Earlier today, Barack toured Springs Preserve in Nevada to get a first-hand look at some of the clean energy and energy saving innovations in use there. Nearly a decade of planning went into the Preserve, which was designed to meet Platinum Leadership in Energy Design (LEED) standards for environmentally sustainable construction. The banks of solar panels generate 400kW of electricity, enough to supply 75 Las Vegas homes.
As part of a larger plan for a diversified, clean energy future, Barack has proposed doubling research funding for clean energy projects such as solar power while requiring that 25% of electricity consumed in the U.S. be derived from clean, sustainable energy sources by 2025.
