Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, but it seems awfully convenient that she just hit $3 million before midnight. I wonder how much of that is money that will either be unavailable for the primary, or money she'll have to return for overdonation.

I looked at the web page source code (right click and select "View Source") earlier today when the time counter was still running. The time counter is some sort of flash script that runs on its own, probably tied to your own PC's clock.

The money counter is a fixed JPG file that apparently gets re-created periodically, but not too often. Maybe only a couple of times each day. It might even be some sort of manual process.

The money counter that used to be on the Obama website had a visible date/time stamp and it was obviously updated automatically every couple of minutes.

Hello all. I'm usually up to date with all info about the campaign, but lately, I've been reading claims that our candidate is "padding his resume." The first one I saw was HRC claiming he wasn't really a professor, but the UoC quickly debunked that. But now I'm seeing this:

"Last week, St. Barack Obama called for passage of legislation that "I put forward with my colleague Chris Dodd" to help homeowners threatened by foreclosure. The Washington Post says Obama's co-authorship of the bill came as news to Sen. Dodd."

Is this accurate or spin? I need to know how to answer this when I'm on the blogs.

I also heard on AOL news that Barack was getting money from the oil Co's according to the Hillary camp. I also heard thats not true. He gets money from individual doners who WORK for the oil Co's.

Yeah, I've seen those silly "reports" too. Everyone has to report their company name when donating, but that doesn't mean the company itself is giving the money.

Actually, Obama was not a professor and, until recently, his resume showed that quite clearly. He was a lecturer. There is hardly any shame in that, esp. at University of Chicago, but it is a different rank. He just got carried away -- almost exactly like Clinton. Frankly, he should be honest about it for multiple reasons. Not only does he open himself to charges of resume-padding (which, unfortunately, is exactly what he started doing), but, as an academic, I know a lot of other lecturers and it is insulting to them to pretend that being a lecturer, rather than a professor, must be hidden. A lot of academics are Obama supporters and he was foolish to diss them. More cockiness -- he's really got to get over that.

Not this time buddy! I am a college professor for many years and know that in this country we refer to college instructors, adjuncts and lecturers as professors. You do not have to have tenure to be called professor. Moreover, the people at the University of Chicago who knows what he did there confirmed that he was referred to as professor.

Sorry if you looking for something you have got to find something else because this won't work.

And except when a university is being disingenuous and overtly political, which the University of Chicago was, universities certainly do make a distinction in many ways between lecturers and professors. All academics know that one *never, never* writes one was a professor on a resume when one was a lecturer -- any more than a physician's assistant indicates she was a physician on her resume. Students, like most of you, generally don't understand that distinction, and refer to anyone who teaches as "professor" -- in much the same way people refer to physician's assistants as "doctor." There is no problem with that, but I've no doubt Obama understood the distinction quite well and, as I say, he just got carried away. The irony is that had he been a professor, he would likely not have been as qualified to run for president -- since his energy would have taken up with different things which are not good preparation for the presidency. You need to read the U. of Chicago's statement and my post more closely. Obama's fudging was not a crime and I didn't say it was anything but cocky resume padding -- which it certainly was. He's not a god, just a good candidate. And being a lecturer, as I already said, is no shame -- much as you and he want to make it one. His fudging was, however, a real insult to a lot of us who have supported him and don't feel quite so positive anymore. Your nastiness is not exactly useful to his campaign either. So much for the claims of a new kind of campaign.

Stop listening to Hillary and stay listening to Obama...Hillary should stop talking and start paying her bills... some of the small business owners that she owes are hurting because of her. People are having tough times and she should pay her bills....

How can Hillary fix the economy of the United States which includes balancing the budget...if she is not successful with the financial condition of her campaign?...that's scary.....

Who said I was listening to Hillary? I read an article and I'm trying to find out if it was true or if it was spin. I know how stories get distorted on the internet, so I'm trying to find out the truth so I can respond properly when I'm leaving comments on blogs.

I noticed this too, her counter seems to be manually updated. also her average donation did not change for one entire day. Obamas clock updated on its own every couple of minutes.

