Debbie’s daily prayer for P.E. Obama
By: Debbie for Obama/Biden Thank You Jesus!
Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Daily Prayers For President Obama!
I pray that Jesus Lead and Guide President Obama in the right direction, I pray that he gives him wisdom, knowledge and understanding on the issues he will face. I ask that He help him make the right decisions during the most difficult times and crisis. I also pray that you lead and guide all of his cabinet members and member in his Administration in the right direction. All these things and more I ask in Jesus Name!
Love, peace, joy, health, hugs, and hope!!

And that hot pic of yesterday of Barack wanting to kiss Michelle, so hot, with the music perfectly on time with it, lol ! I did'nt catch of the words, but I caught "kiss".
Great job, particularly as it has been done in a short time.

Good morning, Carey, on this bright and beautiful new day! So glad to see you! Wasn't it a joy and a marvel? We celebrated last night by throwing a huge bash for the kids at the science center, with the inauguration replaying in the star theater (kinda like a planetarium theater). It was so wonderful to see the kids connect to the event in such a meaningful but super fun way, and it was awesome to be able to say thanks to the Iowa families who worked very hard and made a lot of sacrifices to make this day possible. But most meaningful for me was when I was cleaning up afterwards and the custodian asked where he could get one of the yard signs (which we had used as decoration). I said, here you go, and gave it to him. Tears came to his eyes, as he was overwhelmed by what this day meant. He told me how he remembers those dark days all too well, he has known great prejudice and discrimination (he's in his 60s and from MO, not IA), but now he has hope that maybe we can truly get beyond that, for everyone, so no one will be discriminated against, for any reason. It was such an honor meeting him, the perfect end to a perfect day.
And seeing you here this morning as I briefly pop in is the perfect start to this one!

I'm traveling through New Zealand and I got up at 5:00 A.M. to try and be as part of the celebration as I could. I heard today that our President is sticking to his word about corporate lobbyists. I, like most Americans am proud of our new president. I hope that he continues for change, but I'm wondering if our freedoms are going to be given back to us? I ask my new president:
Is there going to be a repeal on The Patriot Act?
Is it right for companies to start putting RFID chips in the products we buy?
Why do we need them in our new Passports?
I hope that this is real change all the way down the line. There are some really appalling information that I have been hearing about and frankly I'm scared of what is to come. I hope.....CHANGE.
Congrats

For some reason I don't think the Patriot act will completely be repealed...I think it will just be replaced with something else that is in line with the constitution...
Basically the Patriot Act was the sole bill written in and for the post-9-11 world...
The replacement needs to deal with how we will deal with these threats....
We also have to know the extent of these abuses in dealing with them, so once the Patriot Bill is gone we are able to go to these agencies, go to each individual program and make sure they are in compliance...

didn't take nearly as long as searching the DM register usually does. and after 20 minutes and an entirely different focus of the interview, i have no idea why i'm still surprised that he took one obscure statement. my broken viewing revealed to me that he was asking us to hearken back to moral values that have been forgotten of late as we move forward to be ultimately very inclusive. but i got more paragraphs than the political talking heads @ least lol.

Hey Mary! They interviewed me as well, but decided not to use anything I said--probably a small blessing, as the number of inaccuracies in the article is all the more remarkable for its brevity:
Link
. It gets the name of our event wrong, which I specifically told him was the First in the Nation's Inauguration Celebration--I guess he felt renaming it the Family Friendly Inauguration Celebration was simpler and more descriptive. And he says our appetizers were "purposefully diverse" like we went out of our way to include different cuisines to make some kind of statement, and threw in pigs in a blanket to intentionally "represent the comfortable cultural stew that is America." As the person who made the selections, I can assure you we were just thinking of what was good, tasty, and easy to eat, especially from a kid's point of view! I guess as some will look at Barack Obama and see simply a black President, some will look at quesadillas and see simply a Mexican food! At any rate, though, we had an absolute blast. Hope your celebrations were wonderful as well.

yeah, i have long given up on the media getting what i said right.....i was first quoted when i was in my twenties for an article, and told her she could use my words if i was allowed to approve what she said first, as it was a sensitive matter and emotionally charged. of course that was NOT what happened, the article wasn't even about what she said it was, and since then....lol but still it surprises me....i know it shouldn't by now.

