In light of the very important speech Obama is to give any minute, let us make March 18th, 2008,(un) Official "Obama Gear" Day! Let us wear whatever visible support of Obama that we can in our school, workplace, place of worship, home, or other environment in which we'll be today. Let us be proud of the candidate we support. Let us entertain questions with open hearts and support our answers with the facts that we know.
Let us be proud! Wear clothing, buttons, hats, pins, or other accessories in support of Obama today, March 18th, 2008.
We are with you Obama - we are the ones we've been waiting for...
Please pass along to where you think is appropriate.

If we don't want these blogs taken over this morning by all the trolls that will be out in force, we need to completely ignore the post. or maybe a single person respond with something like "ignore".
otherwise, on this day, the blogs will be an unusable nightmare for all of us who support barack.

I watched the speech and I couldn't help crying. I just felt like it was so difficult for Barack to talk about his grandmother's fear of black men. Surely, Barack is a most courageous man, and a man of character - it would have been so easy for him to trash his pastor, but he didn't... I hope all people of goodwill (and I believe most Americans are exactly that) see where Barack is coming from... and most importantly where he sees the country going... Go Barack!

Me too!
What courage! Outstanding leadership! Real World Perspectives on the most complex issue.
I have black friends, co-workers, and even pastors that were like Rev. Wright. Good people who are imperfect at times. I still love them because we can discuss why I disagree with them...(and they with me). It's not a threat. It's called a relationship.
I have also challenged successful some white friends, co-workers, and yes, white pastors on some very racially bias statements. I still love them too. You will be shocked at how much of racial divide stems from the "misinterpretation" of the Bible or other religious traditions.
Yet, we all have been challenged to create a new tradition of Hope and Openness. I need more white, Hispanic, and black friends who are willing to openly face this issue head on!
Our youth are great examples. Both of my son's best friends are Asian (one is Japanese & Finnish; the other is Chinese). My daughter has more white friends than black. Their generation is choosing "friends" based on values and character that they share; not color.

Like Tasha,
I am black and my partner is white. We have been together for 16 years. Through this time we have had to confront racial issues. His family has always treated me with respect, open their homes to me, and made it clear they have no problems with African Americans. My family, on the other hand is totally different. Only my father has met him forming a somewhat favorable opinion of him. My mom talked to him on the phone a few times in 16 years, but makes it clear she has no reason to meet him in person. In order to understand her point, you must have been raised in the time which she grew up. A black and white couple in her time was pretty much a sentence of death. This was her fear for me even in the 90's. It's sad the older generations were fed fear instead of knowledge. This is our time to step up and let all know, we can make a difference by bridging the racial gaps. If I can understand both sides, after having to perform this balancing act for 16 years, then I'm certain all of America can start to see this issue through a two way mirror also. YES! WE! CAN!

Tears always roll down my face as President H. Barack Obama speaks.
The mountains will move with joy
The rivers will flow in harmony
The sky will be its bluest
The winds will wisper peace
The sun will be warm and gentle
The moon will smile
The stars will dance
The clouds will be a soft pillow
When "God's people is just people
Not broken down or divided by race
The greatest heart felt joy will be the glow on our children's faces!
As he said:you could nit pick and accept racism
AS he said:you could denounce and reject racism
And find yourself in a happy place
President Barack H.Obama is not:::JudaS nor Peter
He is Brillant,Honest,Decent man with integrity, that the American People will ever have to stand up for them and make their lives for the better.
When we reject each other because of race we are rejecting "GOD".the father who created us.
You see racism is ungratefullness to "GOD," for giving us life.Teach ourselves and the children of the world. It all begins with :Genesis Ends:Revelation
Isn't it strange we are talking race in Holy Week, when Jesus suffers, falls, dies on the "CROSS"

Today as I listen to Senator Obama's speech, I, too was moved to tears. God has blessed America with such a man as this at such a time as this. I pray for my country. As a black american I look forward to the oneness that we as a people need. The Book of Revelation speaks of people of all nations that will be in Heaven. The Lord wants us to live peacefully together here on earth. There are many issues that Senator Obama and his campaign is working toward for the good of all people regardless of race, creed or color. I do not beleive that there is no one that could have address this matter with such dignity. I truly beleive that he has the nation at heart. I support him with my effort and with what finances I can give. The force that is against him is not greater than the force that is within him. God Bless America.

