For many young voters, this campaign has provided their first exposure to politics, and their first chance to realize the difference that they can make in their community and for their country. We've seen unprecedented youth turnout and participation across the country, and in the coming weeks we're looking expand that involvement even further.
In Indiana, we're asking high school students to reach out and help register friends and fellow students to vote in the upcoming Indiana primary.
Every student who collects registration forms for at least 20 of their fellow students will qualify to be picked for the 3-on-3 Challenge. One of the participants will be selected by the campaign to pick two of his or her friends to play Barack Obama in a game of 3-on-3 basketball at their high school.
We didn’t want to leave out Indiana college students though, so joining Barack’s team will be a college student who signs up at least 30 new voters.
Indiana's voter registration deadline is coming up, and anyone who wishes to vote in the Democratic primary and support Barack must be registered by April 7th. In Indiana, anyone who will be 18 by November 4th, 2008 is eligible to vote in the primary on May 6th. That means most high school seniors can register to vote now.
No prior experience is needed. It's easy. Just sign up, download registration forms, and start registering students at your high school to vote.
In order to qualify to play 3-on-3 with Barack, all registration forms must be turned in by April 6th at your local Indiana for Obama office and you must register at least 20 high school students.
As former NCAA Player of the Year, Big Ten all-time leading scorer and Evansville native Calbert Cheaney explained, "High school and college students have been inspired by Barack's message and the possibility that Americans can come together around a leader whose mission it is to bring them together. The Obama campaign has waged an unprecedented effort to engage young people and register them, and young people have returned the attention with countless volunteer hours and precious votes."
If you are a high school student in Indiana, you can sign up now and get started registering new voters for Barack.
If you want to scout the competition, you can check out AOL Sports' recent interview with Barack's brother in law Craig Robinson (head coach of Brown University men’s basketball team) on Barack's basketball skills.