You know when I visited the site (Hillary money counter) the time was 00:30:00 when the money stopes ate 2,914,689.
And suddenly they say We DID It
and I was astonished and start to calculate some thing
The number of donnor counter was at 35,256
Immidiatly within 30something minut 1,000 donors gave her 178,135dollar to reach 3,092,824
Number of donor 36,256 (1,000 donor at 30 minutes)
WOW!
may be possible
Considering the number of people commenting in her HP every day (the max I saw was 101 a day per topic)
I wonder how this is possible

But I am happy for her if she really did that

A congressman proposed a new plan Monday to seat Michigan's 156 delegates at the Democratic National Convention - award 83 based on the state's Jan. 15 primary and the rest as a percentage of the national popular vote.

In a letter to Democratic Party boss Howard Dean, Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak called for giving Hillary Clinton 47 of the state's delegates as a result of her win there and Barack Obama 36 - with the remaining 73 to be doled out based on how each fares in the national vote, which Obama leads.

No sorry, I don't like this plan. That probaly would have sounded good for Florida because his name was on the ballot there, but Michigan, no. 50/50 or nothing. I want the people votes to count but come on, He was running against a Clinton, no one knew who Barack was back then. He had to get out there and let the people get to know him. He always does better then. But with absolutely no campaign and running against a Clinton,(whom name been out for years). Is just not fair. Some people probaly saw Barack Obama and really did not know much about him. When people hear him speak, when they see him, and know what he stands for, he always do better. Look at PA, I mean I honestly don't think he will win PA, but by him getting out and meeting the towns people, and people know him, he WILL close the gap some, and keep his delegate lead. Sorry, but for Hillary to say she won fair and square is another lie that she will never get me to believe, maybe her supporters, but not me. Some people never even went to vote in Michigan or Florida, because they thought it may not count. YOU CAN'T SEAT THE DELEGATES THERE because it was RULES in play. You don't change them in the middle of the game no matter what it will prove(big state win, or battleground for GE), it was not fair, that is why the DNC is so scared to touch this one. They are so careful, because this could come off as a stole election, if they don't be careful with the situation of the votes in those states. If HRC was in Barack shoes she WILL feel the same no matter what. She will fight along with her supporters saying to the end the rules were the rules. She said it once already when she was up in January early Feb.

These contributions are from individual donors. Mom and pop, you and me. Did you notice that when you make a donation on the Obama site, they ask where you work, your place of employment? This is just another attempt to smear Senator Obama. These are contributions from small donors who happen to work at oil companies.

Whats to clarify?

Individuals that either work for a company or thier spouses gave to the Obama's campaign of thier own free will. They did not put the money into a PAC (political action committee) and have lobbyists dole it out to Obama.

Look at it this way, you make a $50.00 donation to Obama's campaign. When you donate you are required by law to state who your employer is.

Do you honestly believe that just because you chose to donate $50.00 to Obama, that the company you work for now has any control over the White House if Obama wins?

If you do I have some swamp land, that could be built into a wonderful resort location, I would love to sell you. LOL

Well we start a new month, polls in Penn. look good for our man.
But was is disturbing, is that HRC continues to tell her lies.
Such as Obama wants her to drop out of the race and of course the biggest one lately is her NAFTA lie.
She has been saying in NC, Indiana and else where that she opposed NAFTA from the start.

Obama Headquarters: I hope you read this, but it is time for some adds showing that HRC is lying about NAFTA and proof that she promoted it for her husband when she was first lady......

Hope they will start running an add disputing this lie in NC, Indiana and Penn. The truth must be told.

Grieve for Yhose Who Cleave to Clinton

To all those who strive to seat Ms. Clinton as president, I extend my compassion. It is shocking that she has chosen to stay in this race. There is a great difference in running for the office, as opposed to providing the services which have been promised. Many of those who think they know Ms. Clinton are in for a surprise. Who they know is Bill Clinton, there is a huge difference. Sadly, Ms. Clinton has not even been able to conduct her campaign in an orderly fashion.

Despite all that Ms. Clinton has claimed, she cannot deliver. To date, this is the second time in her campaign that she has gone into debt. The first time she had to loan her campaign 5 million dollars. Presently, she is almost 9 million dollars in debt. Can she help us with the economy? No she can’t.

