National Service without affecting your job?

Is it possible to do any level of National Service without affecting your job?

Should it be mandatory for everyone to do 6 months of National Service at Age 18?

Should a 4-year university student be allowed to take a year of National Service rather than their first year of studies?

Is there any way for parents to say donate time to National Service, say turning up at a National Guard post and lending a hand for a weekend, morning or afternoon?
