Chicago, IL – Today, United States Congressman John Barrow (GA-12) endorsed Barack Obama, citing his success in the Georgia primary and his proven track record of bringing change that matters to working families.
Congressman Barrow said, “The voters in the 12th District of Georgia spoke on February 5, and the message came in loud and clear: They want Senator Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States, and I agree with them. Senator Obama has demonstrated that he can work with folks on all sides of an issue to find solutions that make sense for working families. That's what I've tried to do since I took office in 2005, and that's why I'm supporting him."
Senator Obama said, “I am grateful for Congressman Barrow’s support. Congressman Barrow knows through his years in local government and now representing the people of the 12th District what it takes to bring about real change in the lives of ordinary Americans. He has fought to make college more affordable and bring tax relief to working families. And I’m proud to stand with Congressman Barrow as we fight to bring about change all across our country."

Everyone lets please keep working hard in whatever way we can! Please keep donating, phone banking, canvassing and doing whatever you can! I have a personal fundraising page where I am attempting to raise $1,000 in small donations. Can you help me meet this goal?
Link
I have personally donated $140 to this campaign, but I do not have much money and cannot afford to donate anymore at the moment, but thanks to many wonderful Obama supporters my fundraising page has received over $600 in donations, can you help me reach my goal of $1,000 before March 4th by making a donation now?
Link
I particularly would like to get more young people like myself involved, Did you know Hillary said that work is a four letter word to young people? Lets prove her wrong! Even if you cannot afford to donate much why not donate $1 (cost of a Coke), $5 (a couple slices of pizza) or $10 (a ticket to a movie)? This small donation shows our stength in numbers and is how we will win the election!

Let's hope these excellent endorsements continue -- but please, please now is the time to keep up the pressure on the Clinton campaign to have Hillary honor her commitment during Tuesday's debate to: (1) release her tax returns, and (2) have President Clinton release his White House papers. The American people deserve to know the contents prior to Tuesday, March 4th. Obviously, the Clinton camp wants to keep this information under wraps -- and if not released by Tuesday, a golden opportunity missed! Keep up the pressure - Wednesday will be too late. Texas and Ohio need to be squarely in the Obama camp next week to keep the "momentum" moving forward to the convention.

I believe that our closing argument to close the deal should be voter turnout.
Barack has inspired a dizzying number of NEW VOTERS to come out and vote for him in these primaries. Hillary's response to this phenomenon has been to try to DAMPEN voters' hopes. She has countered Barack's vision by presenting a PESSIMISTIC VISION to these new voters. Because Hillary has chosen such a pessimistic response, these NEW VOTERS would return to their old habits if she were the nominee - they would not bother to show up at the polls.
Therefore, it the party was to choose Hillary as the nominee, we would literally be throwing away millions of votes! It's not that these people would vote for McCain - they wouldn't vote at all! They would remain so disillusioned by the entire political system that they would stay home!
Can our party afford to throw away millions of votes in November?

This squabble over public financing of our campaign is being "inspired" by the likes of the RNC, Camp HRC, John McCain, etc. Let's not let this false issue seep into our minds and break our focus on winning this nomination. I think we are smarter than the RNC, Camp HRC and John McCain and their surrogates here give us credit for. Many of us may be political novices and neophytes BUT we learn FAST!

some useful info:
For the purposes of Public Campaign Financing Law, the primarys and the general election are two different "elections". Obama is not under any restrictions in the Primarys since he has not used and Public Campaign Financing Law money.
No decision has been made about the General Election to come but Barack has said if nominated he will try to get the Republican nominee to make some agreement to including *all* financing. Clearly he cant agree to just use Public Financing Law money if Mccain will continue to allow code section 527 funds to be used for himself.
For my part, I dont care and will go with what Obama decides.

Hi, family,
Just got a phone call that a letter I wrote about why HOPE is important and why I am voting for OBAMA is being published in Vermont's largest newspaper sometime before March 4. The letter is on my blog.
OBAMA is expected to take Vermont with 98% of the vote on Tuesday, and early voting began Monday. Statewide Canvas from Canadian border to Massachusettes border all weekend!
HOPE is why I joined this family, and HOPE is why we will win!

