Waldman did a great job on CNN yesterday.
He made his arguement that innuendo is indeed effective and unfair.
And he did so in a manner that avoided bringing up the specific smears being spread in the book (thus avoiding what the GOP and McCain want, which is free repetition of the smears). I would like to see more Obama supporters handle refutting the attacks in this manner when possible.
One one specific note, there is indeed an 'ad hominem' component, namely that the smears are exactly intended to be about Obama, the person, not a discussion of his policy proposals. In this sense the innuendo is about Obama, aka 'ad hominem'. So both the nut job and Waldman were wrong on that point. However other than that, Waldman was brilliant.
My congratulations for a job well done, Waldman, you handled it very well.

S from Long Beach, CA
Aug 14th 2008 at 9:43 am EDT (Updated Aug 14th 2008 at 9:43 am EDT)
THE REAL AMERICA
Nobody owns America.
Recent attempts to undermine the Obama campaign need to be challenged.
An election is about choice and voting for your choice is more American than any Ad campaign.
Attempts by Republicans and the McCain Campaign to own America and Patriotism are insulting to those millions of Americans across the nation who choose not to vote for him.
The voter who independently chooses to vote with his/her own conscience should not be belittled by the Republican Campaign for choosing not to vote for him. Yet, recent Ads from the McCain Campaign seek to insult anyone who does just that.
Democracy is built upon choice and the dignity of every voter demands that the people, the Real America, be treated with respect.
The McCain strategy has now turned beyond smearing Obama to attacking the voters who support him. The McCain campaign is willing to sideline or marginalize anyone who does not vote for McCain by suggesting that their choice is based solely upon populism, celebrity, even religious fanaticism, and not upon voter integrity. The spin that this is innocent 'fun', as they brand it, is false; it is manipulation through negative propaganda. McCain is very rich, but he does not own America and he has no right to define voters as idiots in an attempt to marginalize them and their candidate.
Someone should stand up in the people's defense and condemn these actions, declaring the disrespect given to voters unrepresentative of American values. Millions of dollars raised by the McCain campaign were done so to promote alternate policies, not be spent on insulting the neighbors and friends of Republican voters who choose not to vote for John McCain.
The time is now for change.
Not just a change in how government is run, but a change in how the Real America, the people, the voters, refuse to be manipulated or bullied by old campaign propaganda tactics. This should become one of the themes of this general election; a refusal by the public to be manipulated by miss-associations, cheap insults and smear campaigns. A rebirth of voter rights to honest debate on policies, not distraction and manipulation. A Stand to Respect the Voter.

I'm mad!
The guy - Corsi also wrote a book in 2004 about Kerry which also was packed full of lies.... and he (Corsi) is basically a nobody with a grudge (or a fear).
What gets me steaming mad is why the MSM is flouting this book. Why this one over say, the Ron Suskind book that came out recently about the lies that Bush told to get us into a war into Iraq. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO O.
I wake up every morning with a headache - just waiting until November. Not good... but then when I wake up more I realize that just because the MSM is saying all this idiotic stuff about Obama, its all for their own ratings.
I have to have faith that a majority of the people in this country are sick and tired of the directin this country has taken and want to see a change. So no matter what the MSM says (Olbermann is exempt from this - he's cool) people will vote despite what the MSM says and I think the numbers against McCain/Bush are going to be huge!
One can only HOPE! Thats what Barack wants us to do! Hope Trumps despair every time!

Snap out of it, Arnaud, now is not the time to be sad; especially about a piece of crap book like this. Brush it off like BO does and continue on with our Campaign of Change. We have folks to register, Media Bombs to send out, petitions to sign, donations to solicit (and BTW, Congratulations O-Nation 2,000,000,000+ people supporting this movement) signs to make, cookies to bake, neigborhoods to canvass and local dems to promote & elect to guarantee a majority in the House & Senate so BO can handle his business the next 8 years. We don't have time to be sad, not for one minute. John Kerry and other surrogates will take care of this. BO's getting ready to rock this world at the DNC in 11 days, he don't need no sadness on the O-Train, just positivism and HOPE, that's what fuels the engine on this train.
If you really want to feel sad, think about this country if McCain wins this election!! See, what I'm saying, too scary to even think about, right?
So Sweetness, know that you have an entire O-Nation behind and when you get a little sad, log on and we'll get you to smiling again because WE are on the move and no books, pundits, GOP or right-wing talk show idiots are gonna bring us down.
Have a great day today!!

Democratic Party leaders announced yesterday that former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner will deliver the keynote address at their national convention in Denver this month, positioning him prominently in a week-long lineup that seeks to pay homage to the party of the past while ushering in a new generation of leaders under Barack Obama.
The choice of Warner appeared to dim chances that the state's current governor, Timothy M. Kaine, would be selected as the Democrats' vice presidential nominee. If Kaine were chosen as Obama's running mate, two Virginians would have back-to-back prime-time speaking slots, a scenario that party officials regard as unlikely.
The convention, which begins Aug. 25, will be studded with old and new faces. Monday will feature a tribute to the Kennedys. On Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) will speak and Warner will deliver his keynote. Wednesday's program will be devoted to military issues and national security, and it will feature Obama's pick for vice president; two front-running vice presidential candidates, Sens. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.) and Evan Bayh (Ind.), have speaking slots that day. Former president Bill Clinton will also appear on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Obama will accept the nomination before some 80,000 people jammed into Invesco Field at Mile High.
Kaine is slated to speak Tuesday, a day devoted to the economy and the environment. Democratic consultant Jenny Backus, a convention organizer, said most of the presumed vice presidential finalists have been booked for speaking slots other than the running mate's. Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, for instance, is on the Tuesday program.
A source close to Kaine said this past Tuesday night -- before yesterday morning's announcement about Warner -- that the governor believed he would "get the silver medal" in the vice presidential sweepstakes. Obama's decision to make security the theme on the night his running mate speaks is regarded by party observers as a subtle hint that Kaine and other governors without foreign policy credentials might be less likely choices.
Kaine had become the subject of intense speculation during the past two weeks, after reports that he provided documents to Obama's campaign and told friends that the conversations about the No. 2 job were "serious."