The money she owes is to little people who trusted her to pay them. She chose to spend money on what was most important to her…it was not those people who cheered her on. They were obviously not the foremost thought on her mind. She was not truthful with those people. One of the most important things that most of us want in a leader is honesty. We want to be able to believe that what is done will profit us…not hurt us. Can her constituents trust her? No they can’t.

The people on her campaign have no health care, according to the news. They have no way to be cared for if illness falls upon them. Sadly, Ms. Clinton, who has spent so much time talking about health care, does not believe in her very own plan. So…can we, Americans, believe in her health care plan? No we can’t.

Something that is cause for deep concern is how Ms, Clinton sees Obama’s ability to communicate. She says that speeches are just words. This is the thing…many children have already learned his speeches and have made presentations for their school districts. Should we allow children to think there is something wrong with speaking eloquently? Can we let children think that it is foolish to give a speech? No we can’t.

One of the most important things to almost all Democrats is ending the war in Iraq. As we confess that we should never been in this war, we must also rectify such a gross error in judgment. We dream of freedom Ms. Clinton has dreams of ducking snipers in Bosnia. We want to leave the war, and Ms. Clinton who now appears to be so dishonest is dreaming of an experience in a war zone. Can we believe that she will actually bring the troupes home? No we can’t.

Barack Obama opened his campaign with a message of hope. Ms. Clinton did everything possible to alleviate the inspiration that those who hear Barack speak, are sure to acquire. She has no signs of spirituality. None at all. Her faith has not been explored. There are no signs of compassion or empathy with her, She brings the kitchen sink, and the Tonya Harding method. Can we have faith or hope with her as our president? No we can’t.

Finally, Ms. Clinton was unable to run her own household…Can she run a country? No she can’t.

In just this short time, Ms. Clinton has shown an inability to handle the economy, have concern for education, to care about those who have cared about her, to be honest, to provide health care for her workers to simply have a smidgen of faith…and has cast doubt on what she will do regarding the war she voted for. She has shown incompetence and a lack of judgment. She has not shown the experience she claimed, nor has she given any solutions. Can she change? No she can’t.

When compared with Barack Obama…she is the road back. We, however are seeking change, We are excited about the opportunity to be at part of a change in how this country is run. We want the next president of the USA to be President Obama. We have to support him in any way that we can. From videos, to writing books that can be sold as contributions to this campaign, making calls os simply donation. We have to stand strong for our candidate…the options are unacceptable. Can we support him? Yes we can.

You probably heard the that Mrs. Clinton had between 7-8 million dollars in unpaid bills (which they claim are all paid now). Some of the bills were over 2 months old. One of the bills that was over 2 months old was her Health Insurance premium for her workers. Ironic as that is all by itself, if her health care plan was in force, she would have been heavily finned for non-payment of the health insurance premium.

The other item is when she contributed the $5 million to her campaign to get the supporters going, it was Not a contribution, it was a loan, which of course means she'll take the $5M back, and I'm sure with interest.

I think all of this shows how fiscally responsible each candidate has been.

This is the part that actually worries me most about HRC continuing to drag this out.

I think the divisions between the supporters will heal at least enough to keep McCain out of office, but when our capaign fundraising depends on regular folks like us, we will eventually all have given more than we can afford and will be tapped out for donating to the general election. The sooner we can spend money on defeating McCain, the better.

I gave 3 times last month and I am broke. I'm going to sell my daughter's baby gear that she has outgrown to a consignment shop today and give the proceeds to the campaign. Next week, we're having a yard sale (tag sale/garage sale/rummage sale- depending on where you're from!) as a fundraiser. I'm even selling stuff on Ebay for Barack. At this rate , I'll have probably sold off all my furniture by November.

Please Hillary, I really like my sofa. Stop this madness.

If HRC winds up earning more in March, it will likely be from wingnuts who want to see her win the Democratic nomination at all costs.

As far as our guy goes.. I think that when this website puts up one of those meters and we try to hit a certain amount, that we ALWAYS wind up raising tons and tons of money.

Did you notice that the average Clinton donor gives $120 and the average Obama donor gives $70? My guess is that there are some Clinton supporters that are desperately trying to keep her from being publicly embarrassed.

Well, this could be a clue:

On March 28, I recieved an e-mail from Hillary stating that they wanted to raise 3 million before April 1. To be exact, they told me that there were 3 days and 12 hours.

