Perhaps Joe Scarborough will give you his seat since he spent the earliest days of the campaign laughing at Sen. Obama for having the audacity to run for POTUS.

Party! Wish I was there.
BUT we are celebrating with live coverage of the inauguration at a local movie theater and then that night having our own ball!
It is wonderful to be able to share this with the community.

If this is the invitation you received keep reading:

Congratulation! You made the “official invitation” list! You and approximately 1,000,000 other Obama supporters have been officially invited to attend the inaugural. You are 1 in a million!
I got my
inauguration announcement
that invited me to the
"Free"
events. It is 8 1/2 by 11 on cream card stock with a gold raised inauguration seal. The invitation came with a letter explaining that it is a
"Commemorative Invitation"
.
This is a keepsake for those who will be attending and as well as something for those not attending.
But it is not a ticket to get into any particular event.
I loved getting mine. It will go into my scrap book. It would look good in a frame, so I might do that.
Oh well, I was just happy to get it.
Obama Order Makes Small Printers Day
View the story about the printing of the Commemorative Inaugural Invitation.
1 million "Commemorative" inaugural invitations were printed. They are invitations to come to the inauguration but not tickets to actual events. Everyone can come and attend all the free events.
But if you got one of these YOU ARE 1 IN A MILLION!

The Fisher House is a very noble non-profit organization!
Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House™ Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.
There is at least one Fisher House™ at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House™ program serves more than 10,000 families, and have made available nearly 2.5 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. By law, there is no charge for any family to stay at a Fisher House operated by the Department of Veterans Affairs; and Fisher House Foundation uses donations to reimburse the individual Fisher Houses operated by the Army, Navy, and Air Force. No family pays to stay at any Fisher House!

CR, The Fisher House sounds similar to the Ronald McDonald House at least in principle. I used to volunteer in the ICU/PCU units as a liaison between the families and the medical staff. The medical center was the major area for service to families who lived in smaller counties. There were countless people who had to stay overnight. Many times, wives, husbands, and children would stay until their family member was stabilized. I definitely appreciate what the Fisher House and the Ronald McDonald House are doing to help families.

I will say good-night to all at this point. Usually, I ask to pray for the Middle East, but I heard Sen. Kennedy read a part of the Coast Guard's Prayer which I thought was very appropriate:
"Bless the keepers of the lights and be Thou their close friend in lonely watches. Keep the beacons of honor and duty burning that they may reach the home port with duty well performed, in service to Thee and our land. AMEN."

Patriot...
I was hoping I got back before you went to bed! I am going to try to work with move-on.org to help PEO's plan. There are also people marching and picketing governmental offices downtown. I will probably not get to picket, but I can make my voice be known.Following is a message from move-on, Sleep well, Patriot.
Dear friend,
Thank you. Your name has been added to the petition and your comments will be delivered to your Senators and Representative.
In a few days, MoveOn members across the nation will deliver the petition signatures to the local offices of key undecided members of Congress, so every signature is crucial!
Spread the word to your friends and family so they know what's going on. You can just forward the sample letter below. Please only pass this message along to those who know you -- spam hurts our campaign.
Thanks for all you do.
--The MoveOn.org Political Action Team
Here's a sample message to send to your friends:
Subject: Obama's plan under attack
Hi,
The bad news: Unemployment has hit a 16-year high.
The good news: Obama just laid out a bold plan for how to get out of this economic crisis. He wants to invest in clean energy, green jobs, and health care.
But the most important parts of Obama's plan are already under attack by oil and health insurance lobbyists!
I signed a petition urging Congress to pass Obama's economic plan right away. Can you join me at the link below?

Thanks!

However, they are Red State GOPs so my E-mails probably were placed in File 13 (trash can). I remember an earlier post about MoveOn.org, but I just signed one petition, and did not sign up for alerts. This time, I signed the petition, and signed up for the E-mail Alerts. In essence, I have joined you at MoveOn.org. We are stronger and more noticeable in numbers. I will be on the blog for awhile. Dinora-
I am excited too as I will be leaving on the 14th to go to DC for 2 weeks to stay with my daughter. We will be attending the Inauguration and a Ball. She got me the ticket to the Ball for a Xmas gift, unfortunately I do not think it is one of the Balls Obama will be at, but it is exciting anyway.
We thought we would be 2 in 4 million on the Mall for the Inauguration, but a couple of days ago I got an email notification from my State Senator's office that I signed up for two tickets with that my name was drawn and I get two tickets to the Inauguration. I have to pick them up at the Senate building in DC with my photo ID on Monday the 19th. It also mentioned it would be most likely I'd sit on the grass or stand since the chairs were reserved.
I went and bought a small digital camera but after seeing this photo of the setup I think I will be too far back to get a close-up photo of Obama. I'll just have to say that speck is our President when I show others the photo. I am still elated that my name was drawn from thousands upon thousands.
For those who think the commemorative invitation is a ticket it is not. You needed to call your state senator and get your name on a list for tickets. I called mine around 6 weeks prior to Election Day. It was flooded with requests after the election results and instead of awarding them first come first serve they held a lottery style drawing. This is the first time I won in a lottery!!! Everyone is allowed to be on the National Mall for free. It just takes a ticket for the closer area.