He also quickly became the focus of sharp Republican attacks. On the day the reports appeared, one GOP source said that an Obama-Kaine ticket would be the "least experienced ticket in the history of the world."
Karl Rove, the former top political aide to President Bush, said on "Face the Nation" this week that Kaine has been "able but undistinguished" and disparaged his qualifications, saying he had only been mayor of the nation's 105th-largest city.
"So if he were to pick Governor Kaine," Rove said, referring to Obama, "it would be an intensely political choice where he said, 'You know what? I'm really not, first and foremost, concerned with, is this person capable of being president of the United States? What I'm concerned about is, can he bring me the electoral votes of the state of Virginia?' "
Although an earlier generation of Democrats will receive recognition at the gathering, convention aides made it clear that the party's page will be turning in Denver.
"This is a new Democratic Party. Yes, the Clinton voices are very important. So are people left over from the Kerry campaign and even John Edwards's supporters. But we're going to show off a new generation of leaders," said a Democratic official close to the organizing.
With Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (Mass.) battling a brain tumor, Monday night's tribute could be an emotional high point, especially if the senator is well enough to speak. But the emphasis will be a comparison of Kennedy's ability to reach out to Republicans to Obama's focus on "post-partisan" politics.
The evening will also spotlight Michelle Obama, who will flesh out her husband's biography. She will be preceded by one of her husband's most trusted surrogates, freshman Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.), and introduced by her brother, Craig Robinson.
Hillary Clinton will get a prime speaking slot Tuesday and is expected to speak of her historic bid to become the first female nominee of a major party, as well as the nation's economic challenges. She will share the stage with Warner, who is running for Senate; Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer; and Sebelius, all of whom could be new faces for voters who last tuned in to Democratic politics in 2004. Warner is expected to stress how he won support in Republican regions of rural Virginia by listening to the needs and struggles of ordinary voters.

Also speaking that night will be Sen. Robert P. Casey Jr. (Pa.), an antiabortion Democrat whose father was denied a speaking slot at Bill Clinton's nominating convention in 1992 because of his opposition to abortion. Casey, who backed Obama over Hillary Clinton in his state's hard-fought primary, is not expected to speak about abortion, but Democrats conceded that his name alone speaks to the issue.
Wednesday's national security theme has stoked speculation that Biden, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will be moving up to the prime-time spot to accept his party's vice presidential nomination. But Bayh also has a speaking spot that day.
One name not on Wednesday's program is former secretary of state Colin L. Powell, who denied speculation yesterday that he will endorse Obama at the convention.
"I am not attending either political convention. As I have said for some time, I know both candidates and I am studying their positions and statements. I have not decided who I will vote for," Powell said in an e-mail to The Washington Post.
Another foreign policy luminary not on Wednesday's program is former New Mexico governor Bill Richardson, who was among the eight Democrats who initially campaigned for this year's presidential nomination. Convention organizers said last night that the final slate of speakers is not complete and that Richardson is likely to make an appearance.
On Thursday, as the convention moves from the indoor Pepsi Center to Mile High, an enormous, open-air football stadium, Democrats will have to balance their desire to spotlight Obama's enthusiastic following with concern that images of a cheering throng will ratify Republican attacks on the candidate as a glitzy but untested celebrity.
"If spectacle is the story or dominant message to come out of the last night, Obama will not maximize the benefits to his campaign," said Democratic pollster Doug Schoen. "He doesn't need soaring rhetoric. He needs a message that focuses on how he will change America and why America cannot afford four more years of failed policies that have weakened our economy and made us less secure around the world."

One Obama aide said much of the program's emphasis will be an acknowledgment of Obama's historical role as the first black major-party nominee, as he accepts that honor on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech in Washington. The stagecraft of that night is still under discussion, and two aides said yesterday that the convention and the campaign will strive to leave an impression of seriousness, not adulation.
The imperative for Obama is keeping expectations low, said Bob Shrum, a senior adviser to the presidential campaigns of Al Gore and John F. Kerry. "To expect to get a big bounce is a mistake," Shrum said, noting that the senator from Illinois, unlike Gore or Kerry, enters the convention with a slim lead.
Salted throughout the program will be testimonials by little-known, young elected officials and some Republicans on how Obama's candidacy has changed them and how he has been changed by his campaign.
Four young House Democrats -- Iraq war veteran Patrick J. Murphy (Pa.); Artur Davis (Ala.); Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.), a Clinton supporter; and Allyson Y. Schwartz (Pa.) -- will be hosts of a telecast for the Internet and high-definition television. And a new "Faith Caucus" will be meeting to try to organize religious voters, who have largely sided with Republicans for nearly three decades.

Want to help Obama? Pre-order his new book which comes out in September. All proceeds go to charity.
At this defining moment in our history, Americans are hungry for change. After years of failed policies and failed politics from Washington, this is our chance to reclaim the American dream. Barack Obama has proven to be a new kind of leader–one who can bring people together, be honest about the challenges we face, and move this nation forward. Change We Can Believe In outlines his vision for America.
In these pages you will find bold and specific ideas about how to fix our ailing economy and strengthen the middle class, make health care affordable for all, achieve energy independence, and keep America safe in a dangerous world. Change We Can Believe In asks you not just to believe in Barack Obama’s ability to bring change to Washington, it asks you to believe in yours.

For once, McCain has a positive ad about himself. It seems his strategy was to attack Obama and create doubts about him, then bring positive ads about himself. The impact becomes greater if the earlier ads create negative opinion about his opponent.
It will be interesting to see what McShame does next. Whatever he shows is often a lie, one way or the other.

