NEW ORLEANS, LA -- ACORN’s Political Action Committee today announced that it has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for President.
ACORN PAC’s representatives went through an extensive process of interviewing each of the major Democratic candidates. ACORN is a national anti-poverty organization which has hundreds of thousands of members in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods in 104 cities.
“Last night, Sen. Obama received the more than necessary two-thirds of the majority needed from our elected national leadership to secure the endorsement,” said Maude Hurd, ACORN’s National President. “Over the past months, we have worked with the leading candidates; ACORN’s members have deep appreciation and respect for Senators Clinton and Edwards and their work on behalf of our communities. What it came down to was that Senator Obama is the candidate who best understands and can affect change on the issues ACORN cares about like stopping foreclosures, enacting fair and comprehensive immigration reform, and building stronger and safer communities across America.”
Alicia Russell of Arizona, ACORN’s western regional representative, said Obama relates to the issues facing low- and moderate-income people. “I think he will commit himself to providing us the necessary path for the low-income and moderate-income families to improve their lives,” Russell said. “He’s on the same level as we are, and sees our issues as we do.”
In the past three weeks, Sen. Obama has met with ACORN leaders regarding foreclosure prevention solutions, including a roundtable discussion on Tuesday in San Antonio.
“Texas ACORN members are proud to stand with Senator Obama in calling for fundamental change in our economy to protect homeowners and neighborhoods from the scourge of foreclosures that is sweeping communities across Texas,” said Texas ACORN president Toni McElroy.
When Obama met with ACORN leaders in November, he reminded them of his history with ACORN and his beginnings in Illinois as a Project Vote organizer, a nonprofit focused on voter rights and education. Senator Obama said, "I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work.”
ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, with over 350,000 member families organized into 800 neighborhood chapters in 104 cities across the country. Since 1970 ACORN has taken action and won victories on issues of concern to its members, including better housing for first time homebuyers and tenants, living wages for low-wage workers, more investment in our communities from banks and governments, and better public schools.

I know he's ready, has the integrity, has the sense, all the reasons I've supported him these many months is why I know he'll do well in the debate. I'm just very concerned that she'll be so nasty the stage will fill with it....esp after watching her in that MSNBC special last night. something much like 'if that doesn't work, you beat (her opponent's) brains in'
She'll self destruct before she gives up on this election, it's just a matter of whether it's an EXplosion or IMplosion....GO BARACK!!!

This will be very informative about how she is planning on loosing this election. Is she going to go gracefully or mimic her horrible husband and become an embarrassment and spectacle.
I think she has a little more class than Bill Clinton. And may be willing to loose gracefully.

Is this a PAC in the same sense as the ridiculous one that is funding $10 million of Hillary's advertising right now? Barack has said he doesn't take money from PACs and I believe him. I hope this PAC doesn't try to donate to him, and if they do, I hope he donates it to charity.

Technically speaking ACORN is a PAC. However, a more accurate term to describe ACORN would be an advocacy group for those living in poverty or lower income families. I'm sure that since they are still a PAC that Obama won't take any funding from them. Still, their endorsement just underscores that fact that Obama has cut into and will probably continue to take even more of Clinton's so called "solid base" of lower income Democrats.

The group funding $10 million worth of anti-Obama ads is not a PAC (political action committee) it is a 527 (named after the section of FEC code which describes it).

527 just refers to the IRS code (not FEC code) that PAC's have to follow. Here's the IRS link for your review:
Link
So I believe the ACORN PAC and a 527 group of people are the same regarding filings required. Each group has their own objectives. Endorsing Senator Obama doesn't sound like they are "independent", does it?
Also per Fox News the other day, there were two 527 groups who ran ads for Senator Obama up to the Super Tuesday events... Here's the link for your review and make sure you read the last paragraph:

PACs and lobbyists aren't all bad, just FYI; SOME lobbyists are in fact for non-profit organizations and such. That being said, there is a 5k contribution ceiling on PACs anyway; lobbyists (that I'm aware of?) have no such limits. All unions have PACs, so I can speak a bit about it as a union leader.
NO, no PAC is the same as a 527; PACs donate manpower and that 5K to the candidates (tho we know Barack won't accept that anyway). However, some PACs DO form independent 527s, which act independently of any campaign finance laws, because they don't specifically and directly deal WITH the candidate. Their funding can be independent of the campaign finance laws and there is no limit, since they aren't 'working on behalf of' the candidate. IF they communicate with the candidate in any way, then they cease to follow the laws. I would think any candidate seeking to shut down their own 527 could easily do so by calling them up and asking them to quit it. But I can't see HDRC doing that. I had hopes that JRE would, and he may in fact have done that since their ads quit.

Note that Senator Obama says that he does not take money from federal lobbyists, but what about other lobbyists such as "state lobbyists". I'm sure if you google on this you will have no problem finding that he has taken state lobbyists money (there are many articles out there on this).... Just a thought--when I read something that's too good to be true, I like to research it a bit as I'm sure you would as well. Here's one just for fun:
