Senator McCain has urged Obama to accept public financing for the fall campaign. It may seem odd that a Republican is promoting government funding, but don't be fooled by this disingenuous stand.

McCain and the rest of the country are well aware of Obama's supremacy with online fundraising. This gives Obama an edge in the fall with responding to the Republican attack machine. If both campaigns accept the limits of public campaign financing, Obama will be fighting with both hands tied behind his back. The reason is that the well-funded 527 groups on the Republican side will use their millions to generate attack ads on Obama and he won't be able to respond in-kind.

The 527 groups are unaffiliated committees that can raise unlimited funds to participate in elections. One mega-rich person (like George Sorors) can finance these groups. They can run as many ads as they like, no matter how false or obscene, virtually unregulated. That's how Kerry got "Swiftboated" in the last election. By the time he responded, it was too little, too late.

The Obama campaign should not fall for McCain's ploy. Our candidate is already financed by the public. "We the people," who have invested in his campaign and continue to fund it with our small donations based on our hopes and dreams for the future, will continue to support our candidate all the way to the White House. Tell everyone you know that Obama should not agree to public financing while the Republicans use their 527 groups to destroy his reputation and America's future.

Unless there is a prohibition on 527's (and there won't be) and free air time by the networks that use our air waves for free(when hell freezes over), public financing is untenable. Obama will take a bit of a hit, although he never signed any "pledge". But the narrative is out there, even on progressive talk radio.

If ever there was a citizen's campaign, this is it. I give $25, $50 when I can and I feel a part of this campaign. Obama's supporters want to stay engaged and part of the solution. Saying he'll meet McCain to work out the loopholes -- well let McCain have at it. He either means it or he doesn't. I think it's a good response on Obama's part.

Hillary can attack it, but that just shines a light on her "35 years" of raising campaign cash. She's honorable because she didn't "pledge?" doesn't that open the door to examine her financing?

And let's keep our own narrative going: Clintons' tax returns, the papers from her years as First Lady, donors to Bill's library and foundations that could be laundering political favors. Let's shine a bright, white light on the Clintons' keeping everything secret.

I don't know the answer. I know what a positive campaign Barack is trying to run. But how do we show the truths about the opponent? I'm at a loss.

I never viewed this issue to be a firm commitment by the Obama campaign. Now, it seems apparent that presumptions are necessitating a closer look at the issue.

I could point fingers and whine about who started it and argue over the timing of presenting the American people with the issue but I am darn sick and tired of projecting my energy and efforts to these means. This incidentally is a big reason why I personally have developed a great respect for the Barack Obama Campaign for President. Call it sick and tired of being sick and tired.

So the issued is being forced upon us. I'm o.k. with that. If I can I would like to bring up my own concerns. Personally I would be disappointed if I were denied the ability to contribute more funds to the Barack Obama campaign while corporations or other politically motivated institutions are allowed to do so. My dollars are just as politically motivated as theirs (although in much smaller amounts)

Can anyone refer me to a reliable source of additional information. I emphasize reliable.

This ABC story is a total hatchet job. They cut and pasted portions of the story. It's despicable. The original owners of the house have taken the legs out of this entire story. But I had to dig for it (although I knew I'd read it yesterday.)

Why is none of the MSM reporting the voting fraud in NY? Very little has been mentioned about what happened in NM either. I have not heard anything on the Paul v. Clinton case scheduled to begin tomorrow. I find it hard to believe people suggest that BO is getting a free ride by the press.

This is so true. My parents (and myself) grew up in a small rural community where racism was an accepted fact of life. I rejected these views which led to many disagreements growing up. I was floored the other day when my Dad stated he was backing Barak Obama.

He believes Obama is the best person to lead our country and stop this senseless Irag war.

This isn't the most positive thing ever, but I think it's necessary.

A lot of people have been making a big deal about the fact the MSNBC changed the video of Michelle Obama saying she is "really proud" of her country. They did.

However, earlier in the day she said the same thing, without the "really," if this video is to be trusted. I'm no film expert, but it doesn't look doctored to me.

I have no problem with what she said, and neither do most Americans. But if people keep making a big deal about the MSNBC thing - calling them, posting on blogs, etc, we could actually exacerbate what shouldn't be a big deal. So lets just let it slide and focus on the more important things - donating and calling Texas and Ohio!

swift about the response to the growing swiftboating of Michelle Obama. This situation can NOT be ignored because it creates a narrative. We have seen them do this SUCCESSFULLY time and time again! Michelle needs to schedule a press conference to respond and slam them for their desparate Rovian attacks, framing it in the politics as usual. Taking the high road by not responding will not work; we learned that from John Kerry. They have to be defeated not just ignored.

Michelle will be speaking this evening in Rhode Island and I believe she will address it during her speech. I do not believe a press conference should be called because that will take attention away from Obama, the candidate. Michelle is a smart cookie and has no problem explaining her positions. She will rise above this latest issue. But I do agree that it needs to be addressed as soon as possible.

Michelle spoke this afternoon and she was brilliant. She explained away this non-issue and she was so authentic, so honest. She also screwed up a little referring to people who have been "running forever". Then she caught herself, re-phrased it, and the audience laughed with her. It was such a human moment. So much of what this campaign is all about. It was wonderful.

