I've put together some ready-to-print 8½ by 11 inch signs made for the today's contests. Print them out and tape them up in the windows of your house, tape some up in your car, give them to other supporters or use them as signs! Email your friends and family asking them to do the same!

While Obama Camp Moves to End Campaign Before South Dakotans Voices are Heard, Clinton Campaign Accepts McGovern Proposal
Last Tuesday, Senator McGovern laid out a proposal for concluding the primary process that included joint appearances and party-building efforts by Senator Clinton and Senator Obama in the remaining primary states. At the time, Senator Daschle indicated that the Obama campaign had "interest in joint appearances."

The Clinton campaign today released the following statement from state director Geoff Wetrosky on Senator McGovern’s proposal:

"The Clinton campaign in South Dakota believes Senator McGovern’s proposal is in the best interests of both the party and the nation.

Given the disturbing reports that the Obama camp intends to unilaterally declare this process over before June 3, Senator McGovern should be commended for fighting to ensure that thousands of South Dakota voters get to have their say.

With only a few states remaining, we believe this is a workable proposal that will greatly benefit the citizens of South Dakota. Hillary has already visited the state twice to discuss her plan to invest in alternative energy and her rural agenda, and she is expected to return; we would welcome a joint appearance where both candidates discuss their plans for South Dakota.

In short: we accept. Given Senator Daschle's comments at the time and Senator Johnson's declaration that the primary should continue through June 3, we hope Senator Obama will join us."

I don't think Clinton is giving up anything. I think she is being slick. She is capitalizing on an opportunity to campaign in "quasi" debate style in SD and to take advantage of the crowd that Barack will draw which she never would garner.

This will only work to benefit Clinton and they know it. They would never jump on anything if it did not have a calculated advantage to them.

I don't think Barack should do it. Let her campaign on her own merits and not Barack's drawing ability.

I think that the only time this should be done is if she concedes, only THEN can they campaign together. That's the only way you can have unity.

If she's still in the running, this is an ABSOLUTELY NOT answer. Why? Because she would only be taking advantage of the situation.

She knows Montana and South Dakota are in favor of Obama. And she's out of money. So getting free publicity and coverage as well as getting big crowds to see her freely will only help her.

If you want the privilege to be with Obama, then you need to have the right intentions.

I'm very suspicious of this, as are million others.

A "campaign together" would only work if he doesn't have to watch his back. With Clinton still trying whatever she can to steal the nomination, this would not be a good thing.

You guys are right about this one! As long as she is in the race let her stand on her own two feet and quit trying to use Senator Obama for a crutch. And you know the media will spin the event for Hillary as if Obama was there with her.

He will announce that we've reached a major milestone.

Unless he has 50 supers declaring for him today, he won't announce he's the nominee. That would be presumptuous!

He will declare that we have amassed the majority of pledged delegates and that is a clear sign of who the people want for President!

That is a major milestone!

There are a lot of supers who said they would support the candidate with the majority of pledged delegates. So the end is near. They will come out very shortly.

Obama can not announce that he has "won" or that he "is the nominee" or "victory." He can declare that he has scored more points (pledged delegates) than Clinton and that Superdelegates should take that into consideration when deciding who to support!

However!! On June 3rd, unless the rules are changed regarding MI & FL (May 31st), Obama may be able to claim the nomination. He will have won 80 more pledged delegates and may have received enough Supers (30) by then to reach the 2025 mark!

I think tomorrow will be th big day. It will be after midnight before the final results of Oregon come in. Once it is known the breakdown of delegates from both KY and OR we will see how many he has left to hit 2025. I think at that point we will see a BUNCH of supers come out to put this thing to rest. That way HRC can't really get away with much at the Rules committe at the end of the month. Obama will have already clinched the nomination. But I agree I don't trust HRC ONE bit he shouldn't do ANY joint appearances UNTIL she has publicly "thrown in the towel". Until then she is still running and can't be trusted. Let her run on her own. What I find really amusing is HRC has so many supporters saying "we won't vote for Obama we'll vote for McSame." Or "we will campaign against the DNC.". HRC is in DEEP debt, why don't those supporters put their money where their mouths are???? If they believe in their candidate so much why don't they give more money to her?