Jonas Brothers Surprise First Tweens with White House Visit
January 21, 2009 7:48 AM
ABC News has learned that after their scavenger hunt last night, First Tweens Malia (10) and Sasha (7) Obama were paid a surprise White House visit by the Jonas Brothers.
The visit came after Malia, Sasha, and some of their friends from their new school Sidwell Friends saw two new Disney movies -- High School Musical 3 and Bolt -- and participated in a scavenger hunt in which they ran around their new home, learning about this history of the White House. White House ushers had organized a similar scavenger hunt for a young Chelsea Clinton when she first moved into the White House in 1993.
At the end of Malia and Sasha's scavenger late-night hunt, they opened a door to discover their favorite musical performers: Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas -- the pop boy band sensation who first exploded on the Disney Channel and also appeared earlier this week at the Kids' Inaugural Concert.

Me too !!!! I always loved Amazing Grace, but this one was beyond words... When the singer starded mouth closed, it gave me a start. I hope there will be a video to keep the moment.
To see Barack pray is something to share (it's far beyond to watch, it's to share). You have the impression he really lives the moment, completely concentrated, and centred, and at the same time completely present to what happen around him, really being with the other people.
I several other times had this impression. And it was the same during the Inauguration ceremony yesterday.

It is something that I never fully recognized nor for that matter even considered while working so hard for this man to be our President.
I worked for him not because he was Black, although it filled me with enormous pride, but rather because I was convince he was the one we needed at this time.
Now that I am at last able to take a step back and gain some semblance of perspective, I had to smile today at the poetry of God.
God could have chosen any AA to bless with the abilty to make this Journey and reach this goal. Yet he chose a man who has roots in both America and Africa who's very name has not been co-opted
Barack Obama is as African as Kunte Kinte yet he is as American as Steven Jones.
It is as if God said for the FIRST of them it shall be so that he embody both there from which came and there of which he wound up. That he shall bear the name of those who built this house.
What a beautiful poem ... Thank you God!! ... Thank all of you here for being God's pen!

You're a liar pure and simple. You have a very small mind. The troops were laughing and very happy to be talking to the President. He said he will be in Afghanistan again. He said nothing about "I might go." Every network commented on how well he was received by the military men/women at that ball. It's going to be hard for you to keep up your loser mentality for the next 8 years. Everybody understood him except people with little minds. Your jealousy is showing.

Ronnie, since you seem to know just how the troops feel, perhaps this means you've been to Iraq and/or Afghanistan? If not, I suggest you suit up and go over. THEN you'll know how hard and loudly the troops cheered when Pres. Obama was inaugurated.
My son who's sitting in Baghdad emailed me telling me how the troops cheered as they watched. He should know; ge's there, you're not.
There are a few uneducated ones who still don't know what a draft dodging Nat'l Guardsman Bush was, despite his swagger and hawkishness. They'll eventually learn the truth.
BTW, didn't you start these negative posts during the GE? Don't you get it by now? Barack Hussein Obama not only won but has now been inaugrurated. Like it or not he's YOUR president. Hell, if I had to live with Bush for 8 years, surely you can live with a man who hasn't even been in office 2 days yet.
Check back if he screws up then spew your venom.
Better yet, get some friends to communicate with.
p.s. NO ONE could possibly screw up worse than Bush, BTW.

For the first time in the history of presidential inaugurations the new president included "non believers"...I think there is room for everyone in the Obama tent...If you don't enjoy the "good feelings" and song of the the prayer service it is easy enough to turn it off...And I don't mean for that to sound snarky, but it is true we can't deny that over 90% of our democracy believes in a Supreme Being so a prayer service is not out of line...It is when people (like Sara Palin) want a theocracy to govern by that is when you will hear me screaming...Enough! But until then an hour prayer service of brotherhood and sisterhood, and of peace is not objectionable to me.

