Citing hope for "a new direction in American politics and a positive change in Washington," U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-South Dakota, at-large) today endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President of the United States. "Senator Obama is the right candidate for rural America. He has demonstrated a deep understanding of the tremendous opportunities that come with a transition to a clean energy economy powered by homegrown renewable energy. His policy priorities as well as his bipartisan and inclusive approach convince me that he is the best candidate to lead the country forward," said Herseth Sandlin.
Senator Obama stated, "I'm proud to have the support of Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin. Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin is a recognized leader in the House on renewable energy and rural issues. And I look forward to working with her to refocus our energy policy in a way that reduces our dependence on foreign oil, enhances our national security, and creates jobs in South Dakota and across rural America."
Herseth Sandlin indicated that after speaking with Senator Obama, she became convinced that his vision and ideas will inspire action that is good for South Dakota and good for the country: "From his commitment to wind energy development to investing in new, groundbreaking technology for cellulosic ethanol, I am convinced that Senator Obama will be a president who capitalizes on what South Dakota's communities, families and entrepreneurs have to offer."
Herseth Sandlin added, "Like many Americans and many South Dakotans, I have been inspired by Senator Obama's commitment to finding common ground, and his ability to generate a groundswell of hope and optimism among people of all ages, and of all political stripes. The challenges we face in our country demand a leader willing to put partisanship aside in order to get things done. I'm proud to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama."

Experience?
Senator Barack Obama serves on United States Senate Committees:
1) Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Experience internationally!
2) Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. Experience with military personnel!
3) Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. Experience with health care! Educational issues! Working conditions and policies! Retirement needs!
4) Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs. Experience with national security!
Experience? Yes!! Need for courage and vision and proven ability to unite a broad range of people to make positive changes in these essential areas for government and the welfare of the United States? Yes!
Yes, he can! Yes, we can! Si, se puede!

the math is impossible for Clinton to overcome unless she really plans on tearing the party apart with a floor fight and superdelegates.
And I don't think the SD's will buy it.
So I'm thinking a relatively tame debate just like the last one. She will save her worst attacks when she is not face to face with him. Just a guess on my part though. Tim Russert is sure going to try to stir the pot.
Keep working folks we can't let this go on past Mar 4th!

I've always said that Hillary, during this campaign, is like a chameleon. Definition: 1) a tree-dwelling lizard with long thin legs, a strong curled tail, a long sticky tongue, and the ability to change color. Native to: Africa, Madagascar, and 2) SOMEBODY WHO FREQUENTLY AND RAPIDLY CHANGES PERSONALITY OR APPEARANCE.

George, I agree with you. The change we can believe in from Hillary is that she will change her message, her personality, and her political stance about every other day. I've thought a lot about her so-called "foreign policy strength". If she is this abrasive, unstable, and downright shrill with an amiable fellow Democrat who shares many of her own policies, how will she conduct herself around the world, and especially in dealing with our adversarial leaders? We need someone with an ability to convince our "enemies" of our common ground, so that we can all work together to make a better world for all of us to live in for centuries to come. We cannot leave a job this important in the hands of someone as warlike in nature as Hillary Clinton.

Hello all,
Below is a link to the With One Voice fundraising campaign for Senator Obama. It was started in honor of the voter in South Carolina who gave this movement $3.01 and a bible verse. She, like most of us, could not afford to max out her financial contribution. However, the spirit of this movement is not a few people doing a lot, it’s many people doing everything they can.
The goal is to echo our friend 10,000 times over and raise $30,100. So far we’ve raised over $7900 from over 250 people. Our short term goal is to reach $10,000 by March 4th. This is an official Barack Obama fundraiser so funds go directly to the campaign and count towards the goal of 1,000,000 donors.
Please check it out, give what you can and pass the link on.

Thanks!

I suspect that site is the one HRC people have chosen to camp on. Numbers across the board have swung her way against all other polling data.
Comments are all the usual hit pieces on Barack.
Online polls are comment boards are really a useless forum to influence public opinion in my opinion.
Hard to fight the on the ground movement Barack has built with silly posts that most people dont read or dont take seriously.

This is true. All they have to do is "Delete Cookies" in their browser. That erases any trace that they've done the poll before. Then they can vote again and repeat the process as many times as they want. Online polls are NOT reliable.
The most reliable online polls record ISP addresses. But the vast majority don't.