I'm not sure that its important that he declare victory tonight, I think we will have a easier time getting clinton supporters if THEY feel like we "really did win" and I think that is probably going only be clear in two weeks.
We need to be shifting gears here, WE know we are going to win and are going to need her supporters. I don't think there are all that many poeple who wouldn't vote for Obama if they knew all his policies, so thats the job we need to do!

When she throws in the towel. Her first stops should be Florida, Michigan, and West Virginia. She should work her BUTT off EVERYDAY in these states to get him to the White House. She needs to tell all of her supporters to get behind him. She needs to apologize for some of the harsh words she used in order to convince WV that no one would vote for him. ONLY she can heal the wounds. A true Democrat will fight for the nominee, and it is OBAMA... Cry your river, and let's get this party started for NOVEMBER!!!!

McGovern's heart is -- as always -- in the right place, but Hillary would have nothing to lose and a fair amount to gain by this proposal, because Barack is way ahead in both states and the effect of McGovern's proposal would be to dilute Barack's momentum.

I look at it this way: If Clinton really wants to start promoting party unity, the biggest step she can make is to concede the nomination and stop the bleeding.

Until then, why should she tag along and be the beneficiary of Barack's crowd-drawing power?

Once she concedes the nomination, they should start appearing onstage together from that day onwards -- but not before!

I am just getting on the blog, but I have read your recent post. I do know that Barack is no fool. He and his campaign is very much on to Hillary and her bullshi-. Also on another note, I laid down last night and I realized that everyone is talking about John McCain releasing 5 different lobbyist because of their finacial ties to foreign hostile Countriea. One should not just think that it is some rightous thing that John McCain did. The only reason he did this was because he knows that Barack will be the nominee, and Barack would expose him, his dealings, and the republicans. John McCain waited so late to release them because the republicans were hoping that Hillary would be the nominee, then they wouldn't have to reveal their money sources due to the fact that Hillary and Bill are just as corrupt as John and Cindy McCain. Who would have been Hillary to bring up John McCains dealings. So now Barack is the Nominee and their dirt will be exposed. I don't trust Hillary and she has sold her soul to the devil (republicans), and the devil is here to collect (all that foriegn money givers who gave to Bill an Hill).

Barack wouldn't do that, Kellygirl. It is obvious that she does not like him as a person, and would try to stab him in the back. In addition, she knows that she has lost. She is actually running for 2012. That means Barack will be in a continuopus campaign, and he has to accomplish what he said he would. Hill doesn't know it, but he will. As for me, I am going to keep having his back throughout this entire presidency. I want him to have 2 terms, Hill is always bragging about Bill being one of the few Democratic presidents that completed2 terms.

I wish this was true, but I too do not think that the Clinton will give up very easily. I don't think the process will end until June 3rd. However, Senator Obama without declaring victory has appeared to move on by taking on McCain with foreign policy issues.

HRC has been showing her true colours over and over again, which leads me to the conclusion that even this time she must be up to no good. The fact is, Clinton has lost but won’t admit it. She is just looking for a way to stick around. She won’t let go. She’s a leech.
I really hope this so called “proposal” is not thought to be some sort of “ticket” rehearsal. I simply wish she’d get a one-way ticket back to NY.

I was coming to complain about this msnbc article!HOW are we supposed to have unity and compassion for her supporters when she says things like this?

Jonathan Alter's been spending time with the Clinton's and more or less says she's in so much denial, it's too paiful for her to lose.

I feel like we are so sensitive, in spite of it all.

How come she always gets to play the victim card and we have to be like OH yeah... that, ha ha ha, it's just how Geraldine IS! Oh, ha ha, we don't have "the votes, so (Barack's claim to the nomination) doesn't matter."

It will be over soon enough and Obama will win. Hillary is just staying in it to show her supporters she does not give up and for her future prospects (ie. third term senate, govenor or even a run for president for 2012).