Hey everyone. Right now, I am still absolutely amazed at this speech today and the truth behind it.
Blacks and whites, and those in between....we all know what it's like to be teased at school, to be broke (especially after putting gas in the car), the pain when our marriages fail, when our jobs are cut....we all know how these things feel.
I remember being called an "oreo" in school because achievement was my personal goal. I remember "hoping" that someone black in my school didn't find out that I actually liked rock music and some country music (hey folks, I grew up in Texas, come on!!) Now that I have escaped the bondage of the "group think" of my high school years, I boldy wear my Bruce Springsteen shirt that I got at his concert last fall and have no hestitation in wearing it even in the "hood".
I know what it is like to be denied a promotion by my supervisor (who was black and a woman) and I also know what it's like to not get a job offer by a would-be supervisor (who was black and also a woman). Could I have sued these folks under the premise of racial or gender discrimination?
Help and hurt come in all colors....and thankfully hope does too.

You haven't lived until you are a young black woman who goes to see Bruce Springsteen in Washington, D.C. by yourself and sit in the nosebleeds in the Verizon Center with a $7.00 Bud Light, doing the "Carlton" to the Springsteen song "Dancing in the Dark"....that was one of the best moments of my life!!!!! :)

I just watched Barack's speech on race. I am stunned. For the first time, a major American political figure has joined whites, blacks, Hispanics and Asians together in the battle against corporate power and economic policy for the wealthy. That is the story of this speech. It goes beyond Rev. Wright, beyond Obama's own personal story, and addresses the common enemy we ALL face: institutionalized greed. John Edwards, as you listening? We just witnessed a major change in racial discourse in this country, and it is rooted in the need for basic economic fairness for all races, geners and classes. I feel sorry for anyone who cannot see the tremendous implications of this speech.

I have to admit I am worried about the speech. We ordered the DVD from his minister and watched them at a group meeting. Yes some is taken out of context but the overall video is quite disturbing. We have a large block of voters in Alabama for Senator Obama but this video problem really concerns a lot of us. I know it is not his total responsibility but how can you separate the man from someone he has so closely been associated with for over 20 years. Our real concern is that we should not worry about Senator Clinton's attack on Senator Obama we should worry about the religious right and the conservative republicans who will not stop with this issue. I encourage everyone to watch the full videos and hope the speech really explains a lot.
Thanks

Wasn't it great! I espeically like the part where he says he not only loves his "white" grandmother and wouldn't dream of separating himself from her. Yet he separates himself from the negative and incendiary comments she would make about black men. I am an A-A but I would never ask him to disown his grandmother because her racists comments offends. But I quess you have be a pretty decent person to do something like this.
What do you want to bet? You are from Alabama; I have many friends from there--white friends--and they talk all the time about grand parents, pastors, teachers, judges, etc., that have said much worse things about black people but their children, parishoners and or relatives have not dismissed them.
Admit it! The real reason why you don't want to talk about race is because you are afraid it may mean you have to look at your self!!!
This was the best speech you or anyone of our day have ever heard and there is nothing you can say to change that! YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE SPEECH IT WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY. Now if perchance you are a Barack supporter, forgive me for being so hard. But Frankly I don't think you truly are. The caricature of Obama being a representation of his church or a reflection of Reverand Wright is a non-starter. People are individuals. If the negativities of Obama are inextricably linked to Rev. Wright then so are his successes: Columbia University, Harvard University, State Representative, U.S. Senator, a viable candidate for the President of the U.S. Then, ask yourself "Does it make sense to make this spurious connection?"
Another point, should all Catholics disavow themselves from the Church in light of the pederast scandals of the early part of this century? Or any member to any church that has had similar experiences, especially if that church has given them spiritual fulfullment? How about family or friends you've known your whole life who have had affairs, bad business decisions, or just having opinions that are about off-colored? Do you disavow them? We need termperment more than we need gut reaction - otherwise you get your own personal Iraq.
Let's be reasonable, and listen to the words of Barack's speech - he's trying harder than anyone to put this in perspective and change things. Help him!
Let's put him in the White House and change this country (not just policies either).

Mike,
Please listen (or read) to his speech from today:
Link
"And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright. As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me. He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions - the good and the bad - of the community that he has served diligently for so many years.
I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community.
I CAN NO MORE DISOWN HIM THAN I CAN MY WHITE GRANDMOTHER (emphasis added by me) - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.
These people are a part of me. And they are a part of America, this country that I love."