Online polls or any poll that does not pick the demographic that represent the turnout demographics somewhat, means nothing. For ex, if young people represent 15% of the electorate and your poll has 60% young people, the results mean nothing.

I just read that republicans are planning to vote for Hillary to drag out the inevitable nomination of Barack Obama. There rationale is that if the primary is protracted Hillary will irreparably split the democratic party which will ensure John McCain the presidency. We must get the vote out in TEXAS and OHIO to mitigate any republicans voting for Hillary.
Please past this along to motivate and rally the ground troops for this 2nd SUPER TUESDAY. This effort is far from over and we cannot get complacent. However, if we win Texas and Ohio it will be over.
GO BARACK OBAMA

They should really reconsider, because what if they should try such a stupid strategy and she wins the nomination and the presidency. I don't know if I would roll those dice if I were them.

Yeah, the whole Republicans voting for Hillary thing is BS. People always think of it as an idea, but the truth is, when you put your name down for someone, that's a form of personal expression. It says you are for that person. It really goes against their grain for a Republican to vote for Hillary, and that's why the number of people that do that is tiny.
People vote for who they want to vote for. (That's also means that when there's no one you want to vote for, you're not very likely to vote at all.)

I think this post is for single-payer health care, which is a different animal than what Hillary is proposing. Single-payer is like what Japan, Europe, Canada, (the rest of the industrialized world) have. In this system health care is a service provided by the government like education, police, etc.
I think it's clearly far more efficient, i.e. cheaper, and you can distribute the cost progressively. I am 100% for it. But don't be fooled by Hillary's plan.
"Universal health care" is a phrase that often refers to single-payer health care, and people like me are begging for it. But she's is using this phrase as a Jedi mind trick because her plan is actually universal insurance, privatized disease care. This is the root of the 'outrage' she is selling over the mandate issue.
Obama's and Hillary's plans are 95% congruent, but the big difference: Hillary is trying to fake it, Obama is not. The roadblock to single-payer health care is the people's trust of government. Obama is the only candidate that can earn the people's trust in government, and thus the candidate that can enable the best health care reform.

And Senator Obama agrees that a truly universal health care is the ultimate goal, but we are in a crisis NOW and we have to deal with where we are. No chance to EVER get that through congress. You did notice how well that went for your candidate, right?
Hey, we all know what we need, some of us realize that we have some responsibility for our fellow man and some of us are foolish enough to think we will die having more stuff if we hoard. We'll bring them all around.

Ok. Obama says Clinton’s healthcare mandate won’t work…..because of the “enforcement mechanism.”
She’s admitted that she may garnish people’s WAGES or go after their TAXES!! (Check out the link)
Link
Ok. Let’s look at the one state with a mandate-----Massachusetts requires everyone to buy healthcare, although about 60,000 people have been exempted because they have annual income below $15,600.
So, how does Mass. enforce its plan???
It goes after your INCOME TAX RETURN.
1. Fines imposed on “State Income Tax” depending on income level:
a. $912 on people making more than $31,000 ($1,800 for couples filing married);
b. $672 for those making $26,000 to $31,000
c. $420 for those making $20,000 to $25,999……and so on!!
I agree with Obama!! We don’t want our government taking money out of people’s “pay checks” or attacking their “income tax returns.”

I don't see Hillary doing anything....she may try to hit Obama but my goodness...I swear Barack would make a superior boxer..that woman can't land one on him....lol. He's truly 'floats like a butterfly'...lol. Obama is very strong, very patient, truly levelheaded and even tempered. He just needs to be himself...set the tone and there's nothing she can do.
Just think...last time he wasn't feeling well and he did great...I think he will only be better tonight. He'll be fine.

1. Do we know much about the newly elected leadership?
2. Are they sympathetic with the west or with Al Qaeda?
3. Is Mushareff going to transfer power peacefully?
4. If we receive the right intelligence about Bin Laden's whereabouts & see the opportunity to take him out, do we do it?
Just a few questions for possible discussion. I think it's very cool that you're taking an interest and please don't fall asleep in class. This country will need leadership in the future and what a good place to learn, the Obama '08 campaign. Keep us updated.

