I know that I am overreacting, but I just HATED that video on the top of this blog. It was frightning, awful and quite upsetting! I know it is supposed to be a motivational video to register voters for Obama...but I still found it upsetting.

Please take it down..there are better ways to motivate us!

I was out registering voters today. Picked up a few more, some folks who had moved in, one for a person who recently turned 18, and helped others find their polling places.

I went to the Obama You Tube channel and saw the video. It scared the sh^& out of me. I did two canvassing shifts and a voter registration table.

My heart skipped a beat when I saw it. If you are not going to take it down at least put a warning label....

It is really important that Obama & Biden remain on the offensive on the question of the Surge and frame their response in a more nuanced manner within the context of the timing and realities on the ground when the Surge was exercised. The following facts must be highlighted on this issue:

1. The Surge must be assessed not purely on military terms but within the overall scope of the prevailing conditions on the ground. It is a fact that when the Surge was finally executed the administration in Washington finally reversed its position on the Sunni's and took a more pragmatic approach of seeing them as an important component of the soluton to the war and making a distinction between Sunni's caught up in ethnic cleansing that had preceded the surge and Al Qaeda in Iraq. The previous stance of the administration was the standard neo-con line of falsely treating all sunni's as Al Qaeda and therefore having no dialogue. One of the major success factors of the surge was the change in attitude in treating Sunni's as part of the solution and having a dialogue rather than treating them whoesale as Al Qaeda. Arguably had this approach been taken at the onset, it would have avoided the very high cost in blood and treasure and the need for the Surge itself.

2. It is important to recognise that by the time the Surge was finally executed Iraq had more or less been ethnically cleansed which was a contributory factor in the reduction of the war casualties given that a lot of the indiscriminate violence was being fuelled by the ethnic cleansing that was going on unabated without a firm action plan from the Administration at the onset of the war. The planning of the war should have taken the ethnic tensions and the potential horrors of ethnic cleansing into calculation at the onset of the war. This again highlights the need for more than just military focus and planning in prosecuting the war.

3. One of the premise of the Surge was to force a movement on the political realities on the ground and included stated objectives of political reconciliation and get the "Oil Law" agreed and concluded and this has still not been achieved.

Please, please stay on the offensive and set the Surge in context rather than staying on the defensive.

At first, I was annoyed that he would agree so readily with a military man, holding such entirely different views and values. I thought, "Stop sucking up! You're going to lose the debate and perhaps the Presidency because having heard the words 'I agree with you' people will stop listening to the rest of your comments!" And, "If you agree with him so much, why don't you vote for McCain." Then it occurred to me. Barack wasn't speaking to me. He was speaking to the millions of Americans who hold, in some corner of their psychic, a trace of prejudice...a remembrance of Mississippi the way it used to be and a longing for that past. He was talking to the South from the South. He became differential to a white military hero! Why did he do this? Because he needed to break through the prejudice so that his values and beliefs could be heard through the prejudicial barrier. It was so important that he do that...that he poised himself in differential terms....that he soften all criticism of McCain, so that he could be heard by the masses who proclaim in their own minds.."I can't vote for this guy...good grief he'll never win...he's Black!"
Note to Barack:
I am sorry Barack that I was so angry with you for not going on the attack. I am also sorry for all the pain that you had to endure because you are perceived as black living in a very white world. It must be so difficult...I know you will disappoint me a thousand times before all of this is over..but you must forgive me...sometimes I just don't get it right away.

This Ad needs to be revised showing the gas prices rising while he is being sworn into office and a mother deciding whether to buy food for her children to eat or deciding if she should pay the light bill and in the end it shows her and her children eating in the dark.

Yes, it certainly elevated my blood pressure-- but it also got my attention and reminded me that the way we lose this is if we get complacent.

Remember NO COMPLACENCY-- make sure you are properly registered and VOTE!

Also-- registered some new voters, make some calls, knock on some doors, write a blog, call your friends and neighbors-- do what you can so that we do NOT wake up on November 5, 2008 with very little hope left in our hearts.

Desperation? Heck no. That was an attention getter to remind us that the ONLY way we lose in November is if WE ARE complacent.

We have seen a great deal of desperation from the other side lately-- and I have little doubt that we will see even more. Yet, most of the arguments we have won-- what is left NOW TO DO is to make certain we register every American who wants to vote before the deadlines in our states and we GET OUT THE VOTE!

BJN I wish you wouldn't send this video out to anyone. Sometimes you get what you say. In other words you can speak evil as well as good into existence. This is why I don't believe Barack approved of this video.

At the very least I think we deserve to know who put it on the blog and why didn't they consider that it would have the opposite effect of what was intended. It has not motivated me to do anymore. I make calls, talk to people in person and donate because I am just as dedicated to this campaign as the person who put this video up.