No kidding. I hadn't heard anything about them before but it was a string of parts of speeches, some before small gatherings, some with large crowds and normal everyday people talking about why they are supporting Obama. Then there are several 'how to' sign up with the campaign instructions. I was so pleased that we're on ALL the time.
Has anyone else seen them? It was on about 3:00 am here in Texas on a cable channel.

Of course, they normally used Gallup because it had the race close, but lately Obama has moved to a 6pt lead. Since that was to much, they are now using the PEW poll because it only has a 3pt lead for Obama.
They are pathetic and it just shows how much they are rooting for that old geezer McBush. We will still win but its good to know what we are up against. The MSM is fighting hard for McBush but I think 2million strong will make the difference.

Ditto here on seeing the program and wondering why the Pew poll was used when we had NEVER seen it mentioned before; this while the daily tracking poll has been at a steady 5 percent, higher than the average over the summer. This isn't Schuster, this is the MSM talking points. They are part of what is wrong with this country and another example of corporate influence in daily life. It stinks and with a different set of values and a different strategic vision, hopefully these pariahs will have less influence in the future. Just one other reason to support Obama.

There have been many sleazy books written about politicians -- and no matter how you want to excuse them, they do have an impact. What amazes me is that Mary Matalin promotes this book as a piece of "scholarship"!! How can James Carville stay married to her? I cannot even imagine the firewall that must exist in that marriage. This is a hit piece, pure and simple. The number of sales is directly related to the bulk purchases of right wing organizations who then turn around and distribute these books free to their constituents. Being #1 on the NY Times list is nothing more than sales and if you have the money, you can promote anything. Will the Democrats do the same for Obama's own new book, out in the Fall? Are we as mean as the Republicans?

I just donated to Obama for the first time today. Right now, they're trying to get as many people as possible to give $5 or more to the campaign. We are no longer helpless against the Republican smear machine. Give to Obama's campaign so that we can change the tone in this country.

Obama's new book comes out in September and he's donating all proceeds to charity.
A bunch of us starting pre-ordering it yesterday. It's called "Change We Can Believe In".
Here's the description:
Pre-order now. It's less than $9. Let's get him to number 1 on the bestseller list legitimately.

Could Colin Powell endorse Barack?
Former national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski tells the Huffington Post that he "expects" Gen. Colin Powell to endorse Barack Obama for president.
Late Wednesday afternoon, the political world skipped a heartbeat when Fox pundit and eminent neoconservative Bill Kristol predicted that former Gen. Colin Powell would endorse Barack Obama, and even potentially speak at the Democratic National Convention.
In response to an emailed question, Brzezinski agreed with Kristol about the endorsement, writing simply: "I sort of expect he [Powell] will."
Though he worked for President Carter, Brzezinski keeps close relations with the "realist" camp of Republican foreign policy heavyweights like Bush 41 adviser Brent Scowcroft, who also worked with Powell. The Huffington Post reported earlier that Scowcroft has decided to stay neutral in the presidential race instead of taking the more expected route and explicitly backing McCain.
UPDATE: A spokeswoman for Powell denies strongly that he will be at either convention, though seems to have stopped short of closing the door entirely on an Obama endorsement.

Oprah Winfrey, one of Barack Obama's best-known supporters, plans to be on the field when Obama accepts the Democratic presidential nomination at Mile High Stadium in Denver, but an associate says Winfrey will have no stage role.
Good friend and colleague Gayle King told Entertainment Tonight that Winfrey will be in the audience of 75,000 people on the presidential nomination night of Aug. 28, but expects no starring role in the historic event.
"Oprah has not been asked to introduce him, is not expecting to be asked to introduce him and I would doubt that she would want to introduce him,'' King said. "She thinks this is his moment. I know that she is planning to be there."
King will be in Denver as well. She will take her Oprah and Friends XM Radio program on the road and broadcast live from the convention starting Monday, Aug. 25. King appears regularly on Oprah, is Editor-At-Large of O, The Oprah Magazine and host of The Gayle King Show on Oprah and Friends, channel 156 on XM satellite radio.
She told ET: "I've been to Democratic conventions before, but I've never felt the way I'm feeling now about going to this convention. I think we have a chance to make history."

Many Catholics believe this, and this platform on abortion could be powerful in bringing in more Catholic voters.

My mother who is 77 years old and very prolife no matter the circumstance would not vote republican only for that one issue. Actually her answer to me when I said to her that I know who you are voting for because Obama is pro choice she responded that although she is pro life she doesn't believe government has the right to decide what a women does with her body. Thank you for sharing this. I don't know much about the Catholic faith first hand but this reminded me that there is also a proposal being considered to broaden the definition of abortion, i.e., change the definition to include certain types of birth control, making it illegal to take the pill, use an IUD, etc. Unfortunately, I am at work now and the information is on my lap top at home. If anyone wants a link to the article/information, just send me a note and I'll send it to you.

Shelley, that is a very important women's issue - the fact that the Republican Party has been quietly increasing the definition of abortion to include methods of birth control. It's gone way beyond Roe v. Wade. Women need to know this, and vote accordingly.