There is no concern
I believe it was s strategic answer from senator Obama to the question.
Right now he is running for nomination, later he will be the presidential candidate and the DNC will need to come to agreement with him on all issues including finances. He is a part of the democratic party, and he will still hold strong by his ideas and the importance of leaving out the lobbyists Washington string pullers. He can't exclude the DNC from the decision. This was very wise move.. Has he done otherwise, HRC would have jumped on his throat and said are you making the decisions before consulting the DNC. If he was running as an independent may be.. But not as a democratic presidential candidate.
That's my take

TRICK not buying this. Not a good idea for Obama Nation to sign a petition asking Barack to do anything about whether he will or will not go with public financing of our campaign for President. That would be political suicide in the making--at this time. Barack has said how and when he will deal with the issue of public financing of campaigns. Just think about it...

That is nothing. We intend to invest more in this mission, even as we continue to make our regular donations to the campaign.
SO.

I love the fact that Barack didn't feel it was necessary to change his name to "fit in". I am not saying that's what Mitt did, but Barack keeping true to himself is what I love about him so much. :)

Aren't Mccain's attacks on Obama's Iraq policies really an effort to steal the independent voter in Texas?
Shouldn't Obama be out there saying loudly: "On one thing John McCain and I can completely agree. We share the same goal: The unconditional surrender of Al Qaeda. If not their surrender then the utter and total destruction of Al Qaeda."
Isn't everything else just tactical? Wasn't this Franklin Roosevelt's Mantra in 1942?
.
Obviously, McCain want Obama and Clinton to go on fighting to the bitter end whcih would lead to the destruction of the democratic party.
I am a staunch supporter, and I admire the Obama Team's brilliant campaign up to this point; lets not blow it at the last moment. If others agree, can't we get a message to Obama to maybe make a direct Patriotic appeal assuring the Independent Texas voter that Obama intends to utterly destroy Al Qaeda?

We already know that the GOP has endless $$ available from oil and pharmaceutical co. There will be VERY nasty Swiftboating going on from Sept thru Nov.
That will necessitate orgs. like Move-on to jump in with VERY nasty Swiftboating defenses. This will all force Obama's campaign into the very nastiness he renounces, and he won't be able to do anything to stop it. It will, however, be blamed on him.
He will need millions to place positive ads and appearances to counter these attacks himself, thereby maintaining at least some control over the tenor of the fight.
Our money is the best way to do that. Plus -- we all need the feeling of helping get all of us to the White House!

Are you kidding? I used to respect you, Mr. Phillips. I'm stunned by your complete inability to comprehend what is actually going on in America. Your own bitterness over race relations in this country have blinded you.
Perhaps though, if this is your view, it explains the difficulties that Britain has with multi-culturalism and in finding it's identity in the 21st century. And it probably explains why your agency lacks any real vision or success in promoting racial and gender equality.
To me, a white middle ages expatriate American woman in the UK, Obama represents change and hope for the future for all Americans. I did not vote for him out of some vague guilt over slavery. I voted for him because he promises to end the war in Iraq and to collaborate with other countries. He represents the best PERSON both to restore the US's image abroad and to unite all Americans around the theme of their own self-empowerment to effect change. Novel concept in a nanny state I know!

Richards' Sons Object to Clinton Video
By NEDRA PICKLER – 1 day ago
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — The two sons of Ann Richards, the late former Texas governor, are objecting to an Internet video published by Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential campaign that suggests their mother would have supported Clinton.
Clinton's campaign had permission from Richards' youngest daughter, Ellen, who said in a statement provided by the campaign that her mother was an "ardent feminist" who would be thrilled by her friend Hillary Clinton's candidacy.
"I believe that if my mom were alive today that she would be stumping across Texas and around the country supporting Hillary for president," her statement said.
Richards was governor from 1991-1995. She died in September 2006 at age 73. The two-minute video on Clinton's campaign Web site comes a week before the Texas primary and targets women voters in the state.
"So many women around Texas and America are saying, `Wish Ann was here, for us and for Hillary,'" a female voiceover says on the video.
"Today Ann would be asking all of us to make a statement. She would be traveling to every small town and big city in Texas, urging us all to take a stand, be counted, to make a difference, to make history," it says while a picture of Richards and Clinton appears on the screen. "This one's for Texas. This one's for our country. This one's for Ann."
But sons Dan and Clark Richards, partners at an Austin law firm, say nobody can know who the outspoken and opinionated former governor would have supported in the race between Clinton and Barack Obama.
"As her children, we never presumed to know her mind when alive and we are not prepared to make a claim as to who she would endorse or what she would do if she were still with us," they wrote in an e-mail last week. "We are not granting permission for her name to be used in advertisements on behalf of either candidate."