I hope my letter below will inspire you to write your democrat, independent and republic friends and family too. :)
It's Jen here, speaking for the Morgan Family. Over the last couple of months, I found myself reengaged in the political process. I had given up on politics. I felt lied to, manipulated to fear and hopeless to do anything about it.
I liked much of what Senator Obama had to say and agreed with many of his issues. When he won the first primary, I was shocked that he beat Hillary. Then when I heard his remarkable speech after losing in New Hampshire, I realized I had to do something more than just vote. We joined his web page and we began helping him every way we can.
I know this is kind of unusual and totally understand if you just delete this email and forget the whole thing. But I feel compelled to act.
Obama is such a breath of fresh air compared to the old smear and negative political tactics of the past. I could rant on about all the positive things this man could bring to America, but I will save you the long read. All I ask you to do is look at this man closely. Here is a link to his Issues
Link
Go to his website and learn his issues, don't rely on the news to slant your vote. And here’s a video Paul and I put together.

Our Children
Our Educators

Our Poverty

Our Communication and How We Are Viewed in the World
Our War in Iraq
Our Health and Insurance system
Our Refusal to let Lobbyists own our Candidate
Our Economy
Our National Surplus and Value of the Dollar

Our Environment
Our Opportunity in Making new Green Jobs
Our Opportunity to stop out sourcing our Jobs Overseas
Our Opportunity to have a President that speaks Eloquently and is Inspiring
But, most of all...
Our Best Opportunity to have a President that is Not About Old Politics and Not been Bought and Muddied By Our Political System.
Now, If you haven't deleted this e-mail buy now, maybe you are ready to ask yourself one more question. What can you do besides vote? You can communicate to your family and friends, you can phone bank or donate. I am certain that after tonight's debate Obamas donors will reach 1,000,000. Obama’s campaign has reached an all time record because of small contributors like you and I.
I truly believe that if everyone gets a chance to know where he stands and hears him speak, he will be the next President.
Over the years Paul and I have donated to different organizations and it has always felt good. But I must say, that after our first donation to the Barack Obama Champaign, I feel empowered by how a few dollars that we have donated might be able to effect all of the things that fall under the categories in the list above. Sorry just won't cut it anymore.
I've long noticed something that I still find astonishing and I can't understand how people can be blind to the simplest and most glaring difference between the way these candidates would lead our country given the chance. Just look at the list of apologies. Today alone we have an apology from a Clinton supporter in Hawai'i about the school Obama attended and we had an apology from McCain about the verbal diarrhea one of his speakers was afflicted with. Then you've got Shaheen, and Johnson to name a couple more, you've got multiple Clinton apologies like the one on the tarmac over SC and we've gotten some from Bill as well. The essence of an apology means you've done something wrong and in retrospect you realize it was not the right thing to do. My memory may be prematurely failing due to my own youthful indiscretions, but I can't remember a single apology that was needed from the Obama campaign. Couple that with the fact that he is beating her campaign senseless with complete mastery of the process ,and the matters of ability and judgment seem to be answered in resounding fashion.
Just an observation

Aris, when Hillary said Obama is just,"running a campaign about a campaign," my question to her would be, "how would you know?"
Her campaign went from being:
A) inevitable - from Feb 2007 to January 2, 2008
to
B) still the front runner - after NH Primary
to
C) underdog in Nevada - even though she ALWAYS led in the polls there
to
D) playing the race card - South Carolina
to
E) inevitable again - here comes Super Tuesday
to
F) well, we won the states that count - WTF?
to
G) wait 'til Texas & Ohio - before, during & after Obama wins 11 straight primaries & caucuses
to
H) well, we always knew it would be a close race - WTF?
to
I) I'm honored, shame on you, celestial choir, meet me in Ohio
I hope she at least gives a heartfelt apology to her supporters. They deserved much better. I know I would have been devastated if Barack would have acted this way.

Feb 26th 2008 at 7:33 pm EST
So, I'm musing about this question that many Americans seem to find really important:
Which presidential candidate is the most "Christian" candidate?
Well, before you shout "Mike Huckabee!" stop and think for a minute what the teachings of Christianity actually are. Do they have anything to do with abortion? Nope. Not one sentence in the bible refers to abortion. Is the central tenet of Christianity a condemnation of homosexuals. Not by a long shot. So what message of Christianity is central to the entire New Testament, the gospels and the Pauline letters and the book of Acts?
"Love thy enemy - forgive those who have sinned against you"
Now, which of the four candidates talks the most about reconciliation (modern-speak for forgiveness) and about people coming together?
Last I checked our guy was by far the most "Christian" candidate if the real definition of the word (as outlined in the Christian texts) is to be used.
Bible thumping is not Christianity. Forgiveness, unity and tolerance is the true adherence to the gospels.
Oh, and I say all this to you as an atheist.