I said this yesterday, and everyone told me it would go away. I've been around too long -- this is a powerful narrative and it will do damage. Michelle should have gotten ahead of it yesterday. She needs a press conference today. It may be too late, but she needs to show grace and courage under pressure and it needs to happen soon. Every little mistake right now is like a little cut that can keep bleeding. And it's going to be a rough couple of weeks, with 527's forming. The onslaught will be fierce. She can diffuse this like -- forgive me the comparison -- Hillary did for Bill with Gennifer Flowers. It's really, really important. We have to a little smarter here, guys.

It's better for her to address it during a speech. But address it, she must. I've been around Republicans way too long, and this is the sort of thing they latch onto. The un-engaged take small items like this and use them to base all of their decisions. She will be grace and courage under pressure, more people will be watching her than normally would, and it's a win-win for us.

Michelle's love for freedom and appreciation for the USA is in" The Audacity of Hope" book-
that was written well before this campaign- might be good to refer people to that as we speak out.

she expressed what many of us feel- the truth- I have been ashamed as a so called leader in the free world that we allowed so many of of constitutional freedoms to be eroded.

She expressed a truth - this is an exceptional country- and although on our worst day we are better off than most of the world, we all know we were meant to do better. There is a pride in her statement and settling for less is not genuine.

We do need a press conference and I feel as she does, no apologies.

I long for a moral leader in the White House, who has not sold out to the PACS.

He has already transformed politics- he has shown future candidates they can have viable campaigns without resorting to malice, political tricks, and lobbyist money.
The other politicians have changed their rhetoric to imitate him but some lack the substance and character to back it up- Obama is not wowing everyone with words- but his actions.

This campaign and his record speak for itself. His wisdom and powerful mind come through in his books.

He plans to restore debate and looking at the world through the eyes of your opponent before enacting laws. His plans lack the force of HRC because hers will be enforced mandates, no matter the unforseen cost to the US people who did not vote for her.

Do we want mandates conceived of 1 person or a leader to retore the checks and balances in the discussions before legislation is enacted.

One only has to look at the way the campaigns are conducted to see how each will manage the government and deal with opposing views.

Ask yourself is this the one to govern us?

This link is to a GREAT article from the Washington Post back in January talking about the amazing success Barack had with passing a law that videotapes all questioning and confessions in Illinois:

Obama proposed requiring that interrogations and confessions be videotaped.
This seemed likely to stop the beatings, but the bill itself aroused immediate opposition. There were Republicans who were automatically tough on crime and Democrats who feared being thought soft on crime. There were death penalty abolitionists, some of whom worried that Obama's bill, by preventing the execution of innocents, would deprive them of their best argument. Vigorous opposition came from the police, too many of whom had become accustomed to using muscle to "solve" crimes. And the incoming governor, Rod Blagojevich, announced that he was against it.

Obama had his work cut out for him.

He responded with an all-out campaign of cajolery. It had not been easy for a Harvard man to become a regular guy to his colleagues. Obama had managed to do so by playing basketball and poker with them and, most of all, by listening to their concerns. Even Republicans came to respect him. One Republican state senator, Kirk Dillard, has said that "Barack had a way both intellectually and in demeanor that defused skeptics."

The police proved to be Obama's toughest opponent. Legislators tend to quail when cops say things like, "This means we won't be able to protect your children." The police tried to limit the videotaping to confessions, but Obama, knowing that the beatings were most likely to occur during questioning, fought -- successfully -- to keep interrogations included in the required videotaping.

By showing officers that he shared many of their concerns, even going so far as to help pass other legislation they wanted, he was able to quiet the fears of many.

Obama proved persuasive enough that the bill passed both houses of the legislature, the Senate by an incredible 35 to 0. Then he talked Blagojevich into signing the bill, making Illinois the first state to require such videotaping.

Hi Maeve, that's just how it works with the personal blogs. I have no idea why it doesn't automatically create links like it does in the public blogs. I do know how to fix it, though! :-)

Copy your URLs into a public post and then click "preview comment". (You don't have to publish the comment... just go far enough to preview the comment.)

That will show the URLs as links. Then just copy each link into your personal blog - by copying the word "link" for each - and the live link will copy over.

It's strange, but that's what works! Let me know if you have any questions.

I just heard Brent Budowsky on Randi Rhodes' show. He made the point that the Lugar-Obama Nuclear Proliferation bill has done more for national security than any bill passed during the Bush administration: That Obama worked substantively with Richard Lugar, a Republican; that he was able to help marshall it through a Republican-run committee, get it to the floor and get it passed and get it signed by George Bush. Budowsky said it was a stunning achievement of how to get something that the right wing would normally fight, get it marshalled through, with exceptional talent and skill. Without caving to the Republicans. He is a master at "solutions" and "hard work" and "getting things done."

Hey wait -- am I plagiarizing by using the words solutions, and hard work? Oh, no!

We need to choose how we showcase Obama's achievements. This is a major one, and it has to do with national security. Google it, look at the details. Google Brent Budowsky for more information.

Oh, Michelle was BRILLIANT in Rhode Island. She knocked it out of the park, and knocked that ridiculous issue into the dirt. Yea!

Hillary Clinton loves phrases. "35 Years of Experience", "Day One", "Solutions". Who is this person who must define herself with catch-phrases and who changes themes like many change their shorts? She refuses to release the presidential documents that show what she actually did while First Lady. She now refused to release her tax records, although Obama and McCain have released theirs. She claims to be a populist and "for the people", yet sat on the Board of Directors at WalMart for six years and did NOTHING to benefit the workers, referred to as "blood-sucking parasites" by company attorneys. Now, she criticizes Obama for his oratory skills. I guess she'd prefer to run against George W Bush, for whom two syllables are a challenge, and three, Mt. Everest.