As of 2:00 monday afternoon, they STILL DIDNT HAVE IT! (I think they did end up meeting it, but still!)

Now they were asking for, lets see, a million dollars a day. In a FUNDRAISER. At the END OF THE MONTH! Crunch time! Barely $3 million!!!!

If we were fundraising at that rate in Feb, we would have earned HALF of what we did!

I think we're gonna do just fine! Yes We Can!

There is an attack going on right now.

Hillary and her minions are working to create an impression and environment in which they can argue as their newest strategy, "American just is not ready to elect a Black President" (especially because they believe they have used the Rev. Wright effectively enough to hamstring Obama from aggresively fighting this.
They have resorted to the tried and true "Reagan Democrats" (i.e.: pissed off anti affirmative action working class whites ain't about to elect no black affirmative action candidate). They only temporarily put this away.

Proof: They are sending out their black surrogates to talk up Rev. Wright again, like Mayor Nutter of Phil. Additionally, they are having media stories planted saying this is so and that it is DETERMINATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SEE:

We need to point out that not only African Americans but the proud to be called "liberal" whites are also the loyal base and this loyal base NEVER ABANDONED the party to go to the REPUBLICANS as Reagan Democrats or otherwise. Therefore, these OLD democrats, along with the new democrats who are overwhelming Barack supporters, and the enlightened Reagan Democrats who learned what the Republcans would do with their votes will all be Obama supporters in the General election just as they have been in ALL the states as opposes to the cherry picked states of Clinton.

Remember that most voters in IN are Republicans so Barack is too liberal for them anyway. In 2004, I think Bush won this state by 80% of the vote. Many of the "white" voters in Indiana are a lot like the people Barack is meeting in the bowling alleys and diners of PA and like the voters he wooed in downstate Illinois to win the Senate seat. BUT, I think Barack's anti-war stand will help in Indiana because even the most right-wing people I meet here have turned against the war (also reflected in letters to the editor from rural towns), in part, because Indiana has lost a lot of kids in Iraq.

I am outraged at this tactic of using race as an excuse for electability. Mark Halperin gave a report on CNN (link was posted earlier) that came right out and said she is telling this to the superdelegates, and she will use the vote breakdown in PA. Seems only a win in PA for Obama will stop this.

For what it's worth, I haven't watched television for about 10 years until this spring/ primary season. I think I've turned into a cable new politico junkie. (Scary, sheez oh man ..).

But now I watch all this stuff - looking for any news on my Obama man. But when I bring it up with my friends and family? They have NO idea what I'm talking about.

So the point is that most of America isn't watching this stuff guys. We are, because we're Obama Mamas and Daddys. We're crazy about this because we wish that November would come tomorrow and we could just vote and get it over with, dangit, and get our man into office. But most of America isn't watching all this stuff so I don't think we need to worry.

George I couldnt agree more!The Fox people along with a not to be underestimated role by the supposed honest networks and even print gave us 4'000 American dead in Iraq.The dead Iraqi civilians and our injured soldiers and Marines will make it all but impossible to influence the masses with BS THIS TIME!Even on CNN where we know Blitzer,Cooper,Yellin and Co. serve up BS on a plate the viewers aint buying it.I dont watch CNN except for live streaming but I notice (thru CNN's stupid polls and Caffertys not so stupid poll questions) that despite attempts by the above to influence oppinion ,democrats arent buying it.

First let me say I'm not a Lou Dobbs fan, I respect him for standing up for what he believes in, but his beliefs are not mine so I can't stand to watch him. I usually change stations after his intro of the show.

Second, for those that don't already know, I'm African American.

Now here are my thoughts. I hope this doesn't get blown out of proportion via the MSM. We have enough distractions going on as it is. I watched the provided clip and I think he was going to say cotton picking not cotton pickers... I know similar meaning.. but being from the deep south I know people of the older generation used to use the cotton picking phrase a lot. For example, 'they have no cotton picking business doing that'... etc.

I'm not excusing the phrase, I know from where it derives, but over time people begin to use it with a different intent. I. E., 'that is crazy' or 'he is ridiculous', without really thinking about the words original orgin or meaning.

As much as I dislike Lou Dobbs political and social views, I have to say I give him some credit for stopping himself from saying something that could have been perceived as offensive by some.