He is against torture.
He wants to unite both parties and end the red/blue state divide.
He is supported by the top foreign policy advisors in the world.
He will end the war in Iraq:
Link
Symbolically his race/background would represent the most profoundly positive shift in how America is viewed around the world.
He will be honest with the American people telling them "what they need to hear not what they want to hear."
Barack doesn't take any money from PACs or lobbyists.

Barack served 8 years in the Illinois State Senate.
Barack promises that all seniors making 50,000 dollars a year or less will not have to pay income taxes.
He still wants to go into Afghanistan and get Bin Laden.
Barack will end the genocide in Darfur.
Barack will give the country a health care system that works and he won't face the same gridlock that HRC did in the 90's because he is open to working with Republicans. He is also opposed to a mandate (like the one in Clinton and Edwards' plans) which would require many Americans to pay rates that many could not afford.
He has battled legislatively against the death penalty.
In Washington, he has worked with Republicans on nuclear proliferation, government waste and global warming.
Barack believes in full and complete transparency of government.
He stands faithfully by our rights in the constitution. Barack taught constitutional law for ten years.
Barack Obama will change America for the better.

Obama should keep reminding Hillary that she can't pick and choose what parts of Bill's administration to take credit for and which parts to disown. That's basically what she's saying when she says, "it takes a Clinton to clean up after a Bush". It's like an NFL prospect, say a quarterback, telling scouts and GMs to focus only on his touchdown passes and not his interceptions, fumbles, sacks, or the times he needlessly left the pocket. At any rate he should emphasize that the country doesn't want to go back to the nineties, it wants to be ushered into the future with Obama's "change" and Obama's "vision".

No matter how well Barack does tonight. Chris Matthews will declare HRC the winner. Please send positive vibes and prayers and good wishes to Barack. He is always cool and graceful but they are going to throw everything they can at him tonight and she will be yelling at him while she goes on and on and on.
MSNBC has to makeup for the Chris Matthews and David Shuster mess so you might as well get yourself prepared because she will be declared the winner no matter what happens.
HRC's PR guy set them all up yesterday with that conference call so now they have to prove him wrong that they can be just as mean to Barack.
Hold on to your hats and try not to curse too much tonight.
I will not watch it but I know my blog family will keep me informed.

Donna I really don't believe that's true. Chris is fair most times. I honestly have seen the media stick up for Obama a lot..especially MSNBC. CNN..not so much but even a few of the commentators there are VERY fair to Barack and even favor him in my opinion.
We can't expect the MSM to be all glorifying for our side all of the time. This is a campaign. I LOVE OBAMA but I don't mind if they question him or oppose him FAIRLY at all. He should be questioned just like any other candidate. He can also be attacked ---FAIRLY--by the MSN or other candidates surrogates..that is what surrogates are for. Again, I stress...when the attacks or comments are FAIR...I am okay with it.

We're winning Texas! But we cannot go to sleep... not yet! Stay alert, please...
Barack Obama has brought out the best in all of us. Let's continue giving.
I recently informed you about some members of my team on the ground in Texas, drove almost 24 hours nonstop from Riverside, Palm Spring and San Diego (in California) to Austin, with loads of campaign materials (posters, flyers, buttons, etc.). Most of all of those materials were made with funds out of our pockets or donated by devoted supporters here in California.
They helped in the visibility events before, during and after the debate on Thursday, and they were forefront organizers of the 30.000+ rally on Friday night.
Please, help keep the momentum going for me and my team. We are ordinary folks who wish to accomplish extraordinary things for Barack, the candidate of Hope and Change.

The only motivation we need to do our part is when you donate to Obama's campaign:

PLUS: I PERSONALLY MATCH EVERY DONATION BELOW $25 TILL I MAKE MY MAX.
Please, be generous. Barack has called on us to bring out the best in us. It is time for change, and we are the people we have been waiting for.

