Two things burn me about McCain's position on the war. (And remember: HIllary helped drive the bus into the ditch.)

One, the "surge" is not a strategy. He keeps saying that the surge is working. The generals went along with the name "the surge" because they're too busy fighting the war to worry about marketing and branding. But a "surge" is not a strategy; it is a logistical means to support a strategy. And McCain has confused the success that comes with more manpower (and superior combat power by any sense of the definition) with strategic and political success. Of course if you put more boots on the ground, especially more American boots, you're going to get the job done. But are you going to change the geopolitical landscape of Iraq so that those troops can come home? No, obviously, because a year later, nothing has changed.

Second, he belittles Obama by saying that we're still in Germany, Japan, and Korea, so of course we'll still be in Iraq in 100 years, and Obama doesn't understand that. What McCain doesn't understand is that we are not still in Panama or Grenada: military action does not equate to a mandatory forced presence forever. Germany, Korea, and Japan are all historical context dependent. In fact, Germany and Japan paid us to remain long after the reason for being there was gone, and the Korean War technically never ended, so that is a very unique situation. McCain says Obama isn't ready to be CinC and doesn't understand military history. I saw, McCain is mixing apples and oranges... no, apples and turnips in making a stretch of an argument to score political points

Yesterday at the county convention, I shared a trend among many of the youth and young adults who I see in my practice. The majority of them can not name any dreams, either modest or grand. The future seems vague,static and depressing. They have few role models and even a rarer belief in their ability to exert control over their destiny - they have no insight into any internal locus of control. As a result, feeling powerless and disenfranchised, they have been heavily involved in drugs, given up on an education and have resulting mood and behavioral concerns, often with law enforcement involvement.

I've been thinking about this Generation Y - those young adults who remember the last years of Clinton and now have had 8 years of Bush. Imagine coming of age and looking to the future with this national leadership with its messages full of fear, uncertainty,war and corporate profit. Imagine, as an adolescent, a constant national message with the tone of "you don't count", "you don't make a difference" and "this is as good as it gets". How bleak for them and how sad that our country have failed these youth. My experience with these young adults speaks volumes to me as why we need the intelligent, inspired and unifying leadership of Barack Obama - to set and share the belief that hopes and dreams are critical, and with hard work, possible.

I share this again since, today, Barack Obama published a piece about the need to reclaim the American Dream and I thought I'd share as it reflects the "fierce urgency of now" regarding this movement. Please see below on the blog.

I lifted the text from a FirstRead comment, and have LONG been critical of the way in which Senator Clinton is supplying GOP ammo against Obama, largely by way of Mark Penn's association with Charlie Black... but here's her own words (apparently, I didn't see the NBC clip personally, but if anyone has a link... because MANY MANY democrats, or those who are strongly against the war, would not vote for someone who even remotely liked John McCain):

There is no doubt in my mind that the Clintons WILL NOT enthusiastically support Obama. The way she has conducted herself throught this campaign and more recently points to the fact that the Clintons will harbor bad feelings.

If they didn't work hard for Kerry you know they're not going to work hard for Obama. There's no question in my mind - Bill and Hillary will be praying for a McCain victory. They're just that petty and vengeful.

All politics is local, it is up to the local democratic party and young voters to rally and support BO. The Clinton factor in Kerrys' election is debatable. Mr. Clinton was wounded by numerous scandals and his presence in Ohio and in Florida even hurt Kerry chances.
We lost numerous seats as; Governors, Senators and Congressmen during his second term. He has lost all his credibility, so called "Aura" ; has no impact... In his stumping in Ohio, he hardly attracted the crowd!! In my area I did not even bother to see him...

In attending the ongoing seminar in democracy that is the Obama HQ Blog, I did some research the other night to dig (not digg) up the Wikipedia entry on Saul Alinsky, the father of grassroots community organizing. Actually I wondered whether Alinsky coined the phrase (he did not, it was coined in 1912 in reference to the Progressive Party out of Wisconsin).

To my astonishment the Wikipedia entry Link notes the following:

"Alinsky was the subject of Hillary Rodham's senior honors thesis at Wellesley College, "There Is Only The Fight...": An Analysis of the Alinsky Model.[8] Rodham commented on Alinsky's "charm," but rejected grassroots community organizing as outdated. Once Hillary Rodham Clinton became First Lady of the United States, the thesis was suppressed by the White House for fear of being associated too closely with Alinsky's ideas.[9]

Alinsky also had a significant influence on Barack Obama, who is a United States Senator and candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.[8] Obama particularly used Alinsky's techniques while participating in Chicago community organizations in the 1980s."

So there you have it: One candidate who believes in the people and one who doesn't and never has. Now the grassroots are carrying our candidate to victory. Isn't it wonderful?

Let's do this thing and take back America. Vote Obama in 08.