1. STRONG HEART Good Morning
2. FIVE THIRTY EIGHT vote for the site here as the 2008 Weblog Best Political Coverage Award
Link
3. SPECIAL ELECTIONS 2009 here in New York and MANY other states - Obama brought the entire Dem ticket up.
But this means non-appointment vacancies requiring special elections and the challenge to get the electorate out to vote - again.
For instance, our town earned the deserved nickname "Crookhaven" for corrupted officials: finally we had convictions and threw the bums out.
A new supervisor came in, did a great job - and has since moved up to the State Senate -
The Old Regime has managed via the Town Board to sneak back in.
We need an Honest Public Servant to roust them out again and the Dem Candidate is from the DA's office who actually implemented the original criminal convictions.
All across the nation there's work still to be done to bring integrity - whatever their party affiliation - back into government.
Use your Obama meetings as a springboard to local agendas - we still serve "at the pleasure of the President"
Okay - I'll step down off the stump - thanks!

the Inauguration
That would include Robin Saunders and Jacques Wells of Jamaica Plain, who volunteered for Obama. The day after the election, they booked 50 rooms for fellow supporters at a Holiday Inn in Washington. At the time, the rooms were $140 a night. Two weeks later, the hotel called: The rooms were now $400 a night, with a four-night minimum. And they had to immediately put down a $9,000 deposit.
It was time for Plan B: "The Celebration Bus," a de-facto motel-on-wheels.
Saunders and Wells hired a bus for anyone interested that will leave Boston at midnight Jan. 19, arriving in Washington at 8 a.m. on Inauguration Day. Obama will be sworn in at 11:30 a.m., and a parade will follow. Late that night, the bus will depart, with a 6 a.m. arrival time back in Boston. In other words, two back-to-back "red eyes." The cost for each person is $129, which includes a buffet dinner en route home..

"On Inauguration Day, she's going to get up, put on her best suit, her fur, her panty hose, heels, and gloves, and she's going to sit in her living room and watch the inauguration," Harrell said. "Then she's going to take a nap. After dinner, she'll put on her long formal gown, her makeup and her jewelry, sit in her living room and watch the ball." The old woman told Harrell's sister she could join her -- provided she was properly attired.

and how excited are the kids about their new President
Kids from across the country and across the world will be there for the inauguration and all the festivities connected with it, including thirty 8th graders from the Mission Parish School in San Juan Capistrano, California.
The Mission Parish kids have been raising money all year in order to cover the cost of their cross-country journey.
8th grader Dominic Salazar says he made six batches of treats to sell at a bake sale.
Why does he want to go to the Obama inauguration?
"It's really an awesome, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he told the Orange County Register. "A little while ago, people (of different races) couldn't be in the same part of the bus. Now we have our first African-American president. And we're going to be there!"
After the inauguration, the Mission Parish kids plan to travel as a group to New York City, to see the historic sites there as well.
"I'm so excited," said 8th grader Rebecca Millard, in an interview with Register reporter Scott Martindale. "I've never even been out of (California)."

There continues to be many words written and spoken about the “need” to prosecute President Bush and members of his administration for various actions taken in the past eight years. While I don’t claim to be an expert, I know enough Constitutional and International Law to believe that while there were likely impeachable offenses, it is highly unlikely (near impossible) that criminal convictions could be attained.
To my friends, I suggest they channel their angry energies in a more positive manner and also consider that the scores of millions of dollars which would be spent in any such prosecution would be better invested in assisting those in real need of jobs, health care, education, and daily sustenance requirements.
So, say goodbye and, if it helps, good riddance, to the Bush administration. Let us always learn from the past, and move forward to meet the opportunities of today and the future.

I agree, Gene......
Maybe some day a special legal team can be put together to work on these issues, but........
Right now the economy and getting out of Iraq are first on my list. People are losing jobs by the minute, who knows where we are these days with foreclosures (they're not saying much these days) but I'm sure it's worse than ever, alternate energy & global issues, education and so many other things.
I agree any thing done immediately on the crimes of Bush Administration will cost too much money and frankly, we can't afford it. How would it look if Americans are being told they have to stay on a tight budget while the government continues to spend. I want this to happen some day (criminal trials) but not now.