I agree. He will have a majoirty tonight once he wins Oregon. He is not going to hint at the fact that she should drop out because he cares about her voters and he knows that they are going to be upset when she loses. He needs to do this in order to get the poeple that were voting for her.

You know she would have declared victory about two months ago if the primary fortunes had been reversed. Not only would she have declared victory, but she would have had every party insider in the country (plus Bill) out there strong-arming the supers, Howard Dean, and everybody else to get Barack to quit.

I hate to say it, but you sure sum things up accurately. It's beyond ridiculous, at this point. HRC's behavior has reminded me for quite a while now, like a bully on the playground. Then her supporters go crying sexism, etc. But what really gets me is, I feel she just can't accept losing. There has been this entitlement issue, since the beginning of the campaign. What about uniting the party? Why won't she rally her voters around Barack, knowing full well he WILL be the nominee? Why does she constantly try and weaken him?

How is she helping the Democrats, and why won't the party heads put her in her place? I'm all for uniting the party. But we can't cater to her every whim, while she tirelessly tries to drag Obama down, and destroy the party. We need to write again to the DNC, and ask them to put a stop to all of this. This dragging it out to convention plan, was and is a really BAD idea.

I do feel quite strongly now, that Clinton has this concept that if she can't win in 2008, she will weaken Obama, so that he will lose against McCain, then she will come "to the rescue" in 2012. She needs to wake up. If she keeps trying ot make Obama lose the GE, no one in our party, will ever speak her name again, without pure disgust, and she will go down in history as the worst loser of all time.

And meanwhile, McCain and company, are jumping for joy.

I say LET THEM! If they want Republican rule for another 4 years I say GO FOR IT! Then they won't have anyone to blame but themselves. Personally I could care less. It's their choice to do so. If Obama had lost to HRC I would have voted Libertarian, it's my choice, I'm an independant I don't have to vote on "party lines". That's an stupid concept anyway. I vote for the person, I don't care if their democrat or republican, or Libertarian. I voted for Ronald Regan, then when Bush Sr. came around, I voted Libertarian, then I voted for Bill Clinton his FIRST term, then republican his second run, then When Bush Jr. came around I voted Libertarian again TWICE - as I didn't like any other choices. This time I have and will vote for Obama (he is the nominee unless HRC pulls some psychotic stunt).

Overnight Super Endorsement

Iowa party leader to endorse Obama

Iowa Democratic party chairman Scott Brennan plans to endorse presidential candidate Barack Obama today, leaving Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin as the state's only superdelegate to have not endorsed in the race.

Brennan, a Des Moines lawyer, plans to make the announcement at a 10 a.m. News conference today at the state Democratic headquarters in Des Moines, party officials said.

Obamaman when I heard that I thought I was hearing things. I said, now I know Hillary (right wing conspiracy theory) Clinton is not accepting her gospel from Karl Rove. I know I'm hearing things right? Wrong! I know she is continuing to campaign and fight for the nomination and for that I will respect, but I don't get this embracing the Republican party.

Did anyone else hear that Hillary's former campaign manager, Patti Solis Doyle is in discussion with the Obama campaign for the general election? I'm not that crazy about this because she failed miserably for Hillary Clinton's campaign and as a life long Yankee fan, I'm a little superstitious when it comes to things like this. Just doesn't feel right but I will trust this campaign because they have been solid all the way through.

They mentioned Patti Solis this morning on MSNBC. The only reason I would think the Obama campaign would bring her over is to help out with the Latino vote. She's a mobilizer and of course has her Latino supporters. However, I felt a little tentative too.
I trust the Obama camp knows what their doing and will use her in the best possible position to assist the campaign.