Yesterday, Joe Biden sent out his 2nd Email since dropping out of the Race after Iowa. It was about his article in the Financial Times regarding Russia/Georgia:
Link
Coincidence to be on the brink of a VP announcement? The only way Obama can lose is by Americans feeling safer with McCain as they did with Bush vs. Kerry after Osama bin Laden appeared.
Its hard to believe that Biden would do this without permission from Obama.
Joe's appearances, like the other VP prospects are all approved by Team Obama. He made numerous appearance in late May and mid July. He has been keeping under the radar since then, although the media reported that he has been vetted.
It was also accidentally hinted by Sebelius that the VP will be a Natl. Security person.
That means Biden or Bayh with Clark, Reed and maybe Dodd as only other possibilities.
Obama could finish his vacation today with a Bang if he announced Biden later on, followed by a joint appearance tomorrow AM
With the Olympics in progress, there is no perfect time. However, when this Thurs/Friday AM strategy was done with the Bill Richardson endorsement in Portland, Obama got continuous coverage for days and a nice bump in the polls.
The advantage for announcing today is that Obama is hurting with McCain taking advantage of the Georgian crisis, but mostly because it would give more time to settle the problems with the Clinton people at the Convention.
There could be more joint Clinton(s) appearances next week with Obama/Biden and a "standing down" by Hillary to her supporters.
The media wants disruption at the Convention. Naming Biden this week could be the beginning of Unity for Democrats.

I'm on their list in Delaware:
Dear Cheryl,
I'm sure you have been following the disturbing news regarding Russia's aggressive military tactics in Georgia, begun during the start of the Olympic Games. I wanted to make sure you were the first to read Joe's take on the situation.
Joe penned an op-ed on Georgia for the second time since April, this one in the Financial Times – just now up on their website. In it, titled "Russia Must Stand Down," he outlines the potential consequences of Russia's actions:
By acting disproportionately with a full scale attack on Georgia and seeking the ouster of Georgia's democratically elected President Mikheil Saakashvili, Moscow is jeopardizing its standing in Europe and the broader international community – and risking very real practical and political consequences...
Joe identifies what the next steps need to be for all parties involved and clearly summarizes what we could be facing if things do not change – fast:
The only hope for preventing this crisis from becoming a calamity for Russia's relationship with the west is for Moscow to immediately ceasefire, pull back its forces and agree to negotiations brokered by the international community – all steps that the Georgian government has agreed to. If the fighting continues, this moment could emerge as a turning point in the west's relationship with Moscow, and deny Russia the international standing it seeks. That is not the future the United States or Europe want – but it is the future Russia may get if it does not stand down and live up to its responsibilities as a force for progress.
Read the full op-ed here.
Once again, Joe and Senator Lugar of Indiana were ahead of the curve on this critical issue. In April, they wrote an op-ed in the Washington Times that highlighted what a crucial region of the world this is. In that piece, "Stand up for Georgia," they said:
Georgia has done its part by refusing to overreact and continues to seek a diplomatic solution. The time has come for the trans-Atlantic community to show unity and commitment.
You can read their remarks in full here.
As always, please do not hesitate to share your opinions on this or anything else that matters to you. We appreciate hearing from you. I'll continue to pass along Joe's thoughts on this developing situation.
Sincerely,
Valerie Biden Owens (I believe his sister...)

I fully agree!
Biden is THE ONE with THE True 35 Experience that everyone is crying about! He is the Man for our Foreign Policy like no other!
I don't buy this 2 senator on a ticket not good--what when you have a BIDEN! He will have John for breakfast and still have room to eat his oatmeal!
He beats out all contenders hands down in my book.
However our BO-Team figures it out, Biden WILL Be at the TOP of the Cabinet! Biden will figure in!
No doubt about that!
I believe Barack will have the best of the best beside him in this new office! Biden was always about Change and has dared where no one else dared! And OMG is he freaking hysterically bright!
I just loved watching him recite and weave with aplomb metaphorical nuances during Committee Hearings! He has a killer photographic memory. The wry humor alone will buckle any opponent. Problem is he can be rather too cerebral--but then again he has that surprise raw bite that will level them all..
I'm a Biden groupie!
Because he cares and can work both sides of the isle without serious obligation to any special interest group. He is a Ted Kennedy in my world!
Anyone here go on for the TEXT messages from the Campaign for the VP news?

In wake of shooting, is it safe to be liberal?
Unitarian pastor questions ‘fundamentalist values’
By Rob Cullivan
The Gresham Outlook, Aug 5, 2008,
On July 27, Jim D. Adkisson, 58, reportedly entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tenn., with a 12-gauge shotgun and allegedly took the life of Greg McKendry, 60, who had tried to stop him from shooting.
Another congregant, Linda Kraeger, 61, died later from wounds inflicted by the suspected shooter.
According to several reports, Adkisson now stands accused of opening fire during a children’s play at the church, wounding four women and three men, and killing McKendry and Kraeger. A letter Adkisson allegedly wrote, left behind in his SUV, stated he targeted the church members because he hated “the liberal movement” and “gays.”
...
In response to the tragedy, the Rev. David Maynard, pastor of Eastrose Fellowship Unitarian Universalist Church in Gresham, wrote a letter to the editor of The Gresham Outlook. The letter raised issues The Outlook wanted to explore further.
Maynard’s letter reads as follows:
“As a Unitarian Universalist (UU) minister, I take the murder of two parishioners at our sister UU church in Knoxville, Tenn., very seriously.
...
I’ve never heard of ‘liberals’ taking up arms and shooting random people in public. All too often I’ve heard of unhealthy persons espousing fundamentalist values wreaking just that kind of havoc. Liberals are more likely to teach peace than wielding a gun.
...
I hope we never lose that courage of our convictions that making a better world for all is our collective responsibility.”