PE Obama takes a snack break.......
Barack Obama dropped in Saturday afternoon for a bite to eat with Washington's mayor, Adrian Fenty, at Ben's Chili Bowl, the venerable diner in Washington's U Street district.
Obama said it was his first time visiting Ben's Chili Bowl and "it was terrific." The expectation is that Obama — already at ease in big cities from his time in Chicago — will venture into town more than President George W. Bush, who rarely made forays into unofficial Washington.
After Obama's motorcade wandered through the U street district, passing the African-American Civil War Memorial and a flea market selling shirts that bear his face, he and Fenty surprised the restaurant around lunchtime. Patrons shrieked with delight and surprise as they saw his face. A mother blushed as Obama held her baby in his arms. The president-elect and the mayor moved slowly through the restaurant's crowded rooms, shaking hands and getting pictures taken with patrons.
Still, they came there to eat. "Where the food at?" he finally asked the counter staff, drawing laughs from them and nearby patrons.
He and Fenty ordered a house specialty, a Chili Half-Smoke — a quarter-pound half pork and beef smoked sausage on a steamed bun with mustard, onions and chili sauce — along with a big helping of some cheese fries.
They found a small table. They had the popular food. They even chatted it up with nearby customers at their tables. But something was still missing: the shredded cheese. Obama yelled for some — "not the Velveeta" kind, he said — and it was quickly delivered.
Word must have gotten out he was in the area: After Obama and Fenty had their meal and left the building, dozens of people who had lined up before security barriers cheered him on as walked toward his motorcade.

Nobody above the law......... but I still say there are things that MUST be addressed first....
PE Obama not ruling out prosecution of Bush officials for crimes in office
…
WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday he was not ruling out possible prosecution for abuses committed under the George Bush administration, saying no one "is above the law".
"We're still evaluating how we're going to approach the whole issue of interrogations, detentions, and so forth," Obama said in an interview aired Sunday on ABC's This Week program when asked about alleged abuses under Bush.
"Obviously we're going to be looking at past practices and I don't believe that anybody is above the law," Obama said.
But Obama, who takes office on January 20, added that he wanted his administration to focus on tackling problems moving forward, rather than reviewing policies under his predecessor.
"My instinct is for us to focus on how do we make sure that moving forward we are doing the right thing," he said.
"That doesn't mean that if somebody has blatantly broken the law, that they are above the law. But my orientation's going to be to move forward."
Human rights and civil liberties groups have called for senior Bush administration officials to be prosecuted for a series of alleged abuses, from mishandling the conflict in Iraq to the illegal detention and torture of terrorist suspects and domestic spying.
In the interview, Obama criticized Vice President Dick Cheney for his public defense of "extraordinary" interrogation methods used against top terrorism suspects, including simulated drowning known as waterboarding.
"Vice President Cheney, I think, continues to defend what he calls extraordinary measures or procedures when it comes to interrogations and from my view waterboarding is torture," Obama said.
"I have said that under my administration we will not torture."
Obama declined to say whether he could appoint a special prosecutor to look into possible charges against Bush and his deputies, saying the issue whould be up to his attorney general.
"He is the people's lawyer," he said of the attorney general-designate, Eric Holder.
"So, ultimately, he's going to be making some calls, but my general belief is that when it comes to national security, what we have to focus on is getting things right in the future, as opposed looking at what we got wrong in the past."

Did I hear correctly in an interview with Mr. Obama Social Security/Medicare is part of that which is at risk with the new recovery plan?(.."Everyone has to give some skin", confirmed Mr. Obama, and social security/medicare was mentioned) I've already given too much skin; loosing my entire retirement to the wealthy and fraudulent.I hope Mr. Obama does not expect our most vulnerable citizens to "give more skin" in order to fix that which was broken by those who have already trampled on we middle class and poor. The only change to Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid should be to those who are not considered middle class (or poorer). I can see cutting out these benefits for those who really have no need for it. I would be seriously devastated if Mr. Obama goes back on his word where it affects the middle class, elderly, poor and sick; the most vulnerable citizens of our society. In Isaiah 10 we read: "Woe to those who issue unjust laws; to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights........making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless...what will you do on the day of reckoning.....". This is a strong point of view and statement coming from God; one which Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden have claimed to uphold. Not for religion's sake (though that personal motive is fine), but because it is the right thing to do. It's why I parted company with the Republicans this year. I hope we don't see more of the same empty promises and trampling on the needy from this administration. There is no justification for it so please don't offer any. It's time for those who "have" to now sacrifice. Those who "have not" already lost their skin.Mr. Obama has said this as well. I hope he meant it. My dad is 94 and has lost his entire savings to Alzheimer's Disease care and most of his pension to fraud by those who controlled it. He lives on social security, meager pension and watches every penny.I pay for what he can't. He one of the lucky ones. Mr. Obama, please stand by your word and protect the elderly, poor, and our middle class. Creating new jobs is part of that, but please don't do that at the expense of the vulnerable elderly, even for the long term good.I hope your word is good on this.

This is a program that will be modified to correct the problem. He is not taking away Medicare. Listen better.

I thought the mention of evaluating Social Security referred to a review of the current practice of awarding SSI disability payments. Bill Clinton's reform of the welfare system away from being a permanent condition resulted in a flood of persons into SSI disability. If Barack intends to end that abuse, I would support it.

