Chicago, IL – Today, United States Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) endorsed Barack Obama for president, citing his ability to rise above the issues that divide us, end the war in Iraq, bring universal health care, and make America energy independent.
Senator Bingaman said, “Today, I am announcing my support for Barack Obama for president and declaring my intention to vote for him at the Democratic convention.
“Our nation faces a daunting number of critical challenges: reasserting America’s leadership in the world, meeting our needs for energy independence, addressing global warming, making healthcare accessible and affordable, positioning our economy to effectively compete globally, and extricating ourselves from the war in Iraq, to name a few.
“To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction.
“I strongly believe Barack Obama is best positioned to lead the nation in that new direction.”
Senator Obama said, “I’m grateful today to have Senator Bingaman’s support. Senator Bingaman has been speaking out in the United States Senate on some of the most pressing issues of our time – saving our environment, fighting global warming, and making America energy independent. Senator Bingaman has been an important advocate in the energy debate, and has served the people of New Mexico for decades, giving voice to the issues that matter to families across the state. We are proud to have his support as we fight to bring about real change for families in New Mexico and across the country.”
Senator Jeff Bingaman is the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. He has served in the United State Senate since 1982, and previously served as New Mexico Attorney General.

I thought Super Delegates were scared to back Barack.
Shows how dumb the MSM is.
By my count, we only need 292 more delegates... or 40% of the remaining pledged and Super Delegates.
Don't get distracted now. We're changing this country whether the media admits it or not!

Barack Obama,
Now is the time to get focused and take this campaign. Speak details..keep on the issues and keep the message strong and positive. Don't only speak of uniting and changing..provide all the specifics and present a plan for immediate progression. Dreams can only take shape through vision, belief, and most importantly organized action. Tell the people of Indiana the formula for success and they will believe. Then we will follow you to through November and change this world. Everyone wants it…they may just not even realize it. Let's do this one step at a time. Let's make the reason clear.
Obama 08 and beyond.

Link
Please digg if you haven't already.
Excerpt:
Let's state our case openly. Let's trust most of our fellow Americans to rise to the occasion. The choice is clear. The time for euphemisms is past. Let's confront our worst national faults head on. This year's contest for the presidency is between all that is worst about America and all that is greatest.
I believe in America. I believe in Obama. If we hang in there we will win.

OBAMA or BUST: Why This Older, White Woman Will Not Vote for HRC
I am sick of politicians who lie to the American people. If she lies to us this much now, her fairy tales are insulting and unbelievable condesending, imagine the lies when she will tell the American People when she holds the most powerful office in the world.
I am sick of politicians who use fear to control the American people, occupy other countries, and kill thousands of innocents: The democratic movement is about peacefully turning over an administration that has used facist tactics on the American people for eight years now.
I am sick of the politics of personal destruction: If HRC will treat a member of our demo team as horridly as she has treated Obama, not McCain, with her Rovian playbook politics, how will she treat the most important part of the team, the American People?
I am sick of Bill Clinton: We stood behind him when his frivolous mishavior shamed this country and left weak and impotent, the democratic party's influence and power thereby allowing the Mad Rovian Dogs to take over this country and lead us into an occupation and gradual stripping of our civil and constitutional rights. How ungrateful of him to be so selfish and so jealous and so threatened by the talent and potential of someone new, someone who could maybe take this country to a new and better place.
I am sick of, and think it is dangerous to our country, to continue to put into office the same political families: Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, now Clinton? For God's sake, have they not done enough damage! Have they not proven they let us down enough times?! Why would we give them the power to screw us again?
Why would I vote for yet another politician who shows us through her campaign behavior, nothing will change in Washington.
Why would I vote for yet another politician who would treat the American People this way, again?
I might as well vote for McCain or give up and not vote at all because the Democratic party should have throw the Clintons out for the damage they have done to not only Barack, but each and every one of us, who hoped along with Obama that we could change the Rovian and Clintonian politics of America and capture our country again.

Well stated, but remember that one has to pull out slowly when one has one's hand in the lion's mouth.
Patience and grace are the things that will get us through all of this, as Obama says, silliness.
The MSM praise this "process," but for their own selfish reasons, but I don't think that it enriches the American people... only the pocketbooks of the MSM.

I Feel the same way! It is a shame that Clinton, and Mccain and the media have nothing on Obama, so they have to resort to "low blow tactics" They are all trying to "sabotage" him. And I too am sick of the same ole, same ole familes in the White House, for 20 years we have had the Clinton and Bushes, who next jeb bush,or chelsea?
We need to end this dynasty of families, So much for Experience, where has it gotten us. The change is Barak Obama,and I feel he will go into the White House with fresh eyes, and not the same old eyes we have had for 30yrs.We need to keep supporting Obama,reguardless of what the Media is trying too do to him. And by the way, the way the media is trying to use his former pastor to destroy him is pathitic, and I will not let the media sway my vote for him! Go Obama!! I only hope that we the american people are "smart" enough too see what Hillary, Mccain and the media are trying to do to him. I think the real culprit in "DEVIDING" this country is the Media, and the low blow tactics,being used.

I completely agree, except for one thing. Please do not vote for John McCain. Remember in 1968 - many of the protesters against the war who demonstrated at the DNC ended up not voting and Richard Nixon became President! Write in Barack's name if he is not the nominee - which he WILL be. Or vote for the Democrat - don't repeat history.

Well said Tammy,
I totally agree with you. It's like a lot of people are afraid of Barack. It's because they don't want change or they are racist.
I WILL NO VOTE FOR HILIARY EVER. If I don't vote at all it helps her so I will be voting for McCain if the nomination if stolen from Barack. Because there is not way she can gain him in his delegate lead.
Let's pray we don't have to worry about that. This whole country should be ready for a change!

I hear ya.. Here are my reasons...
I know many may vote for her if she steals the nomination but I honestly couldnt and heres why..
Now as why I can not vote for Hillary is personal for me. The 90s were horrible for my family mainly when NAFTA was passed which led to the globalization era. My husband who was forced to change his profession due to a work related injury which left him disabled was the start. He went to school and learned computers an interest he had anyway. He never finished because he landed a job with Dell. He worked there with great reviews until the mass Dell lay offs due to jobs being shipped over seas. This all happened during the Clinton years and every since then there has been no stability in our home. Its been contracts after contracts of employment which has meant no benefits no health ins no holiday pay ect.. His current contract ends in June and again he will be looking for employment. This has become a cycle that personally we can not forgive the Clintons for. Sadly if she steals the nomination I can not in good faith vote for her even as VP. With Hillarys health plan I will be worse than I am now by being forced and or pentalized for not getting it even if I couldnt afford it. With Obamas I may still may not afford it but I wont go backwards financially. ATM we make 30k a year, just over the foodstamp government help yet nowhere near able to afford healthcare. I will simply stay home and not vote period. If it werent for Obama I would not have gained back what hope I did still have buried inside me. For me its honestly Obama or none.. I don't think anyone can change my mind but you can give it a shot if you wish.

