grow and come out of my shell. It's made me feel like I actually CAN make a difference. The donations, phone calls, blogging, fundraising, and door-knocking have all paid off! I am extraordinarily proud of my country and her people. God Bless America AND the Whole Wide World!

A young black Muslim teenager was beaten in NY after Obama won by a gang of 4 with a baseball bat. He is only 17. The FBI are investigating it as a hate crime. They shouted Obama before they attacked him. This is no "B" crime - this one was real. Also a black church was set on fire in PA when Barack won.
Pray for peace.
God is with us - and there are more good hearts than bad.

This country needs a ZERO TOLERANCE policy toward these kinds of acts. EVERYBODY.....we all need to join the Southern Poverty Law Center. This organization is full of VERY courageous people who fight hate groups....They are very on top of things. Let's all join them and clean this country up. WASHINGTON, DC - The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) has issued the following information regarding the availability of tickets for the 56th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony on January 20, 2009:
Tickets to the 56th Inaugural Ceremonies will be provided free of charge and distributed through Members of the 111th Congress. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies does not provide tickets to the public. Members of the public interested in attending the Inaugural Ceremonies should contact their Member of Congress or U.S. Senators to request tickets.
The public should also be aware that no website or other ticket outlet actually has inaugural swearing-in tickets to sell, regardless of what they may claim. Tickets will not be distributed to Congressional offices until the week before the inauguration and will require in-person pick-up.
"Any website or ticket broker claiming that they have inaugural tickets is simply not telling the truth," said Howard Gantman, Staff Director for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. "Tickets for the swearing-in of President-elect are all provided through members of Congress, and the President-elect and Vice President-elect through the Presidential Inaugural Committee. We urge the public to view any offers of tickets for sale with great skepticism."
The members of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies are: Senator Dianne Feinstein, Chairman; Senator Bob Bennett, Ranking Member of the Senate Rules Committee; Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer; and House Republican Leader John Boehner.

Firstly, I spent the past two days leading up to the election making calls to Pennsylvania, Ohio and Nevada. I had some great conversations with independent voters who were at one time leaning to McCain but were now Obama supporters. In 3 instances I persuaded McCain leaners to vote for Obama. That was a great feeling to actually convince someone to change their vote for Obama. I was calling Nevada, but it was getting late (I live in CA) and I had to get to work to teach my college class. I was trying to keep up with the coverage on my computer (CNN) but I had to step away to focus on my class. When I heard a big cheer from the classroom across from me. "Obama won!!!" I put CNN on our overhead projector and we saw the results coming in. Barack had been projected by CNN to be our next president. There were high fives all around. My class was ecstatic. And so was I. The class across from me was excused to leave early in celebration. I was tempted to do so myself, but we too much work to do. Nonetheless, it was an exciting night. I'm from Chicago and now live in LA. I campaigned for Barack for senator way back when. I really wanted to be in Grant Park Tuesday night for the celebration. My Chicago buddies went. They told me all about it. And of course I saw the coverage on TV (albeit a re-run). But as I watched Barack speak, a tear came to my eye. As an Asian American this was an important election for me. Finally, a man of color is our new President. A historic moment for our country and for the world!

And by the way, some people need to calm down. It's going to take TIME for things to get back to the way they were. And the last I checked George W. Bush is still in office till January 30th 2009. Of course Obama is getting ready to be President but still let those who are happyy CELEBRATE! We've had 8 LONG, HARD, horribe years of Bush. I'm still can't believe Obama won and I'll be celebrating hard core till Jan 20th!

I was at Grant park to share this moment with so many supporters. I was standing next to a 60 year old African-American women. We had never met, never spoke a word to eachother, but when she broke in to tears after the announcement that we had elected our first African-American president...I turned to her and hugged her. I felt so inspired. Like a weight had been lifted. Like love had finally overcome all fear. I shouted over the cheers of joy from the crowd. I said "Now we can truly start to heal." She tightened her hug. When I moved back I was starting to cry myself being so moved by this moment. She touched my face and said "You don't need to cry." I will never experience anything like I felt that night. It was life in 3-D. It was the passing on of power to the next generation of Americans. So, for me November 4th, 2008, was a liberation from fear, the breaking down of ethnic barriers, and the resurrection of our nation from the stains of history to the bright guiding light of days to come. Though some are still skeptical...some still fearful...some still apprehensive about opening their mind to a new world outlook...there is great hope. For the seed we planted on this day has already took root. "With malice toward none, with charity for all, One of my favorite speeches with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation's wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations." the guys started the day by calling OHIO
then they moved to PA
while we were calling PA, there was an emergency call to call the volounteers in INDIANA to achieve a higher turnout
Then the guys moved to COLORADO
The New Mexico
and even later Alaska.
What a wonderful experience it was.
People were just overjoyed in tears when it was announced: BARACK OBAMA, The NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...
GOD is GOOD!!!