I have found many of Hillary's claims to be not true, such as is illustrated in the ad she is running in Wisconsin. Let's take a closer look at who's really qualified and or who's really working for the good of all of us in the Senate, Obama or Clinton.

Barack Obama is not just a talker. He's a doer. Just compare how they have managed their campaigns. Hillary dumped all her money and pinned all her hopes on winning the nomination by Super Tuesday. She failed. BAD JUDGMENT. She had no plans beyond that.

Barack Obama out-strategized her, outmanaged her, and out-financed her. His judgment appears impeccable. He OPPOSED the Iraq War. She voted to authorize it. He seems to be a step ahead of her at every turn. That is the kind of brilliance we NEED in the White House.

Oprah said it best: "I'm voting for Barack Obama, not because he is black, but because he is brilliant."

These are some of her bills that is true and they are very fluffy.
She did have a few more substantive pieces pass.

If you go to Govtrack you can follow both.

It is easy for Obama to say and prove that in his days in the Senate he has achieved more and tried to achieve more than she did in her first days. On a per diem basis he is miles ahead.

Some of those fluffy bills come with the territory. He has some as well. That is not the issue.

He has achievements. Ethics Reform in the Senate is my favorite.
Some would go for Children's Healthcare in Ill.

Lets stay on that message...here are his achievements...and then ask what are her's...being positive. ...my big Problem with Chris Mathews last night is he did not turn to the Clinton surogate and ask her to name any of Mrs. Bills. I doubt she could have done it.

The short of it...lets not get into a tit for tat spitting match of caustic words. Helps none and is not in the best interest of this campaign.

Lets know what has been done.
Speak to it.
Clearly, thoughtfully, positively.

I will gladly stack his versus hers on a per diem basis especially.

My all time favorite closed captioning gaffe: I am watching President Bush address the nation after 9/11. I am in a bar in Alexandria, within sight of the Capitol.

The President says that when terrorists kill innocent people, they "blaspheme the name of Allah".

The closed captioning says: "THEY BLAST AMPHETAMINE IN THE NAME OF ALLAH"

I am totally serious, this actually happened while I was watching.

Whatever happened, deliberate slurs and dirty tricks will no doubt continue. They must be laid at John McCain's feet, and he must be held accountable. THE CANDIDATE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CAMPAIGN. Senator Obama has laid down his markers for how the campaign should be conducted. I hope we all pay attention, no matter how high the emotions run.

McCain must live with what agents do on the Republicans behalf. There is a chance it will kill his campaign. People who tell lies for a living don't like to sit out national elections.

But most importantly, we need to remember our own standards and try to conduct ourselves in a way that we'd be proud to show our children when they ask:

"What did you do during The Campaign, Daddy (or Mommy)?"

I read these posts and grow close to outraged on our behalf. The posts are filled with intelligent articulation of the details- the beef, as they say, and yet by buying into the Clinton spin, it seems the millions of voters who support Obama have been categorized as stupid, gullible, uniformed, foolish, hypnotized, mesmerized, zombies, etc. I would love to hear Senator Clinton accuse him of being all rhetoric and no substance and to hear him repond by saying, "Senator Clinton, I take exception to such remarks, not merely because they are patently false and I don't accept this kind of political mudslinging, but because I really think it is a huge insult to the millions of voters who have come out to support me. If you insist I am all talk with no substance, you suggest that my supporters, by default, must be fools who have no idea what my platform is. You insult their intelligence, and I can tell you that the voters in this country are too smart to be bamboozled by empty rhetoric. They are discerning, thoughtful, rational people who I have a great deal of respect for. You should respect their judgment as well." What I like to remind people of is that this isn't a policy referendum -- this is a choice of a PRESIDENT!

You can have the most brilliant policy and position papers in the world, but it won't matter a lick if you don't have the ability to get things done.

More importantly, it won't matter when the unexpected happens -- and that's what most of history is!

It's worth remembering that FDR didn't propose The New Deal until after he was innaugurated... I wonder, if he were running today, would he be bombarded with accusations of vagueness and lack of experience? Probably.

I think Barack has tremendous leadership potential and ability to fundamentally move the debate in a new direction.

Granted, it's just potential -- he could always wind up being more Jimmy Carter than FDR -- but at this juncture in our history, we are better off taking that chance and possibly failing, than not taking that chance and failing for certain!

And if you look at it, Obama atually have more experiene then FDR had when he ran. I think Barak will be the greatest president in decades, of course partly because Bush was so bad that anyone following him will be a success.

I read a article in todays Newsweek, it is about the Clintons relationship to the media. I think it is important that Senator Obama will be available to the media, while he is running, and also after the eletion. They might turn on him if he avoids them. I think fireside chtas is a good idea. Preferably streamed on the internet.

On the front page of Tuesday's Washington Post was an article detailing how in late January U.S. forces, acting with autonomy inside Pakistan, were able to target and kill Abu Laith al-Libi, a senior al-Qaeda commander.

The strike, which came without the Pakistani government's knowledge and helped eliminate an individual who had long eluded the spy-agency's capture, was an obvious boon in the War on Terror. But the political implications of the operation were just as fascinating.