Please, support our Texas campaign drive by making a donation to Barack here:

The same thing happened to me the other night! After my face popped up as someone who was matching my gift (imagine my surprise!) I retraced my steps to figure out what had happened. In my case, my husband went to a link to donate (I'm not sure where he was when he clicked on Donate) and we made the donation from me since all the info was prefilled. Well, had I read the page, the link clearly took me to a first time donor page that said someone would match my pledge and probably send me a personal note. I just didn't pay attention. Too funny.

I am very disturbed that Senator Clinton is turning this race into a boxing match. She is not focusing on the people but on Senator Obama who is focusing on the issues that the middle income family is facing. I remember the immature statement that was made by during the early Primaries, Senator Hillary said t that the Presidential Candidates were attacking her because she is winning. What a statement, because she is doing the same exact thing! The main reason I am supporting Senator Obama is because he is addressing the issues with
realistic outcomes. I feel his passion for American that Senator Hillary lacks. I feel the how he reaches out to everyone, not just black people. He is such an inspiration and Senator Hillary is just attacking him because he is winning. Senator Hillary is telling us what we want to hear, and I don’t trust that. Former President, Bill Clinton was a great president, but it is time for a change, a change that can free the American government from allowing the politicians to dictate our children’s future, but a unified nation that involves the politician and American People. One last point if you are talking about copying someone work, how about this. Clinton first initiate campaign slogan addressed experienced and now it’s to Change. Senator Clinton I did respected you, but now you have gone too far. Play fair and the American people will hear you! You have done alot of changing and you dont believe in change. I can really say that this man can bring unity.

OK - so enough with the "silly season" already!!! sh his middle name is what it is - do any of us really care anymore? I think that the more the GOP uses it as a smear tactic, the less of a shock value they will get out of it, call me naive, but that is the way it works in marketing. If you overuse the message, it will get stale.
When will they learn that they are not dealing with just a man, but a movement that we are all apart of?

Jasmine, NC Congratulations President elect Obama,
Feb 26th 2008 at 8:31 pm EST
regarding the name thing, I think that Obama should say something like this:
It's ok if you mock me for my middle name, as I've said before, I maybe skinny, but I'm tough. But when you mock a person based on their name, you mock all Americans with unique names; you mock the latino, the African America, the Asian and all the rest. It wasn't that long ago in our history that people with Mc sirnames landing at Ellis Island with all the hope and dreams for a new life in this land of opportunity felt that they had to drop the Mc from their names.
So, again, I'm tough but when you insult me, you insult all Americans.
And let me just say, that in a time when an 8th grade student in California is mocked and teased and finally shot in him classroom for being gay, if nothing else we must set an example to for our children that respects and celebrates difference of all kinds.

Advice from a citizen-scientist on how to succeed in the presidential race (and as president:
Act like a true commander-in-chief by showing COMMAND of the facts. You've already shown command of your campaign and of your emotions. Now it's time to show us that you have (or are able to quickly get) an impressive command of the facts because that's what you're going to need to be an effective president.
Much more than some vague (if appealing) ability to "win people over," an impressive command of the facts will allow you to truly build bi-partisan support, because it's much harder to deny hard, cold facts than unsubstantiated conjecture, opinions and belief, that are so rampant in politics and so destructive to sound policy.
Run a FACT-BASED White House instead of a faith-based White House. Invite the leading thinkers and experts from universities and elsewhere to provide you with the historical and other FACTS surrounding an issue, instead of relying on the opinions of people around you who are probably much less well-informed.
Put a well-respected scientist (or two) on your staff. Put a well-respected historian (or two) on your staff.
The best economists are in the think-tanks and universities. Woo them out of their ivory towers to help you. That also goes for the best ... (you fill in the blank).
Be the "prove-it" president: if someone weighs in on an issue, tell them they must demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that what they say is true, before you act on it.
Good luck!
We're going to need it.

Myself--I would like to see her left eye start to twitch, then perhaps she could let a tear slide gently down her cheek, as she says, "...oh, I was fine as your favorite LAST year... you liked me just fine back then, when I was a few months younger and things were going my way...what happened to us?...where did our love go?" Then she and the Supremes could sing that great old song and shimmy right off the stage.
That would make ME happy.
But she can do whatever she likes.
She does not have the AUDACITY OF HOPE, so it won't really matter what she does.

you know her complete tolerance for his infidelity has always reinforced the image of their relationship as totally fake.
if they were actually in love, she WOULD have doubts about his unfaithfulness, considering how it occurred over and over and over again, throughout their entire "marriage." where's her self-respect?that's not a real relationship, that's some kind of fixed arrangement. and it does nothing for promotion of women's rights.
i don't mean to harp on, but that has always really bothered me about her.

