With Florida, and Michigan, Obama is still ahead net 112 pledged delegates, and TOTAL net 130 delegates
TOTAL net = JAN - 24 - FEB - 141 - MAR - 5 = 170 - APR = 158 - MAY = 168
If it had counted, Florida's vote would have given 105 pledged delegates to Clinton and 67 to Obama, out of a total 185.
Link
Florida has 25 superdelegates.
TOTAL = net 130
The primary in Michigan would have given 73 delegates to Clinton, with 55 uncommitted out of a total 128 pledged delegates.
Link
It also has 28 superdelegates.
TOTAL = net 112
Link
Obama is still ahead net 168 pledged delegates.
Total Delegates 1,903.5
Senator Obama is now 120.5 delegates away from 2025 without Florida, and Michigan.
Should Florida and Michigan be seated 2209 would be needed.
Florida's vote would have given 67 to Senator Obama.
Michigan's vote would have given 55 to Senator Obama.
Total Delegates with Florida, and Michigan, 2018.5
182.5 delegates away from 2209
TOTAL - 225 - Super Delegates remain without Florida, and Michigan.
Florida has 25 superdelegates.
Michigan has 28 superdelegates.
TOTAL - 278 - Super Delegates remain With Florida, and Michigan,
TOTAL pledged Delegates remain
may 20 Kentucky 51
Oregon 52
jun 1 Puerto Rico 55
jun 3 Montana 16South Dakota 15
_____________________________
TOTAL 189 pledged delegates remain to be chosen
TOTAL - 467 - pledged plus Super delegates remain With Florida, and Michigan,
Senator Obama would need 182.5 delegates out of a total 468 remain delegates to be at 2209
HRC Total Delegates 1718.5
Florida's vote would have given 105 to HRC.
Michigan's vote would have given 73 to HRC.
Total Delegates with Florida, and Michigan, 1896.5
HRC would need 312.5 delegates out of a total 468 remain delegates to be at 2209
Subtract Senator Obama's 182.5 needed of HRC 312.5 needed = Obama is still 130 delegates ahead with Florida, and Michigan.

Florida, Michigan delegates cannot save Clinton
Sorry, Sen. Clinton. Michigan and Florida can't save your campaign. Interviews with those considering how to handle the two states' banished convention delegates found little interest in the former first lady's best-case scenario.
And even if they were, it wouldn't erase Barack Obama's growing lead in delegates over Hillary Rodham Clinton

The first thing that I couldn't help but notice is, in big letters, Michigan and Florida, with a picture of the two states in reverse placement.
Florida above Michigan.
Or is it just me?

Hello ObamaNation,
I am ready for the primary to end and the General to begin. I am ready for Barack and the Democratic Party to pull a None Stop Express on the Bush-McCain attempt to railroad the American People. We need to mount up all our energy and resources to bring the true rain of terror to an end. I am a 48 year old AA Female who is a U.S.Army Veteran and it pisses me off about how the Bush Administration has disregarded not only our Constitution, but also Bush-McCain are disrespecting the 4,000 plus deaths of our troops who are fighting a senseless war in Iraq. They are showing no respect for the sacrifices the men and women who serve in our military have given, and nor or they respecting the families that have sacrificed their sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, wifes, husbands, mothers, and fathers. We are a strong Country who is plentyfull in resources, but we can't take care of the needs of this Country when we are spending billions of dollars to rebuild another Country. We are rebuilding Iraq while that Government has billions of dollars growing interest in banks. Come on Americans, wake the hell up, and start saying with one loud voice ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
LOVE, GRACE, AND PEACE
ROBBY FROM LOUISIANA who knows Barack is what this Country need at this time in History, not because he is Bi-Racial, but because he is the light at the end of the very dark tunnel.

I have one question for you people who talk about Bush's failed policies-how many times since he launched the war on terrorism has this country been attacked? Did any of you ever stop to consider if we were not fighting the terrorists in THEIR country where we would be fighting them? I am not even a defender of Bush-registered Democrat here with a son in the US Army. But as an American I am very grateful we took the war to them that it is NOT American babies living in cities torn apart by bombs & fighting. I am a Democrat that will vote McCain-I do not want a first lady that is "ashamed of her country", the reverend Wright issue-either way you think of it its a problem-as a Christian that attends Church I can not imagine attending my Church 20 yrs & not knowing what my pastor-especially 1 that brought me to God-believes (not to mention read the Church manifesto)or better yet I attended this church 20+ yrs & never paid attention-well then why was he in Church? (which is pretty insulting to American intelligence that we would buy this story) What type of parenting skills does it demonstrate to expose children repeatably to a pastor-that you have no idea what he believes..sorry as a parent I want to know what type of adult is influencing my child's belief system. What type of parent teaches their children it is acceptable to befriend terrorists of their country-AKA Bill Ayers?