Not exactly. Eastern is UTC -4 (DST), Central is -5, Mountain is -6 and Pacific is -7, none of which answers the question of which time zone KY is in. For those who wonder what the hell I'mm talking about, UTC is "Coordinated Universal Time" formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time, or the time in Greenwich, England. How it got into this discussion, I haven't a clue. Now you know why people don't engage air traffic controllers in conversation. :)

You're right marytnurse, I question the validity of most all of America's elections and hesitate to call us a democracy anymore. Some areas see more tampering than others. You know, I responded to your numbers with my own predictions for Obama's endgame a blog or two back, but my post was removed by Admin.

Let's see if you can guess why my post was removed...

1. I commented on, oh, let's call it "what happened" in Nevada. I used a rather forceful, though completely unprofane word about the Clinton campaign's... "tactics".

2. I claimed something completely unsubstantiated about Puerto Rico's political history saying that Hillary will win BIG, that the Obama campaign doesn't want to be associated with. Think 2000 and Al Gore...

3. I called EXACTLY how this primary campaign will end, which includes some cleverness by Barack and the team, bless them.

Ha! I predicted Iowa within a point, I predicted South Carolina within 2 points. Yes, I blew New Hampshire, because I thought there was no crying in baseball. Link

Iowa party leader to endorse Obama

Iowa Democratic party chairman Scott Brennan plans to endorse presidential candidate Barack Obama today, leaving Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin as the state's only superdelegate to have not endorsed in the race.

Brennan, a Des Moines lawyer, plans to make the announcement at a 10 a.m. News conference today at the state Democratic headquarters in Des Moines, party officials said.

Clinton cites Karl Rove as reason to stay in

Hillary Clinton defended her reasoning for staying in the presidential race Monday afternoon by pointing out that Karl Rove's analysis shows her to be the strongest candidate against John McCain in November.

“There has been a lot of analysis about which of us is stronger to win against Sen. McCain, and I believe I am the stronger candidate,” said Clinton, repeating a line from her stump speech.

Then she veered from her usual argument.

“Just today I found some curious support for that position when one of the TV networks released an analysis done by - of all people - Karl Rove, saying that I was the stronger candidate,” said Clinton. “Somebody go a hold of his analysis and there it is.”

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s former campaign manager and confidante, Patti Solis Doyle, and Sen. Barack Obama’s top adviser have informally discussed the former Clintonite’s going to work for the Obama campaign in the general election.

Solis Doyle’s possible hiring is a major breach not just in Clinton’s campaign but in the political universe known as “Hillaryland,” a term Solis Doyle reportedly coined after joining the Clintons in 1991 as the first lady's personal scheduler. She was forced out of Hillary Clinton’s campaign in February amid internal criticism about her spending practices and preparation for upcoming contests.

“I’ve talked to Patti throughout. I know that she wants to be helpful in a general election campaign, and we appreciate that,” Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod told Politico, declining directly to answer the question of whether he and Solis Doyle had discussed her working for the campaign.

My Hopes and Joys

It has been nice to see the change in the tone of the campaign from Sen. Clinton. Now her campaign is on a higher level as well.

It is nice to see the prospect that after tomorrow, a majority of the pledged delegates will be associated with Sen. Obama. It would also be nice if a flood of super-delegates would indicate support for Sen. Obama and provide a majority for this metric as well.

It would be nice if the polls would show that the number of Sen. Clinton supporters who indicate that they will not vote for our tremendous candidate is decreasing rapidly.

We will have to wait until later today for the ultimate poll, but I was hoping that there would be a lot of indications from the polls that Sen. Obama would be doing much better in both of the May 20th primaries.

Even though all indications imply Sen. Obama will be our nominee, I am hoping that the results of tomorrow, and the aftermath of those results, will provide much greater indications of closure in the nomination process.

Hi everyone, just a little story before bed time:

My daughter has never gotten her driver's license because she was afraid to drive in front of her classmates in the driver's ed course. We could never convince her, and yes, we didn't help because she always had a ride from Mom or Dad, but finally, I told her that if she didn't get her driver's license, she would not be able to vote in November.

That brought a response! Normally, I get the teenage cold shoulder, but this time she stopped dead in her tracks and turned and said "WHAT, YOU MEAN I CAN'T VOTE FOR BARACK?" I said, yep, thats right . . . long story short, she starts driver's ed next week!

