On Saturday we ran a post from Todd in Hagåtña, Guam, about the grassroots efforts that are already underway in advance of the May 3rd caucus. Yesterday we heard from Todd again, this time with a story about an unexpected encounter some 6000 miles from home:
This is too weird to believe but it's true. On Friday, I met Barack Obama in Salem, Oregon.
I just got off the plane yesterday morning in Portland and learned that Obama was coincidentally campaigning in Oregon over the next two days. I was too late for the Portland rally, so I headed towards the next scheduled rally in Salem. I got in ... and managed to befriend one of the local bigwigs who, conincidentally, had attenuated ties to Guam.
Next thing I knew, I was shaking hands with the man ... When my turn came, I said, "Senator, I just got off the plane from Guam. I'm so excited to meet you. I can tell you that we're working hard on Guam to make sure you win the May 3 Guam caucus." He said, "Guam?!! Wow, that's a long way (or words to that effect) ... thank you for what you are doing. Say 'hi' to everyone in Guam for me."
... Great energy at the rally; and I was impressed with the Senator's ability to work the crowd and to appear genuinely interested at everyones story — including one from a jet-lagged guy from Guam who just staggered off a plane.