My election day and evening was spent flying back to Maine from NV where I visited with family. My plane landed in Portland, ME at 9:30. My husband picked me up at the airport and we had a 2 hour drive home. My daughter called to let me know that her state of NV had gone for Obama. We were elated. Then at 11:00 while listening to the radio and with my cell phone ringing Obama's win was announced. I answered my phone, and with my daughter we all screamed in elation and happiness.
As Jet Blue took me over Illinois, I said a prayer of hope for Obama to win knowing he was down there with his family, that Biden was there with his family and that thousands upon thousands were there also.
I had booked my flight last May and took Jet Blue so I could watch the election on the little TV's we all have. But it was in the car in the darkness with my husband, a new American citizen when 11:00 came. We said after yelling and screaming in joy: "WE HAVE A PRESIDENT."
We made it home in time to watch Obama's speech on TV. It was GREAT! The two families were such a beautiful site. How very fortunate Joe Biden is to have his dear mother to share that moment with him.
I'm still in shock with elation after 21 months.

By the way, I went on the McCain blog and just like Kerry did, it's been shut down to blogging. But people can write to McCain. I did. It was a nice e-mail thanking him for his concession speech and asking him for his help to unify both parties for the good of America and to assist us out of the mess of the Bush years.

Election night started out at home, after i got back from my precinct (making sure that everyone in line by 7pm was allowed to vote). My husband, myself and our 3 children (ages 21 months, 5 and 7) watched the returns. We flipped back and forth between FOX and CNN. I logged onto 538 to see if the states that they projected were going into the blue column. We left our home and went to the large pot-luck gathering at my brothers house, where we all took turns coloring in the states as they were announced. When Florida (specifically pinellas county) was shown as blue, the tears began for me...(hard work pays off)..it seemed like it took forever for them to call the state of Florida..it seemed like they were holding it to announce with California and everyone else. When they announced Obama as the 44th president of the United States, I and everyone in the room screamed, cried and praised God. I know that we were pretty loud (especially with my brother blowing his air horn)..dont think his neighbors appreciated that too slick (3 of them had McCain/Palin signs in their yard). We called and texted family members in other states, expressing our excitement and pride. The image of the diverse crowd of students that approached the white house touched me all the more. I never thought that this would happen in my life time. Sleep did not come easy Tuesday night (too much excitement)!!

I knew President Elect Obama won, when John McCain lost Pennsylvania, because the pundits said his path to victory was winning Pennsylvania. When he reach 270 and beyond, I called my mother and cried on the phone. I said we did it mother. I am glad my mother was here to see Barack Obama become the 44th President of the United States of America! This is the first time in my life, I am proud to be an American!

Rachel has been annoying me lately. She freaked out over PA, now she's complaining that there aren't enough new faces in Obama's transition team so far, blah blah blah.
Obama is PRESIDENT. The people he's appointing will listen to HIM. NOTHING Obama has ever shown that he's weak minded and that he sways easily to new ideas or random changes in events.
Clearly, Obama's looking for competent and loyal folks. So far, so good.

My night and my days continue to be the most incredible time in my life. Shortly after knocking on doors for GOTV, driving in my car I received a call that Florida looked really good. That call hit me, the tears rolled down my face...this was really happening! I knew then we were going to win, I was compelled to spend the evening with my family instead of going out. This was a special night to remember, to be proud of my country, proud to be an American and proud to be an African American, we HAVE overcome as a nation. When the news flashed on the screen, I lost it! Tears, shouting, joy, pure elation! My sister and I were ecstatic. This is a time I will never forget. A time that I can share with my children and grandchildren. Thanks to technology I have all of my memories recorded, even when President Obama shook my hand! This is what LEGACY is all about.
I'm especially grateful that HOPE prevailed! Thank you President Elect Obama and Vice President Elect Biden, we love you and will continue to pray for you and your families! God Bless You!