Please help:
Senator Jeff Bingaman words of "To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction."
Obama message of hope is what many of us have been inspired by. Please, Super D's step up and help support him now in lue of the rev. stir up which I pray does not destroy Obama's chance to win this election.

ATTENTION! ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!!
Another judge and media conspiracy, pls read visit YOUTUBE and see, the atrocities of the Clinton's have been reviled, you may wonder why is it that Hillary has not been on the attack in NC and Indiana, and why is it that Bill is out of the lam light.
BREAKING NEWS! BREAKING NEWS!!
Go to Youtube and type "the shocking news Hillary does not want you to see" What happened to Peter Paul will happen to you all by the time she gets to white house.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION the California Superior Court Judge Aurelio N. Munoz ruled Paul's legal team can begin seeking depositions from those involved.
As a cover up now the judge has further said that in the landmark civil fraud case against Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton in Los Angeles, where the former President is charged with defrauding a Hollywood dot com millionaire to help Hillary Clinton obtain more than $1.2 million from him for her 2000 Senate campaign, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aurelio Munoz ruled on Friday, April 25 that Hillary Clinton would not be required to testify in a sworn deposition as a material witness in the case until AFTER the November election!
This is fraud forward it to all Americans, the media will cover it up, forwards it to superdelegates and through every means you can.

Hi everyone! The blog has been updated with the April 28th *morning* news content!
For those who don't know, my name is Cris and I'm a Cuban-American who supports Barack Obama.
I run a blog that compiles pretty much every major news article and commentary that comes out each day about Senator Obama. My hope is that it's a useful tool for those who want to keep up with everything going on in the campaign. I also contribute my own commentary as well.
I hope this is helpful to everyone.

Bravo to Senator Bingaman for stepping forward to stand for change with Barack Obama and this movement for change. Superdelegates are listening and they are responding: Most Democrats want their party free of the grip of inordinate control by one family. Most Americans, I sense, are understanding that one family rule is UnAmerican and UnHealthy for the Body Politic!
Thank you Senator Bringaman.

Someday Howard Wolfson will kick himself for ever joining Hillary Clinton's campaign. He is trying to make hay with Bill Ayers, misquoting him as badly as Sean Hannity does. Figures. Sean is his and George S.'s source. Well, a big boy has entered the lists on Bill Ayers. His name is Richard M. Daley and he is the Mayor of Chicago and he thinks your kind of poliiics imbibes through a long and noisy straw. For your benefit, I am posting the Mayor's statement below. Grow up, Howard.
THE STATEMENT OF MAYOR DALEY
The mayor released the following statement:
There are a lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And one more example is the way Senator Obama’s opponents are playing guilt-by-association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill Ayers.
I also know Bill Ayers. He worked with me in shaping our now nationally-renowned school reform program. He is a nationally-recognized distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois/Chicago and a valued member of the Chicago community.
I don’t condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40 year old battles.
+
If you got this far, Howard, I really would like to feel something other than disdain when I see you showing a mean edge on TV. It reminds me of the mean edge I have seen on Senator Schumer when he is hectoring witnesses. I will try.

Listen, I totally agree with what Rev. Wright said today, and contrary to the media it's not because I'm black.
But Wright is not Obama and Obama is not Wright. Just like Michelle is not Barack, and Barack is not Michelle.
So say that knowing or having a friendship with someone means you agree with everything that say and do is silly season is politics.
I can tell you right now that I certainly don't agree with all my friends, family, or spiritual guides. But I can still respect and love them just the same.

I feel like all I hear is that he's weak and he's losing steam and rev wright and blah blah!! I feel like the media refuses to show anything good about obama from here on out! Any good news has been blacked out and ignored! I will definitely keep making calls and doing all I can to help barack but lately people seem to be down on the blogs, not just here but on dailykos as well, he's being attacked for going on fox by kos and other bloggers, just when we all need to unite behind him during this difficult time the left decides to pile on... it's like he can never do anything right... everyone is trying to tell him what to do and I honestly think he's doing everything fine and the best he can but I just can't help but feel like somethings missing in the atmosphere, especially on the blogs?! maybe it's just all the negativity from the past 6 weeks!

My suggestion to you is to STOP following the press. Just stop. It seems that so many people have become cable news junkies. It's their job to build people up and then tear them down. That's their job. Please stop focusing on this and just keep working hard on behalf of Sen. Obama by making calls, etc... TURN OFF YOUR TV.

Priscilla,
Yeah, it would be great if the media would actually show substantive stories about Obama. The reason we are seeing the "Obama is losing steam" stories is that the media knows the end is near, and they are going to lose a story that has provided them with ratings. It's in there best financial interest to prop up Hillary as long as possible.
I think we all need to keep in mind that Obama is not just running for President. He is running to try and change an entrenched culture in Washington, and in the press. It's tough, and will remain tough.
As far as dailykos and Fox News, Kos has always set up boycotting Fox as some kind of liberal purity test. After the debate on ABC, I find it hard to explain why Obama needs to stay off Fox while still giving interview time to the other major networks. I don't like Fox, I don't watch Fox, but going on that network put Obama before voters who might not see him otherwise. Obama is not running for King of the Netroots, he is running for President, so he'll make some choices that Kos and Co. won't always like.

We will not receive any positive press by MSM. The only time we have received any positive news was when most beleived the campaign was a scattered grass roots liberal experiment. Now that we have put together the largest coalition of any campaign in modern history and are poised to nominate BHO as the Democratic nominee with no ties to special interest of the entrenched few who control so much... it's really comforting to see the few attempt to protect their interest.
It's no surprise that all the Republican "talking heads" are actively praising HRC. America's ready for something different this time and the tricks that worked in the past, are only showing how without merit they always were...

If Obama wins Indiana and North Carolina by 20 points each the media will give praise to the win the night of the primaries. The next day will go into a diatribe on the other candidate, you know who she is, and then quickly pivot to say she must win by margin of and it's possible because Wright, Ayers and race.
No good press for the guy who will change what the MSM giants have deceived for so long to build.
This is going to be work, from now until Barack is elected POTUS. Then the media and old boy network will try even after that.
Don't be fooled, MSM and the republicans know if they can't knock him out in the primaries the GE is going to be harder for them. GE will be so negative that if WE don't stay focused, we may start to believe the spin. Like Obama said address the negative and pivot into the issues... Must stay on message.
50 state voter registration will keep the campaign fresh, working and staying focused on the mission.
Yes it can and will be disappointing at times, but we could be as the MSM thought OUT of the race because she was to strong to beat... but where are we, ahead of the so called most POWERFUL democratic machine the nation has seen.
BE ENCOURAGED, this is just a test... the battle is NOT ours (I smiled as I wrote regarding the battle) is there a witness?
If there is a witness, witness by CANVASING, CALLING, and INVESTING for the campaign of change.

one that keeps me up at night is: did he flip off clinton during that rally or NOT!? have we gotten a definitive answer on that? i was and am appalled. i want EVERYONE on this blog to research this issue now and report back with 5-8 paragraph responses. please start your subject line with "I'm concerned."