How many times was America attacked before 9/11? Was it Iraq or terrorists from Iraq that attacked us? Where in sam heck is Osama Bin Laden? How many unwarranted deaths in Iraq are on our Presidents head? How many immigrants will be deported and back in the United States within days... so much for "Homeland Security". What a joke, build a wall and the tunnels get deeper and the ladders get taller. Michelle is proud of this country in the full sense of the word because never before has an African American or any person of minority color come this far in any campaign for Presidency.
If you vote for McCain, expect that our vulnerability gets worse not better! Iraq was not a haven for Al Qaeda until we made Iraq vulnerable enough to allow terrorists to set up shop.
There is a difference between ignorance by choice and merely being uninformed, I am in high hopes that you are simply uninformed.

Hi Brandi,
You stated the right question and that was How many times was Armerica atacked before 9/11? This Country under poor leadership has put the people of America at great risk. This Country use to have one of the strongest military, and high respect around the globe. Now our military is weak and by the looks of it, it will take years to rebuild the force we had when I was in the military, and it will take twice that long for the world to become comfortable with the U.S. as a strong leader. Under the failed leadership we have a military that is being depleated, and that which was an all volunteer military will soon have to become a military that is based on bringing back the draft. This Government has lied constently to the American People, and they have disregarded The Constitution of The United States of America. I for one will not allow another Bush 3rd term with John McCain and the other lynchmen who's mentallity is shoot first and ask questions later. For all those who are willing to sacrifice there children or grandchildren safety, than all I would say is why don't you go and volunteer for a war knowingly, that way you can share in the sacrifice that they will have to make for a Government that has shown it cares nothing about their future or yours. I pray that the American People wake up, and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

We do have some real scary enemies in the world who want to kill us. And we must go out and confront those people. The question though is how to do it.
This is a big sprawling issue about tactics and strategy. Everyone has a piece of the truth in this discussion. But after 7 years of watching Bush try and figure this out, I believe we are justified in concluding he has gone down the wrong path, strategically and tactically.
Obama will follow a better path. That is why I am voting for him, and that is why you should too.

You have allowed Geroge Bush to frame your thinking. Our enemy is in Pakistan/Afghanistan mountaim ranges. That is our battlefield. If George Bush had taken the British and Canadian reports serious when they WARNED US that we would be attacked by plane, if our American entreprenuers had not offered simulated flight courses to terrorists and if our nation had not issued driver's license without proof of residency, we would have never been attacked.
We were too arrogant to care about an attack, we attacked in Iraq because as George Bush, Jr has stated so many times, 'THEY TRIED TO KILL MY DADDY", They are WALKING ON HIS FACE IN FRONT OF THEIR HOTEL". This is why we fight in IRAQ?
No matter who is is office, we would have national security after the fact. But how safe do you think we will continue to be with George Bush leasing out our import bases to Arab nations? Did you voice an opinion against that?
did you know that McCain was freed only after he
gave the enemy the information that they needed to attack and kill his fellow soldiers? I do, and I don't think to highly of him for doing so.
Michelle Obama has already enlightened those who may have misunderstood her comments. If you want to be 'stuck on stupid' go ahead. You may not be aware of it, but there are two Americas, and to be kicked in your teeth, just because of the color of your skin is a HARSH REALITY that Senator Obama is trying to get America to deal with in a wholesome responsible way.
Where's your questions about McCain's infidelity? Did you ask why Clinton still remains a member where her pastor was just convicted as a pedophile and is going to jail for it? The charges against Mr. Ayers was dropped 20 years ago. The frienship that you should be worried about are the one's that Senator McCain has with his staff who ARE CURRENTLY involved with countries and companies linked to terrorists activities. You and Sean Hannity are really pretty dull witted. If you like Senator McCain so much, go donate to his website, give to his campaign. did you get lost on your way to donate?
America needs someone who is smart, with specific plans to keep America safe and restore America's reputation. That man is Senator OBama!!