In August, Sen. Barack Obama had made the argument that, as president, he would target Al Qaeda officials in Pakistan even without the country's acquiescence -- the type of attack that, six months later, proved to be successful.

At the time, Obama was roundly criticized for his remarks, both by his Democratic competitors for the White House and by the Bush administration.

"We think that our approach to Pakistan is not only one that respects the sovereignty of Pakistan, but also is designed so that we are working in cooperation," said then-Press Secretary Tony Snow.

And just one week ago, President Bush himself lambasted Obama's approach to foreign affairs.

"I certainly don't know what he believes in," Bush said on February 10, about Obama. "The only foreign policy thing I remember he said was he's going to attack Pakistan and embrace Ahmadinejad."

To be sure, not everything is known about the extent and execution of the CIA's operation. But, on the surface, it carries similarities to Obama's stated approach towards Pakistan's terrorism problem, the same approach Bush trivialized.

Here is Obama's August 2 statement at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars:

"I understand that President Musharraf has his own challenges... But let me make this clear. There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. ... If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf will not act, we will."

Yup -- pretty amazing that it might be enough to net us a few more delegates here!

I actually was a poll worker on election day, and was appalled at how we run things here in NYC. No testing, no mandatory training, and so many steps between the numbers going from the machine to the official report that there's WAY too many places where someone could screw with the vote tallies.

Thankfully, at least, we can go back and get the "real" count from our machines, unlike the computer ones...

But seriously, NY needs a new system, and a more professional elections administration!

A few short hours after winning two more states and everyone on the blog is wringing their hands and letting the Clinton machine win by getting under our skin. C'mon. They read these blogs. The media reads these blogs - lets stay focused and positive. I hardly recognize this blog anymore. It was a fun supportive place where we could banter, share ideas, and most of all be uplifting. Now it sounds as if your faith in Obama is out the window - sounds like you think this bright articulate man with the best team in the country will not be able to fight these ridiculous smear efforts. Enough!! We need to stay focused, smart and be a positive voice. When others come to our site they should need insulin from all of the nice positive feelings that are evoked. This is my first post to Obama's website. I've been reading this blog for awhile, but am now inspired to help do what I can to further Obama's cause. I feel that the stakes are TOO HIGH for Obama to lose this election. We desparately need an agent for positive change in this country.

I feel like the biggest way I can help right now is to try to raise money for his campaign so we can secure Texas and Ohio and end the primaries.

From my experience in Nevada, you will be put to work the moment you walk in the door. They may include canvassing the neighborhoods (they have it all organized), phone banking, visibility events (standing on the street corners), doing mundain paperwork, like stuffing, organizing, etc., and I got to volunteer at an Obama event that was happening, and attending a caucus as a volunteer.

I figure our job is to do whatever is needed at that moment. It was so much fun, met new people, made new best friends, and was pleasantly exhausted at the end of the day.

One of the best things I have done to date. In fact, I am going to Oregon with one of my Nevada buddies in May. It's not over till its over. And then it just begins.

Go Obama Go! Yes We CAn.

The problem is those private individuals/groups who run massive dirty ad campaigns - but they're not run by the candidate ... this happened a lot in the last general election ...

What Obama is trying to do is to ensure that loopholes are tied up so that when candidates commit to public financing only, it's for real.

In 2007, shortly after I became a candidate for president, I asked the Federal Election Commission to clear any regulatory obstacles to a publicly funded general election in 2008 with real spending limits. The commission did that. But this cannot happen without the agreement of the parties' eventual nominees. As I have said, I will aggressively pursue such an agreement if I am my party's nominee.

I do not expect that a workable, effective agreement will be reached overnight. The campaign-finance laws are complex, and filled with loopholes that can render meaningless any agreement that is not solidly constructed.

As USA TODAY has critically observed, outside groups have come to spend tens of millions of dollars "independently," while the candidates they favor with these ads "wink and nod" at this activity. There is an even greater risk of this runaway, sham independent spending now that the Supreme Court has wrongly opened the door to more of it in a recent decision.

I propose a meaningful agreement in good faith that results in real spending limits. The candidates will have to commit to discouraging cheating by their supporters; to refusing fundraising help to outside groups; and to limiting their own parties to legal forms of involvement. And the agreement may have to address the amounts that Senator McCain, the presumptive nominee of his party, will spend for the general election while the Democratic primary contest continues.

In l996, an agreement on spending limits was reached by Sen. John Kerry and Gov. William Weld in their Massachusetts Senate contest. They agreed to limits on overall and personal spending and on a mechanism to account for outside spending. The agreement did not accomplish all these candidates hoped, but they believe that it made a substantial difference in controlling outside groups as well as their own spending.

We can have such an agreement this year, and it could hold up. I am committed to seeking such an agreement if that commitment is matched by Senator McCain. When the time comes, we will talk and our commitment will be tested.

I will pass that test, and I hope that the Republican nominee passes his.

The fact that Obama is the same guy no matter who he's speaking with, of what group he's speaking to...that will stand him in good stead in remaining debates (whether with HRC or McCain).

By contrast, HRC has spent so much time trying to circumvent rules and trip Obama up (rather than just running on her record and on the issues) that now she's sort of at a loss...as state after state rejects negative campaign tactics.

Good luck with that at this stage of the game, HRC!

Ah, the fun part.