Don't forget the silly battle over the fact that none of us can be called bitter eventhough we paid $3.50/gallon today and could only put $13.00 worth of gas in the tank because that is all that was in the wallet and then had to take the change jar to the grocery store to cash out change inorder to buy groceries. Oh wait, that couldn't have been me--I'm one of those elitist, latte drinking, birkie wearing, delusional Obama supporters!

Very good, Sharon. This is just where the media is. They cannot find ANYTHING bad about BARACK OBAMA himself to write, so they are digging through everything they can to see if he ever shook hands with someone who ended up in reform school. That would be a story, for sure! I cannot understand why the media wants to tear down the best thing to happen to this country in many, many years. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face!

I'll bet that a Bob Corker v. Harold Ford-type ad will come out sometime soon about Barack with a white woman. Remember how well this worked for Corker in Tennessee against Harold Ford?
As funny as some of this stuff can be, it can be oddly very effective and it really is no joke. However, levity is what will have to keep some of us going during the next few weeks.

Will you make a donation to help me honor service men and woman, reach my goal, and add to the momentum of "our" campaign?
My goal ($2195) centers around my husband and his job. He is in the US Army and has not been to IRAQ--quite rare. His current assignment is a recruiter. I'd like 100 people to donate $21.95 in honor of a member of the United States Armed Services. Additionally, I'd like to compose a list of all the brave men and women honored by your donations. Please send me the name of the US Service man or woman that you’d like to honor.
I would love to reach this goal by the end of the month... :)

How QUICKLY can we get folks from the other 49 states, DC, the territories, and our friends from non-voting other countries TO reply to this message that the poster supports Barack Obama for President of the United States and where they're from?
This is a LITTLE TEST FOR SOMETHING LATER. Help me out here. We're trying to find out if folks are paying attention.

It was something special. I went to the Obama rally here in Eugene Oregon with with my Nephew that happens to walk with a cane. Since he had a cane , we got to set about 20 feet away from Barack , and i wasn't about to leave without at least trying to shake his hand......LOL......." it happened ".
Another cool thing about that is, there was this special needs person in a wheel chair , and some people picked this person up and over the railing , wheel chair and all , Barack made a point to stop and spend a few minutes with this person, it was special.

Theresa "Offering an olive branch to Clinton and McCain supporters" from NY
Apr 28th 2008 at 3:33 pm EDT
If you are thinking about voting for John McCain, think on these things…
The Economy/His Tax Plan:
He has admitted that he does not understand the economy.
His tax plan will do nothing to help the poor. Please see this article from today’s NY Times by Paul Krugman—
Link
More than ½ of his tax cuts - $175 billion - will go to corporations.
Another $60 billion in tax cuts will go to very high income tax payers.
He is avoiding scrutiny of his finances, by not having his wife release her tax returns. She is worth millions.
Veterans
He voted against funding the Veterans Benefits Administration. The bill’s goal was described as a ‘way to support the health needs of our veterans and military personnel.’
He voted against providing funds for much needed mental health services, counseling and rehabilitative services for veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
National Security:
He voted to authorize the war in 2002.
He wants to keep a US presence in Iraq for as long as it takes with no clear exit strategy.
He voted against having the President report on the status in Iraq every three months.
He voted for the USA Patriot Act –twice.
He is using G.W. Bush’s language to push a global, nebulous fight on terrorism with no clear enemies, strategy or plan for success.
He voted against banning waterboarding.
He voted for the government to support the use of cluster bombs.
He voted against restoring habeas corpus for detainees in the U.S.
Be aware that:
He has proclaimed that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned.
He was originally against establishing a national day of recognition for MLK
He has consistently voted against arts and education funding.
He voted against expanding the definition of hate crimes to include gender, sexual orientation and disability.
He did not vote when it came to passing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.
He voted against the reauthorization of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
And there’s much more, check it out at:

Every day, at the end of the day, right before we go to bed, we need to ask ourselves what we've done today to bring Barack closer to the nomination.
Have we donated?
Did we make phone calls?
Did we canvass? (people living in NC and IN)
Let's make a goal for ourselves every day and make sure we stick to it.

The polls are only as good as who is paying for them. Some of us are not answering polls, or looking at the media right now. We want to stay positive which breeds positivity in long lengths, so our arms reaches out far for HOPE, CHANGE, UNITY. MSM would not know anything about that. The polls are to get you to thinking negatively about the candidate, instead of being joyful, FIRED UP and READY TO GO!!!! at ALL times, even through the storms, keep smiling. WE WILL WIN!!! OBAMA 08

I'M sick of this primary. I used to be a fairly well adjusted human being. Now I'm sure that if I ran into George Stephanopolus on the street, I'd take off my high heel and bash him with it.
The polls I've seen are all over the place. Gallup nationally is tied, but Rasmussen nationally has Obama up by eight. I think all of the polls show Obama up in NC, and the race either tied or tightening in IN.
There was an AP poll out today that showed Clinton more likely to win over Obama against McCain. However, like six other polls showed Obama over McCain. Try not to get too wrapped in polls.

Can you imagine if the media was reporting all the rumors about Hillary Clinton being a lesbian?
All of this stuff about Obama's religion is just as sick and wrong. First he's a Muslim, then he's a terrorist sympathizer, then he's anti-American, then he's a black racist ... and you know that the Clinton campaign is teaming up its forces with the Republicans on this issue.
When you've got the Republicans AND the Clinton campaign "piling on," of course the media is going to cover the story. But it's just the politics of triangulation. It won't work.

Worse than Carville, worse than Lanny Davis. Howard Wolfson is the equivalent of Karl Rove. He makes me sick just looking at him. It's like he has no dignity whatsoever. He seems to say whatever needs to be said to achieve the results he wants.
At least some of the others in the Clinton camp will admit certain realities, like the need to win a state, etc, but Wolfson just spews spin like he is made from it. But like someone wrote, maybe he really is a "true believer."

Look, all politics aside, many many people support the troops and appreciate the dedication and sacrifice you give for your country. You folks are the true heroes, not American Idol stars or Terrell Owens. And of course you can oppose the war and support the men and women serving in the armed forces.
About Starbucks, again politics aside, they're pretty dang expensive anyways. I usually just get the cheap stuff from the gas station anyways.

Not going to boycott Starbucks over this issue... I think it would be better to purchase mention this issue and ask for a refund.
Also, email the corporate office and tell them how much we would NOT like to PICK IT there stores all over the country... but would rather give them praise for sending coffee to the troops on a REGULAR basis to help them get through this unwarranted war.

Peggy, try not to get so dismayed by the negative media coverage. Those people who are firmly against Senator Obama---made up their minds in 1957 (a partial quote from Chris Matthews). Those who are sitting on the fence, if we do not get them now, we can get them later.
I believe that Senator Obama will be the democratice nominee. And, as controversial as Rev. Wright is, it is better for him to rear his head now, than later.
Even in the midst of all of this fog, good will come out of it. I feel it. To quote Gov. Richards, "there is something special about this man." And with heartfelt support like yours and others, the Obama Campaign has things under better control than they think.