Not everybody will agree, but I enjoy a lot this journalist's opinions.
He asked: what Hillary should do to stop Obama?
Some answers:
-Ask Huckabee for a miracle.
-That is the wrong question. The right one is what Hillary should do to help the party and the country, answer: concede tonight.
-Turn back time.
-Exit stage left.

Will anyone make a couple of matching donations so that I will get some sense of bringing new people in?

A big vote of thanks to all the generous Obama supporters who have contributed their valuable frequent flyer miles to send 26 volunteers to Texas and Ohio. And a big thank you to all who have selflessly devoted their time on the ground to GOTV. Hopefully, this will be over after Barack wins the next four states. However, I’m still keeping a list of people with miles to donate and matching up people who would like to volunteer time in other primary states. If you have 25,000 miles in one account, we might need you!
On another note, yesterday I had the opportunity to hear the Boys Choir of Kenya here in Orange County, CA. Such beautiful, uplifting harmony and enthusiasm. Afterward, I met them in the parking lot and complimented them on their singing. They were so happy to see the Kenya flag on a shirt I was wearing. When I said “Barack Obama!” they all started cheering, clapping, and jumping around. It was pretty funny to see how excited just the mention of Barack’s name made them.
And, my very Republican sister, who was a Romney supporter, said she doesn’t want McCain and will vote Obama in the GE. I hope there are many more people like her out there.

Feb 26th 2008 at 8:15 pm EST

We need help. I can't make down. Can you?
Rhode Island's Democratic primary is one week from today. In preparation, supporters across the state are launching a major canvassing effort this weekend to make sure turnout is as strong as possible.
This is a terrific opportunity to reach out to Rhode Island voters face-to-face and to put our amazing grassroots energy to work in support of Barack in the final days before the primary.
Sign up to take a trip to Rhode Island this weekend, and help Get Out The Vote for Barack:
Link
If we've learned anything from this campaign so far, it's that every delegate counts. In a race as close as this, we cannot afford to leave any voters -- or any delegates -- behind.
We're going into the Rhode Island primary with the momentum of 11 straight wins. That success is the direct result of supporters across the country working together, united behind a common purpose.
The Rhode Island canvassing effort is an important way for supporters to build on this momentum and continue our success. Become part of this effort, and help make sure Rhode Island voters hear about the kind of change that Barack will bring to Washington.
No prior experience is required, and I promise this will be an exciting and rewarding trip. Come to Rhode Island, meet your fellow supporters, and talk to voters about why you are a part of this movement.

Feb 26th 2008 at 8:19 pm EST
Tim Russert has just indicated that he would like to question Barack about his relationship with the Rezko guy and about his votes in the senate regarding the Iraq war funding considering that he has been opposed to the war.
I think those are tough but safe questions because he has faced those issues many times before.
The commander in chief issue seems to be the one that Hillary wants to beat like a drum. She intends to take every opportunity she has to get her plugs in as CIC.
Again, Barack should do very well on asserting his readiness for CIC.
This will be a very interesting evening for all.
I will happy make another donation to the campaign tonight in celebration of a job well done.

Tim Russert just said that the Rezko question will be on the table, and also the question of his stance against the war, but yet, voting to finance the war.

why do so many old people love hilary so much? old white people i mean.
that is the ONE group that won't budge. i guess that in itself is a characteristic of old people, but still...
if every other group moves over to him the more they see of him (and they do), why won't old folks give him a chance? are they weirded out by the name? possible latent racism?
both those options seem strange to me, because this particular group was the baby boomers who came of age in the 1960s!
have they lost ALL past open-mindedness???

Hi Ariel!! Here is my opinion!! In the 1990's when Bill Clinton was President, many of the baby boomers who were in their late forties and early-middle fifties at that time, had the opportunity to pay into their 401K plans, and IRA plans, and to invest significant amounts of money, because at that time, the economy was good, the stock market really advanced, and the cost of living was rather low, so these people had more money to invest. Further, many of them were empty nesters in that their children were in college (college education was not near the cost back then), and both husband and wife worked, so they were able to save money for their retirement. Well, now it is 2008, and many of these people have retired, and are pretty well off financially. They live on both coasts in retirement, although many are spread throughout the USA! And I think that in some way they may just feel that they owe her their vote because of their ability to live a good life now that they are retired. In some way they credit him (Bill) for their financial security! This is just my take on your question!! I'm hopeful this info may be of help to you!! Have a great evening!!