I agree with you, but this is a little tougher with this economy......In the last 1990's when we had a huge economic boom, developmentally disabled (autistic, etc..) people were all able to get jobs as companies needed people....
Now the economy is so bad I just don't know if someone who was on SSI for the last 5 years will be able to get a job...
What they should probably do is just raise the earned income tax credit for these people....so that way if they once were able to work better paying jobs but because of their disability they can only get a job making $7.50/hr....then the government will essentially subsidize it with an earned income tax credit to make it as if they are making $11.00 an hour....once they start making more it gets phased out...that is the only real solution....
I also don't know how much SSI is localized as far as how it is funded...I hear in some cities they make it easier to get, in some cities they make it harder to get....that makes me think a lot of it is funded at the state or local level...so hard to figure out the federal role with this....
There is an abuse of a lot of things, we need lots of reforms...I just don't know how clear cut you can make a solution to SSI....If there are a group of people you are not sure if they should get it, know 1/3rd of them really do need it, other 2/3rds don't..do you then drop them all if you can't discriminate and drop these people that need it along with the others...
You mention the Welfare system...85% of the people that were on welfare before Clinton did Welfare Reform....85% of these people when you looked 3-4 years later were working...part of that was the economy...
Remember also with these SSI people these welfare-like payments they get are only a small part of the government money...the other half are the medical payments the government foots the bill for and will continue if they are low wage workers or not working....

Dee-many of us understand your difficulties, but if you listen to the Obama video on previous blog(radio address) and read the a.r.r.p., he's addressing healthcare.
Jobs, healthcare, education, energy... was all included in his plans.
Obama even spoke specifically to help states with healthcare because of those not having jobs being put into the situation of having none. Not good for the states or individuals when that happens.
Jobs are being discussed more so this week because of the job reports again as well. best wishes to you.

What's strange is the head of the social security agency (commissioner of the social security administration) which is a cabinet level position...this person hasn't been picked..that's really the only cabinet or cabinet level position that hasn't been picked except head of drug control agency....and of course Richardsons replacement as commerce secretary..

it's frustrating both sides are knocking it already, a good debate is healthy but I get a sick feeling when they just want to bicker and argue! Too big, too small, too this too that, enough already!
PE Obama has the clout, US, and he has a great grasp at understanding how fed up we are of nothing getting done, hopefully the new congress will share that attitude with PE Obama.

And what's even more baffling is PE Obama is even addressing wasteful spending now and long term to keep the deficit to minimal for the long term, which is really good imho, especially for the magnitude of the economic crisis, PE Obama is still trying to use and apply common sense about irresponsible wasteful spending. Congress gripes but they'll be the first to want to dump earmarks and pork on his plan, that's my gut feeling anyway.

The joke of the day......
Men Vs. Women Jokes :: #16405
By Laura Harrison from USA.
A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
"House" for instance, is feminine: "la casa."
"Pencil," however, is masculine: "el lapiz."
A student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?"
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether "computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun.
Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computadora") because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be masculine ("el computador") because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves.
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time, they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won.
ANOTHER CRACK IN THE GLASS FOR THE GIRLS!!!!

☮ CR ❤
Jan 11th 2009 at 10:40 am EST (Updated Jan 11th 2009 at 10:40 am EST)
NPR Weekend Edition Sunday, 1/11/09
NPR's Senior European Correspondent Sylvia Poggioli about her three-part series on minorities and racism in Europe, which airs on Morning Edition this week.
Most Europeans were thrilled when Democrat Barack Obama was elected president of the United States because he promised to sweep away policies that Europeans found odious. But more than that, he represented hope, renewal and proof that the barriers of age, class and race can be transcended, it is given minorities a new sense of pride and empowerment.
But Obama's victory also prompted soul-searching in Europe: Could his success be replicated there? Could a person of color ever become the leader of Germany? Italy? France?
Part 1: In Germany, there are half a million people of African descent and 3 million people of Turkish descent. Many of them say they are treated like foreigners or ignored, even though their families may have lived in Germany for generations. There is no national debate on racism. To paraphrase one Afro-German: White Germans do not perceive themselves as racist. They act as if there are no other races in Germany. They perceive Germany as a monoracial country and conclude "we can't be racist."
Part 2: In Italy, immigrants make up about 7 percent of the population. But suspicion toward immigrants is pervasive and reflected in some of the West's most restrictive citizenship laws. Not far from Naples, 6,000 to 8,000 black people live in a town now referred to as "Little Africa." Most survive, barely, in a gray economy controlled by the local Mafia. To the north, in a town called Citadella, "The Citadel," ordinances are so restrictive that most immigrants could never afford to live there. "Yes, we're raising the drawbridge," the mayor concedes.
Part 3: The constitution of France enshrines the notion of egalitarianism. France was once a haven for black Americans, such as writers Richard Wright and James Baldwin. France's colonies were represented in the French assembly. "Negritude," a black pride movement spearheaded by the Senegalese poet and statesman Leopold Senghor, was once embraced as part of French cultural identity. But French society turned "white" again, one scholar observes, when the colonies sought independence in the 1960s. Today, millions of immigrants from Africa live in banlieue, large, rundown housing projects outside the big cities. Unemployment is high. Hope is low.

