This has been an incredible journey so far. Along the way, we've heard from countless supporters who had never donated to a campaign before now, and inspiring stories of people who have challenged themselves to donate, to organize, to canvass and call to help build this movement.
We heard from people like Rashed, a 28-year-old IT help desk specialist from Long Beach, California who was our 75,000th donor:
This is the first time I’ve given to any type of campaign. I studied political science in school, but its really rare when someone comes along like this—someone who’s intelligent, ethical, and persuasive all rolled up into one.
... Being an African American male, to have that positive role model in Senator Obama, it’s given me so much hope. To be able to look at my daughter one day and tell her, ‘You can be anything you want in the world’… In the past I might have said, ‘You could be anything you want to be. But president? No’… But now, he’s given me that light. Now, I can tell her, ‘You really can be anything you want in the world.’
And we've heard from people like Zachary, our one millionth donor:
This campaign showed me that you can run a campaign in a completely different way than campaigns are traditionally run. Small donations matter. People can really get together, get organized, and get it done.
This campaign is about building a different kind of politics, funded not by Washington lobbyists and special-interest political action committees, but by people like Rashed, people like Zachary, and people like you. Together, we have already accomplished extraordinary things. And we're not done yet.