Ariel, its tough to break the ties to the Bill Clinton years for the older Democrats. I will say that my 89 year old grandma was a staunch Democrat and stood up for Bill Clinton tooth and nail. She passed away last month in her sleep from a massive heart attack. I can tell you that she had been telling all of us in the family she was going to vote for Barack Obama. It surprised even me and my mom and aunts couldnt believe it. It's amazing to me that Barack Obama's voice and sincerity reached my 89 year old grandma and I have to say I've been fighting especially hard for Barack since her passing because if he touched her life I know he can make a difference in this world

I'm asking - suggesting - we all do this between now and the top of the hour - that is pray, as well as send out positive thoughts and visualize Barack's success. I hope this is the last debate between these two, they make me crazy. the drama plays to Hill's advantage, everybody wondering what she'll come up with and then magnifying every exchange, looking for ways that she really "got to him." doesn't it seem that our guy could just do some personal appearances and otherwise cruise into March 4? does anyone know the Big Strategy here?

Everyone tonight we need to bring in as many new donors as possible, we can do this. Lets get the blitz started when the debate starts, lets also try to agree, just a thought that tonight lets not try to build fundraisers that we have going and instead donate to matching funds to pull in new donors. Please do not repeat the fundraisers again and again. Do not mean to sound mean but this way we can achieve our goal faster by donating thru new donors. Any feedback?

The latest Public Policy Polling Texas Democratic Poll suggests that Barack Obama needs to work like mad to nail down the Lone Star State. Why? Because the poll finds Obama and Clinton deadlocked, tied, all even. This is deceptive because PPP has consistently shown a likely Democratic win for Obama by predicting nearly ten points beyond the rest of the polls in Obama's favor. But these are honest pollers and the results below show that PPP is in AGREEMENT with the rest of the Texas polls. I would be willing to gamble on this basis that Obama will do better in Ohio than in Texas. Unless...

My guess is that you have to add 5 to 10 percent in favor of Senetor obama than it is in the poll. Look what happened in Wisconsin. He was 5% ahead by Senetor HRC and he won by 17 %.
I am guessing that he is going to win by about 15 % in Texas and by about 5% in Ohio.

Dear God, Abba Father, Ancient of Days, Rock of Ages, Jehovah, Alpha and Omega,
Thank You for the abundance of successes that You have showered us with. We have a debate coming up in less than an hour and we know that the battle belongs to You, mighty God. You have said that victory ultimately comes not by human strength or ability, but by Your power. We are trusting in You, O Lord too take us to victory, to prepare a table before us in the presence of our enemies, to anoint our heads with oil, to make our cups run over. Surely, Your goodness and mercy will follow us all the days of our lives and we will dwell in Your house forever and ever.
In the words of some songs of worship:
Our dearest Lord,
We declare Your majesty
We proclaim that Your Name is exalted
For You reign magnificently, rule victoriously
And Your power shows through all the earth
And we declare
Our God is mighty
We lift up Your Name
For You are holy
Singing again, in honor and glory
In adoration,
We bow before Your throne
We bow before Your throne
We bow before Your throne
Singing Hallelujah
Singing Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Amen
********* **********
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from Heaven above
With wisdom, power and love
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns, He reigns, He reigns
Our God is an awesome God
********* **********
When we look at the mountains
Into the valleys, and over the sea
O, our God, You are Lord
You are Lord, You are Lord, You are Lord
You are Lord, You are Lord, You are Lord
When we look at the mountains
Into the valley, and over the sea
O, our God, You are Lord

Guys I know many of you are quite enthusiastic about tonights debate and believe that Barack will do fine. Yes he will do fine, but remember that everything can happen. Lets us be realistic about any outcome of this debate, you never what Hillary will find about.
Lets us have hopes but not so great expectations which will make the slope deeper that we can comprehend. It's only a debate after all, lets focus on the tasks at hand for the days to come before the election.
We must have hopes, yet there is blind hope and hope with reasons. And in Baracks words (real) hope isn't blind optimism, so lets focus, DO NOT MAKE OURSELVES the unbeatable or anything, because we got all to loose tonight.