continued:
The e-mail, provided to The Associated Press by Dan Richards, was sent to Cathy Bonner, a friend of their mother's and member of Richards' administration. Bonner is working with Clinton's campaign and sent Dan and Clark Richards an early copy of the video on Feb. 19 "to make sure you are okay with it."
Dan Richards said in an interview Tuesday that they denied permission and he's angry the campaign published the video anyway. He said the campaign contacted him again last Friday to ask him to reconsider, and he repeated his objections.
"They asked me if I would sue the campaign, and I said no, I wasn't in the business of suing the campaign, but I didn't think they should do it," he said in a telephone interview. "To try to present who she would endorse a year and a half after she died is offensive to me."
Cathy Bonner said in an interview that after Richards' sons objected the video was edited to remove photos of the family. "We're not saying we speak for the family," Bonner said. She said the video is a statement from the former governor's supporters about the strong bond between Clinton and Richards.
Ann Richards' fourth child, Cecile, is president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. A spokeswoman for the organization did not return a telephone call Tuesday night seeking comment from Cecile Richards.

I was just watching MSNBC, and don't know if anyone else caught this: So the Clinton campaign asked for $2.2Million in contributions from their supporters for ads, and Bill Clinton sent out an email saying that in 24 hours they raised 1.9Million. The response from the Obama campaign - we just bought an additonal $1.9million worth of ads in Texas & Ohio. I LOVE our campaign. We are so awesome - David Plouffe & David Axelrod are the best and have such a great sense of humor.
You guys ROCK!

I do want to say that Ohio is an open primary so that works in our favor...if the numbers keep getting close then is a toss up and will depend on the number of Independents and oderate Republicans who may want to vote for Obama instead of wasting their vote on McCain.
Winning 2 out of 4 is still very, very, very good on states that we were trailing about 15-20 points just two weeks ago.

Given McCain's attacks on Obama's Iraq policies and McCain's new fear appeal to indpendents, I believe Obama is going to lose Texas by a couple of points.
Obama should make a patriotic appeal to independents: Unconditional Surrender of Al Qaeda. He must counter McCain's fear mongering. Republicans want the nomination battle to go on and on and on.....

It was all proven false, a statement from the Canadian government disclosing the truth has been made, etc. BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE - CLINTON IS USING THIS TO DESTROY OBAMA'S NAFTA CRED. IN OHIO AND THIS IS GOING TO HURT US.
This a very common Clinton/Lieberman campaign trick that WILL WORK among the "low-info" voters.
WE CAN HELP THOUGH - MORE PHONE BANKING TO OHIO WILL HELP TO DEFUSE THIS.
But, without an effort made by us to set the record straight with voters this could be enough for us to LOSE OHIO.

Here is an interesting read on the variance of the Hebrew meaning of Barak.
Link
Barak and Barack are not however the same; although, according to the article Barak can also mean blessing in Hebrew as Barack means blessed or one who is blessed by God in Arabic. Hebrew and Arabic often have similar roots because they both developed in such close proximity. But in his case, the Arabic Barack does not come from Hebrew, its Swahili, which is (I think) based from Arabic.

It is very telling how swife George W has been in attempting to buttress and weigh-in to support McCain who has pledged to continue the Bush policies when he (GW) really, "Do[esn't] want to get into politics."
All of this from my perspective reveals how much BO is seen as a serious threat to the Republican Party--unlike their telling ignoring of HRC, they seem to feel it wise to begin early with counter measures aimed toward Obama.