Obama answered a questionnaire from the FEC "..would you accept public funding if your opponent did." "Yes"

That's what we read / hear / McCain spins. (And should)

However, further investigation reveals that Obama's answer to the questionnaire continues by with further proposals to level the playing field. (Basically challenging the FEC to expand options available to each candidate equally in addition to funds).

After listing these proposals, Obama states that if the FEC agrees to these proposals, he would aggressively negotiate with the Republican nominee about all of them.

Now......

Much more interesting (at least to me) is that McCain has perhaps backed himself up into a legal bind, perhaps forcing him to accept public funding no matter what.

Thousands of Students March 7 Miles To Vote

Early voting starts today in Texas. In Waller County, a primarily rural county about 60 miles outside Houston, the county made the decision to offer only one early voting location: at the County Courthouse in Hempstead, TX, the county seat.

Prairie View A&M students organized to protest the decision, because they felt it hindered their ability to vote. For background, Prairie View A&M is one of Texas’ historically Black universities. It has a very different demographic feel than the rest of the county. There has been a long history of dispute over what the students feel is disenfranchisement. There was a lot of outrage in 2006, when students felt they were unfairly denied the right to vote when their registrations somehow did not get processed.

According to an article in today’s Houston Chronicle:

Waller County has faced numerous lawsuits involving voting rights in the past 30 years and remains under investigation by the Texas Attorney General’s Office based on complaints by local black leaders. Those allegations, concerning the November 2006 general election, related to voting machine failures, inadequate staffing and long delays for voting results.

As a journalist, I harbor serious doubt about each of the most likely nominees. But with Sens. Hillary Clinton and John McCain, I feel that I'm dealing with known quantities. They've been in the public arena for years; their views, values and temperaments have received enormous scrutiny. By contrast, newcomer Obama is largely a stage presence defined mostly by his powerful rhetoric. The trouble, at least for me, is the huge and deceptive gap between his captivating oratory and his actual views.

But on inspection, the metaphor is a mirage. Repudiating racism is not a magic cure-all for the nation's ills. The task requires independent ideas, and Obama has few. If you examine his agenda, it is completely ordinary, highly partisan, not candid and mostly unresponsive to many pressing national problems.

The contrast between his broad rhetoric and his narrow agenda is stark, and yet the media—preoccupied with the political "horse race"—have treated his invocation of "change" as a serious idea rather than a shallow campaign slogan. He seems to have hypnotized much of the media and the public with his eloquence and the symbolism of his life story. The result is a mass delusion that Obama is forthrightly engaging the nation's major problems when, so far, he isn't.

His argument is soft racism. HRC and JM are both a disaster for this country. But he's more comfortable with them because he knows that they are disasters?

This nonsense about Obama being an unknown quantity is ridiculous. The man has a twelve (12) year record. HRC has a 24 year record (AK, DC, and NY). And JM has a 50 year record.

With each of them you are able to discern their judgment, policy position, character, legislative accomplishments so what's his problem? What is his reason for saying Obama is an unknown quantity.

Obama has done for more the the average American in his 12 years than HRC has done in her 24 or JM in his 50 if you ask me.

I just wanted to say that more calls and early calls to Texas will help. We have ignorant people in Houston and surrounding areas still thinking Obama is Muslim instead of Christian. They even said his middle name on the radio the other morning and everyone was freaking out before an informed person called in and set them straight.

Please help get the word out about Obama's ideas and policies. My husband and I are doing our part talking to people and canvasing but please help get the word out about Obama's policies. A lot of the criticism we are getting is that he is not giving specifics. I can send them to this site, but reinforcement of any kind is helpful.

Obama can take Texas. He just needs some help from us!

Did anyone see MSNBC last night after the Wisconsin primary? Chris Matthews was interviewing Stephanie Tubbs-Jones (D)(Ohio) who supports HRC and a Senator from Florida who supports Obama.

When pressed by Tubbs-Jones to list one Obama accomplishment, FLA Senator could not list one -- NOT because there aren't any, but because the accomplishments are not posted anywhere on this site (that I can find).

The Obama campaign needs to send out an email to us all that details Obama's accomplishments (compared to HRC) because Barack clearly has accomplished more than HRC by what statistics I can find.

This viral email suggests that people verify the information on the Library of Congress web site (Link ... if you go there, you can see all of the bills that any Senator voted on. It's a great resource, provided that the data is not distorted.

Everyone who supports Obama should immediately write to CNN and MSNBC and request that outside funding by independent organizations be a part of the debate discussion. Hillary Clinton should explain her position on outside 527 organizations, in particular the American Leadership Project. CNN should ask whether she would be willing to use her influence to put a stop to the American Leadership Project. The ALP is an outside organization similar to Swift Boat 527 that influenced the Kerry/Edwards run for Presidency. These organizations are not bound by campaign rules and do nothing but erode the election process. 527s can be funded by large donors and lobbyist who seek to influence elections. The ALP has planned to launch negative ads against Obama in Ohio and possibly Texas.