Actually, the way Senator Obama speaks shows me that he is actually thinking while he is speaking and not simply parroting what is written down for him. Many times a pause is followed by something entirely new and extemporaneous.
I also like it that Senator Obama actually answers the questions he is asked. Yes, sometimes it takes him longer to actually answer the question, but I prefer the pause to the immediate spin responses one hears from most politicians.
I am also in California. Perhaps you should advise your friends to listen a bit to Senator McCain. His speaking style is fairly atrocious.

I teach interpersonal communications (sociology) and just covered this last week. Ums and ahs tend to be the result of two things:
1. Thinking as you speak....it gives you time to pick your next words.
2. It's a representation of American culture. We do not like silences and tend to fill our speech with these kinds of words as a result. It's like when we make small talk rather than sit in uncomfortable silence. It's just who we are.

I am taking a communication class and what Obama does is called a VOCAL PAUSE.
VOCAL PAUSE- or hesitations are usually short in duration, whereas silence generally refers to extended periods of time w/out sound.
FROM TEXT:
Vocal Pauses can be used to emphasizea word or thought or to make a point to get others attention (teachers use it this way). Sometimes used to gather thought or to make a point by getting an individuals attention. Regardless of how its used it does send a message.

Not only do his pauses give him time to think, and give a thoughtful response, it gives me time to think and digest what he is saying.

I did what he wanted to get an A out of his class, but quite frankly, I think those utterances do in most instances convey someone who is speaking extemporaneously, filling in the empty space between thoughts, with sound, truly giving credence to his words before ejecting them out into the air, after which they are unretrievable, and better yet, digging within himself, instead of memorizing some canned presentation. He sounds authentic.

Are you kidding? Compared to the many books of "Bushisms", that's funny! Have they heard McSame speak? The more he opens his mouth, the more senile he sounds. Scary! Barack is so intelligent & pauses to think before he speaks. (And he knows the definition of words such as "appeasement").

"with all due respect",everytime i see mr. obama standing behind the CHANGE sign, i'm tempted to hand him a twenty dollar bill for a ten,a five & five singles. a recommendation if he gets to the general election: madison avenue should & must be consulted in his endeavor to sell himself. make no mistake, all nominees are brands. the republicans will be laughing all the way to the white house, yet again, if the obamistas continue to encourage him to sit down at the table with terrorists.... we already have a dangerous & foolhardy president. do we need another one? bush wants to blow them to bits, obama wants to have a nice cup of tea & chat. there's got to be another way & i'm terribly afraid none of these well-intentioned political geniuses have a clue. who ever wins in november, we lose as usual.

i guess having a masters and graduating phi beta kappa isn't quite enough education for this over-bloated blog. & why is a little healthy criticism met with such rancor? your brilliant comment OBAMA!!! is "substantive"? i have never come to the "party" empty-handed but if i did, i would think it a lesser offense than coming to the "party" empty-headed. i'm not referring to you, of course.
by the way, i hear amadinejad is bringing earl grey & pastries to the table if he & mr. obama have their "diplomtic" tete-a-tete. i see that as a promising sign that he's ready to change his mind about annihilating israel & the u.s. don't you? such civility!
contrary to what you might think, i like barack. unfortunately i find his foreign policy naive & counter-productive & i think it's going to lose him the general election. i also think that he handles criticism much more eloquently than some of his fanatical contituents. i'm not referring to you, of course.

are Sean Hannity posers and are just a waste of time! They are born knucklheads and they will always be knuckleheads.

Just remember this: John McCain's own party doesn't like him, nor do they embrace him.
Every superdelegate is a politically savvy individual, they know the political game. Senator Obama has defeated the hate mongers of politics with his message of hope for a better America.
Don't waste time on these trolls. Puerto Rico is coming up. PLEASE COMMIT TO PHONE BANKING!!
This is where we can stand strong.
Our goal is to stand together and pull our resources together to get Senator Obama to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Remember this is just the primaries. We've only begun to fight!!
Stay positive. Make a pledge, everytime some one posts something negative on this site, donate $25, or host a 'call party at your home'.
We will win this nomination!!!!

I really think the news media has their spin all wrong. They claim that Barack Hussien Obama is doing well with college educated people. Reading the immature & childish comments that are posted here I find this very difficult to believe. I hope that some of you realize that you are hurting Obama's chances of swaying an undecided. When people who are undecided come onto a website like this it is generally to gain a sense of the candidate. When a candidate's supporters are ignorant it makes you question the candidate themselves. I was a undecided voter-a registered Democrat who supported Hillary-scared to death of Obama & his naive ideas among other things. You people have convinced me to vote for McCain-not because I like him particularly but the mentality of some I have seen on this Board scares me worse than anything McCain can do.