I just finished 20 calls to Vermont. The folks there are eager to talk about the issues, and want to be informed. There's lot's of support for Barack, and I helped two folks who were on the fence commit to Barack.

I hope a call has gone out to lawyers to volunteer to man the polls in TX and OH.

It's all over the news that the Clintons are going to trying to cheat. They sent out a memo to their precinct captains in TX to take control just as they did in NV.

Please - ask four lawyers to work in shifts at each polling site.

We're too close to allow HRC to steal it now. If we haven't learned anything else through this year-long campaign, we've learned that there is nothing the Clintons will not do when their back is up against the wall.

Please - get the lawyers out there.

All Obama family members in OH and TX please get your camcorders out and monitor the polling stations. We need video tape of whatever the Clintons are planning. From reading in the news the Clintons are planning to do whatever it takes to win TX and OH.

The only worry I have in Ohio the enormous voter turn out in Cleveland and local suburbs, they are running low in paper ballot and under staff to meet the demands.

Max Kennedy, son of Robert Kennedy, spoke at the Waco field headquarters of Sen. Barack Obama Saturday night. Standing on a chair, he addressed the crowd of about 50 Obama supporters, delivering a short, but powerful, message of hope and the need for change.

"I've never felt this good about a candidate in my life," Kennedy said. "I've never seen a person generate the kind of energy that's in this very room tonight."

Kennedy said he was fully convinced that Obama will win Texas, and that the small organizations like the very field office the group stood in that night would make the difference.

"This election is similar to the election of 1960," Kennedy said. "In 1960, there was a huge shift. It was the first time the grassroots organizations had altered the hands of the president. What you guys are doing here is amazing; it's just what we need to win the state of Texas."

He encouraged the group to continue their efforts by manning the phone banks, making sure their friends were signed up to vote, and that every person they knew was informed about the great change that Obama could create.

And there's an article in Huffington Post that says Kathleen Kennedy Townsend thinks that Hillary is finished, and that she blames Bill's racially insensitive comments in SC, as well as very poor campaign management for the impending defeat.

She's Robert Kennedy's daughter, and previously, a HRC supporter.

IMPORTANT / IMPORTANT / IMPORTANT
To all Texans going to the caucuses: I strongly urge you to bring a camcorder so you can record any monkey business by Clinton operatives and/or any incompetent elections officials. We already know Clinton has instructed her supporters to seize control of caucus proceedings. There are MANY people who fear the caucuses will be a mess, given the huge turnout that is expected and the fierce competition between the two campaigns.

Witnessing something gone awry is not enough. You have to record it. Document it. You need to get in people's faces. Demand names, positions, affiliations. Get it on tape. Yes, Barack's team will have an army of staffers deployed, but they can't be everywhere at once. Ditto the news media.

If someone is trying to pull a fast one, you need to contact Barack's campaign ASAP. The next move should be an all-points bulletin to all local media outlets. I have spent an hour getting contact #'s for major TV stations in cities across the state. I will post them after this message.

Please copy and paste the numbers, print them, and forward them to EVERYONE you know who will be caucusing. Vigilance, vigilance!!

Dear Gang, I just got back from volunteering in RI. It was a great experience. Unfortunately, I had to come back sooner than I'd like! A wonderful group of people in the Providence office. And on Sat. morning we were mobbed!! with canvas volunteers. Anyone thinking of volunteering at a field office or canvassing... I really recommend it! I had a terrific time. Check on my blog later. I plan to write it the experience.

I have never been inspired by a political candidate like I have been with Barack Obama. He is the right man for the job, and he has the leadership qualities required and the plans in place to get the job done and restore hope to Americans from every walk of life, every political party, every race & ethnicity, and every financial background. His campaign is funded by the people, and he will help people like you and me when he is our next President.

I've made phone calls over the last few weeks to voters in Virginia, Maryland, Wisconsin, Hawaii, and Ohio. I've been doing other ground work on my own, including sending emails and messages almost daily to friends and family. And I've made two cash donations to the campaign as well.

My birthday is coming up in a couple weeks, St. Patrick's Day, March 17th. Since I will be heading into my final year of my 20's, turning 29, I have decided that I need a very special present since the realization that I will be thirty in a little over a year is not coming easy.

What I'm asking is for 100 of you Obama supporters out there to donate $17 to my fundraising campaign. My goal is $1700 by 11:59 PM on March 17th. If you can donate more, that is even better!

I've created a blog here, called in and talked to several volunteers, sent an email to the head of the Obama'O8, sent email to info@barackobama.com, and am now commenting on a few posts in hopes someone calls me.

Can not help spread the word in a more effective way with hugely more impact if no one calls from Obama'08 (The media a message is delivered in matters). YouTube and corporate america want us to spend money to get high definition (HD) online. If Barack shows it is possible without changes to infrastructure he would impress all and likely win!