Rahm Emanuel is not a Zionist. It is true, his father is, but that's not Rahm's responsibility. Rahm is an orthodox Jew. That doesn't make him a Zionist in any way, and there is no evidence he is, and he has been in the public eye for ages. (In fact, some right wing media pundits complained that he's much too liberal to count as centre.)

The appointment of Rahm Emanuel and consideration of people such as Dennis Ross are not indications of change, but of the status quo. Both these individuals are pro-Israeli hawks, individuals who have done little to consider the interests, lives and sacrifices of the Palestinian people. What is the point of Obama having power if we are not going to change the "mind-set" of U.S. foreign policy which Obama promised to do?
Rejoice in his victory, but we all need to come back to earth sooner rather than later and be prepared to punish his administration when or if it continues to stand idly by while Gaza is allowed to be starved and cut-off from the world or while Afghani civilians are murdered from U.S. warplanes. It doesn't matter to the families in Afghanistan or Gaza who suffer directly/indirectly from U.S. policies whether the U.S. president is Black or White if these policies continue.

I'm getting annoyed by the media and many blogs with all of the quarterbacking too.
But I think it's a good sign that Obama's making the right decisions. Every time people complained, criticized, etc., Obama stuck to his decision and prevailed.
Methinks Obama knows more than some random person sitting on their ass behind their computer, blogging on the President Elect's website.

Kimberly, Vero - I agree.
The man is not in office yet. I don't know if people feel the need to express themselves, complain or what. This I do know, "This One", the 44th President of the United States of America will do all that he can, every day of his life while he is in office to serve the people. We won't agree with every thing that he does and we may not initially even understand the whys and as I mother used to say - the wherefores - but I have no doubt in my mind that he will do what he said he will do and we will be on his mind every day.

Will,
First off, Emmanuel is not leader of Obama's foreign policy team or anything like that. Second, ISRAEL AND THE PALESTINIANS have got to get their stuff together. The U.S. can try all we can, but if those two groups don't want peace (which that seems to be the case), then there's nothing Obama can do.
Second, Obama is the President of the U.S. - not Afganistan or Gaza. So, sorry if his decisions aren't what the people in those area would like to see. Obama wants to spread peace in those areas, and will do all he can, but I suggest the people in those countries start trying to get their own people under control.

The Change you are mocking is in actually in full force already. The change that Obama is bringing is appointing people that are actually qualified for the jobs in which they are appointed and not governed by politics or popularity.

He's always surrounded himself with people who are qualified, people who are experts, who KNOW facts, who KNOW how to get things done. No Palin picks, gimmicks, or 'razzle-dazzle'.
Barack is keepin' it real and I find that to be very reassuring.

From what I can see Emanuel is a smart pick. The Chief of Staff does not make policy, he has to be smart as hell, tough as nails, and completely loyal to the President. Emanuel passes this test. Jimmy Carter gave us such great hope because he was a decent, honorable, and intelligent man but he failed because he didn't know his way around Washington. Obama is not going to make that same mistake. This is why he's chosen "Rahmbo" to be his chief of staff.

how my election night was like. I was watching CNN waiting for results when my already drunk friends showed up wanting me to come get messed up with them. It just turned into probably the craziest night and it ended up being a real bad situation, but hopefully you change all the things you say you're going to. I'll be honest, i'm not as an enthusiastic about you as my friends are. It takes a lot of money and people and time to do the things you are talking about changing. I am always confused when presidents say they can change the economy though. When the government doesn't control at all the distribution and loans of government, the central bank does which i am strongly against.
I hope you have a good and successful four years though.

Yes, donations or not, there is no difference in "user friendly" status. This site is constantly being renovated, and sometimes portions of the site are temporarily slow from high volume, or unaccessible during updates.
While you're waiting, try some of the other features, join a few Groups, take a look at the Learn and Issues menus, read some blogs, start your own. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures with us. WOW. I can't believe that I didn't even think - our guys had to wait, sit, watch, count too!! LOL
My brother called me; I hadn't watched any TV all day. At that point the count was something like 80 something to 30 something. We talked about how we wished our parents could see this day and laughed about how each one of them would have felt. We talked about how we were changed and would be committed going forward in being active participants in the political process. When that number reached 200, we we like OMG, we're going to do this. It seemed like a life time before the number changed; we keep talking to the TV and each other wondering - okay - when is that number going to move, what's up with that other number going up!!! LOL. What a night!!! When they called IN we were estatic; that's where he lives and we kept wondering what was up with NC. Oh, but when that number jumped in a blink of an eye (we hadn't realized that it was 11 and they could official make the call) from 200 to 284 (can't remember actual number now, just know it was above 270!!!!) we shouted and danced and jumped up and down. He had to get up very early so he went to bed, I stayed up until about 4am yesterday, slept for a couple of hours and woke up and cried. I will never forget that night and being happy to share it with him.