It is alright Peggy! When you believe in something it is hard to hear negative press about it. But just remember that this is the media and this is their job. They have to focus on something negative to keep people interested. They do that with a lot of different stories. But hang in there. It really will be fine and if you decide to watch TV laugh at those talking heads that have no brain of their own. They are only saying what they are being told to say anyways and be glad that you have the power to think for yourself and fight for what you believe in! YES WE CAN! We can't be stopped!

People, it seems to me that Barack Obama has a lot of fair weather supporters. All of a sudden when everything is not EASY or FUN, I notice a lot of hand wringing and I notice a lot of whining. What did people think? Did they think that this was going to be a cakewalk? It was always going to be an uphill struggle. I don't understand all of the negativity. Do Sen. Obama's supporters take their cues from polls and the mainstream media? I thought that we were smarter and stronger than that. Buck up people, this is going to be HARD and UGLY. Get with the program and work harder to get Sen. Obama elected. Do not succumb to the media pile on mentality. Take your cues from Senator Obama himself and from the campaign. AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, please stop whining.

I'm more committed than most of these "dems" too many are fickle. This is a tough fight so you've been knocked down, don't just lay there and cry, get up wipe away the tears, snot, and give it a big hail mary punch. That's how I approach life.
It sickens me sometimes to come here and listen to the crying. You all must remember that there are more people on this site than you expect. Some of just read and get up to date but don't blogg. You are on display, didn't your parents teach you not to whine in public.

Thanks for your support of Sen. Obama. I know that he has brought a lot of new people to politics and it seems to me that this is the first time that many people have participated so much and deeply in a campaign. I really don't mean to be harsh in my words but I just think that this is a time when Sen. Obama needs his supporters to be even more FIRED UP and even more STEADFAST than before. He didn't need us as much when things were just rolling. It seems to me that he needs us more today than ever. I will be in Indiana this weekend canvassing. I will make another donation to the campaign at the end of the week and I plan to make calls to NC during my lunch breaks this week. These are the things that I can control. This is how I can help elect Sen. Obama.

RASMUSSEN,
Daily Presidential Tracking Poll: Monday, April 28, 2008
OBAMA: 49%, CLINTON: 41%
Link
In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, it’s Obama 49%, Clinton 41% (see recent Democratic Nomination results). These numbers are identical to the results from just before Clinton’s victory in the Pennsylvania Primary. In fact, there has been essentially no change for the past seven days-- Obama’s support has stayed between 47% and 49% each day while Clinton’s support has ranged from 41% to 43%. Both candidates continue to enjoy strong support from their core constituencies and the race remains unchanged. As has been noted before, Clinton’s only path to the nomination is to stay close and hope that Obama makes a mistake. Rasmussen Markets data gives Obama an 80.0% chance of winning the Democratic nomination.

I saw the Wilmington meeting and I am fired up , too. Hillary has tried to play every possible angle. She's "behind the eight ball" and is trying to reach across the table, shoot a combination shot, jump over another ball, bank off of four rails and still reach the side pocket without scratching. All of this is necessary because if she cannot make the shot, then Obama is set to run the table!
Clinton is the proverbial "have your cake and eat it, too" kind of personality. Does "spoiled brat" come to mind? Sometimes, reality has a way of getting in the way. She very well could LOSE! Imagine that!

First, thank you Senator! It's such a delight to see the Superdelegates joining us in supporting Barack.
One more suggestion....
Mother's Day is coming May 11th. There are so many wonderful mothers and grandmas who've posted on this site as well as sons and daughters who've spoken about their moms and grandmothers with much love. I am asking us all to make this Mother's Day special. My loving kids and husband usually give me a present tied up with a ribbon.
This year I shamelessly begged for something different. I explained that nothing would make me happier than to have them make a donation for Barack in my honor. That is what they are doing, although I have a hunch that the lumpy package hidden in the corner of the hall closet also contains an Obamamama t-shirt!
Are there other moms and grandamas out there who will join with me in doing this? Or perhaps there are sons and daughters who want to make a donation in honor of a much loved mom or grandma who's also an Obama supporter? If you'd like to pledge your support, sign up here:

I would love to have some of you make your "Mother's Day" donation on my fundraisisng page:

I think he's just BITTER that State College, PA and Centre County went to Obama 60-40%! He's probably a Pirates fan too and given that they haven't had anything to be happy about for 15 years, he's decided to defecate all over our blog.
Wonderful use of your time, State College blogger! Come on, I went to PSU too, and even if you don't want to study, isn't there a party you can find?

But if he's not careful, I'll tell her again, and he won't get out until Hillary becomes President...or Hell freezes over...

Thank you for declaring your support for Obama. Thank you for having the foresight to do what's good for the party. The more Clintonism is allow to continue the more difficult it becomes for the Democratic Party's to gain more seats in the U.S. Congress. The Pennsylvania primary exposed the true ugliness of using old-style Democrat politics, running plays from Karl Rove's play book that are designed to divide-- us vs. them, liberals vs. conservatives, red state vs. blue state, etc. Look at the mess this has gotten the nation into -- botched wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, an enormous deficit, a debased currency and a stumbling economy. Once again, thank you for supporting Obama a leader who can unite this nation.

I did some calculations about how many SD Hillary would have to win to catch Obama assuming the remaining contests are split evenly among pledged delegates.
The answer Hillary would need 73% of about 300 remaining SD to 27% for Obama. (excludes MI and FL).
Obama is currently ahead by about 139 delegates total (161pledged - 22SD). Hillary will need about 220 more SD to 81 for Barack.
Dean says that all SD need to decide between now and sometime in June.
An Independent think tank says that there are 129 SD leaning to Obama and 39 to Hillary (they have been 70% correct in the past).
Link
In addition there are many delegates who will not vote for the loser of the Pledged Delegates - which Barack will probably lead by close to 160 after June 3.
This assumes that NC offsets KY+WV in delegates and IN is a draw. Also Guam+MT+SD offset PR.
So even if Barack loses Indiana by a few percent, Hillary can't win the SD but it may take well into June for Barack to reach 2024.

However, unless we make it very close in Indiana and win NC by like 15%, the above assumptions may not hold.
In light of Rev. Wright emerging this AM (I refuse to turn on TV to watch), and some new polls which are upsetting, we are going to need some major endorsements ASAP to change the media coverage.
It is a Catch 22. If the endorsements come then Barack will be able to get out his message and can still win Indiana to end the contest.
Edwards, Gore and Biden could definitely end this all. Secondly, Barack has to appeal to Indiana that if they vote for him Democrats will Unite and win in November. If not, it will take at least 2 more months before he wins, but will hurt all Democratic chances in November
He also has to appeal to Democrats not to let Rush Limbaugh decide the Democratic election. The latest SUSA poll shows 29% of voters to be Ind. and Repub. and Obama is only ahead by 2-3% instead of the 30% he used to lead in those groups
These appeals by Obama could win over 10% support.