"Rick Warren really disturbed me yesterday by invoking the name of Jesus"
I'm glad to find I'm not the only one that was put off by that. I'm still bristling over it.
At the very least, he alienated half the country, never mind hundreds of millions of the estimated billions of people watching the Inauguration. At the worst, it was an insult to separation of church and state. I felt awkward and put off.
Yeah, most of the US is Christian. Let's swing it the other way: Imagine that the majority were Pagan, the cleric invoked Mithras, or Dana, or Wotan, there were bonfires burning throughout the crowd and we passed jugs of wine around. Say the Mormons in the crowd objected to the decidedly Pagan activities and being "expected" to break their vows to not consume alcohol. Say the atheists smirked and made snide comments about "imaginary friends."
There's a reason we keep church and official state functions separate, other than keeping the IRS's mittens out of the collection plate and prevent the rise of a homebrewed Taliban-style theocracy.
The Obama campaign was all about inclusiveness and riding our differences into a stronger collective. Reverend Warren snubbed those of us who aren't Christian by his invocation; and it disturbs me that Barack knew he'd say that. Either that whole "unity" and "celebrate our differences" zeitgeist was window-dressing and the assault on our religious freedom is continuing, or Warren was being a dunder-headed jerk.
When I first heard he was being tapped, I thought, "Okay, it's an invocation, it's not a cabinet position. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt and let him speak his piece." I believe in the power of words because I pray to Djehuty (Thoth, the Divine Scribe), and absolutely uphold Freedom of Speech.
By ending out the invocation with the Our Father, Rick Warren told half the country that Whoever they prayed to didn't count, and told the country and the world that America is a Christian nation. It is NOT. The Constitution doesn't mention God or Jesus anywhere in it; that was the Declaration of Independence. America is a secular state, and the Constitution is the overriding scripture in the land.

Ronnie,
I'm going to give you a piece of advice. For 8 years, George W. Bush was our President. I didn't vote for him and like you feel about President Obama, I didn't agree with Bush's stances at all.
What I didn't do was troll around on Bush-related websites dissing him and complaining. I didn't listen to right wing radio. I didn't drive myself crazy obsessing over him and spoiling other people's moods with my negative feelings toward him.
What I did do was find and support people I felt could provide the type of leadership I could get behind. People like our new President. I volunteered. I worked hard to do good in my own life and in the lives of those around me. I focused on things I could positively affect. YOu should try that instead of what you're doing now.

This week an organization I had contact to help get me food donations for disabled low income seniors came with 8 vans carrying food, clothing and books. They were called the Obama Team.
I asked why they were called that. They had all worked in Temecula as an election team for Obama and when they tried to disband they were told by Obama's staff ---no this is time to go out in the community and serve---.
They looked for an organization and chose Temecula Valley People helping People.
They brought over ----$400- dollars worth of food to each family and other items to 42 families. Delivering it directly door to door in a low income housing complex. Milk, bread, fresh produce, canned and boxed items for future use, new clothing, books, gift certificates for special items, paper goods, household goods and more.
They did not give just stuff they gave themselves.
They promised to help us more with specific needs aand be there for us long term. How wonderful.
Wouldn't it be great if every team that worked towards our President's election went out in the community and did work for children, parents, seniors, and animals. Wow the impact would be far reaching.
Even if you did not work on the election team please go out and help. There is abundance in our county we just need distribution channels--you and our great companys, businesses and manufacturering companys to get what is needed directly where it is needed and when it is needed.
May this new President continue to inspire and ask for people to reach out into our communities.

Thank you Mr. President for sharing yesterday with the world. What an honor it was to watch you and your family. To the glee in your eye during the swearing in, to the moment Malia knew she was in trouble for taking pictures during Rev. Lowery's Benediction, to see you walking with Michelle during the parade to dancing the night away; it was extremely exciting and endearing to see. I cried a lot, smiled and laughed yesterday but mostly, I was hopeful that America is getting back on track after a long hiatus.
To see how much we are alike, was awesome. You were concerned when the lion fell ill, your message was captivating and moving, your smile was infectious but most of all, you were calm, cool and collected when you needed to and were as giddy as a couple fresh from a honeymoon.
You called us to continue to do the work that we pledged we would do and I am ready to take on that task. You have empowered many of us with grace, intellect and more importantly with your deed.
The world now can see that anything truly is possible. Your life hasn't been a cake walk. Growing up in Hawaii and Kansas of a mixed race and a funny name, had to an overwhelming experience but instead of being cynical, you choose to chart a course, unlike any other. And after all of the "No's" you endured, the now infamous slogan of, "Yes We Can" truly has laid the foundation for generations to come.

Yeah, he didn't pay his taxes. I'll bet everyone here knows at least one other person who didn't, either, for whatever reasons. Given the way our taxes have been spent during the last administration, can ya really blame him?
But, he paid them back, including interest. That puts him ahead of the tax evaders' curve, IMO.

What they are accusing him of is something very serious.......I agree with Geithner's explanation, and the context that this is a common mistake by Americans working abroad, but if you leave out the whole context we are talking about evading $34,000 in tax..by someone in an organization that oversees the IRS.....They are removing the context..It was the Obama team's fault for not just coming out with this earlier so it wasn't a surprise and they could explain it......They sort of screwed this up..Look, these Senators have to represent their constituents, and you just have to respect that..a lot of Americans see the news on Geithner and are upset...they have to resolve it.....

Look, everyone knew that Clinton had the qualifications for the job, and would win the vote with an overwhelming amount of support....
Nonetheless they had to resolve certain things like her husbands foundation so it was clear those in other countries can't donate to the foundation to gain favor with the secretary of state...this needed to be resolved...I'd much rather have it resolved now then a year into Hillarys run at SOS some allegation is made and turns into a fake scandal..
Geithner had a reasonable explanation for his mistake that added context with it...without context it should have disqualified him...but he had legitimate reasons..
With Holder there are legitimate concerns with him not having shown independence working under Clinton...so much so that Holder himself assumed he would never return to public office when he left the white house in 2001....
Obama's message of change puts him under scrutiny...
With Geithner it seems it was a mistake on the transition staff to not to put this out in the press earlier, be open about it and present their side instead of wait for it to be uncovered...

Done. I know this is late but I just got back from MD. Didn't go down to the inauguration but was just glad to be in the area! I babysat my 2 grandbabies so my daughter, sister and other family memebers could go.
They were caught in the "Purple Tunnel" and after leaving home at 4 AM, arriving at 4:30 AM, were trapped in the tunnel and turned back!!!
I don't know how people who got there (to the mall) at 7 AM got in AND back to their rooms or area homes by 5 PM. It took my family almost 3 hours to come from the metro in DC to Silver Spring! (SS is only about 5 miles from DC).
I loved watching it in the warmth and just feeling the excitement in the atmospere. I also watched all the balls until midnight! At least they got back in time to watch in real time on TV followed by lots of food and fun.
So happy for everyone who was able to attend, and even luckier to get in!
p.s. Can someone periodically post the site which lists all the addresses of the congress? Thanks.

Dear Mr. Obama,
I am a Palestinian Israeli. I feel bad for my Palestinian people in Gaza and what happened there. This war was pointless and increased the hate between the two people but then who am I to have a say on this.
When I first heard on the news that you were running for president I supported you although I am not an American. But I read so much about the Black American history and I found the resemblance between the struggle of your people for freedom and the struggle of my people in the West Bank. The fact that you were elected made me believe in America more.
I live in Israel. I believe in co-existence. My best friends are Jews and I still believe in peace. Although the previous president did his best in making America looks bad in the world. But I still believe that you will make a change and bring peace to the region.
It is true that you are only the president of the United States of America and you are committed to your people and to the promises you made for them. Yet you are now the strongest man in t he world you made a hope for all of us to believe that there will be a change for the better. I expect from you so much!
Congratulations!
I wish you good luck, success and making a real change (for the better) in the world.
Best

Sorry I did not reply immediately as I stepped away from the computer for awhile.
From where I was near the Monument I did not see any long lines for the porta toilets. I even heard some people saying there were too many of them.
It took over 2 hours to walk from the Mall to places that it would normally take 10-15 minutes.
However, people were patient and mostly well-behaved. All in all a wonderful experience.

The white dress Michelle wore for the dance was...AMAZINGLY BECOMING. Made her look like a young girl.
Loved the colour
Loved the fabric
Loved the 1 strap
She looked STUNNING.
But you know that everybody has a different taste.
I could eat her up though!

A National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation
Moments ago, in his first official act since taking the oath of office, President Barack Obama issued a proclamation, calling on Americans to serve one another and our common purpose on this National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation. Check it out below, or read it on the WhiteHouse.gov proclamations page.
NATIONAL DAY OF RENEWAL AND RECONCILIATION, 2009
- - - - - - -
BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
As I take the sacred oath of the highest office in the land, I am humbled by the responsibility placed upon my shoulders, renewed by the courage and decency of the American people, and fortified by my faith in an awesome God.
We are in the midst of a season of trial. Our Nation is being tested, and our people know great uncertainty. Yet the story of America is one of renewal in the face of adversity, reconciliation in a time of discord, and we know that there is a purpose for everything under heaven.
On this Inauguration Day, we are reminded that we are heirs to over two centuries of American democracy, and that this legacy is not simply a birthright -- it is a glorious burden. Now it falls to us to come together as a people to carry it forward once more.
So in the words of President Abraham Lincoln, let us remember that: "The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim January 20, 2009, a National Day of Renewal and Reconciliation, and call upon all of our citizens to serve one another and the common purpose of remaking this Nation for our new century.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

Exactly, Joe.
Flipped on Fox News for as long as I could stand it. In addition to criticizing our new secretary of the treasury, they are doing a post-mortem on Bush, reporting how the party flight back to Texas went.
Bush was asked during the flight for his "sense of the man" relating to our new president. Bush apparently said, paraphrased, that he admires President Obama, thinks he's a good family man, and a good man. Probably the only "sense" Bush has shown in eight years ...
OK, let's get on with taking back our country now.

I think if Cantor wants to crawl to the White House with the other Republicans, per President Obama's invitation, they should be allowed to do so.
Why?
They will all be sprinkled with Obama Dust, crawl back to Capitol Hill, and then our president can get on with leading our wonderful country.
Maybe they could meet him on his coffee break. That oughta take about 10 minutes.

Hey Suzanne,
The spin actually started on Saturday when MSM were saying the Inauguration cost $160 Mil, not so. By today I think they have it somewhere close to $2 mil, wrong again. They are including figures from regular every day expenses that are already there every day, like Secret Service Protection, Homeland Security, etc. These expenses are already allocated elsewhere and had nothing to do with Inauguration costs. If one wants to go back a put all these things into Bushes 2005 Inauguration it would add up to more.
MSM refuses to report the real news, like we now have a President Obama so they make up s _ _ _! That's all there is to it.

First off, the inauguration was privately funded, so really it cost nothing, if you are referring to the cost that tax payers would bear.
The Secret Service Protection Obama had no choice on, and just to clarify a misconception...all that security, and all that secret service was not just for Obama....Every single member of the US Senate and House of Representatives, every cabinet member was there, Obama, the VP, as well as almost all of our nations Governors....If there was a threat there it wouldn't be just a loss of our newly elected government, but of the whole United States Government...I don't think most people understand that...
On another note, you have 3 million people heading to DC from all across the country, then probably a few million residents celebrating.....say that is 6 million people...Think of the boost for the DC economy having those extra 3M people brought...food, housing, etc....
Another thing, the costs of these balls are irrelevent...the people attending paid $1000 or however much to go to them and that paid for the food/entertainment, etc...

Yeah, Beyonce's rendition of "At Last" was something. However, any of us "mature" people who ever heard and remember the original by Etta James wished we could have heard it even once.
Etta started her career in Chicago at about 13!! I think she was only 15 when she recorded "AT Last" and it was a hit! She really knew how to put the real 'feeling' into it! (I thought she was a grown woman until I was in my thirties! That's how powerful and mature her voice was).
p.s. I've owned several Etta James "Greatest Hits" type collections for years. Check HER version out. Beyonce's version was pretty; Etta's? RAW!!!!!!!!!!!!1 lol

First: Congratulations Mr President Obama.
I am writing from the Metropolitan France where I live (in family with my husband, who is french "white" of France, and me, I française "black woman" born in French Guiana, between Surinam and Brazil. We have a daughter Mélanie 12 and a half years and, who has as a small confidente at home since 3 years now, despite her allergies and asthma, a small pedigree dog "Jack Russell" her name is "Altesse"); and I work since for 13 years in Metropolitan France. And I loved always the USA, I was born on the continent of South America, but since yesterday, Tuesday 20 January 2009, after your investiture ; I like even more the U.S..
May God bless and protect you, and your wife and your two nice daughters, and also, the people of your country. May God help you to brave all the steps that wait you. Good courage and good luck.

Hi everyone & Happy New Year. Howard, I just want to say not only were you the best DNC Chairman we democrats ever had but you was also a champion for the grassroots along with your outstanding 50 state strategy idea.
Thank you for your years of leadership and service for the DNC and for the good of the country and i wish you all the best in the future.
And to the incoming chair of the DNC Tim Kaine, welcome aboard to the team sir and i wish you the best of luck in your new role as chairman of the DNC.

