Why Signs?

In Idaho leading up to the February caucus there was hardly any signage in our area and many people that wanted to show their support for Barack Obama but could not. I did not want people in others states to have the same issue.

Exposure in the upcoming states is critical!

With this in mind, I took it upon myself to create several signs that people could download and print to show their support for Barack. The signs are in no way a substitute to yard or rally signs, but do serve the purpose of giving people the opportunity to publicly display their support for Barack Obama. Many have found them useful, we exceeded 30,000 downloads this morning.

To supplement my longer signage post, I decided to post the signage entry on my.barackobama.com blog. That way this post can be less in length and people can also bookmark the page.

Also love the Obama response to the Red Phone ad. But here is another idea, counterpunching with humor. Best to air this ad in the middle of SNL:

Red phone ringing in the dark, on the President's desk. Lights go on. Camera zooms on clock reading 3 AM. Shot of Barack's hand picking up the phone. Close up of Barack's mouth, with indistinguishable voice over the phone, then mouth moves, saying: "No, we can not authorize an unprovoked attack. We will get bogged down. It will cost us billions, and thousands of lives. It will take years." More listening, and then, "That's my final answer, and another thing, you have to stop calling me like this, Hillary." Now a full shot of Barack's face, looking into the camera. With a sly smile and a wink, he says, "And I approve this ad."

Or now that Sen. Rochefeller has come out to endorses Obama they should get him in front of a camera really quick since he is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee. He said:

“The indisputable fact is Barack Obama was right about Iraq when many of us were wrong," Rockefeller said in a statement. "It was a tough call and the single greatest national security question, and mistake, of our time."

OR...

They should use Bill Clinton's words:

“Now, one of Clinton’s laws of politics is this. If one candidate is trying to scare you and the other one is try get you to think, if one candidate is appealing to your fears and the other one is appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.”

The problem with SNL is I think that Loren Micheals is a Clinton supporter. Judging from the pro Clinton tirade on SNL last week, the rest of the cast is too. Remember when SNL used to dislike all politicians so they made fun of EVERYONE...That was entertainment!

You know, I only had to watch these once to realize that in the Obama ad, the phone stops ringing after the fourth ring, but in the Clinton ad, it keeps ringing, and ringing, and ringing through the whole ad.

Seriously! If I'm going to vote for a President I want to vote for someone who will PICK UP THE PHONE WHEN IT'S AN EMERGENCY!

Man, the Clinton Campaign just misses all the details!

I just wish we wouldn't respond to the Clinton's smear tactics. So many people are tired of it, and Sen. Clinton is only showing her true colors and making herself look like a real b___. As for a first woman president, she is NOT the one! I just want to appeal to our campaign to take the high road and focus on the presidency and not on Hillary and her smear tactics to win votes or to change minds. I've been on the fence -- Hillary vs. Barack -- for awhile. When Hillary's ad with the children came out today, though, I decided I've had enough of her panicked attacks on him. I've donated to Barack before and am about to donate again; he's consistently taken the high road and behaved the way I want our president to behave. I am in California and have just signed up to volunteer at a phone bank this weekend.

Despite having come to this site and reading all of Barack's ideas about the issues (and agreeing with him wholeheartedly) I've hesitated because a lot of my co-workers and family are backing Hillary, but that ad was disgusting and I've finally had enough of it. Glad to see how many people are here and supporting Obama!

Can someone help me out please! I'm in the middle of a heated e-mail exchange with a friend's husband who is arguing with me about Obama's stance on abortion.

His major issue? He says that Obama denied personhood rights to any baby that survives an abortion. What the hell is he talking about?

Could someone please provide me with some information regarding this specific issue?

Either click onto my profile and send me some info, or just post it on the blog. I'm on my way out the door right now & when I get home....I plan on calling my friends husband & having a little "chat" with him.

I agree with you. There's no such thing as "personhood rights" in my thinking. That's like saying the baby has no right to being a human being. Sounds like he's making stuff up to confuse and frustrate you. Or, rather, he may be confused himself -- very confused. He probably just doesn't want to support Obama no
matter the issue. Determine if that's the case and leave it alone. Otherwise, he'll use his convoluted thinking to trip you up only for the purpose of amusing himself.

It has to do with respecting the constitutional rights as defined by the Supreme court- we have check and balances and this was an inappropriate way to address the issue.
The real issue is that bills start off on 1 topic and have so many add ons and twists that a yes or no on any bill can be distorted to use against a candidate- the system needs fixing is the real issue.

The Rebublicans have deliberately been writing bills with no compromise just to keep the votes 51:49 to make the other side look bad.