Breaking: Senator Jeff Bingaman Endorses Obama
by kubla000
Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 12:14:20 PM PDT
Finally, some good news.
New Mexico Senator and superdelegate plans to throw his support behind the Land of Lincolner.
I won't lie. Today has been tough. AP has Clinton really moving ahead of Obama vs. McCain. PPP shows North Carolina Whites migrating to Clinton and Obama's once 25pnt lead cut in Half. Indiana isn't looking particularly promising with SUSA showing a formidable 9 point gap, and weakness in Independents on the rise. Obama has alot of holes to plug before the boat catches much water, starting with a Sock in Wright's Mouth. However, the math remains on our side and the magic number in terms of superdelegates is within reach.
* kubla000's diary :: ::
*
Even if Hillary wins Indiana and comes within single digits in North Carolina, Obama can still win the nomination. The road to the white house won't be easy, but then again, is anything worth having ever easy?
I am not ready to give up.
The fight remains in front of us all. Obama can't be wished or hoped into the Oval Office. The forces of the Media, the GOP, and the establishment Dems are conspiring against Change. You are that change, have you done your part today?
The Deadline is May 5th for those Obama Organizing Fellows among us.
One Million Calls Need to be Made to Indiana and North Carolina by May 6th
Voter Registraton in 50 States on May 10th; Sign Up Today!
Now, from the Senator's Statement
"Today, I am announcing my support for Barack Obama for president and declaring my intention to vote for him at the Democratic convention.
"Our nation faces a daunting number of critical challenges: reasserting America’s leadership in the world, meeting our needs for energy independence, addressing global warming, making healthcare accessible and affordable, positioning our economy to effectively compete globally, and extricating ourselves from the war in Iraq, to name a few.
"To make progress, we must rise above the partisanship and the issues that divide us to find common ground. We must move the country in a dramatically new direction.
"I strongly believe Barack Obama is best positioned to lead the nation in that new direction."