My father seems a lot like Mr. Wright...he been my father for over 50 years...and I know that he is Mr. Wrong...his views have allowed me to understand that we can be better than him and people like him, and rise above it all...I have, many others have and so has Barack...I love my father but, he does not define me...I have 4 sister that feel the way....
American history cannot be erased, but it does not have to be our future...WE NEED TO CHANGE NOW... God has sent Barack Obama...this is our opportunity to do what is right...it is our time to stand by him...if we turn on one another...we all lose...

If you are then take these words and let them help you make up your own mind and separate yourself from that group you speak of.

This is what's so sad about entrenched "majority privilege" - it focuses on its fears and not its hopes; it measures its world by its own narrow standards and it views life from only its own perspective and reason.
For the one-millionth time: we are not electing Rev Wright we are electing President Obama. If you really are trying to arrive at truth get a DVD of this awesome speech by Senator Obama and play it to your group. Remind yourself and your friends of each others flaws and how your flaws nor your past should define who you ARE.
If, however, you truly wish to believe the worse then stop hiding behind Rev. Wright and simply declare yourself unready for a true and candid discourse on race, racism and the pain it has caused on all sides.
On the other hand, if you want CHANGE, let us all go from here and elect the President who represents that change. It must be very tempting to accept the status quo if one has the "right status" especially racial status. But if you do, change will never come.
If ever a speech defined who a man was this speech defined Barack Obama. Because I am Black, I fully understand the Wright rhetoric and I am neither phased, "disturbed" nor confused. I have heard much worse. In fact, by your standards, I could never be President because my hurt and my anger caused me to say some pretty strong words in defense of my race and my rights. I am a Viet Nam veteran. This is America. I have freedom of speech. My speech reflects MY experience not yours. Whether you have the grace and mercy to believe it or not, there is more good about Jeremiah Wright than bad. In the Black community, he is judged by an entirely different standard than in the White. Yet, most Blacks do not ascribe to his level of angry rhetoric.
This is a good time for Whites to learn of another culture and expand their understanding of how others feel and think for a change. I am ready for the reconciliation that Senator Barack Obama represents. Are you?

The media has cast the first stone. Those without sin sit in judgement of Barack Obama. Those without sin have lit the fire of race relations in this country using the words of one man to bring down the grace of another. The words of Jeremiah Wright have a stinging edge to their tone, they are fiery and contemptuous, and they fall loosely off of the tongue with the venom of a cobra and the accuracy of a bow and arrow. They are hurtful and evoke the type of response that silo’s our differences into a boiling pot of high pitched fervor that serve to snag at the loose limbs of race relations until flesh is torn from bone and only blood remains.
These are the words of Jeremiah Wright, and as the Senator from Illinois suggest, words matter. In that most eloquent statement do we also make the assessment that it matters who is saying the words. If words matter, and we all agree they do, who chooses which words unite and which words divide. If words matter it would serve to reason that it also matters where the words are being derived from. If it matters where the words are derived from does it also matter who spoke the words. Where did the words come from to form the rhetoric that now lies before us.
If the words were written on a tablet by the hand of Barack Obama then neatly passed on to Pastor Jeremiah Wright then by all means let no stone go unturned. However, if the words being spued on every national radio and television news cast in the country were formed, written, edited and spoken out of the heart, soul, and mind of Jeremiah Wright then why are we condemning Barack Obama.
Let’s caution ourselves on whom we choose to love and let into our hearts, should the spotlight find itself on the hearts, souls and minds of those we hold dear, will we then too be condemned for words they’ve spoken whether they be our own words or not.
If guilt by association allows the fall of a man, than let us all gather stones and whom should we aim at today?

I think this is a great idea, but I think we should do it tomorrow. At the time this speech was given, many people were already at work.
I'm currently stuck in my classroom wishing that I had just a few minutes to make phone calls. HOWEVER, we go on Spring Break next week, so I will be able to make a ton of calls then. We're off until April 7th. Since I can't help make phone calls right now, I hope that you all will make a donation to help me honor service men and woman, reach my goal, and add to the momentum of "our" campaign.
Last Tuesday, I was sitting in my classroom wishing I could make some calls to Mississippi. Since that was not possible, I just posted my fundraising page to the different blogs. Additionally, I finally e-mailed cnn.com because our candidate's name was not listed in the "hot topics" header when clicking on politics--I noticed this about a week ago. Everyday, I'd go to the site hoping they'd put his name there as it should have been all along. I'll have you all know, Barack Obama is now a "hot topic" header. That just goes to show that we can all do something to further this movement, even when we're in a place that may not seem favorable to our desires at the time.