I would take a deep breath and realize a heated exchange about a passionate topic will not win someone over-find the common ground- and ask how many abortions were stopped since Bush has been in office due to his policies ? so obviously the answer is not a Presidential mandate or poorly worded bill that is not Constitutional.

It was a poorly worded bill and there are already rights for living children to receive care so it was a distortion just like the current need to pass Bush's telephone spy bill. We already have a law and process to cover this so no need to pass a duplicate.

This issue needs clarity but this bill did not do it and that was intentional as a political ploy.
Bush has not been about accomplishing but about divisions and making the democrats look bad

I heard him address abortion today.

He said that abortion is a moral issue and based on his christian values he consider it a moral problem. However he is Pro-Choice and does not believe that the government has the right to choose on someone behalf, it's a personal decision.

First I agree that a heated exchange is not the way to win over people. You might win the argument, but not heart. And sometimes you might never win one over; don't force it and it's always good to have constructive discussions regardless.

Let me share a story and hope this helps. I was shocked to learn that a deeply religious and usually republican leaning friend out there caucusing for Obama. His reason was very admirable. He may not agree with Obama on all issues, but he's tired of that in the past years only half of the country is happy. Whoever gets in power is only concerned about pushing their own agenda; then the other side takes over and get back at them. It's time we have someone who serves all Americans; and he'd rather have someone from "the other side" but who's willing to listen and work with everyone, than having someone on the home team but totally steps over those who might hold different views.

People might argue that Obama's policies are pretty much all inline with the party. That's true, and the fact is we ARE different and there's noway to agree with everyone. The important thing is to find common grounds, be willing to listen and work with everyone, and have honest and open discussion on differences. And that, is what Obama brings to the presidency.

Now back to your specific question... there are people who are just as passionate about "pro choice" as those about "pro life"; there are good argument that life begins at conception as well as that it begins at birth. It's one of those things we just have to accept that we are different people, each equally passionate about our own beliefs. So let's debate over it, even passionately so, but let's not have that divide us. If you look at W. Bush, it's someone who's "compassionate" and "pro life", yet endorses torture and wrongfully sacrificed so many brave soldiers' lives. To have voted for him over abortion alone would have been obviously blind to truth, and let's not make the same mistake in this election.

Please reconsider releasing this ad. I don't think we will gain anything by copying a fear-ad. It will just make us look just as silly as she is. Also, how are we going to refute it if we essentially do the same thing?

This is not the way for us to win. Come up with a new, different, and better ad, please.

We have no choice but to hit back hard. They can't claim the images are fearful, because they used them as well. The minute we let them get away with these swiftboat-like tactics, they win. I am thrilled that this ad went up IMMEDIATELY after theirs. It tells HRC one thing: We won't take any crap from her. I'm sorry, and it's unpleasant, but it's got to be this way right now.

Actually, I find myself agreeing with Nekia... it probably would be better NOT to release the response ad. We can give the same message without using some of the same image concepts HRC used in hers. Its not about the phone ringing at 3am... hopefully, there is a way to get our message out in a better way. The campaign/media/communications team should be commended for such quick response, but maybe they can look into a better way to reinforce BOs message of "judgment and ready".

Here are a few things I have noticed about Obama Supporters vs Hillary Supporters...

Hillary's Blog (supporter)is very positive, however Hillary (the candidate) is negative towards Obama.
Obama's Blog (supporters) has more rant on the negative things Hillary says/does towards Obama, however, Obama is very respectful towards Hillary.
Hillary's site is resembling the messages that have been on Obama's website for MONTHS.
I ask myself, what does this all mean?

Here is my 2 cents....

We (supporters) of Obama are more bothered by the antics of Hillary than Obama is himself. We rush in to defend him because we never hear disparaging words from his own mouth. On the flip side, Hillary attacks enough, so her supporters do not need to say anything...

What if we were as positive and uplifting as Obama? He needs us and that energy going into the campaign for the next few weeks. I want Obama to become president, and feel that he is going to be the one in November who SWEEPS the elections. However, we DO not need to isolate the other half of the democratic party. THEY ARE US, and we need them.

I like it. It was an almost immediate response, and not surprising after I watched the "inside look at his campaign" on one of the networks, not sure which. The campaign seems to have a highly organized, modern as hell, smooth running facility.

Back to the Barack response, I think it was approprite. People will see it again and think it's the same hillary ad, but wait, woah. That was quick, that was fast, and he use his judgement.

Obama is the most objective thinker we've had as a candidate as we've had in years. If you've read his books, surely you understand how his life experience was an incredible asset to the way he has such a balanced mind he just seems to be right on so many things, and the key to his success, or at least intense attraction, is the understanding of his outstanding objectivity.

Objectivity is why he can make such sound, logical, carefully thought out and carefully worded explanations for the why he votes a certain way.

