Barack held another in a series of Town Hall meetings today, this time in Hickory, North Carolina. Over 2500 people turned out at the David W. Craft High School gymnasium.
Conrad Sullivan, who was recently laid off from Jevic Transportation in Concord, North Carolina, introduced Barack to the crowd. Conrad will have to go without health insurance until he finds a new job, which will likely pay half of what he was making before. He believes high gas prices and the decline of domestic manufacturing caused Jevic to close down its Concord trucking operation.

For over a year now Barack has been traveling across America, reaching out to voters at rallies, town hall meetings and informal events. Behind the scenes, a network of grassroots volunteers have worked tirelessly to make these events happen, and to grow this movement one community at a time. This summer we are looking for students and recent graduates who want to be a part of a new generation of organizers, to continue to carry out grassroots activities across the country — the Obama Organizing Fellows.
Program participation will start on June 5 and run through the end of the summer. Applications are due by Monday, May 5th at midnight eastern time.

What the Democrats have forgotten is that-- They don't realize they have to re-argue again the first principles of what makes them who they are...If they say health care should be a right they need to dig down into the roots of that argument to support it...like the Mayflower compact, the social movements...But the Democratss have assumed, too much, that people agree with them on philosophy. Go back and look what people were saying in the progressive movement about the outrages of disparity of income...buccaneers of industry taking too much for themslves, and so on.