Perhaps I'm being Polly Anna, but I think if he meant it in a racially derragatory way it would have came out completely without him being able to stop it. But he probably has southern roots or parents with southern roots and grew up using this term, but not necessarily as a racial slight.

I don't know, I guess Obama's speech on race has caused me to try to be a bit more understanding on these things and give folks the benefit of the doubt until they do something serious enough to lose that benefit.

If we don't start forgiving the little infractions we all are guilty of doing in some form or fashion, we will never get to bigger more important discussions and begin to heal our wounds.

Having said all of that, if anyone is looking for a place to donate, please support my page. I'm $240 short of my goal... its getting to be sort of embarassing, LOL :>)

I think he grew up in Texas. Also, I have heard him say "cotton picking" before and he was never using it as a racist remark. I have to agree with your post. I used to watch him a lot, but haven't done so recently, and I don't think he would be racist in his remarks on his show. Not excusing the remarks, just trying to explain them a little.

My $.02

I grew up a standard issue white boy in Texas and "cotton-picking" was a pretty common term in my family - particularly older folks. "Now just a cotton-pickin' minute!!!" was common. It was never used in a racist way and to be honest I never thought about what it really meant.

To be sure, my parents were raised in rural Louisiana in the 40's and 50's and the were exposed to as much segregation and bigotry you can imagine, but they were never racist as far as I can remember. They were conservative Christians who acknowledged they way things were. But they were just fine when things started changing for the better in the 60's. In fact my dad participated in some protests at college to allow black students equal access to facilities when he was at LA Tech.

Anyway, now I am 43 and I have never considered what the term "cotting-picking" ever meant until I read this post. Of course now I can see the negative connotation, but some things really lose meaning over time. Unlike the "N" word. I have to say, I can be pretty blasphemous sometimes, but nothing makes feel like lightning would strike me down more than uttering that word. So I don't.

So, thank you Talesia for your enlightened response. I don't know much about Lou Dobbs, but I would not be inclined to take his comment as a blatantly racist remark.

Response to grimms in the lost in last blog…sorry I wrote this and then my 7 year old got up and puked EVERWHERE just before I posted (he felt so bad that we came up with all the names for puke, vomit, gurgitation, throw up…..ok yuk back on topic)

I am in a similar position as you. I’m a life long republican, between my husband and I under Obama’s plan our taxes WILL go up. Now we just hit over 150 as married filling jointly (talk about airing private info, but around here we’re like family) anyhow, I appreciate being told upfront that our taxes will go up. With a daughter in college who doesn’t qualify for any aid, and a son at home….we really don’t actually have a lot of “play” money. We both have stable jobs and great health care, so no benefit there in voting for Obama. Currently I work as a school social worker and do a lot of home visits, and yes there are many well an able bodies sitting home collecting fed and state money……but there are also a lot of good hard working poor people just trying to make it.

This campaign is not like the rest, it’s not about me and how I would benefit, because I won’t directly. Oh, and I don’t even know anyone personally in Iraq! So where is the benefit? That’s the beauty of it; it’s for the greater good. It’s because it’s the right thing to do and we know it in our deepest sole. Obama sees the best in people not the worst, I have to believe that for every person sitting home collecting a check there’s another who really needs it to feed their kids and they’ve been hitting the pavement to get a job and there’s another working shifts and doing there best breaking their backs as cleaner in places like your husbands practice and as custodians in the schools that I work at. As a Republican I must admit that I was jaded that I was not going to vote to raise my taxes when I felt that I worked hard and that I was entitled to keep my hard earned money, but you know what…..I give the benefit of the doubt because I can be better then that. I an ask more of myself and I can do more.

As for your pragmatic republican family, look at this way, would you rather spend a million dollars on one bomb to land on a country that did attack us, a country where we the Americans have cause causalities of young children…a war that we have lost many of own barley adult youth? Hey if as a republican my money is going to go to “waste” better it be for the potential of greater good then for assured destruction.

After that, have them read it view points on religion, foreign policy…..etc. You will find that he is not the “liberal” that the republicans are trying to paint him. He is actually a very logical and fair minded person whose policies reflect a balance of giving to college students and expecting service, of making health universally available but not requiring it, of talking with our enemies but being tough of terrorism and national security. Fair and balanced. I can live with that. I personally can give a little and I can also expect to live in a county lead by an honest president who believes in and honors the constitution.