They are trying to rid the country of people who do not share their extremist ideas. To that extent let's call them what they are "TERRORISTS". They are no better than Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda. The far right media helped to perpetuate this insanity with their constant ranting and deep seated hatred towards the opposition. Rush & Hannity have become America's Al Jazeera. Hello Rene! and BO-Friends!
Now is a time that I need you to come and join this Group: From Divide to Unity for Obama--August 23.
Please take a look at the group which is actually about a timely event from Divide, Montana to Unity, New Hampshire. Bill & Dixie Johnson are going across country with their Obama Cart through rural areas in cities that may be on your route. We already have a good start in publicity and of course will try to garner more for their week long adventure!
I am asking you my BO-Friends to join the group as cheerleaders and stay tuned for this event! Check out and see if your enroute and even if you are not we still need you! I found a brand new US citizen to sponsor the trip! I want to show our support in cheerleading, etc.
Group site:

One specific publicity:

This is probably one of the few events I will ask of you to assist me with as I will most likely crash after this one....!
Anyone willing to host the Johnson's for a night enroute and wish to make their own event around the BO-cart with neighbors are most welcome to let us know about that.
I know I haven't heard from many of you in a long while and that we are all so incredibly busy especially now and many of us are deep with doing things for this campaign while juggling our family and work, yet I sincerely hope to hear from you and help me stay busy with positive things (instead of some of my unhealthy rants of you know who of past!)
As an incentive if you join the Group I will send my full collection of BO-Marks to print...no donations cajoled...on this offer!
I feel extremely blessed to know you all have become BO-Friends to me and have enjoyed all of your diversed expressed opinions and have learned from all of you! It occurs to me that one reason we BO-Friend is to call upon each other to rally around and that is my plea!
I need your Obama spirit.
Besitos y Paz,
Cheryl in Boston
PS: I know some of you have already joined sorry about this as a repeat, help blog this to your groups and friends!

My Daily Post.....
Senator Obama, I pray for you, your campaign staff, and your supporters. You are up against a great degree of hatred and irrational behavior. People are willing to toss their “religious” beliefs aside and do whatever it takes to see you defeated. Some are praying for rain of biblical proportion, not to aid with drought or to cool the hazy hot temperature, but to disrupt your convention speech. As they use prayer for evil purposes, I pray for your health, strength, God’s guidance and wisdom. I pray for you to overcome this evil with good.
Some are boldly telling lies about you. Even Lieberman is out attacking your patriotism.
Many are mocking you as “the one” even as you humble yourself to the will of God. I pray that you remain courageous in the face of all this criticism. You are using the gifts and talents God has given you. Maybe if they used the talent God has given them, maybe they can also become “the one.”
You are like a mirror into their dark soul. They look at you and they see how small minded they are, how selfish they have been, how much they have wasted their years in DC doing nothing to secure the country or help the middle class. Instead of facing their demonic tendencies, they are in denial.
The haters are trying to break you. They are trying to cover you in their falsehoods. On the night of November 4th, they will have to face the facts and begin the process of serious self examination. The process will begin the first time they hear the words “President Elect Barack Obama”., and realize those words just came out of their mouths. I pray that God grant you that honor.
I pray that you remain true to yourself, true to your conscience, true to your ideals of America and its role in the lives of ordinary citizens.
I leave you with these words, “No Weapon formed against you shall prosper.”
Thank you for all you do to use your talents for good. May God’s peace remain in your heart and may he guide your every step.

Thanks Monica!
I rather figure anyone who has their hands deep in the pockets of the Military Industrial Complex (wag the dog wars for profit/oil/riches, etc.) are getting extremely nervous. I dare say these political "enemies" are not truly rascist or believe BO is anti-patriotic, etc. They are Capialtists to the degree of an incurable cancer and rather will Use rascism and patriotism as a fear mongering stick upon the ignorant public--that our society has cleverly kept in great masses in order to control every four years!
Barack Obama has us see that we are the ones we have been waiting for! We need to keep our senses open and read between the lines and call foul when it stinks out there! And this time make those changes or we truly will pay the price for allowing ourselves to be duped on all the important issues that the GOP will continue to bring to ruin and many with no escape clause . The age of innocence is long gone!
I digress, but keep your good daily prayer going and let us make sure we get BO elected! Many of us are pooped and in trouble with our day jobs and physical condition from this long and difficult campaign. Yet we do continue to have each other to keep us constantly energized and full of hope--because of the very fact of having each other! That is our true blessing! The GOP does not have a true cohesive base like everyday Obama supporters! They have their machine, but we have BO-Friend Power! And so far it has worked.
So let us continue to do that list! Donate, Call, Join, Knock, Talk, Event and Donate again!
And this Group Event for all of us is Timely! All Welcome!

McCain's campaign relies on lobbyists, group asserts
A campaign finance watchdog group that has been going after John McCain's campaign and its lobbyist connections reported yesterday that his staffers, advisers, and top fund-raisers have received nearly $1 billion from domestic lobbying clients over the past decade.
Campaign Money Watch, whose findings McCain's campaign has challenged, also said that employees and political action committees of the clients have donated nearly $12 million to McCain's campaigns over the years.
"The McCain campaign relies on big-money lobbyists, and they'll rely on him," said David Donnelly, director of Campaign Money Watch, which also launched a website to focus more attention on McCain's lobbyists.

Figure in Abramoff case raising funds for McCain
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. - A political strategist tied to the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal is helping raise money for John McCain, urging his fellow Georgia Republicans to attend a fund-raiser in Atlanta on Monday.
Ralph Reed, former director of the Christian Coalition, touted himself as a member of McCain's "Victory 2008 Team" in an e-mail that solicited donations on McCain's behalf. The Republican National Committee is hosting the event.
A House investigative committee in 2006 found Reed interceded with the Bush White House to help some of Abramoff's clients.

I think Biden is the guy. He's the only one that I think can excite the party as Obama's VP. What a great ticket and Biden, always right on foreign relations, a real brainiac. Perfect! And I think he would be a great supporter of Obama and hit hard. Real gravitas in my opinion.

Wouldn't expect any announcement until Barack is back on the mainland which is on Friday. I'm wondering if a "media blowout" is possible next Wednesday when the July fund raising report is due at the FEC. Announce record fund raising and the Veep. We'll see what happens, but I have to hand it to all involved. While McCain may have been in the Navy, it's this campaign that knows the meaning of "loose lips sink ships"!