Since Hillary is taking a page from the Republican playbook and attacking Senator Obama on one of his strengths, public speaking, it is time to reexamine just why her healthcare initiative failed back in the 1990's. The first thing she did was set up this secret conference of experts, closed to the press, where the elites, aka, those that already agreed with her, were creating the perception of a blue ribbon commission/study group, even though her plan was actually already formulized and people and the conference were given very strict paramenters within which to work, so that they would come to the conclusion she had already reached. There wasn't any brainstorming or meeting of the minds, it was a done deal. When the Senate was handed this proposal, and told to vote on it, they of course had to discharge their duties as legislators and discuss and debate. The Clintons were adament that their's was the only way to proceed. The late Senator, John Chafee, of Rhode Island, a moderate, got together a groups of moderates and offered to work with her and make some real progress in solving our health care crises. Hillary didn't want to hear about it, it was all about her and Bill telling the Senate what to do. Only she and Bill knew what was best. Thus, it failed not because of a vast right wing conspiracy, as she claims, but rather her own arrogance and unwillingness to reach across the aisle and be bipartisan, something she is claiming she does in the Senate.

This is another example of Bill Clinton's very poor political skills too!

How many times can HRC make this same brain dead argument about "present votes" in the ILL state legislature. It is widely recognized by all (see for example

that a "present" vote is the same as a NO vote, though in the case of the former there are often subtle political reasons (by virture of political telegraphy) why it makes sense to cast a "present" vote. His votes on parental consent, for example, were worked out in advance with ILL Planned Parenhood. Hence they were a function of political design - NOT weakness.

I don't know which is worse: not understanding this simple fact regarding the mechanics of voting in the ILL legislature, or intentionally misrepresentling the record for the sake of potential political gain. If the latter, it speaks volumes about her low regard for her audience, not to mention an obvious defect in personal integrity.

If this were the only example of HRC (or BC) misrepresenting (read LYING) about Barack's record, you might be inclined to let it pass. But the list is endless. Remember, for example, her distortions on his Patriot Act involvment: "First he was against it," quoting HRC from RI, "then he was for it - and that's not change." Utter nonsense, for anyone who knows what he and Russ Feingold did with regard to adding civil liberty protections to the PA.

The only executive experience that HRC has is running a national campaign. By every professional metric - anticipation, timeliness, fundraising, being nimble, shaping a message, delegating responsibility effectively, etc. - she has failed miserably. And when you add in the incredible negativity in the form of lies and distortions from both her and BC - her failure is breathtaking.

And this woman wants to be chief executive of the U.S.!!

Give me a break. What a fairy tale.

Im from Europe but Im watching your elections with great interest. I found Mr. Obama much more inspiring than the other candidates. But today i checked also HRC page just because of curiosity what they will say about yesterday defeat.

I must tell you that I was totally shocked by the childiness of the people there not all of course but saying that they will rather vote for McCain than for Obama at general election I think is disastrous. So they do not really care about issues and they will rather prolong the war in Iraq than to admit that somebody else got more votes than HRC and won the democrat elections. I mean is this the democracy?

Also I would like to say something about the experiences. I think BO has just enough experiences for the job. His lifestory's proving that. Im more concerned about HRC experiences. Where did she get them? Between Bill mandate maybe, so she paricipated at the national security meetings, economy planning, ... That reminds me more of wifes of european dictators in 20th century than to real politic experience.

One more congratulations for the moderators of this page. On HRC page I saw comments that posts are being chcked for hours before posted so it is clearly censored and I will ask again is this the democracy?

As Obama points out to rust-belt voters that Hillary supported NAFTA, she’s crying that it’s just not true. Why would she bother lying in the internet age?

DavidSirota: Hillary Clinton has made statements unequivocally trumpeting NAFTA as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Buffalo News reports that back in 1998, Clinton attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and thanked praised corporations for mounting “a very effective business effort in the U.S. on behalf of NAFTA.” Yes, you read that right: She traveled to Davos to thank corporate interests for their campaign ramming NAFTA through Congress.

On November 1, 1996, United Press International reported that on a trip to Brownsville, Texas, Clinton “touted the president’s support for the North American Free Trade Agreement, saying it would reap widespread benefits in the region.”

The Associated Press followed up the next day noting that Hillary Clinton touted the fact that “the president would continue to support economic growth in South Texas through initiatives such as the North American Free Trade Agreement.”

Yes, we are all expected to just forget that, so that Hillary Clinton’s campaign can manufacture supposed “outrage” that anyone would say she supported NAFTA - all at a time her chief strategist, Mark Penn, simultaneously heads a firm that is right now pushing to expand NAFTA into South America.

What a total insult to America’s intelligence.

As a journalist, you should know that words matter. Accusing Obama supporters of being delusional and holding Senator Obama to a different standard than Senator Clinton, simply because he dares to give new voice to a different politics, is insupportable and unfair. Frankly, you should know better. Senator Obama’s health care plan chooses to focus on affordability in stead of mandates – a distinction from Senator Clinton’s based on a smart realization that making health insurance more affordable is what uninsured Americans need and what insurance companies can realistically improve upon. Senator Obama, unlike most Democratic politicians (including Senator Clinton) has stated that he will raise the social security payroll tax in order to render social security solvent. That takes political courage. Senator Obama is not afraid to challenge political orthodoxy by observing that Ronald Regan – not through his policies but his vision of America – offered this country a needed psychological boost at a critical time. Senator Obama, unlike most politicians, is not a hedger but a leader. Unlike Senator Clinton, he stated “from day one” that the war in Iraq was wrongly conceived and executed. And his assessment has proven painfully true. Unlike Senators Clinton and McCain, he believes that we should engage in direct discussions with out enemies so as to declare our American ideals. Moreover, Senator Obama has taken bold positions for the middle class, including being against bankruptcy legislation that rewarded credit card companies, which Senator Clinton supported. He has advocated tighter emission standards directly to the car manufacturers and oil companies. He, unlike Senators Clinton and McCain, believes that undocumented persons should be given drivers licenses because of safety concerns.