I lived in Germany in the 80s. It was ok for me. But, I'm American (by default ... Virgin Islands). We got better treatment. The Turks and Africans always talked about discrimination. North africans, not so much. Plus, the women from there are blow your mind, is she real, gorgeous. Beauty always helps, I guess.
The French hates everyone equally. They barely like themselves. But, once you get past their initial knee jerk pettiness, they're cool. I find their, so called, arrogance attractive. I have friends there. They say discrimination appears in pockets.
Italy is a weird one. It's technically a hybrid society, just like Puerto Ricans. I know italians that are dark as hell (olive ... beautiful) If you go down south, you would be surprised. Their history consist of many races. I always find it funny when I see racism in those areas. I'm like, yo, you might have a great, great grandfather that was black. You could produce a black baby without mating with one of us. Stop it.
I hope this election sends a message. The whole thing is silly. Judge people by their character, except the French ; )

My problem isn't so much with people expressing concerns for immigration reforms or reforms to be more friendly to immigrants and create more paths to immigration; It's with people that approach it from an ideological perspective.
Sure, we really can't start a policy of open borders and let anyone who comes here to become a citizen..But with a nursing shortage, why create barriers to competent nurses from countries like the Philipines. Why send our top Ph.D students in computer science who we spent $500,000 educating back home making it harder for them to apply their skills to take our technology industry into the 21st century. Why make people coming from other countries that invest here, creating businesses and jobs have to do so wondering whether they can be here permanently. Why turn down researchers and educators in needed areas that come from across the globe.
This is really my problem.

Dave, I want to address your questions from a political standpoint. What is in it for America? The issue of nurses from foreign countries reminds me of the same issue when foreign doctors came to this country in the past. The history was to allow them to only practice in hospitals, regardless. The issue is with the quality of medical training that they have received in other countries. If foreign nurses are competent, I say allow them to pass a state board exam with an internship. I am not certain how the hospitals are doing it now. If qualified, issue a license, but require a certain number of years of service in the US, and require a path to citizenship. PhDs that are educated by the US in any of the sciences should be retained, placed on a track to citizenship, and required to spend a number of years working in this country for repayment. Foreign businesses should be taxed heavily to operate in this country with regulations. Remember, America has to get something out of it. The local foreign owned convenience stores that operate in the US should be required to buy only American made products. Thus, increasing US manufacture. Again, it has to be about America. These views are in my opinion. Perhaps, you will see it differently. My mind will be on keeping America strong. For too long, we have been the country where one can migrate, and get rich. It's not that easy because this country was paid for with the blood of so many people. It's interests must preclude those of others wanting to use it for their own gains.

CR, this was good reading and listening. I agree with Silvia (commentator) that there will not be an Obama-like President in Europe anytime soon if ever. The Europeans appear to be more in the pre-Civil Rights period of US history. The Germans surprised me the most in feeling that they are a society which does not view race. My gosh, we are talking about the country of Hitler and genocide. The Nazi descendants are still there. When I visited Germany decades ago, the only people of African descent that I saw were in the US Military. Europe has a long way to go. This is one area where I don't mind the US taking the lead in the world. Actually, I think that it should. However, Europe will have to change its beliefs. The US believes in E. pluribus unum = From many...one. We have become one people even though we descend from different parts of the world. I don't see Europe acknowledging that except to say that if you don't have certain features or look a certain way (phenotype) then you shouldn't be here. I wish them success because it will take change for them to view everyone as equals.

I actually think the rest of the world (up until November 4th) was way ahead of us....
Many of the major industrial countries, and many others have had women President's. We haven't...
But now we are the first to have a President of African decent, and I guess Muslim descent...
I hope we can get to the point where we don't have to get people to be against discrimination of one group, or another group but get people to see that discrimination in general is not productive in a country moving forward.
That is why our founders had freedom of religion as that is one of the few things people will kill each other over..
We need to have the climate where people see if they are discriminating against you today, they will of me tomorrow...

10 days son!! Time to change the world, really. It's 2008, the 21st century. Other than communication technology, it still looks like 1987. I look back at the 20th century and say, what the hell was that, especially the last 50 years of it.
It wasn't all bad. I just wish the good outweighed the bad. It was about 35% good, 65% bad. The good that came out of it usually involved riots and protests, figures. The things we have to do in order to breathe. We'll figure it out eventually.
Anyway, here is an interesting article I found on Human violence. I can't, for the life of me, understand why people inflict pain on each other, especially when they know what pain feels like. I'm not just talking about murder or torture either. I consider verbal and mental abuse to be within the same genre. Although, it's a lower form of pain in comparison to torture or murder. Regardless, it provides the same humiliation.
Ok, I'll shut up. It's not like I'm a pacifist or a saint.
Here is the article:

One more thing. Does anyone know how many years exist of recorded human history? I was just on the right wing site blogsforvictory.com. They are extremely out of touch, except for the liberals that refute their asinine arguments. They said 6000. I thought it was 10,000 or more (Note: recorded).

