Drunk in Obama's motherland, Ireland
People of Moneygall eagerly anticipate Obama win
The people of Moneygall in Co Offaly are already celebrating even though it will be hours until the US presidential election results filter through, writes Ronan McGreevy in Moneygall.
Ever since diligent research by local Church of Ireland priest Stephen Neill revealed the improbable link between Barack Obama and his great-great-great grandfather Fulmouth Kearney who left Moneygall in 1850, they were preparing for an epic night, and it isn't the first one they've had this week.
Moneygall might geographically be in Offaly, but spiritually and sportingly it is in Tipperary and the junior hurlers were still celebrating the club's first ever county title which they won at the death by a point on Sunday.
The global and the parochial are gathering in Hayes' pub in the village tonight, the epicentre of the expected celebrations for an Obama win.
The cup nestled under an American flag and the walls of the pub, one of only two in the village, were plastered with Obama posters.
For many tonight's celebrations, slightly premature though they might be, were simply a continuation from the all night Sunday and all day Monday routine which follows a historic county final win.

I've never been so proud to be an American. With hope we as a people can work together to make President Obama's time in office even more of an historical fact for history books in the future. How he united the people to work together side by side to accomplish big things like alternative energy and using less; clean water and air...recycling as habit. Health care for everyone "no hand outs everyone has something to offer, no one is useless"....education and how very important it is to everyone no matter how old or what language they speak...above all a sense of community as neighbors get together to help each other,as so with school districts, cities, counties, stat es...and nations of the world. We are all one people...for better or worse we need to acknowledge and help each other. In peace we will prevail...Congrats everyone on a job well done. Love,Denise

My name is Robin the Nurse and I am not related to Joe the Plumber! The only thing we have in common is that we both are middle-class Americans.
Now that we have accomplished our goal of getting a name change for the Senator from Illinois, the soon to be President Obama has a daunting task ahead of him. We need to be at his side and never again be the complacent by-standers of our Democracy.
While Bush and Co. were trying to Nation build abroad, our own nation was crumbling. We cannot let this happen again. We need to be there with President Obama, helping him, guiding him, and letting him know when he gets it wrong. He will get it wrong at times and we need to get him back on track.
I hope the new President keeps up this web site so that we can all remain communicating.
This was a hard fought battle, but the hardest battles are yet to come, be fought, and together won. Only together can we succeed, only together can we carry on this noble task, only together can we change the world. Yes We Can!
What we have collectively done has impressed upon the world that anything is possible if people are willing to work hard and sacrifice to make it happen.
Thank you, President Obama for all your hard work and sacrifice. May God Bless you and your family.
May God Bless, America!

I completely agree. Barack is currently receiving iconic level love from not only the US but the world. We must remember that he is only a man and as such subject to temptation. We must vow to never again return to the state of complacency from which we just broke through. I encourage everyone to keep communicating, be strong, share your doubts and concerns. Together we must pave the road that hope tells us is possible. One of the announcers spoke well last night when he stated he would be praying for Barack's soul, that it remain strong and true. I would encourage everyone to do the same. A government must answer to the people that it represents. I believe that we have all spoken well.

The 2008 Presidential campaign is now the title page of a new chapter of American history. This is not a flowery slogan, it is a fact. (Check the history books, 10 years from now.)
I would like to do more than say “Thank You” to those that worked on the President elect’s campaign. I want to congratulate all of you on your perceptive foresight, your concern, and your initiative. That is a wining combination and all of you, especially the younger volunteers should be very proud of your selves.
What we have accomplished is nothing short of a non-violent revolution. But a revolution is a beginning. The next chapter is yet to be written. President Obama will do as much as he possibly can for us, but how much he can accomplish is up to us!
I am coming to think of the next few years as a cross between the social movements of 1960’s and the mobilization during World War II. When President Roosevelt was told it was impossible to produce the number of planes, ships, tanks and trucks needed to fight in Europe and the Pacific, Americans said, “Yes we can!” A generation of Americans went to work and amazed and impressed the world by producing more than twice that “impossible” number. And keep in mind that millions of young Americans were fighting on two massive fronts. It was mostly women like “Rosy the riveter”, Barack’s Grandmother and men who could not be solders that accomplished this feat that saved the free world.
In the coming months President Obama will call on Americans to go to work on the many, many things we must do to reach our goals. I have no doubt that all of you who made this historic campaign happen will be among the first to stand up and say, “Yes we can!”
Humbly yours,
Donald Kain

I just want to express how excited I am for America right now. Even though the comment Michelle made about being "proud of this country for the first time" proved to be quite controversial, I am in total agreement. Change has come to America! For once in my life, when a black child tells me they hope to grow up and be President of the USA, I can actually look them in the eye and encourage them with sincerity. I no longer have to just grin and nod my head because "it's the right thing to do" when a child has such big dreams. I am also proud of America now because as an African American woman, when I went to the polls this year, it was not strictly out of a moral obligation to my ancestors. I didn't feel like I was choosing the lesser of two evils, just hoping to glean some of the benefits intended to enhance white America. It was as if this candidate personally had ME on his mind and invited me to feast at the table with him and every other U.S. citizen. It bothers me that people would assume that the African American voter turnout was so high this year because the candidate was black. The truth of the matter is that Barack Obama made ALL Americans feel as though they were significant in this election. Blacks, whites, Jews, Gentiles, and yes, even Muslim Americans now have the audacity to hope. The American dream lives on! It would be a fallacy for me to say that this election has no special significance to African Americans. It has not been an easy journey for African Americans in this country. And I don't view Obama as the president who is going to "rescue" black America. Nor do I want him to "rescue" black America. Like every American, our destiny in life depends on our own will to succeed. But what I do want is a president who ensures an equal playing field for ALL Americans. I am truly encouraged in my spirit and excited about the great things to come in my own future because of the example set by the Obama family. All things are possible to them that believe, work hard, and trust God. Go OBAMA!!!