Finally! Change you REALLY can believe in!

Interviews with those considering how to handle the two states' banished convention delegates found little interest in the former first lady's best-case scenario. Her position, part of a formidable comeback challenge, is that all the delegates be seated in accordance with their disputed primaries.

Even if they were, it wouldn't erase Barack Obama's growing lead in delegates.

This show is about two teenage boys growing up in eastern Kentucky near the border with West Virginia. This show takes some time to view and is split into three different parts. (1) KENTUCKY WILL LIKELY PUT US OVER THE TOP WITH RESPECT TO PLEDGED DELEGATES (even if she beats us badly)

(2) OREGON WILL THEN LIKELY PUT US OVER THE TOP WITH RESPECT TO PLEDGED DELEGATES EVEN IF FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN ARE INCLUDED (especially since they are likely to be cut in half as punishment for voting early)

(3) THAT WILL RELEASE SUPERS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO GOING WITH THE PLEDGED DELEGATE WINNER

AND SO WE'LL VERY SOON END UP CLOSE TO THE MAGIC NUMBER OF DELEGATES NEEDED TO WIN THE NOMINATION. HURRAY!!!

I'm sorry, but Sen. Clinton is at the weird math again.

I agree with the idea that the pledged delegates should be a primary metric.

Popular vote can also be a valid metric, but what is counted needs to be done in a fair and equitable manner. How can one talk about including Michigan and Florida in any way that can be truly fair, but that is what Sen. Clinton wants. She agreed to not counting anything at the beginning and now wants to change the rules. Sen. Obama followed the rules and did not really do anything in either state. How can one claim to count all the votes in Michigan? If Sen. Obama's name was on the ballot, he would have gotten a reasonable percentage. I also don’t remember any of the re-vote plans being really fair either (and possibly having legal problems), and so we have Sen. Obama being blamed for not going along with unfair plans – nuts!

Then Sen. Clinton talks about not disenfranchising any voters, yet is unwilling to include those that voted in state caucuses. Their votes should count as much as those in the other 48 states that did not break the rules.

This whole thing is totally ridiculous.

Yup weird math and the way she wants them counted will in fact disinfranchise all the voters who voted undecided... All the people who took the time to go and caucus.. Guess her math doesnt match the logic she is trying to get people to believe.

It was an article posted on here.... Hillary was saying that moveon.org was showing up in the caucus states and harrassing her voter's and that is why she lost them, and that they shouldn't count.

Hi there,

I've recently been prone to paranoid ramblings caused by a fear of our two camps not being able to reconcile in time for the general election. This fear of mine was based on the anti-BO posts at HRC.com and the anti-HRC posts here........

Then it occured to me. We Obama bloggers are the extreme suporters, as are the bloggers at HRC.com.......The average Obama supporter/voter is not on these boards 24/7. The same goes for the average HRC supporter/voter. Therefore my reasoning leads me to believe that most HRC supporters will come around to BO.

You'll read for yourself that HC supporters that we hear about in the media are a minority. The rest of them are true Democrats and will back the Dem. nominee no matter who.

S v K, I'm starting to believe the same thing. I mean, call me crazy (no wait, don't call me crazy!), but I have faith in the American people (specifically our fellow Dems) that they will realize, in time, that we're all on the same team.
Maybe it's wishful thinking...or maybe it's just HOPE!
Either way, once the dust settles, I look forward to welcoming her supporters with open arms. Our future is too important not to!

most have already gotten the message; some will never. the rest will eventually get it. and don't forget, we've known for months and months that she has paid bloggers, and that campaign blog posts are severely censored for their campaign; we do get quite a skewed view.

i'll be quite interested to see what happens in our state caucuses the 14th, if this whole thing is even still going on.

Clinton supporters will have weeks to contend with their grief, and Barack is already talking about unification.

No matter what somebody says in the passion of the fight (Clinton or Obama supporter) we will be one party and will take back the White House.