If guilt by association allows the fall of a man, than let us all gather stones and whom should we aim at today? Do we pick apart the associates of Governor Spitzer and ask whether or not they feel prostitution should be legalized? Do we call up President Bush and ask him to explain himself as it relates to Scooter Libby? Do we call Monica Lewinsky and ask that she give her thoughts on foreign policy, after all look who she associated with. If this is the stance we take with the Senator from Illinois than let’s not travel lightly, if we must stone one, we must continue where we’ve left off.
Barack is being asked to use words to heal the nation for remarks he never made. Barack is being asked to take ownership and accountability for the thoughts formed out of someone else’s head. Barack is being asked to step down from a Presidential race because his Pastor’s views do not mirror the message he has taken across this nation. Barack is being asked to lie down at the feet of the American People and take the first stone without benefit of shelter.
Without benefit of shelter he addresses the remarks of another man, without benefit of shelter he faces the nation, without benefit of shelter and no disparaging scandals to tar his good name, he lays at the feet of the American people, a man, a husband, a father, a Senator, and as he lays wounded and defeated by the actions of another I ask you the American People, what sin did he commit?
There is no suggestion of Barack Obama being perfect, that can never be so, but in this time, in this season, I ask, who would cast the first stone?

Senator Barack Hussein Obama has once again taken the LEADERSHIP role by beginning the conversation of this rather vexing race issue that has crippled American communities for decades. I thank God that I am alive to witness this great moment in American history where Senator Obama, as an African American, has courageously and without prejudice decided to take the conversation to the American people.

We must stand unified in our support of Obama, that is how we will win - not by disparaging comments, not by becoming hostile toward party officials, not by threatening to vote outside the party, but by making it clear - that we will support Obama and no one else - then the super-delegates will understand what they are risking if they overturn the pledged delegates.
This is more than a movement of hope, despite the Naysayer's allegations.
This is a movement of understanding, an understanding that a better America, the America of our dreams, can only be achieved through the application of ethical and moral conduct, through the acceptance of our diversity and a willingness to use that diversity for the improvement of us all.
But, it is also about the Democratic party.
A party which will inherit a new generation of voters that possess a passion, a drive and a belief in the future, that it has long been lacking.
We must stand vigilant.
We must stand together.
Yes We Can! and We Will!

Barack is going to be giving a speech today on race. It will probably be the most important speech he's made to date. It will also probably make or break his candidacy as it stands today. It's time for America to talk about the elephant that's still standing in the room and in the way of real unity in America.
I can look at Rev. Wright and understand where he is coming from although I am Caucasion. I know hate speech when I hear it and his homilies have been full of it...at the very least the portions which have been replayed for the public over the past couple of days or weeks. I'm sure he also preaches about Jesus and how to live your daily life walking closer to Him but that won't make the news unfortunately.
I also believe that maybe in order for the United States to begin real healing, spiritual healing of our own body, that it's important to take a look at why Rev. Wright preaches the way that he does. He was born in Philadelphia, I'm guessing sometime in the 1930's. Now, the rest of America may think we've come a long way but in all fairness, have the African Americans suddenly had their memories cleansed of all the hate crimes they experienced, first hand, during the period that the Reverend would have been growing up in America? Is this much different than the Jews having suffered through the Holocaust? They may not have been herded into concentration camps but they lived the same kind of hatred, day in and day out, during that period of our history none the less. The differences between the two atrocities are many but one thing that the Jews could do that the African Americans can't do, was focus their anger on one man, Hitler. The African American senior citizens who lived that hell before the Civil Rights Movement brought about change are still living with the anger and resentment that you see in Rev. Wright. It didn't just disappear because they weren't being beaten on a daily basis by groups of whites if they dared to speak to a white woman or use the same toilet/services, or prevented from living their American Dream the way this country promised when we freed the slaves in the first place.
I am posting the rest in comment #2