Well, Victoria, you want to judge BO by the posters on this blog. Might I suggest you see a video of Kevin James on Chris Matthews show on yesterday. If he represents McCain's supporters and you feel that he is knowledgeable, thoughtful, insightful, intelligent then you should really be afraid. Most of the people on this blog are aware of the issues and problems that need to be solved today. Many of us are beyond arguing the point as to why BO should be the nominee(I think you know why). If you are truly an issues person who supports Hillary then you must agree that Barack and Hillary are pretty close on them. The only difference is approach. Are you concerned about women's rights, the Iraq war, the economy, healthcare? McCain wants us to stay in Iraq for 100 years, wants to replace retiring SC justices with ultraconservative ones, thinks the economy is just fine, and hasn't come close to a credible healthcare plan. Do you want your rights taken away? Haven't you had enough of this? I know you are feeling hurt right now but don't let you emotions overshadowing your thinking. I am a woman with children and these issues are important to me and I, with my government, want to see these issues acted upon immediately. I can't wait another 8 years. Can you?

Victoria,
The Obama website has a blue print available for any and all who would like to read and get informed of where he stands on issues and policy. We've read his blue print and we've chosen to support Obama, we don't judge one another, because we know the world is made of people of different walks and talks.
Blue Print:
Link
Family like to have fun together, and that's what we are. The bloggers on this site have never met each other before and have found a place to meet up and have some fun, to lighten the air some. (This race can get pretty ugly at times.)
A democrat voting for McCain puzzles me, because there's a huge divide on the issues, the difference are too great. Iraq war vs No Iraq war, Healthcare vs No Healthcare, bad foreign policy vs smart foreign policy, and the list goes on...
If you want intelligent conversation initiate an intelligent conversation. Don't be judgemental and accusatory. If you have questions, ask and I guarantee some informed person will provide a response.
So my question for you is... were you really undecided?

Victoria: You better believe that the people on this site are very intelligent-- The spin is--we can be Honest AND intelligent AND down to earth (not elitist) at the same time. In fact, if you spend a little time here you'll find out for yourself. You will also find that they are very much informed-- they know their resources. If you would take the time to follow some of the links that are posted here you too can become informed and learn for yourself why there is such a passion for Barack Obama! IT IS (T)HIS TIME!
I'm sure you're not looking for a reason to vote for McCain-- but a reason not to vote for Obama. That's too sad-- Have you really took a good look at the choices-- Oh, and the so called "experience"... Where has it gotten this country-- Where do you think the so called experience like "McCain" or for that matter Hillary Clinton (I did not say Bill) will take us? You really need to do your research. I can assure you that if you were not so bent on being critical you'd have a lot of fun on this site-- and most certainly you would be informed. It's your choice.

TOTAL = net 130
The primary in Michigan would have given 73 delegates to Clinton, with 55 uncommitted out of a total 128 pledged delegates.
Link
It also has 28 superdelegates.
TOTAL = net 112

Sorry, Sen.

Has anyone noticed the hypocrisy? Funny you all think he is all that, he is totally a professional politician. He has no loyalty-he dumps his mentor-the so called man closer than a father-as soon as it is politically necessity. He refuses to wear a flag pin, until it is politically necessary-when working class make it clear he will not have their vote. It is politics as usual, he is no different, perhaps a little worse in some ways. He has made his value & belief system extremely clear by these 2 actions alone.

I would like for you to just take a second and look at Obama without the opponents spin, without the Republican rhetoric. Just for one moment think about what he is offering America as a choice.
And I hope you will see that the America he talks about in his speeches and his rallies. Is the America I know he will work to achieve!
Can we for once believe in a candidate?