It is one of my lasting memories from canvassing in Pittsburgh--the women who told me that they were voting for HRC, but cheerfully added that they would vote for Barack in the fall. (We were instructed at that point not to try to change Clintonistas' minds, just get out our own vote, so I didn't pursue it further.)

Hillary’s Declaration about having “won the popular vote” misleads voters.

First of all it assumes that the Popular vote is the way the winner is determined. It is not. The winner is determined by delegate count.

Second of all, it assumes that the DNC is going to count the votes in Florida and Michigan “as is” even though Obama’s name was not on the ballot in Michigan. That is misleading because this has not been decided.

And finally, Hillary has not even won the popular vote. Her declared win of the popular vote does not include the states of Iowa, Nevada Maine and Washington. These states have not yet released their popular vote so there is not enough information for Clinton to make this declaration.

If we are to play the speculation game, then the speculation must also include the estimates from Iowa, Nevada Maine and Washington. When this is done AND counting Florida and Michigan (the state where Obama’s name was not even on the ballot) Hillary still loses.

That count is: Obama 17,018,836 Clinton 16, 935, 581. Obama still wins by 83,255 votes.

I agree completely. However, in time I believe they will have to be counted at some level to insure that everyone is Happy and no one feels disenfranchised. Which of course, HRC has now coined and is attempting to pin and use it against the Obama Campaign. It is pathetic to say the least and obviously rather disturbing that such tactics would be used. However, nothing surprises me from someone who is about to take a 20mil dollar hit.

It was reported on various news stations today that Hillary Clinton quoted Karl Rove as being in her corner and offering a vision of her as a viable candidate. She was seriously using an appearance he had made to further her campaign. At first I thought I must be hearing incorrectly but then the news reporter remarked that Kentucky was mostly Republicans. And some commentators asked is Hillary running as a Republican candidate or a Democratic one?

So is Hillary now openly courting the Republican vote in Kentucky to up her numbers there?

Anna Quindlen comments on the last page of NEWSWEEK dated May 26th called "The Last Word". She names her piece "The Highest Road". She states that at the end of Bill Clinton's presidency Bill pardoned Marc Rich on behalf of Denise Rich who had donated 1/2 million to Bill's presidential library. She talked about how no one could defend the self-destructive bent of much of his presidency. But everyone thought that Hillary was better than that. That she had more self-control and discipline.

She mentions that Hillary has gone down a "dark road" recently and no one knows "who Senator Clinton will be" when she finishes this campaign. She goes on to say"who thought the progressive feminist with the Ivy League credentials would ever take a campaign detour in which her slogan might as well have been " the candidate of white folks who believe despite all evidence to the contrary that the other guy is a Muslim?"

Hillary Clinton can still salvage her reputation and take the "High Road" and not as Anna says:"run a tutorial in Karl Rove 101, the Republican primer of diversion, aggression, and division. Behind all of this is truly a means/end argument: she would do what she needs to do to win, and then LATER do the right thing. The problem is that usually by the end (she will) have become the means."

Anna Quinlin is always so wise. From what I see, there is not going to be a "highest road" as the only road seems to be to win at all costs. This is beginning to make me very nervous, if not scared. Just finished a rather gluttonous few days watching all 22 episodes of the first season of "Prison Break." (Okay, I am on sabbatical and such a treat is one of the rewards.) What a great series. Does anyone else who has seen the series agree with me that the character of "Madame Vice-President" is much too close to what we are seeing right now in the Clinton campaign? Let's be vigilant--we need to continue to write to DNC protesting these kinds of tactics, ie., citing Karl Rove as an argument as to why she is the stronger candidate.

There was a great piece today regarding Rove and how he has managed to ruin the Republican party. Though years ago he had great acclaim as the "Architect" the Republican party is in ruin now. It is estimated that many more seats will be lost in this election and the presidency too. (Wish I could remember the link!) Basically that he isn't looked at with fondness by the RNC only by GW! That in the future he may have a job with Fox but not many Rebs running would want him.

Very interesting take. Really interesting that she is the one quoting him.