The foregoing are just a few examples of his worthy leadership and innovative ideas. Did you happen to read his Blueprint for Change, available for download free of charge at barackobama.com – before you wrote your article? And back to the word “delusion”, which dictionary.com defines as “a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact”. Who is deluding whom?

You argue that Senator Obama should be held to a higher standard because he is campaigning on a platform of change: “The reason for holding Obama to a higher standard is that it's his standard and also his campaign's central theme. He has run on the vague promise of "change," but on issue after issue -- immigration, the economy, global warming -- he has offered boilerplate policies that evade the underlying causes of the stalemates.” Yet you ignore all of the foregoing facts. Indeed, your circular argument spirals into absurdity because it misses the central point of Senator Obama’s campaign for the presidency: without a bold, uplifting and new sense of purpose -- a common purpose that we have not known for some time as a nation -- we as a nation are doomed to repeat the failures of our recent past. That is why, notwithstanding your less than objective reporting, Barack Obama will be our next president.

I have gone ahead and started sending this PDF to my friends on both sides of the aisle in OH. I believe, no matter who people are voting for, they need to be accountable for their views.

People claiming Barack "lacks substance" need to see this before heading to the voting booth so they do not base their votes on campaign-speak from the opposition.

Lugar-Obama Bill to Keep Weapons Out of Terrorists' Hands Passes Congress

WASHINGTON - Legislation authored by U.S. Senators Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL) that will help keep weapons like shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles out of terrorists' hands has passed Congress and will soon be signed into law by the President. Lugar and Obama authored the legislation (S. 2566) and included provisions of the bill as part of H.R. 6060, which was approved by the Congress early Saturday morning.

The Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction.

"The United States should do more to eliminate conventional weapons stockpiles and assist other nations in detecting and interdicting weapons of mass destruction. We believe that these functions are underfunded, fragmented and in need of high-level support," said Lugar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

"The Lugar-Obama initiative will help other nations find and eliminate the kind of conventional weapons that have been used against our own soldiers in Iraq and sought by terrorists all over the world," said Obama. "The Nunn-Lugar program has effectively disposed of thousands of weapons of mass destruction, but we must do far more to keep deadly conventional weapons like anti-aircraft missiles out of the hands of terrorists."

"We are particularly concerned that our government has the capacity to deal quickly with vulnerable stockpiles of shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles, otherwise known as Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems (MANPADS). Such weapons could be used by terrorists to attack commercial airliners, military installations and government facilities here at home and abroad. Al Qaeda reportedly has attempted to acquire MANPADS on a number of occasions," said Lugar.

The Lugar-Obama effort would energize the U.S. program against unsecured, lightweight anti-aircraft missiles and other conventional weapons.

I've been thinking of some good replies to the constant onslaught of attacks on Barack and there are some that struck my mind as pretty straight forward and applicable for the situation.

Barack should say that..
" You can't say on one hand that he has no specifics, and then turn around and attack him on his specifics.

you can't say he's all talk and no action, then turn around and criticize him for hundreds of votes and stances he's taken, and bills he's championed.

You can't say his call towards change is empty when thousands across the country are standing up, joining our cause, getting involved in politics for the first time.

People are not inspired by empty claims and empty slogans. People are inspired by the hope of our country coming together behind a common purpose. - Positive common sense changes from the failed politics of the past.

Sen. Barack Obama is poised to get the endorsement of the powerful Teamsters, the second major union endorsement for the Democratic front-runner in a week, union officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Obama will meet with Teamster President James P. Hoffa in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday. The endorsement is expected to come soon thereafter, said the officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the planned formal announcement.

The Teamsters represent 1.4 million members.

Union support will be key in the Democratic primaries in the next few weeks, particularly in Ohio on March 4 and Pennsylvania on April 22. Ohio and Pennsylvania have some of the nation's largest number of union workers, with more than 15 percent of the work force unionized in Pennsylvania and just over 14 percent in Ohio.

The Democratic presidential contenders have lobbied hard for the Teamster endorsement because of the power the union wields through its fundraising for Democratic candidates and get-out-the-vote programs. The Teamsters gave more than $2.2 million to Democrats in federal races in 2004. They have given more than $24 million to Democratic election causes since 1989, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

The endorsement from the Teamsters is Obama's fourth from organized labor in a week. The 65,000-member International Brotherhood of Boilermakers endorsed Obama on Wednesday, the 1.9-million member Service Employees International Union backed the Illinois senator last Friday, and the smaller United Food and Commercial Workers endorsed him last Thursday.

Rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton by far has a larger number of unions in her corner with 12 endorsements from unions affiliated with the AFL-CIO — the nation's largest labor federation — and the United Farm Workers from the rival Change To Win labor federation.

But Obama also has one AFL-CIO union in his corner — the Transport Workers Union. He also has the backing of the independent National Weather Service Employees Organization. And with a Teamsters endorsement, he will have four Change To Win unions in his corner: the Teamsters, SEIU, the United Food and Commercial Workers and UNITE HERE, who gave Obama his first national endorsement from a union.

