I have watched Mr. Obama's candidacy with a sense of "waiting for the other shoe to drop." I knew that at some point, he would show that he's just the same as the rest - pure politician. A very, very talented and articulate politician, but a politician nonetheless. Well, he's done it - changed position to try and "centralize" himself for the general election.
Now he supports illegal wiretaps and government funding of religion, two clearly unConstitutional concepts that are anathema to those of us who formed his biggest base of support. What next, Mr. Obama - are you planning to leave the abrogation of habeas corpus in place, as well?
I had been looking forward to this election. I now don't think I'll bother to vote, since Mr. Obama and John McCain are two peas in the same pod. Just check out their voting records and recent comments.

Obama said he would scrap Bush’s program and start his own that allows religious groups to receive support if their programs are effective and they avoid proselytizing in their programs.
He still believes in separation of church and state.
The bill grants immunity from CIVIL lawsuits, it does not protect the telecoms from criminal prosecutions.
You really think we’ll be better off with four more years of Bush/McCain, endless war in Iraq, a new war with Iran, tax cuts for the rich and more neocons on the Supreme Court?
If McCain wins, we lose. It’s that simple.
Just ask “presidents” Kerry, Dukakis and Mondale what happens to those who avoid the center.
This is your only post, suggesting you may not be a real supporter and just came here to cause trouble. Well, how about it?
nice try, but you'll have to do better |

Your facile, quote the politician comments make it clear that you've bought into barackomania without the kind of discriminating thought that would be helpful in the future. Mr. Obama is trying to gain the support of constituencies that would NEVER support him, and he's doing it at the expense of those of us who brought him the nomination. Additionally, a failure to move to the center is not what cost democrats past elections; rather, it was a failure to establish a clear position and a clear choice, different from that of the republican party. Obama looked like that different choice, until the past several weeks. If you really want to see what happens to a candidate who abandons real positions and seeks out those who would never support him, see McGovern vs. Nixon, 1972.

I have been a proud supporter of Barack. However, I believe in the Constitution of the United States. As a serviceman, I would lay down my life for this powerful document. I can't believe that he would comprise the Constitution and not send a powerful message to the telecom criminals. I am now stuck choosing the lesser of two evils (Barack or John). I hope that the Green Party produces a candidate by November.