I was just reading on his veto on the bill that was an attempt to get around roe v wade, abortions of viable fetus, etc. Or so it was worded. His reasons were based on objectivity and a solid understanding of the Constitution. Having taught Constitutional Law at the University level is proof he now understands how issues relate to the Constitution inside and out. As a teacher, once I've taught a course several times, I know I don't fully understand a topic or until I've successfully taught topic or skill.

Barack should repsond quickly to any attacks on judgment and character. Those are some of his greatest strengths, and they are valid and based on his professional career.

He understands how our government needs to work from a Constitutional perspective.

I bring up the gruesome abortion bill veto because his reasoning's been solid. He said he would have voted for the bill if it included a clause not to infringe upon Roe v Wade. A previous version of the bill included this, but not the one up for a vote. His total understanding of the wording of EVERYTHING shows how carefully he thinks out an issue.

I taught conditional statements in a grammar class just recently. As I heard his response int he debate over going after Iraq IF they asked us to get out, to which he replied if they are recognized as a sovereign nation, they have the right to do so and we must respect that. So we'd have to leave under that premise. On to, so would you then strike on al queda in iraq if we had gone? Yes, I would strike at al queda in Iraq IF THEY WERE in Iraq. He responded to a conditional question with a grammatically correct, at least the conditional parts -- ifs and woulds and weres -- that correctly answered thie question reflecting his views, under the understanding that this is a conditional inquiry. Hypothetical, essentially.

This is why he's criticized for convoluted responses. Some people don't get his logical, carefully worded statements because HIS SKILLS in those areas are SUPERIOR to well, damn near most of us. He's light years ahead of me, and it's my job to teach thse same concepts and skills to my students on a daily basis.

Isn't it amazing how he connects with so many different people on so many different levels and in so many different ways? His rationality, and how to use it as an advantage is part of the big mystery behind his success.

I'm also convinced that the sheer and collective energy -- physical, mental, emotional, educational, spiritual -- collective and of the people, will actually will him to the status of POTUS.

Then again, I'm a latte-drinking, sandal-wearing, body pierced, educator, so I guess I fit the lampooned version of the typical Obama cult member. So I must be an Obamaphile suffering from Obamaitis.

Or so they say. If there's an us and them, it's simply those who understand his strengths and those who don't or can't.

We DO have to respond to all HRC's inaccurate claims immediately...to offset leaving people with a bad impression and image of Sen. Obama. We have to remember that a lot of people still don't know Sen. Obama. They all know HRC because of Bill Clinton...name recognition goes a long way.

John Kerry admitted that one of his own mistakes was not responding to the 2004 swiftboad ad soon enough...and I'm sure he's advising Sen. Obama not to allow any false claims to linger out there for the public to absorb as the truth.

I am thrilled that Sen. Obama is running a very positive campaign...and that he immediately responds to false/negative attack ads...by setting the record straight.

There's a metaphor in his release of the ad that simply proves his point:

She suggests in an attack she would act swiftly.

He actually does react swiftly, and attacks back in a way that can't be questioned.

It metaphorically shows better judgment and ability to be commander in chief.

The ad is ironic. It is great BECAUSE it turns the tables on Hillary. It exposes the absurdity of Hillary's ad, and at the same time demonstrates that Barack can go toe to toe with Hillary on Hillary's own terms any time he wants to. Barack's ad is an example of countering a weak jab with a knock-out blow.

last night on ALL the nightly news shows they were pumping up Hillary like no tomorrow. Even showing how she "worked with republicans" to get stuff done. The republicans want hillary against mccain becuase they have so much DIRT on her and her husband that they can cream them in the national election. They have squat on Obama and they know it. He is pretty squeeky clean. The republicans and the current government as well as corporate america are SCARED stiff of Obama. Obama is only one part of the solution my friends. We have to ALSO bring our new voices to our current senators and representatives. Find out what they have REALLY been doing. Obama documents his experience in the ad. He explains why he's the better person to answer that red phone.

Hillary just says trust me without providing any evidence that she can be trusted.

After her episodes last week she's proven she doesn't have the temperament to be president or to answer the red phone. She was hysterical last Saturday.

I was hoping we would get a response ad out today.

Dark room. A phone rings a few times. A lamp on a night stand comes on. A feminine hand reaches for the phone receiver. A young feminine voice mutters a "Hello?" After a few seconds the young feminine voice says, "Hey, wake up. I think it's for your wife." The cracking voice of an older man with an Arkansas accent says, "Why doesn't she have that phone put in her own room?"

Agreed. Look, this guy is real. He hits right back.. AND he answers the phone. The ringing phone in Hillary's bothered me and I didn't know why. I now realize it was because the constant ringing made me anxious, fearful. So our guy gets it right. He actually picks up and gets it right.