My husband is an electrician, I stay at home with my 2 boys, and our income is 50k a yr. It sucks a$#. We're in debt up to our eye- balls,and have a hard time putting food on the table, so Barck's plan would be great for us, so Thank you for understanding!We don't make enough $$$ to write our house off on taxes, or even write my husbands tools off on taxes. I don't have a college degree, so trying to pay for day-care isn't even worth it, especially when I would be making, maybe $8.00 an hr., and paying $200.00 a wk(in daycare). My husband has made the same amount for the past 3yrs. which is fine, but our Health Insurance went from $25.00 a wk. to $85.00 a wk. How do we survive inflation? It's impossible. We, this country, needs help! We don't even have a Savings Account! How sad.

All for one and one for all, or as Obama likes to say “I am my brothers keeper, I am my sisters keeper”. I remember being a single mom at the age of 22 putting myself through college by pumping gas (back when it was full service, not THAT long ago) and working not one but two scholarship based jobs for professors, as well as serving in the army reserves and attending ROTC…..all while raising a 3 year old on my own(the one now in college) and counting my pennies for milk.

Hang in there and never let go of your dreams…..

We ALL need help in some shape or form at sometime or another, maybe it’s a kind word, a help with a bill, or just standing up for what's right.

Thank you so much for your reply. I hope she is following the blog and will see it. I grew up in a very Republican home and now live in the midst of a Republican stronghold. My husband is Republican! He says HRC makes him ill. But he will sit and watch an entire speech of Barack's. And then go, "Huh, quite a message." That is the HUGEST compliment, coming from him. He is soooo relieved that I gave up backing HRC!
My Republican neighbors also defended Obama during the Wright controversy. They thought the MSM was hyping it and went way overboard, and that THEY were the true hatemongers.
So I have a lot of HOPE that this movement will really do so much to unite our country and take it back for the people. The signs are good from Eastern WA.

I think that Obama can cross over party lines because these so called lines are a great phenomena of politics gone too far…..when did the American people of the revolution decide that they were not one America but two (ok I know some history person is going to tell us), but the point is that we are all Americans with the same hopes and dreams….this party line thing has had a more negative effect as a barrier to things getting done in Washington as apposed to being a method of bringing apposing views into balance. As Obama would say people go to church on Sundays in Blue states and we have gay friends in red states (para phrasing). Honestly, I can see him as an independent, unfortunately this two party system has become so ingrained and many of the most powerful will not change this stalemate system because they feed off of it, so a third party candidate really doesn’t have a chance of a snow ball in hell of getting elected. But who knows, if Barack can become the next president (and I believe he will) then anything is possible. I am ready either for the parties to become one and unite as one America under one flag, or for other parties like independents and the green party to gain some power and for us to become a multi party system and end the gridlock in Washington.

Jasmine you rock! I feel the same way even though I'm a democrat. Thank God I'm blessed with a wonderful healthcare plan via my employer, and my parents had to foresight to get a gap policy via BCBS many, many years ago and it is now paying off big time filling in the stuff medicare hasn't covered for my dad whom has stage 4 cancer.

But its not about me or my family, its about the rest of America. I want people to have the opportunity to have good health coverage that they can afford. I don't necessarily want a big government plan that dolls it out at the cost of other programs or via higher taxes, nor take an automatic amount out of people wages without knowing if they can afford it or not. But instead provide them with the option of selecting something they can afford and still be covered.

I know this can be done because my first employer offered cafeteria plans that allowed even the lowest salaried employee to find something they could afford, still provide some preventative care and have catastophic coverage.

Like Obama, I feel if given an affordable option most Americans that need to will step to the plate and select it, even if it means going without cable or taking sandwiches for lunch or some other sacrifice so they can.

But that type of option won't be easy to create and put out there. It will take public and private sectors working together to make it happen. I think Obama is the only candidate out there with the temperment and skills to getting us even close to something like that, and even with his skills its going to be a hard uphill battle. It wouldn't surprise me if it took all of his eight years in office to make it happen. I just hope the American people will understand that and patiently work with him.