Richard,
Take your own advice and SHUT UP!
Wright does not seek your approval as to when or how or to whom he will speak. If you were under that impression, it's best shed now.
Rev. Wright is his OWN man and as a revered community elder and pastor he life's work and mission was God's work and God's word.
He DOES NOT need permission from Barack/this campaign or anyone else under the sun when defending his record against SMEAR and SLANDER.
If he chooses to speak or do an interview, he will, period.
This man of God has endured an appalling character assassination and mass vilification at the hands of MSM who LIED and DISTORTED his sermons at every turn resulting in death threats from the extremists who now want to kill him and Rev. Moss and even bomb their church and now he should
"go away"
or
"be quiet"
like any of you can instruct or command his actions!
He's entitled to all the freedoms and rights afforded everyone else....since he happened to have defended those rights and freedoms during 6 yrs in the military and as a US Marine.
The looped snippets were intended to damage the man and malign his record of 36 years in the ministry preaching countless sermons on love of God/Brotherhood of man, tireless community service for the poor, mentoring programs and scholarships for needy students, a drug rehabilitation program, intervention programs for youth at risk to gangs and assistance to those infected with HIV/AIDS.
What have any of you DONE with the time given to you that even comes close to what he has accomplished?
And now he should let his stellar record be impugned upon to make people like you comfortable?
Not going to happen!
His life's work is a testament to what I call Christianity in action as opposed to constant sermons on the fires of hell vs eternal life. He has a
right to protect and defend that legacy
and he is doing so.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I denounce the politics of fear, suspicion and hatred.
Dear Ishara,
I think Richard is entitled to his opinion, and it would behoove all of us to keep the tone on the blog civil.
Of course Rev. has suffered a character assasination, and this is indeed awful. But the other side of the question is - can he really do anything to repair it? And if he tries, isn't he just as likely to do more damage, both to himself and Obama?
I don't know the answers to those questions, but I do see the arguments on both sides, so could you please tone it done a tad?
Will he say anything about Rev. Wright today? It will dominate the media all week. They will try to use it to sway votes in Indiana and NOrth Carolina towards HRC.
Maybe he could at least thank him for giving the extra fodder to HRC and McCain. BO is playing 3-1. HRC, Bill and Mcain verus him. Rev. Wright makes it 4-1. He has a right to say what he wants but there is nothing he can say that will not take votes from Obama. Wish the man would have taken a longer sabatical.
I find it hilarious that there is all this attention given to a man who is the former pastor of Barack Obama, while Bill Clinton, who is MARRIED to the other candidate for the Democratic nomination, is more of a loose cannon than Jeremiah Wright could ever hope to be.
I could bet my bottom dollar if HRC was the candidate who had a "pastor" who was singled out as this one has been, we would have NEVER heard the "clips" of him/her nor would the media have continued to spin the "story"!! Yes, it is nothing but a "story", and as Barack says and again stated today -- He is interested in the NEEDS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, AND WILL PROMOTE HIS PLATFORM TO ADDRESS THOSE NEEDS!!
Bill Clinton has A GIRL IN EVERY PORT!! I'm sure if we could truly know the LIST of his current and former "lovers" the "biased media" would have ammunition to "spin" for at least a week or ten days at the least!! The list most likely extends from New York all the way around the world!! After all, he travels extensively and constantly!! And being the womanizer he is, that behavior will never end in his lifetime!! It is called addiction -- pure and simple!!
I cannot wait until Barack Obama is inauguarted as the President of the United States of America!! It will be interesting to see the MEDIA'S spin on that fabulous day -- after having ALL OF THE EGG ALL OVER THEIR FACE that they placed there after almost two years of biased coverage of HRC, I can hardly wait!!!!!
Jeff, I don't know whether the Rev. Wright issue will help or hurt Obama. The message delivered last night in prime time TV, was an extremely positive message for Obama. The press conference today was likely a bit negative, but I'm not sure that negative message will resonate with voters who still have the Rev. Wright speech of last night in their mind.
I believe main street is becoming very aware of how manpulative the MSM is, and I'm not sure many will believe a negative spin on Rev. Wright if they watched his speech last night. If they watch the interview, they will realize the fine Reverend isn't a politian and was set up on the questions.
With 63% of the voters not believing anything Hillary says, I don't think she can cause damage-particulary standing on the back of a flat bed truck waiting for a debate. :)
One way of the other ,I don't think it's going to affect Obama all that much, and will improve his voter turnout in NC.
The only real potential damage is if the issue defocuses people here. Phone calls, donations and knocking on doors wins Indiana and NC. I expect a win in Guam Saturday morning which should give Obama momentum for next week.
Jeff,
He is not going to get into a corner, sit down and be quiet nor does he seek your approval as to when or how or to whom he will speak. If you were under that impression, it's best shed now.
Rev. Wright is his OWN man and as a revered community elder and pastor he life's work and mission was God's work and God's word.
He DOES NOT need permission from Barack/this campaign or anyone else under the sun when defending his record against SMEAR and SLANDER.
If he chooses to speak or do an interview, he will, period.
This man of God has endured an appalling character assassination and mass vilification at the hands of MSM who LIED and DISTORTED his sermons at every turn resulting in death threats from the extremists who now want to kill him and Rev. Moss and even bomb their church and now he should
"go away"
or
"be quiet"
like any of you can instruct or command his actions!
He's entitled to all the freedoms and rights afforded everyone else....since he happened to have defended those rights and freedoms during 6 yrs in the military and as a US Marine.
The looped snippets were intended to damage the man and malign his record of 36 years in the ministry preaching countless sermons on love of God/Brotherhood of man, tireless community service for the poor, mentoring programs and scholarships for needy students, a drug rehabilitation program, intervention programs for youth at risk to gangs and assistance to those infected with HIV/AIDS.
What have any of you DONE with the time given to you that even comes close to what he has accomplished?
And now he should let his stellar record be impugned upon to make people like you comfortable?
Not going to happen!
His life's work is a testament to what I call Christianity in action as opposed to constant sermons on the fires of hell vs eternal life. He has a
right to protect and defend that legacy
and he is doing so.
To all the superdelegates who have endorsed Barack Obama, thank you for your courage and not giving a rip what the old, antiquated, pessimistic, cynical, negatively-charged establishment thinks!
McCain opposes Equal Pay for Women |
♍ Christi, Vote for Change ☮ -CA
Apr 28th 2008 at 4:17 pm EDT
Associated Press
NEW ORLEANS -- Republican Sen. John McCain, campaigning through poverty-stricken cities and towns, said Wednesday he opposes a Senate bill that seeks equal pay for women because it would lead to more lawsuits.
Senate Republicans killed the bill Wednesday night on a 56-42 vote that denied the measure the 60 votes needed to advance it to full debate and a vote. Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had delayed the vote to give McCain's Democratic rivals, Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama, time to return to Washington to support the measure, which would make it easier for women to sue their employers for pay discrimination.
McCain skipped the vote to campaign in New Orleans.
McCain stated his opposition to the bill as he campaigned in rural eastern Kentucky, where poverty is worse among women than men. The Arizona senator said he was familiar with the disparity but that there are better ways to help women find better paying jobs.
''They need the education and training, particularly since more and more women are heads of their households, as much or more than anybody else,'' McCain said. ``And it's hard for them to leave their families when they don't have somebody to take care of them.
That's the day I get my disability check. I have been living on $66.00 since I made my last donation to the campaign two weeks ago. I have $28.00 left. It will take all of that in gas to get to my VA hospital appointment tomorrow.
When I get paid Thursday I will make another donation. I get a "cost of living" raise every year. This year it was 2.2%. That in no way makes up for the increase in gas and grocery prices. I find myself with less left over every month. Next month I will have about $500.00 in disposable cash. That's because I have been saving like mad for the last few months.
Why am I telling all of you this? Because I feel I am typical of many of you. We are having a terrible time making it on fixed incomes because of the increase in oil and gas prices. This rise is a direct result of Clinton and Bush policies.
If you notice, the "negatives" are played up as though there is nothing else! It's all part of the "tear each other down" approach - very man-ipulative, I would say.
Obama is running against this "status quo," but Clinton is playing the game for all she is worth. It is no wonder that they resist him, any way they can, (especially FOX).
Here is the problem the way I see it with Senator Obama’s small town comment. He said and I quote:
"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Mr. Obama responded, according to a transcript published on the Web site.
"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
He is absolutely right about people being bitter. Where he started to lose blue-collar white males shows a temporary lack of insight on his part.
1. Rural Americans don’t cling to guns as a frustration. And they don’t cling to guns just to hunt and target shoot. They cling to their guns because the 2nd amendment provides that right in the event We the People have our political determinations removed. It doesn’t have anything to do with hunting. As in the Revolutionary War militia were local citizens often referred to as minutemen.
2. Even though I’m not a religious person I believe people turn to God because they believe God provides strength during troubled times.
3. Rural Americans aren’t anti-immigrant. They are anti-illegal-immigration.