Not exactly Joe;
The way it works is announcement is "leaked" the day before, so it makes the 6 O'clock News.
Obama could return on Friday and go straight to a place where he would meet Biden and have a public appearance and maybe set up a larger event for later in the day.
Nothing is ideal with the Olympics, however, there are advantages to get this over with this week in terms of bringing Unity to the Convention sooner than later.

I like Biden too, makes sense since the theme at the convention the day of the VP speech is national security.
He is a great choice, older, experience and willing to be blunt.

“This is not 1968…where Russia can threaten a neighbor; occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it. Things have changed.”
Those are the words of US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice. Similar words were uttered by George Bush and Senator McCain.
Oh how ironic!
What is the difference between what Russia is doing and what we did to Iraq?
Did the three people above just found religion or does that statement applies to eveyone except America?
Did they not set an example that Russia is now following?
When America cedes its moral authority and act like the bully this is the kind of consequences we have to deal with. Rogue nations are following our lead.
What Russia is doing is wrong in much the same way that what America did to Iraq was wrong. Both countries have hot headed people in critical positions of government who are more obsessed with their self interest than with what is best for their country and citizens. To them Diplomacy is a dirty word, so they hide behind weapons and brave soldires.
President Bush was right. He looked into Putin’s eyes and saw his soul. Interpretation…...Bush saw himself in Putin.

All the overseas supporters can order Obama's new book coming out in September. All proceeds go to charity. We are trying to get him to #1 on the best seller list.
A bunch of us starting pre-ordering it yesterday. It's called "Change We Can Believe In".
Here's the description:
Pre-order now. It's less than $9. Let's get him to number 1 on the bestseller list legitimately.

The Democratic Party of Arkansas is devastated by the tragic loss of our chairman, Bill Gwatney. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family, and all those he touched in his life. Bill Gwatney was our friend, our party's leader, and so many times our party's conscience. Our state and our party are better for all that Bill Gwatney has done. Tonight the officers and staff of the DPA ask all of you to keep Senator Gwatney's family close to your heart.
Out of respect for the family and the staff of the DPA, the office will be closed until Monday.
Below is a statement from Governor Mike Beebe.
GOVERNOR BEEBE'S STATEMENT ON THE DEATH OF BILL GWATNEY
"Arkansas has lost a great son, and I have lost a great friend. There is deep pain in Arkansas tonight because of the sheer number of people who knew, respected and loved Bill Gwatney. Along with thousands of other Arkansans, Ginger and I are trying to come to terms with such a shocking and senseless attack. We ask all Arkansans to keep the Gwatney family in your thoughts and prayers." -- Governor Mike Beebe

The Clintons are clearly trying to derail Obama. I don't understand how anybody can't see that.
Bill Clinton intentionally would not say that Obama is qualified to be president.
Hillary Clinton intentionally is stirring up trouble among a small group of women encouraging them to demonstrate and picket at the convention.
These are horrible self-absorbed people and what you need to understand is the Clintons believe if they don't stop this Obama train now it's over for them.
Once Obama becomes president the Clintons will never again have the opportunity to run the party or the country.

It is so good to get up in the morning and get a call from an Obama supporter, it just made my day then I logged on and saw all you beautiful peeps talking about me and now I feel even better.

Given what facts? Continued tax breaks to corporations that take jobs overseas? Tax breaks for the highest income bracket (which has been in place and has not stimulated the economy...no trickle down effect); no trade regulations that protect American jobs; no new energy jobs or infrastructure development. Sorry, McCain HAS no economic plan but what we're in and that ain't working.

Explain what you mean by worse with Obama? You just write a sentence without justification. For example, I can say "you are a troll", but I don't have any justification so I could be wrong, therefore, I will not say it. You said, "no im saying i think we will do worse with obama", what do you mean? Convince me. I am open for any conversation you might have, but not just only a sentence or a phrase. Thanks.

Allida Black, a George Washington University historian said she cashed in her retirement savings to finance travel to 14 states for Clinton.
I googled her name and found this
Link
This woman is a PHD, obviously brilliant and has written many books which are listed. I was wondering why anyone would cash in their retirement savings, but now realize she'll be fine with all the revenues on her books.
I don't truly care if Hillary's supporters are able to get a little recognition/satisfaction by placing her name in nomination, if it's done as a tribute to the first viable woman candidate for the presidency and for no other reason.
However, I don't expect the PUMA nut jobs to be nice at all at the convention. Yes, we all know that Faux News and others in the MSM will be looking for trouble and exploit it for all it's worth.
Some of Clinton's supporters are circulating a petition to put her name in nomination. Democratic Party rules require the signatures of 300 delegates, with no more than 50 coming from a single state. The rules also require that the candidate sign the petition. Whether Clinton will do so is now under negotiation with Obama.
"She's in a dicey position," Hildebrand said. "She's got a lot of people who worked incredibly hard for her, who dedicated their lives to her mission, her candidacy and who are very passionate about this."
One of those supporters is Allida Black, a George Washington University historian who said she cashed in her retirement savings to finance travel to 14 states for Clinton. Black, a Clinton delegate from Virginia, is helping circulate the nominating petition.
"This is not a spite Obama effort," she said. "This is for Hillary to get the respect her campaign merits."

what if she was given the same respect that she gave Obama when they were rivals? Would they consider that fair?
No, they are not interested in fair!

From Huff. Unreal.
In negotiations this summer with Obama's campaign, Clinton's team did not ask for Clinton's name to be submitted.
"But within the past week, Clinton advisers informed the Obama team that many of Clinton's staunchest supporters felt strongly that something had to be done, and that Clinton had concluded that, in part for the sake of unity, their wishes ought to be respected. They heard back immediately: the Obama campaign had always been open to having her name placed in nomination alongside his."