Hey to all,
Good choices were made today for the Obama Cabinet. I am concerned about the GA Senate Runoff which favors the GOP. It is very strange that Gwinnett County, GA which is upscale like Northern Virginia went for McCain. I saw the lines and the huge proportion of African Americans voting early. I think that something is real wrong here. Also, I heard that all the ballots have not been counted (absentee and early). The Secretary of State is a Republican, and cannot state whether all the ballots have officially be counted. There doesn't seem like much accountability. Keep in mind that the Governor is also Republican. I think it is time to lawyer up, and check Gwinnett County. Jim Martin is the GA Democrat Senate Candidate, and this lack of accountability may actually affect his victory. This is highly disturbing!!!

Speaking of ballots cast:
I have a question regarding Alaska's vote totals? Has anyone else heard that the totals in Alaska were much lower than expected?
Were they lower than 2004?
And what's happening in Missouri, are they counting the Provisionals? Last I heard, there were about 7100 uncounted.

Yes, I heard that about Alaska, too. I'm concerned that provisional and early votes may have not counted in several states. I wonder what is being done because it sounds like tampering.

I was sure Sen. Obama would win in a landslide. I was convinced of this after seeing the results from the Iowa caucus. It was clear from the results that Sen. Obama had been able to turn thousands of people through a long period of exposure, and they had selected him over the solid and thoroughly capable Sen. Clinton. I knew then, this win was inevitable.
I was even more sure after the Pennsylvania call. When they called Ohio, I told Monica, my wife, Sen. Obama had won. She was still nervous for him, and cheering when Mr. Olbermann called the presidency an hour later.
We stayed up to listen the spectacular speech. Sen. Obama seemed a bit apprehensive, a bit rigid walking up to the podium. I believe he felt a great weight, as the responsibility of the presidency landed on his shoulders, the call of the 100,000s of people present at the park, and the millions watching on TV.
It was sobering, historical, powerful, and monumentally moving.
A landmark moment for humanity.

Here's what I wrote on election night (I posted this on one of the billion blog posts on tuesday also)
I know everyone is full of amazing stories tonight.
But tonight for me was incredible.
After a full day of canvassing and calling VA voters (and math class and a chem lab):
First, I got a ride home from my apartment near University of Washington campus from my Dad. We heard the result from Ohio declared in the car on the way home. That was the first time I cried.
Then, once my mom got home from canvassing, we piled in the car and went to a nearby Obama office to turn in her canvassing sheets. There, the polls in the West closed, and a room full of Obama volunteers there counted down, and screamed as MSNBC called the election for our man.
Then, back into the car and we tried to get downtown as fast as we could. We listened to McCain's great speech on the way.
We parked and ran to the Westin Hotel. People were streaming in the doors. We got to the ballroom in time to hear the end of a speech by Rick Steves (Traveles in Europe! He's a Seattlite!), then watched CNN on huge screens. We got some wine, and pretty soon Obama was on. The roar of the crowd was almost painful, and I was just stunned watching the Obama family take the stage. And of course, another incredible speech. It was the last bit that got me crying. The excitement in the room was fantastic-- everyone screaming and clapping straight through the speech.
Obama finished up, and we decided to wait around to watch Christine Gregoire, our governor, who is leading by 4% so far tonight. She declared victory (hopefully not too soon) and gave a great speech. Afterward, I met Maria Cantwell, one of our two women senators, and Gregoire! I also met our former Mayor, Norm Rice, and our County Executive Ron Sims.
My favorite part of the night, though, was the walk back to the car. Cars were honking, people were screaming, and dancing in the streets. Seattle is alive tonight.
We did it. Thank you to every single one of you, and most of all, thanks Barack.

We are not going to agree with all of Barack's picks and we all should know that. We just have to pray that Barack is lead to the right people and the right choices.
No one should attack someone on this blog that does not agree with Barack's picks. We just have to learn to agree to disagree but we should all try to find a middle ground.
So far I don't have a problem with his picks.

You might want to skip down to verse 37 in that biblical passage and read it too. As you have verse 26 noted on your page, not only is it taken out of context, it doesn't apply to President-Elect Obama.