4. Most Americans aren’t anti-trade. They are however anti-one-sided-trade agreements that rob us of our sovereignty, destroy our ability to defend ourselves, transfer our best technology to a repressive communist government, and lower our standard of living by destroying the middle-class.
As an Obama delegate in Texas I was taken back by his remark. Do I still support him? The answer is yes because I believe we can make this country great once again. Many will call Obama a protectionist. Protectionism is not a bad word when it comes to the well being of this nation. I for one am not ready to swap our sovereignty for global corporatism.
In the movie, they chopped them up, burned them up, ran over them, and they still wouldn't die! This woman died 12 contests ago, but just like the ZOMBIES she's walking around trying to SUCK THE BRAIN right out of BARACK'S head.
When is the DNC, NANCY PELOSI, JOE BIDEN, AL GORE or any of the rest going to NAIL THE COFFIN SHUT?
Feeling generous? Help me reach my fundraising goal. I need some serious help!
I think it's going bad for Barack. The press is really wants to destroy the guy especially CNN and ABC. Now, it's about the white vote this, the white vote that. Jeremia Wright gave his speech today and nobody dared to analyze because by doing so, they would automatically wheather the so called controversy. What are they asking right now? Is he going to hurt Obama.
CNN's Blitzer had an interview with Bill Richardson 30 minutes ago. When Richardson was explaining how popular Obama was in Venezuela, Wolf cut him off and asked about Wright.
No mention of this morning speech. I think we should be more vocal out there.
We can even march.
This is disgusting
I heard only part of Mad Dog's (er ... I mean Wolf's) interview, but it seemed to me he spent a HUGE amount of time asking Gov. Richardson about Rev. Wright, and only a minute or two on the fact that the Governor of New Mexico met this weekend over the possible release of hostages with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. HELLO? Which do you think might have a more positive effect on our country and its families, and which do you think might be considered to be NEWS, Wolf?
I receive your frustration, but remember where we are. We have more pledged delegates. We have won more states. It is very likely that we will maintain the popular vote lead as the final contests are going to be likely split. Hillary Clinton would have to get 70% of all the votes in each of the remaining states to catch Barack in the delegate lead.
#2 It is my belief that the current Wright tour can actually help Obama. Rev. Wright is upset with Barack. It is evident in his tone. The whole situation is unfortunate, for there were kernels of real truth in some of the Wright's comments. However, we need to focus on getting Barack in the White House. Back to my point. Some moderates that were possibly wavering on Obama will be more encouraged because it is clear that the relationship between the two men is not cozy.
#3 The news media thrives on conflict. It is a business. Reduce their ratings. Be strong. We are winning!!!
Medium level panic expressed = a bit over the top.
Worry that Rev Wright would not become a friend of the right wing, any wing, and media and exonerate himself.
Bill's worry that the media are only reporting an out of context 15 seconds of him.
Bill saying that Obama is questioning his record and that makes him mad.
Greeting Obama Family!
Remember last week when Sen. Hillary Clinton quoted Harry Truman," If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen?" Well, it seems that her kitchen has gotten a little too hot, in light of her latest defections. Why is it that some of her biggest supporters are leaving? Gabriel Guerra-Mondragon is the least of Sen. Clinton's problems.
Let me take you back a little bit further. I know that most of you are familiar with the story of Moses. For years, Bill and Hillary Clinton have been the rulers of the Democratic Party. They have been the Golden Couple, and have been regarded as such. Bill has made millions because of this elevated status. Hillary went on to become Senator Clinton of NY, they were unstoppable. After all, who dare take on the Clinton's?
Somehow they've come to believe that they are Egypt, and the White House belongs to them. We, the Hebrews always accepted it, the few of us that pushed against it died, met with unfortunate accidents, WHILE the masses continually lifted them up. Pretty sweet setup huh? The funny thing is- they didn't count on Moses. Barack is the equivalent of Moses to the Clinton's. Now remember that Moses and Rameses were raised as brothers. Barack, Hillary, and Bill are all Democrats. So, why the harsh attacks? The problem is they didn't see him coming, and all they've wanted to do since he came was banish and destroy him.
They want to destroy what gives people hope. This is how you know the Clinton's are corrupt. Why would you want to destroy someone that has been so good to so many others? Hillary's campaign will fail. But it will fail at her own hands. If you recall, the 10th plague that took down Egypt came from the mouth of the Pharaoh. Hillary Clinton has spoke death to her own campaign. Those who can't stand the heat- will get out of the kitchen, in fact, they've already started walking out.
Agree with this summation? Donate to my fundraiser!
This means ***1,825,000 MILES*** have been donated to date — putting ***71 VOLUNTEERS*** on the ground, helping bring it home for Barack.
VOLUNTEERS: If you want to spend a week or more in IN or NC, but can’t afford to pay your own way, contact me NOW and I’ll try to match you with an airline ticket. The longer you wait, the less likely we’ll be able to help you.
DONORS: It takes 25,000 miles for a ticket. So — who’s got at least 25,000 on the same airline which they’d like to donate toward making sure Barack Obama is our next President?
Step right up — I’m getting requests almost daily from volunteers who want to help but can’t afford the airfare. Donate now, please, so we can get these people where they’re most needed. *** WE NEED MORE MILES! ***
There is some sort of mythical bus that as a politician you are supposed to throw people under. The media folks want desparately for Obama to throw someone under this "bus" so they can ridicule him for it. If there are people on this bus and someone driving it I would like make a suggestion. Stop drinking and driving. You might hurt those poor folks on the bus or run someone over who was not pushed in front of it. DUI is a serious offense.
In the DNC presidential primary race a candidate needs 1,627 pledged delegates to secure the majority of pledged delegates. Once you secure the majority, you will have won the pledged delegate battle.
We need 133 pledged delegates to hit the magic number of 1,627. When we get there, we will automatically gain five supers and HRC will lose one.
We will also be awarded the super-delegates in the "Pelosi Club" (currently 8 and growing). This is a group of super-delegates that have pledged to endorse the candidate with the most pledged delegates. Below is a link with more on the Pelosi Club.
Link
It looks like we should be able to hit the magic number of 1,627 pledged delegates after the Oregon primary. After Oregon, we will need less than 100 supers to flow our way and the nomination is ours. Below is a great link that breaks it down.
Link
HRC and her camp are always pointing out that neither candidate can secure the 2,024. But she conveniently leaves out the fact that we CAN secure the majority of pledged delegates, which will be the benchmark that most supers will base their decision on.
We are in the drivers seat and despite all the silliness going on right now, it's just a matter of time before we can start fully concentrating our efforts on McSame.
On October 2, 2002, Barack Obama’s judgment told him that starting a war in Iraq would be a big mistake and he forcefully said so. Much to the contrary later that same month both Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain voted for funds authorizing President Bush to begin the Iraq war.
When Barack Obama decided to run for president, unlike Hillary Clinton and John McCain, he made the significant decision that he would not accept campaign contributions from lobbyists and special interest political action committees. It was Barack Obama’s judgment that if he was going to become the next President of the United States that he be elected by the American people without the distorting influence of the money peddlers in Washington.
That’s the kind of change that Barack Obama represents which concerns so many in Washington who don’t seem eager for the American people to reclaim their democracy from the influence of special interest political action committees and lobbyists, the Washington money peddlers who currently arrange to provide huge amounts of financial support to political candidates whom they believe have a good chance of winning, and whom they can then “work with” later on.
This election is not about whether you happen to be a woman or a man, or whether your father was a black man or a white man, an Asian or a Hispanic. It is not about remarks made by Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. or anyone else. This election is about the future of our country and is about whether the majority of Americans are ready to elect as their next president an individual with integrity, intelligence, and fresh ideas, a 47 year old biracial man who is much less interested in political games than he is in seriously addressing the significant problems facing our country and the rest of the world.
We are at a historic moment in America. Barack Obama is a very special individual who as president will bring a much needed breath of fresh air to Washington and help ordinary Americans begin reclaiming their democracy.
I was reading onMSNBC First Read about the greatrebuttal that Obama had today to Mccain. However, he blew it all at the end when he said "That's the way Washington works"
Listen, it is not about "...Washington...". anymore. It is about the Republicans. That's the way that Republicans work.
the candidate has got to get focused on that.
also, whatever staffer told NYT that Obama was bored with the Primary race has to get fired.
Finally, and I say this as a guy who voted for Obama in my own state, it looks weak for him to not debate Hillary Clinton. It really does. It looks like Kerry not responding to the swiftboat ads.
Right now, it looks like Obama does not want to fight. He has to face her and beat her. He is not going to win this thing on points. Not anymore. He has to knock her out in the ring, metaphorically speaking.
I am a PA guy, a Philly guy. Obama has to show fight, soon. Otherwise, the supers may not go either way. they may wait until the convention and vote for favorite sons on the first few ballots.
If Obama wants this thing, he has to go get it.
