Today we entered the final stretch of our Pennsylvania Get Out The Vote campaign, with thousands of volunteers going door to door on the ground and countless supporters from all across the country making phone calls to Pennsylvania. All weekend long we've heard from ordinary people who are no longer content to watch from the sidelines, and have instead taken it upon themselves to organize, to canvass, to call and to work for change.
Last night one of these people, Robinann from NJ, wrote about "The Fierce Urgency of Tomorrow":
O.K., so I have my own business and usually work 7 days, do what I can for the campaign by writing and e-mailing in between work. I am a very bad phone person, even hang up on my relatives before they're done talking. But I have felt all week, what Barack calls that "Fierce Urgency" to get to PA. So, I called in a bunch of favors and actually got the afternoon off tomorrow; a friend and I are going to Milford, PA, which is about 25 miles north east of where I live, to GOTV for Barack. … This Jersey Girl is coming west and taking no prisoners!! I've got Bruce in my back pocket, U2 on the CD player and President Obama on my mind! Yes We Can!
Even if you can't get to Pennsylvania, you can still help out Robinann and the rest of our supporters on the ground by making calls from home.
As Kasha for Obama (formerly Kathy from NJ) "with fingers numb from dialing the phone," explained yesterday:
So many people are freaking out about polls.Stop and take a breath.… If you really want to make a difference, please make calls Monday and Tuesday.… For the first time in my life (I am 53) I am determined that this time I will not sit on the sidelines of an election and hope things work out the way I want them to work out. I am taking action. You can too.
Our GOTV calling campaign runs until 9:00 PM EST tonight. You know what to do.
