Today the Presidential Inaugural Committee announced the launch of USAservice.org, a new website that will allow you to organize service events in your community and recruit others to join you as part of President-elect Obama's call for a renewed commitment to service:
Today, we’re pleased to announce the launch of USAservice.org, a new website dedicated to President-elect Obama’s national call to service. We encourage you to visit the site today and sign up to host or attend a service event on January 19th, the day before the Inauguration. Buffy Wicks, the director of Renew America Together, recorded a short video about USAservice.org. Take a look: As part of a broad initiative called Renew America Together, the President-elect has asked us all, united as Americans, to restore our commitment to local and national service. While government has an important role to play in helping to rekindle our economy and addressing the problems of a distressed nation, he believes that we have a responsibility to help our communities and fellow citizens. In summoning a new spirit of service, President-elect Obama is calling on us to make a lasting pledge to our country. In his words:Success will not come from Washington – it must come from the dynamism, determination and ingenuity of the American people; through new partnerships between states and cities, the public and private sector; and through the active involvement of the American people. This begins on January 19th, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, when Americans across the nation will participate in a day of community service. At USAservice.org, you can find events to attend near you. You can also sign up to host a local event.Visit USAservice.org today and sign up to host or attend an event. The site will be a useful resource to find opportunities to serve and later share the results of your actions. While we encourage you to get involved on January 19th, our pledge to serve must remain an enduring commitment for the future. President-elect Obama looks forward to leading the country forward with his call to Renew America Together.