It's hard to focus on the Republicans when we have to contend with HRC and her unwillingness to drop out of a losing cause. It's obvious that she realizes it's a losing cause, that's why she won't dump any more of her own money into it. But she's more than willing to yank hard earned cash from her supporters to pay back her $5 million loan and the other $10+ million she has in debt. I think it's sad and ridiculous that people are still throwing money into that bottomless pit. And it's very perplexing as to why they won't ask HRC the big question. Why won't she donate to her own cause? She made over $100 million bucks over the past few years.
BO is right, this primary is boring. It's boring because most sane individuals realize that it's over.
BO does not need to fight. This thing is over. If HRC was in our position, we couldn't get the time of day, much less a debate. She would probably delete every reference to BO in her stump speeches and start directing all attacks towards McCain.
If HRC was in our position she would probably embarrass us by pretending we didn't even exist. So we don't need any more debates for the rest of this primary. The person losing is usually the one that wants to debate, because they have nothing to lose. But the frontrunner has nothing to gain, especially after 21 debates.
Please Copy/Paste the story below into an email message and spread the word:
------------------------------ --------------------
In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, 'Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,' gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.
In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman. (They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.) The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy's premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief's medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery.
For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation. What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated.
While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/ sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father.
Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.
Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?
After leaving the service of his country, the young man finished his final year of college, entered the seminary, was ordained as a minister, and eventually became pastor of a large church in one of America's biggest cities.
This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ.
I don't know if this will matter but I think it would at least make a good talking point to the SD's.
I was chased from the Democrat party over 15 years ago by the Clintons. Their behavior and the Democrate's defence of them was the last straw for me. I have voted Republican ever since. However, I am an adement supporter of Barack Obama. I've written letters to papers and SD's and donated money (something I've never done before).
I'm basically a libratarian so I am compromising some issue because I believe the quality and character of Barack is one I have not seen in a presidential candidate. I respect him as the decent, honest and brilliant man that he is.
But if Hillary is nominated I will vote early and often for McCain. The only reason Obama is not getting the blue collar votes is because he won't lie to them (such as "I'll bring steel back to Pittsburgh")and make promises he knows can't be kept. And he's black. (As a white man I'm ashamed to say). If the democrat party does'nt give Obama the nomination because on these points he is not electable I will leave the democrat party again to never return.
I honestly believe there are a lot of Repubs. that feel as I do. We are usually not in the polling now but represent a fair number. I would like to see a poll of us, I believe we far out number the Repubs that switch to reek havoc. But, without Obama we will be gone. I don't think there will be many Repubs switching to vote for Hillary In the general.
Oh, and remember we are here bitting our tongues when you bash Repubs as Hillary woul do.
We must keep our mobilizing going in NC; however, almost more critical is that we light up the phone lines in Indiana. If we can win NC and IN, Clinton will not doubt be forced to commence with the bow out. Because of the principled and expansive speech that Obama gave on race, we will be able to weather this brief Wright gust. Hi, everyone!
I have to admit that I have been "lurking" amongst the blog posts for a few months...I have already donated to the campaign, but I finally got the courage to actually join the 'Nation.'
When I simply cannot stomach the corporate media spin and punditry any more, I turn to this site for comfort and shelter from the storm. I wanted to add my voice to this wonderful site, so that I could be one MORE voice for the movement to build upon - one more brick in the wall,so to speak - so that we'll eventually become a roaring crescendo that no one can ignore.
Senator Obama needs us to remain strong and passionate about the change we want and believe in. I humbly ask - what can I do to help?
Just like me, I guess a lot of Obama's fan are feeling a little bit rattled right now due to the obvious devilish activities of the media. I for one is a little bit dejected. But what I have found out over the years is that just like hope, dejection is very infectious. Let us cheer up and do our best, Let us cast aside the garment of gloominess, knowing that quitters don't win. Let us burn the bridge behind us and declare our resolve not to surrender.
The giants on our way are the Devil surrogates that thrive in the atmosphere of divisiveness. But I believe that like the Biblical David, NO giant can stand on the way of ordinary people that are destined to change the World.
There is nothing more for Barack to say that he has not said about Rev Wright. There may a jubilation in the camp of the enemy but in the end, the TRUTH shall triumph over evil!
Sorry, He has done that many times. The problem is not Rev Wright, the problem is the media. Hillary and McCain have "truck full" of questionable associations than Obama, but the media have their own reason of pummeling Obama. Besides, there are dozens of white and black preachers that are more controversial than Wright, and that have said more stupid things. I think that Democrat is finished if Clinton use this wright issue to subtly kill Obama's political career. There are thousands of us black youth that will mobilize against the democrats.
This is from Friday, but I hadn't seen anything on it. I think its a hell of an endorsement.
From DailyKos (with video of the interviews):
Two Nobel Prize Economists Recommend Obama
"MSNBC has two Nobel Prize economists on right now. They were asked which of the three - Obama, Clinton or McCain - would be best for the economy, and both replied Obama.
Joseph Stiglitz, who was connected to the Clinton presidency and a 2001 prize winner, said that Obama's speech 3 weeks ago on the economy was brilliant. He also said that the deregulation of the markets during Clinton's presidency was a mistake and the markets need to be re-regulated.
Edmund Phelps, 2006 prize winner, agreed. We need a new way of looking at the economy and Obama is the one that can do that. We do not need the thinking of the past."
Apparently Guam has started voting on one of the islands and will finish on Saturday. I read elsewhere that the Guam Convention will also occur this weekend, so we may have the final results for all 4+5 delegates. Perhaps we could get a nice net gain before Indiana votes Tuesday.
Thanx to the Senator on his Prudent Endorsement. Barack its now your turn to put out a Decisive ad about Rev. Wright, Mr. Ayers, and Mr Rizcko.
Obama most christians join a church to enhance their personal relationship with GOD. I attend a church that a perishioner refused to shake my hand in Church right before communion, a tradition for Catholics. As a Black man I could have read a lot into it but I cant because Jesus said the Kingdom is thru him and nobody else. Not even the Priest who introduces us to Jesus.
One cannot leave a church cause of Man. We Catholics have had some Priests who have done abominable things. Did we leave the churches. Hell NO. We forgave the Mistake and Continued seeking the Kingdom.
So Obama talk about the above people with Strength. Yes as a Politician you are suposed to run from bad people but as a Christian Jesus tells us to embrace the sinners and pray for them and ourselves.
Condemn what the Pastor said but not the man. Condemn anyone who would use his speeches for any reason, because to do so there will be no difference with the Pastors Words.
Do something Today.
This is a note to Sen. Jeff Bingaman(D NM). I am so grateful for your standing up in the face of
in this Campaign are too important for the brand
of press that Republicans and some Democrates are thriving on today. You know I was getting a
little discouraged until I saw that you announced
your support today of all days. This rampage of Rev. Jeremiah Wright,
for what ever reason could not have come at a worse time. Hovever, I believe in the power of
prayer and the ability of Sen. Obama to stay above the prey. He needs to use this moment to
teach us about The Free Speech and Rev. Wright's
Constitutional and Religious Right. He can not stop him but he certainly has my permission as a
Black Christian who Loves the Lord and believes that God is not the Aurthor of Confusion but rather the sustainer of truth. Though I agree that Rev. Wright is trying to defend what he believes, but to use this arena to it causes me
to question Where is God in it.
Dear Senator Obama,
I believe slow reaction or insufficient reaction is as bad as no action. You are a man of good judgment and character. This Rev Wright issue is becoming an albatross that must be done away with to save your message and our change movement. Rev. Wright 's speech @ NACCP and interview with Moyers were great and speak to his scholastic and educational prowess. Stopping at that would have by now silenced the media hawks and critics but his so-called press club thing in Washington was a complete disaster. It is evident that the driving force behind his message is the emancipation of black race. That is polarizing and that is not what millions of Obama's voices are about. We have a different message. It is accomplishing greatness in government by uniting Americans beyond race and petty issues. It is time to speak out. Twenty-four hours is too long to respond. Underrating the damage this may cause may be too hard to recover from.
Devowing Rev Wright may not be the way to go. Generic denouncing of his comments is not enough. But you can at least let Americans know your views on some of Wright's hurtful and conspiracy theory and how much you love and owe America that we all love. People are not offended with Wright as a Pastor or his church or his achievement but with his absurd and offensive views about America as a way of venting his bitterness for black struggle and past pains.
Dear Obama, acting decisively and timely is yours to show for the sake of our change movement.
Change is not easy, they will try to derail our focus. Thank you again for jumping on our train, Barack will change Washington's divisive politics and get the focus back on to us, the people!
Thank You Very Much ! |