I have to agree there is a paperwork problem with health care. Another possibility along with all the others is to have all people have a smart card that have their health information on it. Have a standard format that is updated each time the person uses health care of some type. Have different directories on the card with PIN numbers which gives the individual the ability to limit access to only select files.
In addition, impose severe penalties for copying and storage of data from the card by anyone that: 1. Is not authorized by the individual to do so, 2. Is not designation as a privacy secure site.
I am into distributed every thing because eggs in any one basket are subject to more risk. In addition, huge information management system can become unmanageable. Huge software programs can be a maintenance headache and a nightmare to upgrade. Plus something better may come along and people will be reluctant to change if billions have be invested into the system. Y2K is an example if longer term is not considered.
I call medical smart cards portable and individual controlled health care.
Flash drives are available in Gigs.

With this repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the highest earners. She cannot make the argument sound good.
She's fumbling through her answer with Wolf Blizter. Why is she talking about cutting those taxes without seeming to have a plan as to how and when she'll do it? Why doesn't she say what Obama has been saying, which is that he intends to roll the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest back - whether it's now or 2010 is to be determined? She wants to do it, but knows she cannot do it right now, so why doesn't she just sit tight and wait for the right moment. Why muddy up the waters when she's trying to get the Recovery and Reinvestment Package passed, with talk of "raising taxes" which is how the MSM and Republicans couch the argument of repealing the Bush tax cuts?
Democrats have good ideas but aren't the best politicians.

I agree Kimberly, Although I like and respect Pelosi views much more then Harry Reid. They both can potentially become road blocks. We see it all the time even in the American work place. People in power does not automatically equate to intelligent decision making. It just means they were lucky enough of smart enough to get to be the boss. Does NOT mean they have a single clue on what to do.
Take all the promises Pelosi and Reid made to get the jobs they have, i.e., Ending the War etc. True they were up against Republicans but if they truly knew how and where good at their jobs. They would have been able to bring some Republicans over on some of their issues. So now that Obama has good ideas they plan to make their voices heard even if it means going against Obama. That’s all part of them keeping their own jobs and getting reelected. You see that’s ALL they know how to do is get re-elected once in = CLUELESS.

In Obama, many see an end to the baby boomer era |

When George W. Bush lifts off in his helicopter on Inauguration Day, leaving Washington to make way for Barack Obama, he may not be the only thing disappearing into the horizon.
To a number of social analysts, historians, bloggers and ordinary Americans, Jan. 20 will symbolize the passing of an entire generation: the baby boomer years.
Generational change. A passing of the torch. The terms have been thrown around with frequency as the moment nears for Obama to take the oath of office. And yet the reference is not to Obama's relatively young age — at 47, he's only tied for fifth place on the youngest presidents list with Grover Cleveland.
Rather, it's a sense that a cultural era is ending, one dominated by the boomers, many of whom came of age in the '60s and experienced the bitter divisions caused by the Vietnam War and the protests against it, the civil rights struggle, social change, sexual freedoms, and more.
Those experiences, the theory goes, led boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, to become deeply motivated by ideology and mired in decades-old conflicts. And Obama? He's an example of a new pragmatism: idealistic but realistic, post-partisan, unthreatened by dissent, eager and able to come up with new ways to solve problems

Kim - Your posts today are so interesting, as usual.
As one of the original baby boomers (c. 1946), I willingly turn over the leadership of our country to Barack Obama! Although he's technically a baby boomer himself (the era is '46-'64), he really will build a generational bridge to our younger Americans.
I'm reminded of one of my favorite poems (The Bridge Builder) and will share to remind everyone of the how far the Baby Boomer generation took our country - they really did. I see Barack as "the youth" in the poem, and I wish him total success going forward.

What a beautiful poem, Jaqueline, I too was born in '46 and am cheering Obama onward. It is time for a new approach.
Not all of us liked the old ways. Greed and easy credit with living beyond our means became too big of a thing in our era, but on the other side there were many positive contributions made.
Many of us will be helping to bring about the new era and participating in it with joy. I view things more in a continuum basis or a journey instead of in divided categories or eras anyway. Even if some are thinking in the vein of eras I am thinking of it as a journey we are all on regardless of age, gender, race, wealth, education level, and such we are all participants.

That makes Obama 3rd..3rd youngest President to be elected...
1) Kennedy (43)
2) Ulysses S. Grant (46)
3) Barack Obama (47)

I like the bailout plan and all...but the of all of FDR's policies after the great depression, the ones that worked most effectively were ones to get the financial mechanisms working again....
That is the same here....great you are building roads and then these workers with the money can buy stuff from these businesses...this is great and all..the problem is that these businesses, even the ones with perfect credit can't get short term credit.....even corporations with perfect credit no one will loan too....
The focus needs to be on getting the banks to lend at least to those with good credit instead of hoarding the funds...that will do much more..Bush lent the banks money to do that and they hoarded it...he needs to figure something out with this as this is the main area...

Pardon me, but I STILL don't get that 17%. Bush's absolute and total dismantling of the nation's treasury is unequivocal. Billions upon billions lost and unaccounted for in Iraq alone. More billions handed off to companies with their own self-interest at heart, e.g., Halliburton. Billions lost in mismanaged government agencies. Who in their right mind would want Bush to waste even more money in his last week in office? INSANE.