Way to go campaign! I feel much more confident that we can handle what the Repubs will send our way.

I really think this is a bad ad, replying to an add about fear with another add about fear. Better to show images of Obama and his stance against Iraq with the voice over of Bill Clinton below:

I agree with GS. Also, it is a bit too tit for tat for a cool guy like Obama. It is a fear ad. He should have come back, yes. But with something different. This, I think, was too rushed. Not thought out that well. Maybe it nullifies her ad, but it seems silly game playing to me. I hope he takes it off.

We should be running ads that show emphasize our core messages, rather falling into the trap of running a campaign that is primarily responding to Hillary with copy cat ads.

Hillary's ad is awful, trying to use fear, fear for the safety of our children as campaign tactic.

We've had too many years where the message has been "Be afraid, be very afraid."

That's what we are hoping to change with this campaign.

I think his speech addressed her attack ad quite well.

The issue is what kind of judgment you use when you answer the phone.

The bottom line is that we have so much more to offer.

We can't afford four more years of fear.

We can't afford four more years of war.

We can't afford four more years without health care.

We can't afford four more years of devisive, business as usual politics in Washington.

I agree we need to respond, and quickly. And it is wonderful that the campaign was responded so quickly to this. But then we need to get back to our core message.

I saw this on Hardball, they ran Hillary's ad and then Barack's speech and then basically even Hillary's supporters dismissed it as a weak try to gain some traction.

We are above using fear tactics.

I don't like this ad because it does use fear. I don't think Barack needed a response to her tastless add. Why do the same thing? I think the better response would have been an ad featuring a child working on homework, asking a parent who they are going to vote for and why. That could be a powerful response.

I would agree that it might be answering fear with fear if we focus only on the content. But maybe the more subtle message is that Obama responded so quickly to Clinton's attack that he's ready to respond to any crisis just as quickly and effectively.

You're missing the point. The ad is ironic. The ad is not about fear, it is about Hillary and her fearmongering. Barack is turning Hillary's fearmongering right back in her face. Hillary wanted this particular fight - Barack is replying by telling her to be careful what she wishes for.

Someone near and dear to my heart is in Iraq as I type. That is some dangerous stuff. I have friends who lived in NYC on 9/11/01. That was not only dangerous, but on OUR soil.

Remember, we are in a Democratic race (even though Hillary seems to be playing the Republican role). Despite our own beliefs, Bill Clinton was our last Democratic president and a lot of her support comes from people that support him. Bill's words carry weigh in her camp.

Whatever response a person had to the imagery in the beginning of her ad, they will have the exact same response to the beginning of this one. EXCEPT, when they realize it's touting him and not her, they'll have no choice but to do a double-take. And at that point, they will either discount BOTH ads (= hers is nullified) or actually give a moment's thought to, "Hmmmm, yeah. What kind of judgment DO I want picking up that phone?

It's PR jiu jitsu. Uses the opponent's motion and energy against them.

I don't think that the Obama ad was about fear at all. It was more comforting knowing that the POTUS will not only answer the phone, but will have the RIGHT answer, once on the phone.

I'm happy that this campaign is standing their ground and NOT allowing HRC to get away with any negative attack ads against Obama. The public in the upcoming states don't really know Obama, and if attack ads are left out there to linger in their minds...they will accept it as the truth. Immediate responses are always best.

Ok . . . the Obama team is so awesome. I have to admit that I was tickled pink about how quickly that show back at her. What was so funny was not only the commercial that they used to answer Clinton's, but what Barack actually said today in response to the ad. I am so glad he decided to run for President. His intelligence, character, personality and judgement are unquestionable. Just look at the way he is destroying Goliath . . . in mean the Clinton machine. I can't wait until March 4th!

Here is what Barack had to say when he heard about Clinton's new "Red Phone" ad:

Obama struck back hard at Clinton over the ad in remarks to veterans at a town hall meeting at an American Legion post in Houston. Hillary's "3:00 a.m." ad shows that some politicians think you can still fool some of the people some or all of the time. Sure, she'll make the big decision before consulting and verifying! Sounds like Bush..surround yourselves with cold war thinkers. That's experience? We already had that experience. I'm afraid of a President who thinks that America will swallow that ad. That's eveything that's wrong with America today: politicians who think the citizen's are emotional and stupid. No, voting citizen's think before we act and we expect the same from our leaders.

Well said..I've been thinking about this exact thing lately with the media spinning out of control. Have been wondering whether or not most American's are going to believe the mistatements, twisted logic and fear mongers. When I start to lose hope, my mind takes me back to the last debate and how incredibly crystal clear it was to me who would make the best president. I walked away from watching the debate thinking to myself, like many of you have said, how thankful I was that Barack decided to run. What a huge difference in class, intelligence, judgment, maturity, decency and vision! No comparison whatsoever.

I watched Bill Mayer last night and one of his pannell members had a story about Chelsey being sick at school. The office wanted to call to let them know she was sick and they were going to call her mom...She replied " Please call my dad, my mom is too busy to take that call." That brought a roar of laughter from the crowd!!! I myself was in histerics laughing my head off!! She will say anything to get elected...boy if you can't answer the phone for your own daughter then how can we expect you to answer it for a nation??? Did anyone see this last night on Bill Mayer's HBO show??

I understand what you are all saying, but the truth of the matter is that the Clintons, Bush, and McCain campaigns are all attacking him anyway.

Obama has to defend himself. He's not on the offensive here. I love Senator Obama and even though I don't agree with everything, I respect the Obama campaign's judgement.

Please don't pull away over this. If he responds to Clinton, then we get upset and his opponents call him weak. He has ALREADY changed the way we view politics and he is not perfect. Let's support him.

Trust me, I understand. But he is still trying to win.

Some of you on here who are having a problem with Sen. Obama's response ad should appreciate the fact this is a Presidential Campaign, not a friendly game of bridge. I'm certain that if Sen. Obama is elected some of these tactics will become extent. Do you realize what we are doing? We are attempting to change the mindset of how the U.S. engages in political discourse. It's not going to change overnight. Sen. Obama reminds us on a daily basis that this "movement for change" is going to be hard. However in the meantime, he has every right, and should defend his ability to be Commander-in-Chief, which is being called into question by Sen. Clinton in that 3 am Ad.

I don't think this ad is anything close to Clinton. It may look like it could be the same, but Obama goes much deeper than the fear that Clinton ad is attempting to instill. Obama is about creating a future that is not built on fear, but on right choices, and decisions. If I have to live in a country that I am worried about a phone ringing at 3:00 am. in the White House, than that tells me I made the wrong choice when I voted. I want to know that the 3:00am. phone call will be dealt with by the person who knows what to do when the phone ring on day one. Not have to come back to the Country and appoligize for the wrong choice on day one.

I trust my life with Obama, because I know who will answer the phone.

Yep, legit person here, too. The fact is that clearly some of us had a similar negative reaction to the ad, but we're all enthusiastic enough about Obama that we're frequenting his blog multiple times a day and happened to post around the same time. There are over a MILLION donors, remember? Anyway, I'm still firmly behind Obama and not trying to kill everyone's buzz out there, but this ad was not one of the campaign's classier moves, imho, and if you scroll down this thread you'll see similar views sprout up periodically. You don't have to be part of some shadowy HRC conspiracy to not love EVERYTHING the campaign does.

Well, the argument is a moot point because the ad is out there, why don't we find out what the response of the undecided voters are before making judgments whether we thinks its a good ad or not.

I've read a lot of Hillary supporters that use the argument that they are afraid of what might happen if Obama is President, well, let's not fall into that same trap that we should be fearful of the reaction of the video.

There might be a great public response, just as Obama might be a great president.

An answer to a negative add will not make it negative. This is just a mathematical logic. If you face a problem and you have to solve it, then you have to start from the problem itself and give a solution to it. That is how logic works.

The ad has not ran yet. It runs in the morning. I tend to agree with you on some level. However, if any percentage of people believe this crap he has to frame the conversation in the same way. Those of us who are not affected by fear, will not be bothered by the ads since we know she played the fear card first. But those who are affected it gives him a chance to say he has better judgement and is ready.

Based on Mrs. Clinton mood swings this week, I am not sure if anyone will buy her readiness argument.

No, his ad was not a mistake. Hillary raised the spectrum of fearmongering and Obama has to qualm the fears of the electorate. Part of the oath of the USA Presidency is to protect the American people. He has to let us know why he is the best person to secure our liberties. He addressed it by answering the question of one of his future constituents--Hillary and I think that he did a fine job in doing so.

He has other ads to address other issues. This is important because the Republicans always say that Democrats are soft on defense. He is assuring us that he will strike when necessary not just to go to war like the Republicans before using diplomacy and saving lives.

She has raised a question as to who would be most ready to deal with a crisis...he is simply answering the question. 1. HRC's ad has been running HEAVILY for the past 24 hours and has been in rotation on both CNN and MSNBC all day today - because they continued to replay it, in entirety, all day today. I am an Obama supporter and KNEW that it would absolutely call into question his ability to lead as Commander-in-Chief. It's already made a psychological impact.

2. Based on earlier posts, and from what I saw on NBC Nightly News, Obama's ad won't begin airing until tomorrow. Everyone in Texas and Ohio know whose ad came first. It's clear.