The GOP can no longer use Barack's name in press releases or formally. It is a "distraction."
Those who have been protesting, take note.
Now would be a good time to cease the name, not out of shame, but out of victory! It is very much now an "off limits" issue and I believe (being one of the first dozen or so co-adopters of the name and people to write to various outlets in protest) that we have MADE OUR POINT RESOUNDINGLY!!!!
Amazing. See what we can accomplish in less than a day by not letting it lie?

I happen to like my new middle name and fully intend keeping it. I also think it should be up to each individual community member to chose whether they would like to adopt/retain the name or not.
If I want to make a statement by adopting the middle name Hussein then I will.

I like my new middle name and will not give in to fear mongering by community members. If people are so afraid of Barack because of his name they are unlikely to support him anyway-they refuse to see past the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred.
I think it should be up to each individual community member to chose whether they would like to adopt/retain the name or not.
I don't appreciate someone telling me what I should and shouldn't do and if I wish to emphatically denounce the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred by adopting the name Hussein then I will, period.

Be sure to make a little noise (here and elsewhere) about the lowest low of the HRC campaign: claiming the endorsement of a deceased feminist icon, who just happened to be a Texas governor (Ann Richards)--despite the wishes of Richards' sons.

We just haven't grasped the consistency of her inconsistency, so to speak. It's entirely designed to throw our campaign off balance, and keep it off balance, by diffusing our energies. She said she was going after the kitchen sink approach and she is doing just that. It's a tactic, and one that has been effective before. She could be making a comeback, not in our eyes, but in the eyes of people who read only the headlines. Soundbites can be killers and she has been dominating the news cycles with them for the past 48, 72 hours. That's all the reject/denounce gambit was ; that's all the 'change you can xerox' bit was. And now it's going to be the Canadians and NAFTA. This is very Rove-ian.

I can only imagine that it's the idea of coming together. We can't forget that we are THE superpower of the world, and we haven't exactly showed any outward expression of wanting to unite the country or accepting the rest of the world as allies/friends for a very long time. (Also, our corporate greed goes a long way to exploit and hurt people the world over.) My bet would be that the Hope of that actually happening is what makes him cry. I know it makes me cry. Feb. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton may be unable to match Barack Obama in the party's delegate race even if she pulls off wins in the Texas and Ohio primaries next week.
While the math says she can still catch him, the odds are daunting because the Democratic Party doesn't have winner-take- all contests.
``Because of proportional representation, if one candidate gets a significant lead of pledged delegates, it's difficult -- but not impossible -- for the trailing candidate to make up the delegate disadvantage,'' said Tad Devine. It would take ``overwhelming'' victories in the remaining primaries. ``You really need to beat someone by 20 percentage points.''
Obama is ahead of Clinton by as many as 156 pledged delegates. There are 370 delegates at stake on March 4, and party rules for how they are awarded make it unlikely Clinton will cut much, if at all, into his lead.
Clinton, a senator from New York, continues to have an edge among superdelegates. Still, Obama, an Illinois senator, has momentum on his side, gaining backing from superdelegates such as Connecticut Senator Christopher Dodd, and Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota.
Next week's contests, which include Rhode Island and Vermont, illustrate Clinton's challenge. A narrow victory by her in Ohio will lead to an almost equal distribution of the state's 141 delegates. In Texas, with 193 pledged delegates available, the arithmetic for Clinton is worse.
Clinton, 60, could win statewide in Texas and still collect fewer delegates than Obama because 126 of them are awarded by state senate districts, and those won by Democrats in the last two elections get more delegates.
Again, Obama has the momentum. In the 11 contests he has won since Super Tuesday on Feb. 5, he has pocketed 65 percent of the pledged delegates, according to William Galston, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington.
Clinton will need to match that yield to pull even.
``It's difficult to imagine that Clinton can win'' in the March 4 states ``with sufficiently large margins to appreciably close her delegate deficit with Obama,'' said Charlie Cook, an independent political analyst in Washington. ``She'd have to win with landslide margins.''
``The powers that be in the Democratic Party'' won't call on Clinton to leave the race before March 4, said Cook. Starting on March 5, ``you will hear a chorus calling for her to drop out.''

So, at some point the vast majority of Americans, and that includes Ohioans, need to start using their critical thinking skills to figure things out for themselves...otherwise, things just won't change. I mean think about it; you live in Ohio, NAFTA is a major issue, Clinton is pulling out every dirty trick she can...so, hMMMMMMMMM. maybe this is one of those dirty tricks...ya think!
This is why the education system needs to be first on the list of things to change. As Americans we HAVE to start thinking for ourselves and not just buying everything we are told. Look where's it gotten us folks.

Could I please get some feedback on a letter I am about to send to our local paper? In general our community is white, well-educated, and liberal. 75% of our caucus went for Barack. The letter I am responding to is one of our token right-wing wackos. But in light of the recent incident of anti-semitic graffiti at a local elementary school, I wanted to address his rant. Here is my letter:
In response to "Obama a socialist, maybe a commie" (Feb. 27): When I opened the paper to the editorial pages today, on the one side I saw letters denouncing the racist graffiti at Blakely School in no uncertain terms: This "cowardly act of hatred" and these "ugly smears" are an "insult to the island."
On the other side of the page was a letter hatefully and groundlessly smearing Senator Barack Obama, suggesting that we look at his voting record to justify these claims. Senator Obama"s distinguished record of leadership in both the Illinois state senate and the U.S. Senate, and his years of experience as a professor of Constitutional law, demonstrate how directly and concretely he has contributed to furthering the founding principles of our democracy and insuring its safety.
Some SPECIFIC examples from his legislative record:
The Lugar-Obama legislation that has helped decrease the threat of old nulear, biological, and chemical weapons in the former Soviet Union; the Federal Funding Accountability and Tranparency Act of 2006 which Obama co-authored and that led to USAspending.gov (check it out online!) which keeps Americans better informed on government spending; and for anyone still questioning Obama's patriotism, here is an example of how much he supports and respects the soldiers who have put themselves in harm's way in duty to our country: the much-heralded Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act, which passed in July of 2007, and addressed the hideous treatment received by veterans under the Bush administration, was first introduced by Obama.
I found it disturbing that Mr. Evans chose not to attack Senator Hillary Clinton, whose proposed medical insurance plan contains a mandate that goes even further than Senator Obama's toward what Mr. Evans characterizes as "socialized" medicine. So if Obama is nearly a "commie" by Mr. Evans standards, why not Clinton? Perhaps because his middle name is Hussein and hers is Diane?
I am happy to debate the merits of a candidate based on FACTS, but Mr. Evans'

Arlene, I'm sorry you felt you had to snap back at me ("chill out") over my question/comment. Did you see that there are more than a dozen people in this thread alone still using the name?

I think it should be up to each individual community member to chose whether they would like to adopt/retain the name or not.
I don't appreciate someone telling me what I should and shouldn't do, what does and does not 'look cute'.
I didn't join this community to win popularity contests and I'm not here to 'look cute' or agree with everyone abt everything. If I want to make a statement by adopting the middle name Hussein then I will.
I am the best judge of what my actions portray and if I wish to emphatically denounce the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred by adopting the name Hussein then I will, period.
If you do not like it-tough!

I don't know if it's what BO would want, but I think it's a good tactic. It takes the "edge" off of the name. It's almost like using the N-word repeatedly (I know that's a terrible analogy, so, save the outrage). At some point, the name loses its perceived negative connotation and just becomes another common name in American life.
It's a great strategy.

I agree. We are already getting outrageous accusations of being a cult without us creating devices that will distract from our core messages.
MSM always likes to find conflict and oddities to fill their 10 second soundbites. This will be one of them. They will fail to look at the underlying motivation and dwell on the "cultish' appearance of it.
Let's get back to calling each other by our given names and concern ourselves with issues rather than labels.

No one is "telling" you what to do. This is a forum for sharing information and expressing opinions. Each of us is free to conduct ourselves as we see fit. But only by sharing our free and unfettered opinions can we make each other think about other points of view and have a vibrant, forward-thinking campaign.

I hope no one is telling me what to do because if anyone thinks they can instruct me as to how I should or should not denounce the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred they will be very disappointed.
As I have said, I have come to like my new middle name immensely and FULLY intend keeping it. For those that have a problem with that, I can only sympathize coz they need to deal.