Well, not having direct knowledge about one's motives, you could assume that some of the 17% didn't vote "for" Bush as much as they voted "against" Obama on the issue. There will be some who do not like and won't accept anything relative to PEO just because. It isn't logical or practical but it's some people's reality.

you know, if i didn't know a couple of republicans fairly well, i'd say the same thing...but...what it appears happens is that they come from such dysfunctional families that they can't begin to say they were wrong without feeling like they themselves are "wrong" and defective. and one of the main predictors of one's political affiliation is their parents' affiliation.
of course if we get health care for everyone, then the republican party will effectively be lost, and eventually fall into obscurity, just as the tories and the whigs and a number of other parties.

Anyone turn On CNN Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer this AM?
Unfortunately, his first guest was VP Dick Cheney.
What kept me watching for a few minutes was the Question from Wolf about the US Economy and what the VP thought about the "U.S. financial meltdown"?
The first thing Cheney does is make reference to all the problems resulting from 911, then he goes on to blame Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae for being quasi-government-run, which to his way of thinking caused all the problems.
MAIN BLAME is that there was vast corruption and outright gambling within Wall Street banking at the root of the problem.
Default Credit Swaps, hedge funds, packaged mortgages sold worldwide, etc.
Federal bailout of American International Group for $85 billion.(AIG) Because it insured backing for those crappy unregulated "Credit default swaps", among other garbage...Deemed by administration's Sec of the Treasury Paulson as TOO BIG TO FAIL!!! Why wasn't it regulated????
Cheney said that the he Bush administration pushed for significantly increased regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in 2003, after two years, the regulations passed the House but died in the Senate.
During those years, the REPUBLICANS were in total charge of the Congress AND the Presidency.
If they couldn't get any reforms passed through Congress then, how come all you hear is them blaming Barney Frank and Sen. Dowd during these past two years (when Dems did not have enough of a majority to get any difficult bill passed) for the failures of those two mortgage lenders?
Democrats, Independents, and all other honest-thinking Americans CANNOT let the true facts of the Financial Meltdown be swept under the rug...
Even in the rating Corporations, there was outright FRAUD.
(Check out this PBS Special ...)
Economists Explain Why Hints of the Economic Crisis Eluded Them
Nobel laureate Joe Stiglitz.
JOSEPH STIGLITZ, Columbia University:
People wanted to believe that markets were self-regulating.
... you couldn't have a bubble, because if there was a bubble, you needed to have somebody do something about it.
And so this ideology which rose, the notion that there would be that government always got in the way, that regulation was bad, was a central piece in the ability of both the profession and politics to look the other way.

Sacre Bleu! Le Monde Publishes Never-Before-Seen 1996 Interview With Obamas About Their Marriage |

Jan 11th 2009 at 2:03 pm EST (Updated Jan 11th 2009 at 2:03 pm EST)
1 /10/09 reprint of 1995 Le Monde newspaper article (English version).
"Ma priorité est de ramener les valeurs publiques ou collectives au centre du débat," said President-elect Barack Obama in an interview running in today's Le Monde newspaper.
Mr. Obama was not speaking in French; his words had been translated.
And in fact he hadn't uttered them in more than 12 years.
The French newspaper Le Monde on Saturday took the Obama team by surprise by publishing an interview with Barack and Michelle Obama from 1996 in which the two spoke at length about their marriage, only four years after they were wed, and two years before their oldest daughter Malia was born.
Many themes will not surprise those who know or follow the Obamas.
Sitting down to talk about their future the same year Obama eventually ended up running for state senate (and winning), his wife Michelle in the interview expresses reservations about whether a life in politics is what they want.
And while her husband is less uncertain of his calling, he wonders aloud about his ability to maintain a balance between private and public life. He also sounds out some notes about restoring civility in discourse to public life and the notion that we're all in this together, themes that have stayed with him throughout his career up through this week.
The interview, entitled "An Intimate Conversation with Michelle and Barack Obama," was conducted for a book about American marriages and was never published before today. The story was noticed in Le Monde by Tom McCarthy at the ABC News desk and translated from the French by Maeva Bambuck and Jean Fievet in ABC News' London bureau. (When assessing the precise accuracy of the quotes below, keep in mind they have now been translated from English to French to English.)
"If You Look Deep Into Her Eyes, There's a Certain Vulnerability"
President-elect Obama, who turned 35 that year, describes growing up with a single mother and absent father, and says, "I think that in a certain way, I’ve tried all my life to fabricate a family through stories, memories, friends or ideas. Michelle’s family life was different, very stable with two parents, a stay-at-home mom, a brother, a dog, that kind of thing. They’ve lived in the same house all their lives.

Arlene I did roll the ObamaCart here in Boston, but the whole event was based on a Yankee Trade that Bill and I had between my Obama Bookmarks and his Obama Wheel Sign and I told him to roll it across country to me....and then he said OK and together we organized his trip from Divide Montana to Unity NH and a friend of mine underwrote the expenses, etc. It was a blast. We did raise money, but most importantly we sought and received publicity throughout small communities in 15 States during the DNC week!
Not quite a cadilac but a "push-cart"!