Part 2
Slavery is a national sin that we would all like to forget. My own ancestors were some of the worst slave traders/owners during the Roman Empire and look how that turned out for them. Their debauched lifestyle brought down one of the greatest empires in history. The thought of one man owning another is beyond comprehension to most of us but in this country, it happened and we would like the memory of it to go away and hopefully it will one day, but for people like Rev. Wright it's a past he's acutely aware of and lived through, maybe not slavery directly but the after effects of it. We didn't change our ways overnight and we need, as a nation, to own what was done when slavery existed in this country, so that we can really heal and "Love thy neighbor as thyself". All of us.
What I have hoped for in Barack Obama was a beginning of real healing in America for all of us. In him both the black and white race come to rest. I, for one, believe that the best of both races are contained within him and have enormous hope for our future in electing him president. There is no higher office or honor than for a man or woman to lead their country to peace and prosperity. Maybe in electing him president we can finally say that there will be peace, prosperity and the pursuit of happiness available to ALL of our citizens, regardless of color, gender or ethnicity. It's the highest goal of our constitution but we still haven't achieved it across the board and we'd be lying to ourselves if we actually believe it's already been accomplished today.

I have learned that no worthwhile goal is attained without adversity -- Senator Clinton has thrown the "kitchen sink" (with all appliances and plumbing) at Senator Obama and nothing has stuck to this point. Keep the eyes on the goal and press on until we witness Senator Obama takes the oath of office as President of the United States of America. Godspeed and courage.

If we embrace and love these kinds of people we do several things;
1. we take away their power.
2. we rise above them
3. we show how wrong they are by not responding
or becoming who they say we all are.
4. may possibly be able to win them over.
I love our diversity here. I would never live in a community that is lopsided. So we must extend our love to Pat and others just like him.

Couple of Comments:
First, this speech reinforces that this is the chance of a lifetime to elect such a wonderful person to the Presidency!
Second, it was an amazing speech. The only speeches since the 70s that compare are all by him. This might possibly be his best speech.
Third: the only people who still won't vote for him due to Wright are people who would not vote for him anyway and they represent a distinct minority among democrats and among the electorate as a whole.
Finally, Gallup/USA poll states that 55% of voters will think that it it unfair if Barack wins the pledged delegate contest and yet superdelegates overturn this. The respondents in the poll said that they would consider it unfair.
Moreover, Andrea Mitchell stated that she believed this as well.

Has anyone tried to make it public to the Press(besides Barack's website) about Hillary directly giving the o.k. for contractor's in Iraq. She blatently denied she knew anything about it. As per on the website, it shows exactly where and when she approved these contractor's. She is stating out right in her speaches that she is the only one to handle our foreign policy problems.
Does anyone have an idea of how we can make the press stress incorrect info (that is important for the voters to know)? Hillary keep stressing how she has the foreign policy over Barack due to her experience. The press is not stressing (over and over again like with Barack) how her trip to Bosnia was only for a USO show, how she did not help with the bill for the children, how all her foreign experience is to only have tea while Bill dealt with the foreign policy. No one is making the press totally vett she did Nothing put play first lady for eight years. Nobody stops her and questions her when she talks about her 36 years. 36 years of what? The only experience she has is the Senate, whereas Barack has is State Senate.

To answer your question C Jeff from Marietta, GA, I offer you this observation.
I think we all recognize that HRC's camp strives to divide us and perhaps we would worry about if we believed that she might actually win by doing it. Being armed with the knowledge that she wants to divide us, in itself motivates us to circle the wagons and become a more unified campaign. So you see, divisiveness is a losing proposition from the start.
We are united in this cause, this movement, this campaign and hopefully one day in this country.
HRC is not trying to only divide us, she is trying to kill a vision that was founded with the writing of the preamble to the constitution and carried forward by men like JFK, RFK, MLK and now Barack H Obama.

Yes I have been very concerned about all of the divisiveness that has come from Lady Hillary's campaign. It is becoming more and more evident everyday that she does not care in the least what she is doing to our party.
If she honestly believes that she can win by these ugly, hateful, tactics, and then unify the party and the country, then she is just showing that she has no concept about how sick and tired people are in this country of the Clinton-Bush-Carl Rove type of slash and burn, divide and conquer, old boy politics.
I have read how she has always believed that she was put on this earth to make history as the first woman president, {George Bush was also brought up with these misguided beliefs}, and how in her power hungry beliefs that it is her inherit right to the job, that she will stop at nothing to achieve that goal. I have been getting angrier with every passing day with her campaign's hateful tactics to bring this honorable man down. Barak Obama has more integrity in his little finger than she has in her whole body, and she knows this and can not stand that fact.
We keep hearing people say that Hillary needs to show more of the real her. Well we are seeing the real Hillary everyday on the campaign trail. She is not the warm, compassionate, caring woman that her campaign wants us to believe. If she was then she would not have Harold Ickes in control of her campaign. Everyone needs to do some reading on Hillary and Bill and their long time connection to this man. He is nothing but the Democrat's version of Carl Rove. If we are going to have a different type of President and a new hope for this country than voting for someone who has a man like him running their campaign is not someone we want running our country because there will be no hope for anything but more of the same in Washington, and us, the little people, who are the backbone of this country will keep losing.
Please do some reading about the real Hillary and who she really is and you will see a resemblance to George Bush and his destructive, divisive type of politics that will forever keep our country mired in the mud.