The Democratic Party is better due to Governor Dean. The 50-state strategy is working and I hope that it will be continued.
I appreciate the hard work of Governor Dean.
9MedinaDem on January 10, 2009 at 02:38 PM
The difference for us here in Montana under Howard Dean's leadership is that we've had 6 to 15 DNC full-time staffers in Montana during the last two election cycles and that has meant that tasks that previously had not been done were getting done, that we now have two Deocratic Senators from Montana, and that, with the great help of Obama team as well, we now have excellent voter lists going forward and a team of newly trained, and MUCH younger, volunteers in at least twenty towns in Montana.
...
Thank you, Howard Dean.

Everyone has said that this is an historic moment because we have elected the first black president. Everyone seems to forget it is not about his skin color but about how he will govern. His choices and associations have shown that he is not going to be a leader of transparency but of hidden agendas and bad choices. He picks a governor for Commerce Sec. that has to withdraw due to being investigated, his Treasury pick failed to pay taxes and had an illegle immigrant working for him, his past ties have shown that he has bad judgement. He is being treated like a god by some of you, you need t owake up and smell the coffee. He wants to close GITMO, where are those terrorists going to go? 70 recently released prisoners are back in terrorist cells plotting again. Do we really need this kind of judgement being taken? We as Americans need to question our elected officials no matter what party they belong to and hold them accountable and not just let them slide by. God bless America.

Example, Bubba did you know you paid $30,000 for a publicist days after Palin was elected Gov? She instructed him to "raise her national profile". (She already had her eyes and what mind she has on something bigger than AK).
Since it was for HER career you'd think she would have paid for it but I bet she didn't. You should be embarrassed to criticize Pres. Obama, especially on experience (we all know Sarah didn't even know how to be MAYOR; SHE HIRED A CITY MANAGER!). She is the one who was found guilty of abusing her power and violating the AK ethics code!!
Sounds like YOU need to first look in your own backyard "up there" before tearing down PEO.

Our first people that live in the remote villages were hurting and that money helped many of them to survive. That is not spreading the wealth it government doing what it is suppose to do in a time of crisis. Get the facts straight before you make a moronic comment.

I do research from various sources not just from liberal or conservative sources, I check official voting records and the such before I voice my oppinion, do you? Or do you just believe everything that is fed to you. Sen. Stevens did wrong and should pay for it if Gov. Palin does something that is not right then she should pay also. I don't hear anyone questioning Pres. Obama about things on here why is that? I am happy that as a country we have finally seemed to over come the racism that has permeated our society but to use that as the sole reason to accept every thing that he says at face value is sad, every leader needs to have his/her policies questioned by those who elected them.

Bubba you obviously know very little about this blog. Many of us have been here since the beginning of Obama's campaign. We represent a very diverse group of individuals. There have been specific areas that many disagree with President Obama on. We are his supporters though. We want his Presidency to be a successful one. If there is an area that you disagree with him on it's not likely to be posted here. Many now are submitting there suggestions and concerns on the official Presidential website. You haven't been around therefore you have no idea what "questions" we ask and what actions we have taken. Of course we check our facts which is the sole reason we voted for Obama vs McCain and the sole reason we didn't think Palin was qualified to be President. If you want people that are going to agree with your viewpoints I suggest you go to John McCain's website. We are like a family here.

Obama freezes salaries of some White House aides
1/21/09 By JENNIFER LOVEN, AP
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama announced on his first day in office Wednesday that he is freezing the pay of the about a hundred White House employees who make over $100,000 a year.
The freeze would hold salaries at their current levels. It is part of a presidential memorandum being issued Wednesday when Obama attends a swearing-in for staff at the White House.
In a statement, Obama said "families are tightening their belts, and so should Washington."
Aides making above $100,00 include the high-profile jobs of White House chief of staff, national security adviser and press secretary. Other aides who work in relative anonymity also fit into that cap, if Obama follows a structure similar to the one George W. Bush set up.
"They deserve a government that truly is of, and by, the American people," Obama said.
He also announced a change in policy that will require each federal agency and department to give full attention to Freedom of Information requests and said he expects members of his administration to be responsive to such pleas.
And Obama also revealed what he called a "clean break" from existing rules spelling out when and under what circumstances administration officials could work on issues on which they lobbied governmental agencies before.
He said there would be a two-year, rather than a one-year, waiting period for government officials to be able to work on such issues and said they would "not be able to work on matters you lobbied on or White House agencies you lobbied during the last two years."
"Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this administration," Obama said in a statement to reporters.
He said the orders he was issuing Wednesday do not go as far as he would like, but that they do go a long way toward "marking a new era" in America.
Vice President Joe Biden swore in several senior White House aides at Obama's announcement event.