If this happens, I can only hope that Obama wins by a bigger margin than he actually won in the primaries (with people moving over to him) or that Clinton gets her head screwed on right and removes her name before the vote. Regardless, I hope the whole affair will end the Clinton political legacy, once and for all. It's time to move on.

JJ...Historic yes, but his name being included in the "roll call" far different in its implications and ramifications.
Bill and Hillary and Chelsea already have 2 nights virtually to themselves yet neither of them have yet to lift a finger in support of O.
Now Charlie Rangel is demanding a speaking spot (more "for unity" baloney) though it's being reported that the O team has told him to get at the back of the line!
"Obama Snubs Rangel at Convention."
Link
PUMA is organizing "Nobama," "Just say no to the coronation" rallies, TV ads demeaning O. This is not about unity, and it will only serve to further empower HC and her supporters and cause further division IMO.
This is not the Clinton's convention, though it appears to be turning out to being close to that.

Windfall profits tax is AS reasonable as a GAS TAX HOLIDAY that your brilliant candidate recommended. Both won't happen. Obama has a comprehenisve energy plan that actually creates jobs; requires higher gas mileage (for which he went to the car companies and told them they needed to get started now)and unlike your candidate that pandered to the oil companies and told them he'll give them everything they want; and just saying Obama has foreign policy contradictions doesn't make it a fact. There are no contradictions in his policies but if you think like your candidate in black and white, we WILL be at war for the next 4 years. Your candidate knows NOTHING BUT war. So, while I would consider modifications based on the facts, I would rather have that than war as the first answer for every conflict.
If you want to remain on the blog without getting bombed, you need to cite facts and examples; otherwise, you'll be treated like most in your camp who just use labels and spew rants.

The week of August 25th through the 28th, anytown, USA can participate in the biggest fundraising week ever for the Obama campaign. I am asking all to bombard the campaign with our dollars for this historical week. With Barack Obama being the first African American to formally accept the democratic nomination for President and on Dr. King's 45th anniversary of I Have a Dream speech and on the day Hillary Clinton is to speak, August 26th, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby certified the ratification of women's voting rights 88 years ago to that date. Be a part of history in the making. Together, we can change America.

However, today I saw a PUMA power sign and I almost screamed! So please help me understand. I know that PUMA's love Clinton, but do they really blame Obama? What did he do to you? Did he cheat or something? Do you care more about Clinton than the overall Democratic agenda? How will they feel if McCain is in office and they go through another 4 years of agony all because they wanted to prove a point? Are they really that selfish and stupid? Well I can tell you that there was one LONE PUMA Picklehead at the Birthday Boston Fundrasier where Obama raised 5 million.
I was interviewed by WBUR/NPR that day on the Plaza with a dear friend who was a HRC supporter for want of the dichotomy in friendships in this campaign and the work that BO supporters still need to do with just family and friends. The reporter went to interview the PUMA-head and she spewed such vomit on him that he came back to where we were and announced he will NOT be using her points in his assignment as she was just completely crazy with no true point to make whatsoever! So there are at least some responsible journalists out there protecting us from PUMA!
The PUMA lonecase was a hair away from physically attacking an Obama supporter who went to the fundraiser! HUGE local Bodyguards moved in so fast that the PUMA case turned ashen! HA
I still insist HRC was suppose to at least come out publicly and denounce that group even if she had nothing originally to do with them, she eggs them on by not distancing herself from their wrath on Obama! But I do believe they are Democrats to begin with, rather I believe they are not Voters to begin with! They are not voters! They are extremists looking for a cause!--i.e., attention!
They are so ugly and obtuse that no one can even use them on TV because they just vomit caca! That is a good thing!

First of all, many of the so called PUMA's are Republicans who are more interested in starting trouble.
Second, Hillary used every excuse she could come up with including the rules were not fair, the Superdelegates should have been endorsing her, etc, and encouraged her supporters to believe that she was somehow cheated out of the nomination. She was running as the 'inevitable' candidate, after all.
Some of them are ticked because they thought it was fine for Hillary to come out and attack Obama, but somehow forgot it was politics and that Obama wasn't going to lie down and get walked on. That is what seem to resent the most!

The really sorry bunch I have no respect or tolerance for are those authentic (in that they really support Clinton but there's nothing authentic about them as responsible, intelligent human beings) Clinton supporters supposed "feminists" who don't know how to accept her loss and would rather blame everything and everyone else for her failure than accept it and move on.
I also believe some of them are just evil and racist scum.

I have pretty much ignored the PUMA's so I don't really know.
This is how I feel. During the primary I swore I would stay at home if HRC was the nominee. I was very angry with the way she ran her campaign. Well, now that some time has passed I have had time to reflect and I realize that I would have ended up voting for HRC had she been the nominee. The other choice would have been completely unacceptable and I could not do that to my country.
So I don't know who these PUMA's are and I cannot begin to understand what they are thinking.

Dumbledore: "It is more difficult to forgive someone for being right than for being wrong."
Obama beat Clinton without going negative, and all of Hillary's negativity couldn't stop it. Because he was smarter, because he was more positive, because he was right, some people (I know, living in Arkansas) cannot forgive him (her defeat exposes her flaws).
BTW PUMA (as an organization) is clearly a GOP trick.

Sunja;
You are all over the place in your arguement. About the windfall tax, I think it is fair to ask the companies that made record profit to give back some of it to the middle class population who are in a lot of hradship right now. This is America, nobody will take your money if you have too much of it, this never happened before and it wont happen now or ever. As for importing too much foreign oil, that is what we are doing right now isn't it? Am I wrong? What Barack was saying is let's use our natural resources more (like wind, the solar energy, the thermal enery...etc) and try to limit and finally eliminate foreign imports of oil, I don't think you will disagree with that based on your statement. Lets increase the production of hybrid cars, lets expand the electric national grid system so that we can charge our electric cars anywhere in the country and avoid using foreign or domestic oil (we are really adicted to those right now), lets expand the internet so that rural households will also enjoy the use of it just like the rest of us. I am sure there are a lot of initiatives in the "Issues" or "Learn" of this site that you will agree with, the only thing required from you is to read. If you read you may be happy with BO's plan for this country as I do. I will not judge anybody because of disagreements, however, I have some issues with people who just say things without knowing both sides. I don't think that is healthy, we do not want to repeat the 2000, 2004 dissaster anymore. Lets make an educated decision this time. Thanks.