Thanks Talesia, and for our friends like Kara from OH, for those who can't afford any the plan does allow for fully subsidized healthcare for certain income brackets....I don't remember who much...but don't fret if you feel that you can't afford anything....it's the middle income that will have to pay some and the cost goes down in per potion to the income until health care becomes free.

And sorry about your dad...my father in law has cancer too...it's really sad especially for my husband who always saw his dad as such a strong man.

I enjoyed your post a lot. I just wanted to mention one thing. In terms of the Social Security Tax, American citizens only pay on the first $97,500. In order to ensure that Social Security is financially solvent in the future, Sen. Obama wants to raise that cap. It is based on each indivdual not the income of the entire household.

Also, his other policies temper in possible raise in taxes. For exammple, providing $4,000 to college students, no income taxes for seniors who make less than $50,000, and driving down healthcare premiums.

How many American families have to children in college, assist in taking care of ailing parents, and a significant portion of their income are devoted to healthcare costs.

A vote for Obama just makes sense no matter what your political party.

I am watching Larry King Live and I feel ill. Why can't we get better and stronger surrogates to go up against the likes of Lanny Davis and KiKi McCLain? Jamal Simmons is nice enough, but he's no match for Lanny Davis et al--often he just smiles or shakes his head thru a lot of the Clinton mud-slinging (like Davis blaming Obama for the Florida and Michigan mess etc.) This is driving me nuts---Where is Tom Dashle? He's not currently in the Senate--why can't we get him to do some of these gigs?? Am I the only person who thinks we need stronger surrogates on our side? The Clinton Machine is going to beat the Florida and Michigan thing to death--they are going all over Indiana and Pennsylvania saying that Obama is trying to stop people from voting. I think a lot of folks might actually start believing Billary if they say it enough over the next month. Our campaign needs to make it clear that all Obama is doing is abiding by the DNC rules--ruels which all of the cadidates agreed toi in writing--but rules which Billary obviously wish to reinterpret for their own purposes--they started their Florida and Michigan spin the very night of the South Carolina Primary--back in January--yeesh. I agree. I have been saying the same thing for awhile. Jamal is nice but the Clinton surrogates are tough and you need someone equally tough.

The Clinton camp want the Michigan and Florida to revote or be seated as is. They aren't open to anything else. They want to stack the deck in favor of them. I can't say that if I was in their position I wouldn't want the thing, but I am not. I think rules are rules. If people of Florida and Michigan don't turn out to vote in the GE I believe Clinton will be to blame.

Also, it should be noted that it was the Republican run state government that kept them from having their votes counted in the primary, people of Florida and Michigan should remember this when they go to the polls to vote for State elections. I don't hear this argument being put forth by Obama surrogates. I think it is an argument that needs to be made.

Well, I can say for sure that I would not want the same thing. There is such a thing as fairness. I can't believe the public cannot see how childish and selfish Shrillery is being about this. I liken the situation as dealing a hand of cards. Before the cards are dealt at random, the game is fair. But after the hands are dealt, is it no longer fair when one person has a better hand than another? All had agreed that without FL and MI counting, everyone would be on equal ground. But to seat them now, would benefit only one candidate. This is like giving the person with the weaker hand an extra card. I've had enough of "silly season". If the DNC caves and seats the delegates, I will vote for Obama, but will have no loyalty whatsoever to the Democratic Party.

I agree with you regarding the tactics of refuting the statements made by the likes of the babbling talking heads like Lanny Davis. I like Jamal Simmons, and have wondered if he is advised not be confrontational. If this is the case – I wish he and the other surrogates would not permit the Clinton surrogates to always ignore the questions asked of them and to not let them ALWAYS get the last opportunity to spin the topic and rattle out their prepared talking points.

The Clinton campaign is truly amazing! They employ the kitchen sink strategy – then go on TV and make statements how Obama is attacking Hillary. When asked questions that reflect negatively on Hillary, instead of answering – they point to how Obama did something not even comparable.

I actually hold the hosts and moderators responsible for letting Lanny and the other Clinton talking heads (Wolfson & crew) to ignore the questions asked to break into Billary scripted propaganda.