At each "comm' ça" (short for "comme cela" = "like this"), people do the the bow or the curtsy. You can train for the Inauguration balls, lol. Due to this song, the Avignon bridge (old and almost destroyed) is famous in France.

PE Obama must investigate the abuses of power by the Bush government. I hope he does not allow them to get away with the astonishing amount of corruption that has happened.
It is important to restore trust in government and to do that he needs to start the process of investigating all the crimes that have been committed by this government. The truth needs to come out so that the last 8 years can never ever happen again.
Justice needs to happen for all those people whose lives have been ruined by this government. Where has all the tax payers money gone?
If PE Obama does not do this he will allow another Bush in power.

Absolutely correct. To say that we need to look forward rather than backward would be laughed out of any court of law. Crimes WERE committed--against the citizens of the United States and against innocent foreigners. They must be dealt with. I'll try to remember that line the next time I am stopped for speeding. "Oh, officer, let's look to the future. PE Obama says we should not look at the past."
Oh wait a minute. I forgot. I am merely an ordinary citizen and not a highly placed pol.
It also begs the question about whether or not this self proclaimed "competent" government we elected is capable of walking and chewing gum.

Asked by People magazine what moments from the last eight years he revisited most often, W. talked passionately about the pitch he threw out at the World Series in 2001: "I never felt that anxious any other time during my presidency, curiously enough."
Does this man have any shame? I can't believe GWB would cite a baseball pitch as one of his most "revisited" moments. How pathetic is that?

He never passes an opportunity to disappoint, does he?
I wonder if he realizes how poor his ratings are and how many want him impeached and indicted?
It seems he has no clue. I bet they don't tell him these things.

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President George W. Bush said he likes his successor Barack Obama, praising him as "engaging" in an interview broadcast Sunday.

Vote fools vote. I want this one to win. The design doesn't share Obama's bipartisan agenda but screw the political correctness.

President Elect Obama will be representing many many minorities on January 20th when he takes the oath of office. He will be representing their hopes and dreams that they too can overcome the obstacles that have kept a man of colour from holding this office for decades. It truly is a dream come true for millions of people in North America and worldwide. Thank God almighty we are free at last!!

Apropos to nothing - and due to a family illness (sigh....), we cannot attend the inauguration after all and have a fully paid king suite at Westin Arlington Gateway that we need to sell and transfer to someone else's name. We have received direct authority from the hotel to do so since the room was paid up front.
So - anyone know of someone who still needs accomodations? It's a king suite, 689 sq feet, two 36 in flat panel televisions, work area w/desk, separate room w/sofa (can accomodate rollaways, too), and best of all, this hotel is right on a METRO ORANGE LINE STOP WITH DIRECT SERVICE TO NATIONAL MALL!! Pass it on; we have posted elsewhere but thought I would give this community a try since everyone worked so hard and for so long for Barack and Joe (I know we did!). I have travelled all the way from London England to Chicago 3 days before Election Day; I did some phone banking at the Headquarters and on the 4th, until midday my friend and I were still without ticket for the evening at Grant Park. But our AUDACITY OF HOPE was so great that we met with Michelle Obama's best friend who happened to have two spare tickets. I thought, well, I saw history in the making and was part of it but something is tempting me to flight to Washington DC to be at the inauguration...I really don't know if I can resist that temptation.
Yes we can

What is wrong with creating 7.6 million part-time jobs in a 12 month period paying 25K-30K per person after taxes? Could someone please tell me the problem with implementing such an idea? We need to give people part-time and fulltime employment to stimulate the economy at the same time. Is this not, one of the ideas that we have been looking for. What is the problem? If there is a problem, let us make the neccessary adjustments to solitify its' implementation. This is not about me, it is about we. This idea is not for sale it is for usage.

Dear Barack Obama,
I am a 34 year old american citizen living in the Bay Area California who is gravely concerned over the US' blind support of israel and our continued funding of their activities.
To put it simply, if the US does not allow me to choose where my taxes are spent - I will refuse to pay them.
You campaigned with a slogan of Change and it is clear from your cabinet appointments and your position in which you agree to continue to behold the US and our money to the AIPAC interest, that change is doubtful.
If you so vehemently support israel - then to be balanced - I urge you to support the palistinians with just as much financial aide.
I do not actually care about the issues there from a religious or cultural standpoint, I am just utterly tired of the lies and violence that come from our (US) government and that region, respectively.
So, until there is REAL change in the US foreign policy, I hereby conscientiously object to any taxes made by this, usurped american government.
I support the change efforts you may make, but as a politician your words mean nothing, only action matters at this time.
Please act before others start acting for you.
Bush has handed you a country that is in tatters and done everyhting in his power to set you up for failure, but you have assisted in this planning for failure by appointing the Fed leaders to key economic positions and appointing hillary clinton to secretary of state whereby all of her past action have been self serving.
I have little faith in you succeeding - and I hope for the sake of us all that you can prove me wrong.
This country has been stolen - and I fear youre just another distraction from the theft of the US by israel and the IMC.
Good luck - youll need it.