Possibly, intelligent young people. It allows them to feel smug to think they are smarter than someone else (they don't support McCain either, they are "above" the system, or are Ron Paul supporters).
Our response to them is this: your attitude reveals that you are the ones taken in, by negative ads. Exactly one of two people will be the next president; experience shows it will make a difference; choose a vision of the future.

One in particular, but I don't know his name. Because what they thought Obama's economic plan would do to the US economy, they used to Hate him! They thought he was a nut case for wanting to tax on big oil. Well, I guess economists are taking another or should I say, a closer more in detailed look at Obama's plan and with some more explaining from Goolsbee, they seem to have a change of heart. Turns out Obama's play isn't as bad as they thought it would be, in fact, it's better. Goolsbee said that it's what Obama's plan has been all along, people just weren't "listening". Did anyone else see it this morning?

As an Obama suporter I am so disappointed with the campaign in July and August. The commercials are boring and visually forgettable. Once again the Republican ads drill home a message into the brain through repetition and simplicity. "Obama is just a celebrity. he is not ready to lead." What message do Obama's ads drill into the brain.....I forgot. Ever 4 years we have the same republican playbook and the same weak sorry response from democrats. What happened to national healthcare and our jobs being shipped overseas and the death of the middle class. Pick one of these issues and bang it home. Then attack Mccain so often in a commercial that is all people think about. Not much time left to change course.

"Fox News has been taken down several notches, and the demotions can be traced back to the blogger-led debate boycott from 2007 and the repercussions it set off.
The point of that media pushback was to begin chipping away, in a serious, consistent method, at Fox News' reputation. The goal was to portray Fox News as illegitimate, to spell out that Fox News was nothing more than a Republican mouthpiece and that Democrats need not engage with the News Corp. giant, let alone be afraid of it.
In other words, bloggers wanted to badly dent the Fox News brand."

The enthusiasim that will flow from the convention combined with the effect of the debates that will follow will paint such a clear and distinct contrast between the candidates that those with an open mind will no longer harbor any doubts as to who should be the next POTUS and many of those who have made up thier minds to support Barack at the polls but who haven't yet become engaged will be rining phones and knocking doors.

I am scared that this vacation may take quite a long time to recover from - it seems that all one hears about is McCaine McCaine McCaine / I am hoping against hope that the VEEP choice is brilliant but now it seems it will be Biden which makes no sense because he IS a Washington insider...MAYBE Wesley Clark ... who knows - I am frustrated once again.....oh well --

by this Obamanation book, we had better wake up and respond and respond with authority or Barack will be following in the footsteps of John Kerry. We need an attack dog as VP, not a wuss like Evan Bayh, we need Biden or Clark.

I am proud to be one of the not-so-few who have donated and volunteered for Barack's campaign. My first time for ANY political campaign. thanks to the campaign team who run the website and the blog posters who, on a daily basis, inform, support and reinvigorate me to work for Change.

Hi Obama friends,
Just checking in, it's been a while. I really hope OB goes up in the polls, this is silly season with Mac trying to "sharpen" his image...and his attacks. Things have to step up on our end, somehow.
I'm dealing with major illness, got a C-diag this week and have been in hospital last week. More of that soon and surgery, unfortunately. I don't have a laptop, though and since I have a blood clot in my leg, can't sit here long at all.
Hope to be back soon, but I want GOOD news on the campaign front! Sorry, I haven't updated my space in a while. But I miss you guys.

The Fall '08 College semester is starting in many states very soon (mid - late August). Please email to EVERYONE in your address book and ask them to do the same.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: College students
We must remind all college students that IF they are away from home attending college on election day, they must be registered to vote at THEIR LEGAL RESIDENCES.
If they are still registered at home, THEY MUST OBTAIN an absentee ballot and mail it EARLY to their home state. A first class stamp is required.
IF THEY NOW LEGALLY RESIDE IN THE STATE OF THEIR COLLEGE, they have to change their voter registration to their current address (away at college) BY FILLING OUT A NEW VOTER REGISTRATION APPLICATION and *** RENEWING THEIR DRIVER'S LICENSE WITH THEIR NEW ADDRESS.
***Driver's License ADDRESS changes, in SOME states, MAY not be necessary. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR INDIVIDUAL STATE.
A lot of college students wait until the last minute to make the necessary changes and consequently are unable to vote.
Please pass this along to all college age students.
NOTE: This IMPORTANT REMINDER will be posted on most threads over the next few months.
Thanks all,
Bonnie

While on vacation last week with family from Texas and PA...talked to family retirees who believe that Obama is a Muslim and that his election means a Caliphate? Their proof? See all the mosques going up around the nation. Also, they believe Obama means to socialize health care (and government). Kids, you've got to get more of those under 60s out there registered to vote so we can overwhelm the oldsters who like to stew in their fear, but worst of all, who like to get out and vote.

Congratulations to Obama, his team, and all of us! Some days seem brighter than others, and despite all of the hardship that we Americans are going through, I feel like Obama and his message of change is beginning to slowly resonate with Americans.
As an aside, at one point I saw an abbreviation that caught my attention on this site. I was asked to log into my.Bo. Ummm... I would rather not log into my bo, thank you very much. I think my.barackobama is better. No abbreviations.