Now is the time to fight McCain. Now, frankly, I agree with Hiliary that Barak does not have plans anc actions. Okay do not get mad. The question is how will he counter attack McCain when he says the same thing. Obama can use his short service in the Senate. He has a lot less votes than McCain. Therefore, Republicans will have less to complain about. On the other hand McCain has had many votes. The Barak campaign needs to go every vote. What was passed in every vote. Which side he took etc. Look for the things that went against working people and the middle class. What helped the rich and the elite. The reason Senators do not become President is because their opponets do as I wrote above. Please keep on reminding McCain wants to be in Iraq for the next 100 years. He states we have been in Germany, Japan, and South Korea for many years. How aboute stating our soldiers can wear regular military clothing or regular clothing when off duty. They can walk the streets and not feel a bomb will blow up in front of them.

Be ready to fight every negative and lie immidiately. Republicans fight dirty.

Hilary says she's ready with specfics on day one. Isn't it more important to project what the country will look like on the last day of an administration? It's always about the short-term in politics, and the tool of the two year budget cycle has become the tail that wags the dog for a generation in American politics. Who's come up with a way to craft a short-term budget and set of proposals that have any legs in the long run? We can never get from point A to point B in terms of change, because the political exigencies change day by day. With the kind of faith that Barack's generating, we've got to find a way to build Cathedrals again, and not just post-Katrina trailers. If we lose ourselves in specifics that blow away in the next political gale, we will waste a golden opportunity that we haven't had in this country in over a generation. What I want to know more about is methodology, principles, agreements about how to proceed. Talking about bipartisanship isn't new, committing to walk the razor's edge of sharing power, i.e. transforming Republicans from enemies into patriots will require a kind of courage that only a genuine statesman can evince. Will Barack willingly anger his "base" in order to do what's right? That would be something new, something that Hillary would not even contemplate.

Some highlights include:
-he has worked very hard on stopping nuclear proliferation and also on securing loose stockpiles of conventional weapons
-he helped pass the most significant ethics reform bill in years and years in the Senate, and has also helped pass other open government legislation
-he has been a leader in getting veterans appropriate mental health care, including screening all returning veterans for PTSD and getting them the treatment they need

It seems to me that most CNN commentators --that's the network I watch --is STILL continuing to push this argument that, while Obama is eloquent, he lacks substance. I absolutely cannot comprehend how anyone can infer that from his speeches. He is QUITE SPECIFIC even though he is ALSO eloquent.

I think BO supporters should inundate the networks with indignant feedback about this. Let's get 200 emails to the networks on this point. They should not be still stressing this. It's a serious point because so many people make their decisions on the basis of short talking points like this. Some of our neighbors, for example, say they think FOX NEWS is "fair and balanced" as if it's really their own opinon, not realizing they've been brainwashed. I have a lot of faith in people, but these kinds of repeated charges about substance, even among intelligent commentators, can influence people.

Also -- McCain is callling BO's speech "eloquent but empty." Since that's obvious claptrap, McCain MUST believe that repeating such things regularly will cause people to believe it. How do we nip that in the bud? I suggest Obama repeat McCain's phrase just as he did with the "JUST WORDS" reply. i.e. "EMPTY?"!!! How is a proposal that we make college more affordable empty." etc. etc.

Congratulations Sen. Barack Obama. 10 straight wins! Thank you Wisconsin. Thank you Hawaii. Thank you all Hopemongers.

We Must be ready for the Debates.

There is the wrong perception that HRC is better in the Debates. Not true.

Barack Obama has actually done better in some of the debates. We must nail the two upcoming debates. What we must do.

1.Review the video of the last debate. Fine tune the low points.

2.Barack must be Presidential. Look straight into the camera. Do not be tentative. No em’s whatsoever. I had some difficulty making some undecided’s vote for Obama because after some of those debates they said Barack did not come across as confident. Be the decent guy you are; pull out a sit for HRC and be cordial but remember this is a war. In the last debate that made a lot of impression on the voters.

3.Be firm, decisive and clear. Always reframe the questions and answer them by itemizing, i.e., saying what you would do point by point like # 1. # 2. #3. and finally…..

Never say “I agree with Hillary”. In debates that is a no, no. You get negative points for that. Even if you agree simply state your point otherwise you come across as not having ideas and just copying more so with the allegations of plagiarism and copying policies, this is important.

4.There will be a lot of attacks. Do not let HRC get under your skin. Answer any attack firmly with FACTS

5.Be prepared for these questions:
a.Plagiarism
b.Mitchelle saying “I am proud of my country
c.Campaign finance

Answer these very clearly and be sincere, so BE PREPARED. Find a way to inject the NY Times news of NY results irregularities of zero votes recorded for you and the NM official/supporter of HRC carrying ballot boxes home, etc into the discuss.

6.Shred into pieces this HRC “35yrs of experience talk”. Ask her to explain to the
American people how she has acquired 35yrs of experience. TEAR THIS NONSENSE INTO PIECES.

7.Throw out the NUMBERS. When you explain your policies spit out the numbers and show mastery and perfect command of the FACTS like your VICTORY speech yesterday.

8.Be yourself and be the GREAT guy you are as the next 44th POTUS.

9.We the People of the United States of America are with you, Mr. President. AMEN!!!

Thanks for posting this ....it should put an end to any "doubters" still out there that may think Obama is just about huge rallys & hope.. & lacks substance or policy.

We Obama supporters have known the facts all along..... this hopefully will show the "beef" & enlighten any undecided voters or doubters out there & answer any questions they may still have on issues of importance to them.

Hopefully they too will realize that Obama is a leader ....NOT just a "typical politican"