Who is this "shock jock" Cunningham, that went to a McCain event today and roasted Barack Obama by using Barack's middle name "Hussein" in a negative way? It seemed to me (and a lot of people) that Cunningham was intending to use Barack's middle name to inflame bigoted sentiments in the people that he (Cunningham) was talking to.
I think that conservative Republicans need to realize that appealing to bigoted sentiments in people is not the way to win an election. The Clintons tried that in South Carolina last month, and saw the whole thing blow up in their faces!

The reason Obama message resinates with Americans is his message comes from what he knows and beleives to be true. The message has been consistant through out. He has shown true leadership. He has not had to work at it or keep trying to find a message that works it just comes natural. Barack does not speak at people, he speaks to you. He knows this campaign is not about him but rather all of us.
Clinton forces herself on people, says vote for me. Let's make history and elect me. The first woman. Blah blah blah All along she has obsessed about what we are doing instead of her own campaign. A true leader leads they don't follow.

We trust that Barack will shine tonight. Open your eyes, all, and see Barack and Hilary for who they are...
"Negativity is not intelligent. It is always of the ego. The ego may be clever, but it is not intelligent. Cleverness pursues its own little aims. Intelligence sees the larger whole in which all things are connected. Cleverness is motivated by self-interest, and it is extremely short-sighted. Most politicians and business people are clever. Very few are intelligent. Whatever is attained throught cleverness is short-lived and always turns out to be eventually self-defeating. Cleverness divides; intelligence includes." Eckhart Tolle "A New Earth" p.112
Obama is one of those rare, intelligent politicians. His authenticity is palpable. His ego is set aside for the greater good. We are all connected and Obama believes that at the core of his being. He does not wish to divide- rather, he includes all. He will unite these UNITED STATES!

11 STRAIGHT WINS AND COUNTING
We have won the last 11 primaries. We need to keep the momentum going. Let’s take it one step higher and march towards victory on March 4th in Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island. This means calling, canvassing, and keeping Sen. Obama’s campaign well funded to get his message across. Please continue to reach in your pockets and make an investment into this campaign. In the end, all our work will be worthwhile because Sen. Barack Obama will take his movement to the White House.

Good quote from Huckabee today:
“But are there are still things about Hillary that the country would need to know before they elect her president? Sure, because it¹s different being the wife of a president and being the president. And I know that she’s talked about her experience, but you know, to say that being married to the president gives you the experience to be president would be like me saying, you know, that being married to my wife gives me the capacity to explain child birth because after all I’ve been married to her and she’s given birth to our three children. I’d probably get slapped in the face by her if I suggested that I knew as much about child birth as she does because I’ve been married to her.”

From what I understand, health care is her passion, *it's just too bad Obama's plan is better* so you can't fault her for trying....I just wish she wouldn't be so crass and harsh about getting her point across. There's much nicer, calmer, "presidential" ways of getting your point across and she just rubs me the wrong way. But that's just my opinion.

(I'm typing as they speak - hope you can make it out - she is upset now)
What I find regrettable is that in o mailer , it is almost as tho the health ins companies and Repubs wrote it.
(she goes into details)
I think it’s imperative that we stand as Democrats.
O
Look,, I believe in UHC as does HRC. This is the point of the debvate is that HRC repeatedly calims that I don’t.l for HRC to say that is simply not accurate. Every expert has said that everybody who wants health care under my plan will be able to take it.
(Reich endorses)
Everyone who needs it (across America) will be able to take it
We do more to reduce costs
I have no objection to HRC to hinkiung her approach is superior.
We still don’t know how she intends to enforce the mandate....
You will have a situation where people will be fined – but choose to accept the fine because they still can’t afford it.
Last point: the insurance companies are happy to have a mandate. The insurance companies don’t mind that everyone must accept
She interrupts (flustered)
Sen. Obama has a mandate to require parents to purchase for children. There’s no difference here ( she’s getting angry )
It would be as though FDR says let’s make Health care voluntary.
(She is speaking over Obama each time he tries to speak)

The same expert she cites says there is no difference in our plans.
Medicare Part B is not mandated, hillary. People choose to purchase it. Why? Because they know it's a good deal.