3. Barack's ability to protect America has been called into question constantly by McCain and now HRC - in the most blatant way.

He MUST respond immediately and soundly - with the facts. He did so in this response ad, and it is brilliant. Simply brilliant. It ends with a positive feeling of hope and safety...not fear and angst, as does HRC's ad.

I have close friends in Texas - Republicans. They saw HRC's ad and almost decided to vote for McCain. This response is sure to change many skeptical minds.

I agree with your posts on this issue (and most in general).

I just moved from San Antonio (to DFW area) and I would like to use an analogy from the NBA.

The Spurs (San Antonio Spurs NBA champions) are a great team for many reasons, but there is one reason in particular. They neutralize the other team's best scorer/player with Bruce Bowen. So, when you take away a good team's best player, then they are left almost fangless.

The enemy is, in some sense, neutered.

This was the best punch that Hillary or McCain (a 1 trick pony - national security is the only issue that he can win with) can throw. This effective retort minimizes the damage that can be done with this type of attack. Agreeing that Afghanistan made sense, but the war against Iraq did not make sense eliminates the charge of pacifism and is a position that most Americans agree with. Hence, neither McCain nor HRC can win with this type of attack.

Had we not responded in this manner, we would have been perceived as weak on national defense (even in the face of an unpopular war). Republicans win elections based upon the fear of the general electorate on national security issues. They are afraid to trust democrats on national security issues. Therefore, this had to be directly challenged in its central contention.

The other point that I would make is that this ad in some sense points out the fallacy of fear mongering decision making. In other words, the result of caving into fear was GETTING INTO THE IRAQ WAR. Hence, this ad shows that MAKING DECISIONS BASED UPON NATIONAL SECURITY FEARS IS A BAD IDEA.

So, in a very real sense, this ad actually does what the critics of the ad claim they want to do: (not legitimize this way of thinking). It actually makes their point better for them. They simply haven't realized this yet.

Perhaps this post can help nudge them to realize that the ad makes the point they want.

I haven't seen credible evidence from the critics that significant mistakes have been made by the campaign or that they would do a better job (even on the minor contentions).

Without proof, you are expecting the rest of us to take your word on the belief that you know better than Barack and the campaign. I don't buy it.

Um, I have to tell you that the 3AM phone is ringing right now - and it's getting louder.

"Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are statistically tied in Texas while the New York Democrat holds a slight lead in Ohio, according to a new poll out Friday of the crucial March 4 primary states.

According to a new poll from Fox News, Clinton holds an 8-point lead in Ohio (46-38 percent), buoyed by demographics that have carried her to victory in previous primaries — white women, seniors, and members of the working class.

Obama has a slight edge in Texas (48-45 percent), but is statically tied with the New York Democrat there given the poll's 4 percentage point margin of error. The poll suggests Clinton's base is holding up in the state, but that support is not enough to overtake Obama's strong advantage among independent and African-American voters.

Factoring in the Fox poll, a CNN analysis of the most recent surveys from Ohio and Texas show Clinton with a 7-point lead in Ohio and Obama up by 4 in Texas.

The new poll comes on the same day both presidential campaigns sought to raise the other's expectations next Tuesday. Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said Clinton needs to garner decisive wins to chip away at the Illinois senator's significant lead among pledged delegates. But Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson contended that Obama should win all the March 4 contests given that he outspent Clinton nearly 2 to 1 in those states."

The Zogby/CNN/HOuston Chronicle tracking poll shows that things have tightened up in Texas; and the most important thing -- on Friday, she was winning by double digits.

It means we have to counteract her negativity and overwhelm her with votes by the good people of Texas, Ohio, Vermont and Rhode Island.

She's already changed her talking points to say that if he doesn't sweep all four states it shows "buyer's remorse" on the part of the people.

A lot of mud was slung on Thursday. I calmed down when I saw a lot of it wasn't covered Friday on CNN and MSNBC, but evidently it got out there and did damage. I've never seen so much mud slung on one day.

So we have to double our efforts as much as possible.

I have complete faith that we can win this.

It's a very smart move to immediately address the Clinton negative TV ads with a much better and positive TV ad. It's also unfortunate for Clinton that she is in such denial of her losses in so many states that she continues to work on ruining the Democratic Party. When the playing field is level, Barack Obama wins. Because Hillary Clinton knows she will probably lose Texas and Ohio, she wants to sue the DNC to get those delegates. I guess her strategy is if you can't win them fairly, just sue the DNC to get them. Wow, what a strategy.

Barack Obama continues to give positive speeches that capture the heart of America because he is so honest, sincere, and stresses his concerns for making a change that we can all believe in. I can't image Hillary Clinton (Bush supporter of the war)speaking through my TV, in my home, after she has told so many lies, distorted the truth, stared at Barack Obama during each debate with the hatred of a bigot, clearly showed us what a fake smile looks like, and continues to do the same as she travels through our country. I like knowing that my voice will finally be heard when Barack Obama is elected President of the United States.