Also if anyone researches the "New World Order" that the Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton believe in we have to understand that "We are who we have been waiting for" and our time to stop this has to be Now. We need to do this now.

Hi.
BARACK IS WINNING. PLEASE, LET'S SAY A PRAYER BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIS SPEECH.
As true supporters of the Barack Obama campaign, one of our duties is to set the facts straight about Barack so that others will know the truth about him. I'm sure that is what you also do, when given the opportunity, about anything that is important to you.
Please, follow the links included here documentation of some of these facts. If you value the truth as Barack does, please spread this information via email, blog, or any other means, to everyone you know...
GO HERE NOW:

ALSO, in case you have more time to spare...
Here is the text of Barack's message concerning controversial statements by his former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright:

And here are some "billarious" cartoons for your weekend entertainment:

FINALLY... PLEASE, TAKE A MOMENT TO SAY A PRAYER OR A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO THE OBAMA FAMILY ON THIS VERY IMPORTANT DAY WHEN WE AWAIT HIS SPEECH ON RACE, RELIGION. YOU CAN DO IT HERE:

Say a prayer???? Yeah, that's going to help.
Doesn't this current problem (bad preacher) have religion at its apex?
We need people to drop these silly superstitions and actually do some good, rather that just asking a fictional being to do the good for us.

Whereas, trying to alienate the many religiously believing members of this movement is....productive in your mind?
I'm a diest, and don't believe my creator answers prayers, but I also know that many people find that prayer energizes them.
If someone wants to take a moment to make that prayer, and gain that energy, how, exactly, is that a waste?
You could have dialed a phone in the time you took out to attack someone. Is attacking people what energizes you?
I'll take them praying folks over that, thanks, even if I don't share their beliefs.

Alienation was not my intention. Alienation is the goal of the religious. For eight years we secularists have been alienated by the current administration. The constitution establishes the separation of church and state. For once, I'd like to see the candidates (and the electorate) respect that rule, and keep religious references out of politics completely.
The intent of my comment (and I'll admit I was too brash) was to call attention to the divisiveness inherent in religion, and hope that we can get behind a candidate because he believes in the same policies, not because he happens to believe in the same fairy tale.

There's a saying "don't throw the baby out with the bath water." I have faith in God and the power of prayer (you do not I guess) and so I am acting on my faith by praying for Barack. You perhaps do not have that faith, O.K. then. One distinction I've learned over the years that's been helpful to me is to separate man's mistakes from God's will. People will never be perfect, and some people's errors scream louder than others . . . but we all make errors (sins). O.K. I'll climb down from the pulpit.

Good grief! Why are we making religion a focal point when we post? We don't need to attack one another on this subject. Although I was raised a catholic, my belief for many years has been agnostic, meaning I practice kindness from within. Religions are like ONE song, only played by different instruments. Although I believe we should respect all religions and not hold one superior to the other, I don't believe a community blog is the place to speak of "God" or the act of praying. We all share the same thing on this blog, and that is the belief in Barack Obama. It would be nice if we could separate the two and keep our religious beliefs to ourselves. Sorry if I've offended anyone.

Hey guys, you know something that has been severely overlooked in all this meaningless stuff about O's pastor, Is that O is a man with great character, judgement and the ability to unite, not to mention how inspiring he is, and "yes" this garbage about his pastor is subject to your own opinion on how you view it.
But the fact remains he is not racist nor does he act upon his pastors views, and that is evident on how he carries himself.
I am a 39 w/m and had the great honor to meet O in Cleveland at the rally i volunteered at, he put his hand on my shoulder and we talked for a minute, he looked right into my eyes and i looked in his, and i will tell you, i have never felt connected to a polotician like i did there. my 17 yr. old daughter had tears in her eyes when they shaked hands. My point about all this is that O comes from a diverse family, he knows struggles, he knows life on the streets, he had an opurtunity to make big money out of college, he had a chance to take lobbiest money, he is a new type of polotician, he is real. and if any of you are still on the fence about this, one simple question you can ask yourself, can you say any of the above about any other canidate?