Whilst I understand that you are hurting and grieving, I cannot understand the difficulty some of you have in your understanding that Obama is winning fair and square. Clinton has not had any election stolen from her!
Obama has won in every way used to determine a successful campaign. He has won 32 contests compared to Clinton's 17. He has won more delegates (this is how the party determines who wins its primary in a proportionate allocation of delegates and even Penn mistakenly thought California was winner takes all). He has won more states, more popular votes (get real, he wasn't even on Michigan’s ballot and neither were any other candidate apart from Clinton), raised more money, and the superdelegates who overwhelming favoured Clinton at the beginning of this race and none of you were complaining then (before super Tuesday, she had more than 100 more superdelegates than Obama), are now endorsing Obama mostly because majority of voters have spoken in their constituents.
Clinton is losing because the majority in majority of the contests, chose a different candidate. She is losing fair and square.
If you can find it in your conscience to vote for McCain, instead of Obama with policies most similar to your candidate, then perhaps you have some other prejudices about Obama that you need to examine because your vote clearly has nothing to do with policies.
If so, I am asking you to please reassess this decision. Is your personal disappointment a good enough reason to allow Bush’s third term in office through McCain? To allow thousands of innocent Americans to continue to die in a war in Iraq that America had no business starting in the first place? To allow the possibility of more wars in places like Iran because of a foreign policy that is interested in war mongering and not in reasoned diplomacy? To allow American to continue being ridiculed and hated by the rest of the world? To allow flawed economic policies by someone like McCain who has confessed to not being any good in economics? To deny your children choice by the abolition of Roe v Wade?
Surely your vote is worth more than a wasted choice made out of spite and anger, or even worse by personal prejudices that have wounded, pained and divided Americans for so many years.
Please read the rest of my blog, comments appreciated, thanks.

(Granted, I had a few answering machines, but it was SO encouraging.) I spoke with an immigrant from Bosnia (I used to live there, and there is a large population of Bosnians who moved to the U.S. after their civil war--some own a few AWESOME BG restaurants) who asked about Barack's religion--I cleared that up for him. Then he spent about 10 minutes railing on McCain and Bush, and outlining every reason Bush should be impeached! What a cool guy--I almost couldn't get off the phone with him! (And boy was he peeved about Bush's comments yesterday.) I learned a lot about Bosnia too... Those are the best calls. When you learn about some other life that you have never lived...

Instead, you distort it, claiming he declared YOU & THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY were appeasers. He didn't say who he meant, and you lose credibility by twisting his statement to fit your purpose. Don't you believe an honest quotation would have had enough effect?

Bottom line is Obama does support appeasement, it is obvious-reason terrorist groups want him to be president. When you say that sure would sit down with ANY COUNTRY-without any preconditions-duh that is basically appeasement. Barack Hussien (funny how ashamed he is of his name) Obama flipped out because it is a fatal flaw he has along with his immigration stance, along with his health care ideas & so on. Anyone who knows history-KNOWS just what Bush said, appeasement was tried by Europe over & over again with Hitler & I think every rational person knows the results of that.

did you all know that calling names or saying anything disparaging to another is a violation of the Terms Of Service that YOU agreed to, in order to come here and post, create a profile, race for first, enjoy camaraderie with fellow supporters, etc?
disparaging remarks about another person's age, gender, sexual orientation, whether they have teeth or not; ANY of these things that have NOTHING to DO with whether they can function as human beings and as politicians--these things need to stay off the blog.
I of course disagree immediately with this person's assertion. I also want to remind us all that we can't continue to call names or disparage others and expect to hold accounts on this site. it's just how it is. if i have mean things to think or say about someone, i do it with a good friend in person or write them an email, i don't post it on a politician's blog. please remember that corporate media, and most of the rest of the genuine media like HuffPo and the like, are reading us too!!!

Just who is the one person from either party being tied to wanting to talk to our enemies as well as our friends? Who is at the forefront of being asked about this policy?
Anyone other than Barack? Name them please.
You've only heard others talk about it only after the debate where Barack said he would negotiate with our enemies and not just our friends.
You don't have to be a words smith or some type of scholar to understand what Bush was trying to say, and just why did he say in front of the Knesset and not wait until he got back? Because of the Jewish vote perhaps?
He took an American political stance on foreign soil and at their 60th anniversary of independence no less. A stance that no President in our short history has ever a taken.
This has as much to do with the where and when then it does the what was said. This made it more political in nature than even our primaries.
The political policies of the Bush administration has killed our standing across the globe and we are to assume that he is not once again resorting to the policy of fear to promote his party?
We are to buy into the spin of "he never mentioned names or parties" as if we are the zombies he's been dragging along with him these past eight years killing not just our standing in the world but our country altogether.
The state of our economy, the deterioration of our roads and bridges, our low standing in the world education of our children, our high cost of health care, the loss of jobs to other countries because of lower costs to the companies, the plight of our environment and global warming, the need for reform of our securities and banking lenders, the loss of American life for a useless war that has brought us nothing but debt and the sorrowful pain of families of those lives lost, and good old George gave up golf as his statement for their loss. Thank you Mr. President.
He's supposed to be a God fearing man. I'm not so sure, but then that's my opinion.

