With just over two months left until Election Day, people are fired up in their support for Barack Obama and the new direction he promises to bring to America. They're getting involved in a variety of ways to help secure a better future for this country. Below, some supporters share with us why they are so eager for change in Washington:Mark in Colorado:
I'm a physician who daily sees the effects of social injustice in our country. As a country, we've become far too complacent and comfortable with the inequities in our midst, particularly in health care. I am excited to see this country galvanized by a message that recognizes the common good as at least equal to individual advancement. I am thrilled to back a candidate who has committed to lead America back to its founding commitments - that we are all created equal. I am hopeful that America will take this opportunity to regain our commitments to ensure that every American has an equal opportunity to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Pierre in New York:
To put it plainly, I'm tired of the way our country is currently thought of by the world. Over the last seven years we've gone from a respected world leader to a nation that is all too often mistrusted and derided by the international community. It's time we reclaimed our role as champions of Democracy and brokers of progress, brotherhood and understanding. It's time for a change.
John in Texas:
I see the politics of fear raising its ugly head once again, and I want something different for my three grandchildren. After reading Dreams from My Father, I am convinced that Barack Obama is the president we need to lead this country in a different direction. He has the experience of seeing the world from other points of view, from the eyes of common people, not simply through the filters of embassies and Green Zones. I think he has the experience from his own life to bring people of different backgrounds together. That's why I choose to be part of this movement for change.
Kerry from Connecticut:
Barack Obama has shown another side of America to the wider world, and has restored a sense of pride to myself and to many other Americans living abroad. I am recently married, and my husband and I plan to return to the States to start our family and raise our children. I hope to raise my family in an America that is governed by an intelligent, compassionate and progressive government that reflects the better virtues of my country. I believe that helping to elect Barack Obama is the best way to ensure that the America we return to is the home we want for our family.
David in Colorado:
As an ordained minister, I see first hand how change can be difficult. I believe Barack Obama has what it takes for faithful changes in Washington. We live in an ever-changing culture and it's refreshing to see a candidate not only recognize this, but act on it.
Stuart in California:
I am a former Republican, now an Independent. As a country we need to work together to solve the serious problems of our country. I am tired of the same old politics, and believe that Barack Obama is genuine in his approach to work with the other side and not rely on character assassination. Plus, we need a Democrat that can stick to a budget and protect the country. I want my children to have peace, clean water, a good environment, good education, good career opportunities and a government that uses all of its resources wisely. I believe Barack can deliver.
Sam in New York:
I'm a 17-year-old who's grown up under the Bush Administration and is ready for change. When I go to college in two years, I want to do so knowing that others my age will have the same opportunities that I do. When I start to look for a career, I want to do so with the benefit of a strong and robust economy. The thought of four more years of the same terrifies me, that's why I want to do what I can to give this country a chance again. I'm one year too young to vote, so the November that I look forward to is not only this coming one, when voters will put our country back on the right track, but also November 2012, when I will personally have the chance to give my vote to the re-election of President Barack Obama.