Does anyone know how to make a youtube video? I was just watching a video on youtube where HRC is doing an interview in which she is talking about various issues. At one point, around 6 minutes into it, she starts talking about an election in another country. She says it is not a real election because there is only one name on the ballot. Analysts in Washington were stunned Friday when the soul of Presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) switched its support from her to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in the campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

"This was a very hard decision to make," Clinton's soul said during a brief statement to reporters. "Hillary Clinton is my friend, my collegue, and the moral vessel within which I inhabit."

Clinton's soul is only the latest longtime supporter and Democratic National Convention superdelegate to jump ship to Obama, following on the heels or Rep. John Barrow (D-GA), Rep. John Lewis and Hillary's own heels.

"Hillary would be a great president," Clinton's heels said during a telephone interview with the website Politico.com. "But 11 victories in a row, with a steady rise in the polls should convince her that now is the time to bring the party toegether."

Asked whether the announcement was timed to influence the upcoming March 4 elections in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont, her soul demurred. "It was time," it said. "Once I heard about contesting the Texas caucuses... and following that whole 'this state is too small' or 'that caucus shouldn't count' and 'gotta seat Michigan' stuff... there's only so much I could bear."

This marks the first time more than two body parts have ever supported their Democratic body's opponant. However, the record is much harder to beat on the GOP side, when in December of last year, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's left leg, spleen, gall bladder, sternum and cocyx all declared their support for former Massachussetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

"He just gives us the creeps," Giuliani's gall bladder said in a posting left on its Facebook page. "I know his bile better than anyone. You don't want it near the White House.

HRC campaign is not threatening to sue over the Texas caucus rules - that is the last thing they want to do. Any law suit would take weeks or longer to resolve; they don't have the luxury of that much time. Instead, they are trying to preempt voter disenfranchisement by addressing potential problems in advance and reaching agreement with the Obama camp as to how those potential problems will be handled. The allegation, that HRC is threatening a legal challenge is just another example of the deceptive practices of the Obama campaign - of inventing positions of the Hillary campaign in order to discredit and attack those invented positions. And the Media plays along.

Both sides are asking for clarification of the rules, for good reason. As in previous primaries this year, there is concern that the state democratic party has not adequately planned for the expected turn out and the "rules" do not adequately address the problems that could ensue. For example, overcrowding, long lines, not enough precinct chairs, all could lead to voter disenfranchisement. Clarification of rules with respect to these potential problems is necessary to protect voter rights and achieve a smooth caucus.

They had the guy in charge of elections in Texas on the radio today and he said that the Hillary campaign is very very concerned and upset and unclear about the process. He did say the Obama campaign has some concerns but no where near the Clinton's.

Like everywhere else she has lost or is losing, she is attempting to taint votes for Sen. Obama by painting, this time, the Texas "2 step" primary/caucus as unfair. Ironically, Bill Clinton has twice participated in this hybrid primary. They didn't think it was unfair then.

For God's sake, all feminists should denounce and reject this woman as she is proving all those stereotypes of women to be true! What an embarrassment!!

The Obama campaign had nothing to do with this idea that Hillary might sue the Texas democratice party. It was reported on MSNBC this morning and has no connection whatever with Obama. It was the democratic party of Texas that claimed Hillary was threatening to sue.

Geez PAdude, if you are going to accuse the Obama campaign of "deceptive practices", at least have some evidence on your side.

"If it is true that litigation is imminent between one or both of your campaigns and the Texas Democratic Party, such action could prove to be a tragedy for a reinvigorated democratic process that is involving a record number of participants here in Texas and across the nation," party attorney Chad Dunn wrote. "Litigation regarding the TDP could cripple the momentum of a resurging Texas Democratic Party and ultimately the November 2008 election."

The letter also noted that many of Clinton's senior campaign advisers in Texas had helped to develop the rules governing the state's caucus system. A Texas party official also noted that former President Clinton won the state's caucuses in 1992 and 1996 following the same rules."

We aren't fighting Hillary's battles for her. Seeing as she already has to fight a lawsuit in California about her fundraising, she needs to ease up on starting new ones.

I don't know how I feel about it.

It doesn't fear-monger, and it's a response that shows that the Obama campaign won't take that kind of thing lying down. It's a rapid and direct response. Those are commendable elements.

I just like messages of hope so much more.

Kev, you were one of the first voices on this blog when I was new that made me feel welcome, with your go-positive, stay-positive message.