Senate GOP to Delay Holder confirmation |

Senate Republicans hope to delay a vote on the confirmation of Eric Holder to become attorney general in order to pressure him to say whether he will prosecute intelligence agents for torture if they were following orders and acting within what they believed to be legal guidelines.
Holder told the Judiciary Committee last week that waterboarding is "torture" and therefore illegal. Susan J. Crawford, the top Bush administration official overseeing the trials of detainees, told the Washington Post that at least one individual held at the prison center at Guantanamo Bay was "tortured."

This is crazy. First Hillary, now Holder. No doubt Geitner's vote will be delayed. This is just madness. Either they don't want to vote for these people or they do. What is postponing DOING?

My impression from the title, "A Beginning and an End" was that this blog will indeed close and everything move to Whitehouse.gov. It wasn't clear and I am just waiting to see.

INTRODUCTION
The Office of Public Liaison & Intergovernmental Affairs (OPL-IGA) is the front door to the White House through which everyone can participate and inform the work of the President.
OPL-IGA takes the Administration out of Washington and into communities across America, stimulating honest dialogue and ensuring that America's citizens and their elected officials have a government that works effectively for them and with them.
OPL-IGA will bring new voices to the table, build relationships with constituents and seeks to embody the essence of the President's movement for change through the meaningful engagement of citizens and their elected officials by the federal government.
We'll be adding many more ways for you to interact with OPA-IGA at this page in the weeks and months ahead. In the meantime, please take a moment to share your thoughts using the form below.

for the past week, i've been asking hundreds of people in DC to choose a word to represent how they feel about the inauguration of barack obama. i then took their portrait with the word! the words included "Proud," "Hopeful," "Skeptical," and "Angry." No one chose angry, tho!! :)
the result is this great video/photo essay. it's really inspirational. the love for the obamas is so moving.

Bush left a large envelope on the desk for incoming President Obama. With a 44 sticker on top.
Any speculation as to what was inside?

I heard this custom was started with Reagan, the outgoing leaves a note for the incoming. Chuck Todd said it could even say something silly.

Today I'm happy because it's the first day in 8 years without Bush in the White House, but I'm also nervous about what's to come. Our new president has a big job ahead of him, and now everything's a bit uncertain. But I have a lot of faith in President Obama because I see how he truly cares about this nation and wants to make it better. The skies aren't clear yet, but soon we'll see some blue peeking through.

WOW! This doesn't sound good.
Lots of people lost lots of money. Will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
I'm sure MSM will find a way to blame the Dems. Only problem with that is most Dems are poor, not much money lost. Now the Republicans on the other hand are among the richest.
Anyway, should be interesting.

Nice touch but who where they? They can't leave us hanging like this......
President, first lady greet White House visitors
WASHINGTON – It was an emotional time for some White House visitors who got the chance to meet President Barack Obama.
Some people cried. Others became flustered. The president thanked people for coming to visit and told them enjoy themselves. He even joked that they should roam around — just be careful not to break anything.
The new president and first lady Michelle Obama shook hands with a line of guests in the Blue Room on Wednesday, just one day after he took office as the 44th president. The Obamas made small talk as a steady stream of guests passed through.
Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, also are having visitors to their official residence.

Little by little they're starting to come around.
AP Poll: People optimistic on Obama by 3-1 margin
WASHINGTON – A new poll shows that by a 3-1 margin, the American people feel more optimistic about the country's future now that Barack Obama has been inaugurated president.
The Associated Press-Knowledge Networks poll found that 53 percent of those surveyed said they felt more optimistic, while just 15 percent said his ascendancy to the White House made them feel more pessimistic.
The poll also showed that even among Republicans, just 29 percent of those surveyed felt more pessimistic with Obama at the White House — roughly the same number as the 30 percent of GOP people who said they felt more optimistic.
A smaller proportion of those who said they saw or heard his inaugural address — 51 percent — called it good.
The poll was conducted Tuesday and involved online interviews with 835 adults. It has a samling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

On top of that, it was at 8 in the morning when many are hustling to work/school, etc...