I definitely agree with all the previous statements but I do think Jamal Simmons is a awesome spokesperson and would be a good addition to the Obama campaign. He is only a democrat strategist who supports Obama but tries to stay objective. But where are the Kennedys, Kerry, Dodd, Richardson, etc.
Who can punch back at the lanny davis or gov rendall BIG MOUTHS. We do need some tough dogs out on our side datblasted!

Lanny Davis is the best thing going - to demonstrate how the Clintons have needed someone like him to constantly muddy the waters of understanding. I like how Jamal is straightforward, polite and refreshing in contrast. Lanny beats people about the head with old data and makes a point of trying to brand the opposition with slash and burn remarks. Lanny spews just the kind of rhetoric voters hate. In contrast, Jamal has high respect and believability (imho).

yes, I'm currently incognito.... I had an epiphany the other day while brushing my teeth: I got the call to have dinner with Obama so out I flew. We played some hoops, then i presented my theories on US foreign policy and my skepticism of the "war on terror." He vowed to appoint me Chief Independent Investigator for BushCo. oversight, which gave me broad authority to investigate the myriad serious crimes of the Bush administration over the past 8 years. i unearthed mountains of evidence implicating Senior Officials in war crimes, crimes against humanity, sponsorship of terrorism, fraud and accessory to murder. Several high-ranking officials within the Cheney administration were successfully prosecuted and I was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. With my new prestige and prize money, I returned home and rejoined my band and toured the country. We had a couple TopTen hits, made millions and I retired a rich and happy man.

He's attention starved. He couldn't even get Republicans to vote for the Republican he wanted.

I really think he's not impacting the race much. Limbaugh's effect in Texas & Ohio is overstated, even by some of us Barack Obama supporters out of convenience. It's much more convenient to believe we lost Ohio because of Limbaugh, but I doubt his faithful listeners cracked even 1% point.

I talked to my republican brother in Huston before the election, and it was a wide spead plan..real easy. But giving money, or changing parties to vote, not so easy as punching a card...so I'm so worried about the efect in closed election as in fund raising.

We are going to go ahead and try to make up a campaign cookbook as a Spring fundraiser. We could have it be a fundraiser all the way through the general election! If you would like to help us out you can send me your own family recipes (the ones you are willing to share) and any story connected with them that you would like to include, and I will see that they get into the cookbook and give you all the credit of course. This is a grassroots cookbook-no frills and not fancy. We would like it to represent all of us in this rather large, loud and happy Obama family!

But please--send only your own recipes that you love, grew up with, provoke a special memory, etc., not ones straight from another cookbook. Especially, we would love to have recipes that represent the many cultures represented in this campaign, whatever background and wherever we live in the whole wide world.

The main thing is that each recipe should be representative of your family and what you enjoy when you all get together, or things you and your friends always fix when you are together.

I would like to have recipes representing all the states and the stories you share make it seem as though the recipes are from dear friends. I think we can create a pretty good book with all the talent on this blog!

If you would like to participate, have a good family recipe (not from a previously published cookbook!) or have helpful ideas on how to make this a great cookbook just send me an email.

It will be a really nice thing to be able to look back on these days while leafing through our cookbook, don't you think? In our spare time...after a long day of changing the world!?

Hello! Yes, I grew up in a little town called Surry, pretty close to Bar Harbor. Out of the 38 states I have visited, Maine is by far my favorite. I was just on the phone with my Mom (Portland, ME) and we were both saying how proud we were of Maine for it's strong support of Obama! A pretty republican state, too. There aare alot of cool Mainers on this blog, I have noticed. Maybe they will be checking in when they see our discussion.....

Wow, Paula, I have relatives in East Millinocket! Also used to stay at a camp up on Lake Millinocket where my Dad had a friend. I felt so hobbit-y in those woods.

What a country, no? Unbelievable to see sunset/afterglow over Mt. Katahdin at midnight in the middle of the summer. Hear the loons... One night a bat got into the camp and swooped all around. Another time I peeked under the bedspreads in the bunk room and saw whisky bottles stacked two deep and three high. It was then that I understood what our host meant when he said the camp was 'fully winterized'... :-)

The article is not too negative. It says that Indiana is competitive and if Barack has a presence similar to what he is doing in PA he could win. Those anecdotes are not representative of everybody and the 37% that said they were less likely to vote for Obama because of Wright are probably dominated by people who were not going to vote for him anyway. So I wouldn't get overly concerned.