There's a fascinating article in The New Republic about the ins and outs of HRC's campaign and what went wrong, directly from her people, including some heavyweights. They were promised complete anonymity of course.

But it was a comment to the article that disturbed me. Someone posted that the Republicans have something big on Michelle and are just waiting for the right time (October surprise) to reveal it. I won't post it here on the blog for obvious reasons, but I will be giving HQ a headsup although I'm sure they are already on top of it.

Another bit of advice, I volunteered for two of the times I saw him which is a great way to get in. But also, one of the things they say is to never turn anyone away at the time of the event because once they fill the venue with the people with tickets, many times they have room to put in the extra people. Therefore, if worse comes to worse, just go and wait in line. Like the previous person said, just the camaraderie among fellow supporters is worth it.

Also, while he isn't a fiscal conservative, neither has the Republican Government for the past 8 years been. The differnence, however, is the distribution and source of his economic resources for his programs. The main source is from 1. Ending the War and 2. Closing the zillion loopholes in Congressional spending and 3. Closing loopholes in Big Corporate Spending that reward corporations overseas in accordance with NAFTA and WTO policies.
These are monies that the American people have never laid claim to anyways. He's offering to restore them to people.

What doesn't she like about Barack's economic plan? McCain's plan is to continue to spend billions in Iraq. Why is our currency value going down? Why is the cost of gas up? It's because our government is bankrupting our nation! It's time to stop squandering our children's future by laying on this enormous debt!
Barack's plan is better because first he's going to stop the hemorrhaging of our resources. Second, we've gotten completely out of balance. CEO's have done very well to say the least while the middle class has gone backwards. This is based on actual data. We need to restore a sense of balance and financial health to the middle class. Also Barack wants to provide tax breaks to companies that invest in the US. He wants to take tax breaks away from companies that ship jobs overseas. This will help create jobs in the US. He also wants to invest in our infrastructure and energy. Both these initiatives will have big payoffs in job creation. McCain's position, just keep things the same as now. We will go in the same direction. Our currency will be worth less, we will have more inflation and lower real incomes, and our infrastructure will continue to crumble. Ask your mom to have an open mind. I'm a fiscal conservative. Barack's plan is of a similar direction to Teddy Roosevelt, one of the greatest Republican presidents ever!

This actually makes me feel like the General Election may actually be easier - did you also get the feeling that Barack was 'holding back' when running against Hillary? There was so much that he could have said but did not - probably out of respect for a democratic colleague. Someone else on this blog said it - we now have "Barack Unleashed". Strap your seatbelts, we're on for a ride!!

I always think that there is nothing else Sen. Obama can do to impress me and then he goes and gives such a solid, factual and presidential thumping to McCain/Bush (as he just did). It will be such an amazing feeling to have a leader I can take pride in - even when I do not always agree with him.
Love the format of this townhall with those two folks on stage.
Funny - Sen. Obama is so oppposite to Bush in countless ways. With Sen. Obama I think - he cant do anything else to impress me even more. With Bush I think - he cant possibly do or say anything new to show what an inept "leader" he is and then he opens his mouth.
The next 8 years are going to be amazing!

What are your thoughts on the matter?
Now I don't think there is anything wrong with wearing one.. but I want everyone to think back to earlier in this campaign.
Remember what Obama said when he originally explained why he didn't wear a flag pin?
I thought that he made excellent and extremely valid points. I agreed with him 1000% on these points. Everything he said about the false patriotism, and being patriotic through deeds and not lapel pins just hit the right note for me.

He wants to take that issue off the table.
It is a distraction and as invalid as it may be, it's one issue that can be pinned to him in the upcoming primaries and during the General Election.
I also think he did it because so many veterans (I am one) wished that he would wear it -- veterans are going to be critical to this campaign and not enough emphasis is being placed on absentee votes of our troops and government officials/representatives that will be voting.
I agree with the political pundit (can't remember which one, but I think it was Rachael M.) that says to "pander" a little over a big non-issue is sometimes worth it (paraphrasing).