I've been a supporter of Senator Obama for many years, back to when he was first in the Illinois Senate. But today, I took a walk back in time on the factcheck.barackobama.com (the link is on the home page), and learned a lot more about Senator Obama than I knew. What an incredible, intelligent, thoughtful and caring man. Anyway, the other point here is that you can quickly see the torture Hillary Clinton has tried to besiege upon this man, and the Obama campaign's debunking/refuting/disspelling of the lies and distortions put forth by the Clinton campaign. As sad it is, I think it's an excellent tool for those who aren't familiar with Senator Obama to get a deep understanding of his past "accomplishments".

I am not a poll prognosticator, but trends in the national polls are foreboding. Mc Cain is leading or tied with Obama in the most recent polls. This has little to do with Barack's vialbility, but more to do with the in-fighting of the Democratic party. The recent debates highlight this problem. When lines from SNL get quoted during the debate we do not look like the party of choice, but the party of pettiness. Please take notice. The party needs to unify and Hillary needs to concede. She is destroying the party. How can we put an end to this?

Apparently you haven't been watching the conflicts between McCain and the conservative radio personalities (comedians). It is hot and heavy. I have no worries about Barack's ability to run a convincing campaign against McCain. McCain is running the same kind of arguments against Barack that Clinton has. So far they aren't working. Look how forcefully Barack responded to McCains attack yesterday.
Make no mistake, this will be a wild and nasty campaign season. The Repubs will pull out the stops to discredit every position Barack takes. It is up to us to stay faithful to the cause and stand up to ignorance at every level.

This small donation shows our strength in numbers and is how we will win the election!

MCCAIN IS INELGIBLE TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT!!!! |

MCCAINES NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN. ACCORDING TO THE LAW HE IS INELGIBLE..... SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?????
STRAIGHT FROM CNN FULL STORY:
Link
FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty:
Here’s something you may not know about John McCain: He was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936. His father was stationed there in the Navy.
The New York Times reports the circumstances surrounding McCain’s birth raise questions about his ability to become president since our founding fathers specifically said only a “natural-born citizen” can hold the highest office in the land. The idea was to prevent foreigners from becoming president.
There’s no precedent for McCain. No U.S. president has ever been born outside the 50 states. But, McCain’s campaign says they’re confident he meets the requirement, that they researched the question during his last run in 2000 and this time around as well. And they have asked former solicitor general Theodore Olson to prepare a legal opinion.
McCain supporter Senator Lindsey Graham says it would be incomprehensible if the son of a military officer born on a military installation couldn’t run for president. He says it would mean telling every military family their child couldn’t become president if born overseas.
There’s been lots of internet buzz about the topic in recent months. Some insist McCain is ineligible. According to lawyers who have studied this stuff, there’s confusion not just over the provision itself, but also over who would have the legal authority to challenge a candidate on such a point.

This topic is time wasting and serves no purpose except to divert our attention from the real issues. The only issue we should be worried about is getting Barack Obama nominated. The last I heard not one of the 4 states voting on March 4th is in the bag.
Get on the phones, canvass, donate. This is bigger than super Tuesday because we can solidify Barack's nomination.

I hope our campaign headquarters will "reject and condemn" this kind of topic, it is stupid, MCcain is an AMerican hero and is qualified and deserve to contest for the POTUS. Though Barack is more qualified and this is not based on where he was born but rather on what he want to do.
CNN and the rest will never focus on real issue, because they are clueless, they all including President Bush got us in the mess we are in so it is not surprising that they are failing this nation again.

Hey Obamanians!
Here's a little Excel spreadsheet that calculates some likely scenarios as the delegate arithmetic is played out over the next few days and weeks:
Link
A clue: Use the spinner to estimate the margins by which Obama needs to win the remaining races to win the nomination.
Pointers:
1. As of today, we need to win by about 88% to completely wipe out any need for superdelegate support (yeah! ;-]);
2. Or by 68% to win with just the SDs we have so far, no matter what the unpledged ones do; or
3. Achieve roughly 50% of the remaining popular vote to win if the remaining unpledged SDs are split down the middle and allocated to either camp.
I've assumed Edwards' delegates will be shared equally too.
Enjoy playing "What if? Hmmm!"