I think I need a break. I am unlikely to be sorely missed, but I will look forward to seeing your g+s+ signature line when I plug back in on March 5th.

As an aside, I make a lot of phone calls. I think my curiosity helps me a lot – because I really do like to hear what other people think. One of the things I have been curious about is how people felt about NAFTA when Clinton signed it. - Without exception, no matter what state I am calling, people tell me they didn't think it was a good idea. I didn't either – I'm old enough to remember and I wondered, “How is this good for us?” I thought I had to be missing something. ...time has shown me to be right – me, and EVERY SINGLE person I have asked.

Here's the article that really pointed out to ME why HRC being president is going to make it impossible for me to balance my budget. I'll be honest with you – I could never figure out why Mitt Romney didn't do better, considering his seemingly brilliance regarding the economy. I have a feeling, those people who didn't vote for him looked at how seriously he hurt his own state with health care...the same plan HRC has.

Remember in the debate when Barack Obama said, “Her plan is good for the insurance company – his plan is good for the people.”? Hillary made no attempt to disagree. This is my opinion – Hillary, in every way is great for her lobbyists, not the people...they funded her campaign. We the people have funded Barack's campaign – HE is good for us.

Throughout this campaign we have had a huge up-hill battle because of people voting early – those early votes almost always go to Hillary because of name recognition or because they remember the Clinton years as good years, not realizing they set us up for the bad years to come – how could anyone ever guess that Bush would screw things up even further giving tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans and throwing the rest of us to the curb! We ARE in a mess. We need a leader who is FOR US, the people...the top 2% income earners will be fine – most of us need to survive and heal.

Sen. Hillary Clinton has declined to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at a company accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record, federal campaign records show.

The federal government has accused the Illinois management consulting firm, International Profit Associates, or IPA, of a brazen pattern of sexual harassment including "sexual assaults," "degrading anti-female language" and "obscene suggestions."

In a 2001 lawsuit full of lurid details, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission claims that 103 women employees at IPA were victimized for years. The civil case is ongoing, and IPA vigorously denies the allegations.

"This is by far, hands down, the worst case I've ever experienced," said Diane Smason, one of the EEOC lawyers handling the lawsuit. "Every woman there experienced sex harassment, they were part of a hostile work environment of sex harassment. And this occurred from the top down."

Sen. Clinton's spokesman, Howard Wolfson, told NBC News in a statement that the senator decided to keep the funds because the lawsuit is "ongoing" and because none of the sexual harassment allegations has been proven in court.

"With regard to the pending harassment suit, as a general matter, the campaign assesses findings of fact in deciding whether to return contributions," Wolfson said.

"One of [Barack's] first [assignments] was campaign finance reform. Illinois had one of the least regulated campaign finance systems in the country and a history of corruption. Paul Simon, the former United States senator, was running a public policy institute at Southern Illinois University and asked each of the four legislative leaders to name a trusted lawmaker to work on a bipartisan ethics bill.

Mr. Jones recalls receiving a call from Abner J. Mikva, a former Chicago congressman, federal judge and friend of Mr. Simon. Judge Mikva, who had once tried to hire Mr. Obama as a law clerk, suggested him for the job. Mr. Jones says he knew that the new senator was hard-working and bright and that few others would want the assignment.

“He caught pure hell,” Mr. Jones said of Mr. Obama. “I actually felt sorry for him at times.”

The job required negotiating across party lines to come up with reform proposals, then presenting them to the Democratic caucus. Senator Kirk Dillard, the Republican Senate president’s appointee, said, “Barack was literally hooted and catcalled in his caucus.” On the Senate floor, Mr. Dillard said, “They would bark their displeasure at me, and then they’d unload on Obama.”

Mr. Obama entered the discussions favoring contribution limits, said Mike Lawrence, now director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University. But he realized they had no chance of passing. So the legislation, passed in 1998, banned most gifts by lobbyists, prohibited spending campaign money for legislators’ personal use and required electronic filing of campaign disclosure reports.

“I know he wanted to limit contributions by corporations or labor unions, and he certainly wanted to stop the transfers of huge amounts of money from the four legislative caucus leaders into rank-and-file members’ campaigns,” Mr. Dillard said. “But he knew that would never happen. So he got off that kick and thought disclosure was a more practical way to shine sunlight on what sometimes are unsavory practices.”

The disclosure requirement “revolutionized Illinois’s system,” said Cindi Canary, executive director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. By giving journalists immediate access to a database of expenditures and contributions, it transformed political reporting. It also, she said, “put Senator Obama on a launching pad and put the mantle of ethics legislator on his crown.”"

It diminishes his attack of Hillary playing on our fears. Because it's the same ad as hers.

Having said that this is only one of very few missteps by this campaign. And I'm still calling non-stop to get this man elected!