Thanks to the generosity of many who donated their valuable frequent flyer miles, we’ve sent 29 out-of-state volunteers to TX / OH, 32 to PA, 17 to IN / NC, 1 to WV, 1 to OR, 1 to KY, and 11 to MT.
This means ***2,300,000 MILES*** have been donated to date -- putting ***92 VOLUNTEERS*** on the ground, helping bring it home for Barack.
VOLUNTEERS: If you want to spend a week or more in SD or MT, but can't afford to pay your own way, contact me and I'll try to match you with an airline ticket. (WV, OR, and KY are too soon, and we can’t send you to Puerto Rico; it takes too many miles as PR is considered the Caribbean, not the U.S.)
DONORS: It takes 25,000 miles for a ticket. So -- who's got at least 25,000 on the same airline which they'd like to donate toward making sure Barack Obama is our next President?
Step right up -- I'm getting requests almost daily from volunteers who want to help but can't afford the airfare. Donate now, please, so we can get these people where they're most needed. No miles? Perhaps you can help pay airfare or meal/hotel expenses.
Please call me at 714-536-6104 California time. (Don't reply on the blogs; I probably won't see your response.)

I knew this was coming. Senator Obama's mother in the late 50's married an African immigrant. If she had not dared to love someone different, Senator Obama would not exist today.
The whole attack on Stanley Anne (may God rest her soul) is and will be premised around whom she chose to love and whom she chose to marry.
This is yet another attempt to awake and stoke the fear within us of tribal differences. Those who claim Senator Obama's mother was "radical" will attempt to "pretty up" their attack on love with some other lame references to her past, but at the heart of this attack (have no doubt about it) will be who Senator Obama's mother chose to love. This is raw vitriol thrown out in the hopes of starting a fire that burns out rationality and logic with ancient fierce flames of irrational fear.
Please tell your mother to either a) ignore it, b) consider and heavily discount the source (most likely a right-wing pundit), or c) discuss it -- should love be ignored simply because of a difference in tribal background? Personally, I think this particular line of attack is ancient and always has been horribly wrong.
Remind your mother of the story of Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare KNEW he was writing a tragedy as old as time. In the closing passage, the Prince summarizes the tragedy as follows:
"See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that Heaven finds means to kill your joys with love. And I for winking at your discords too, have lost a brace of kinsmen. All are punished."
Even 400 years ago, Shakespeare saw that this sort of hatred is the basis of tragedy.
Remind your mother that Senator Obama EXISTS because his mother looked past these animosities.
Also, I wouldn't worry too much about this. Senator Obama's opponents have already tried to make us VERY afraid and it has NOT worked. This is why today Senator Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee in all but official name.

"A new science of power has revealed that power is wielded most effectively when it’s used by people who are attuned to and engaged with the needs and interests of others. I apologize in advance for putting this on all the threads the next few days, but it is vital information that all those who might be calling Oregon voters need to know.
Oregon is ENTIRELY vote-by-mail, which means we have no polling places. I say this because my Mom got a call about a week ago by a very well-meaning Obama volunteer who reminded her to go to her polling place on 5/20. She corrected him so he wouldn't make the same mistake with someone else.
Some reminders to share with Oregon voters as you call over the next few days.
1. We can no longer send our ballot via U.S. Mail. The deadline for that was yesterday. It must be dropped off at a ballot drop location available at this link:
Link
2. Be sure to sign your external envelope or your vote does not count.
3. Your ballot must be received by 8pm on Tuesday May 20th in order to be counted. The boxes are closed and locked at 8pm.
4. Call the local elections office or your local Obama office with additional questions.
As I am on the phone constantly for work and have an active 2 year old at home, phone-banking isn't something I can do. My MANY THANKS to all of you who have called in the past and those who continue to call to the remaining states.
Let's bring this home, everyone!

Is anyone calling Kentucky? I just jumped over to Hillary's communist blog to see what thet yapping about. They are bragging about stats showing Hillary's leading Obama by about 30 points.
Anyways, just wanted to give a heads up! Because we are too relaxed! They are trying to beat us in the popular vote. Furthermore, We all know the Clintons have alot of political power in Washington! I need to remind you that there's super-delegates out there who have not commited yet.
PLEASE MAKE CALLS! WHY RISK IT!

I agree. However, The polls they are looking at are polls that were done at the end of April and the Beginning of May before North Carolina and Indiana. Most Pollsters stop polling he primaries.