Also I disagree that we have gotten to far off message – this is really baracks strongest point and people need to be reminded why they fell in love him in the first place – HC can not compete with him when it comes to bringing people together and bringing out the best in us, she brings out the worse. I know that were going to suffer some in PA behind all this mess but this was going to happen sooner or ladder anyway – I think it happened at the perfect time. Now HC can’t catch us and we have weeks until the next primary so don’t get bent out of shape folks, its going to be alright

Hi, I think this is not completely accurate. according to the Democratic Convention Watch
Link
she gained these:
3-7-08 - Added DNC Aleita Huguenin (CA) for Clinton
3-8-08 - Added DNC Mary Lou Winters (LA) for Clinton
3-10-08 - Added DNC Roberto Ramirez (NY) for Clinton
But she lost more than she gained, so that explains her net loss (and that's all that matters, in some sense, of course).
The little graph on the left of the website is very uplifting.

If you read Obama's books, you can see that the way he thinks has never changed. Also you will see that he has been a bridge builder and an optimist from his early days in Chicago.
What's stopping him from winning this nomination among democrats, who supposedly use their brains more than the republicans? Ignorance.
If Obama can enlighten his audience on the ignorance that is fueling dislike for his candidacy among 50% of the democratic electorate, he will get a majority of voters behind him and he has a lot of time to educate the wider audience of American voters.

yes we can guys. they're slamming all of us and the Sen. on the pol. blogs. i know it's good to ignore negativity, but we also gotta throw back some good stuff, some support, to balance it out. so if it's done with good intentions and not reactionary, we should get out the word that we still got the Senator's back. i'm just tired of reading silliness--spread some of the brilliance i see here around! people need it.

It's like being African-American in the early 1950's. It's time for every one of us to remember what worked then, and what we must do now.
Even if we're white, we're now black by association, and apparently that is now a 4-letter word.

I love him for not being a hypocrite, to deny the racial and class problems that exist in America. He is a guy that you can trust to treat each group with sensitivity and fairness and address the problems that lead to racial and class tensions.

This speech will be historic…and the fact that Senator Obama has made the decision to deliver it shows his willingness to LEAD this country, even on the most open-wound, divisive issues. Would it be easier to let the uproar over Rev. Wright die down on its own? Of course. Is that how a courageous and veritable leader handles adversity? Of course not. Kudos to Senator Obama.

He always exceeds my expectations when i get anxious about a primary or debate.
I'm expecting him to re-define his unifying message on race and place the reverend's comments in perspective then introduce the audience to the authentic man of integrety that he is.
Maybe even move the message to those that are suffering in this economy..

I've written numerous emails to MSNBC and NBC about Pat Buchanan. Didn't know what else to do, so just emailed this to Keith Olbermann, my hero:
Keith - All Obama supporters love you, of course. I am writing in particular to ask you to please have your news folks remove Pat Buchanan from all MSNBC shows. He is anachronistic, divisive, and blatantly racist, prejudiced and bigoted. I forgive him on a personal level, but he is allowing all of the rest of you to be tainted by his views. People are asking if everyone on MSNBC is like him, but just not showing it. Please disassociate yourselves from him by removing him from your channel. You will be doing the rest of the country a favor. As all of our parents used to say, "If you can't say anything nice about a person, don't say anything at all." He needs to not say anything at all. I am embarassed that he claims to be an Irish Catholic, as I am, and I can assure you he has forgotten the main message in the Catholic faith: Love one another. Thank you.

I agree. He is so mired in the past and division that he can't recognize the overarching essense of Obama's speech (to recognize and understand the reasons for the racial divide and to take steps to heal and unite in ways that we haven't tried before). Instead, Pat just knitpicks Obama's speech for things he thought might be unanswered and try to make political spin out of it.
I see clearly now that Pat is incapable of being an objective commentator.

I so totally agree. Pat Buchanan espouses some of the most "ignorant" and divisive views on TV (an Scarborough is just as closed-minded). I have never heard him sincerely address the fact that race IS a valid issue, black people are not being overly-sensitive, and all white Americans should not also not be painted as identical.
He has no tolerance for different views, experiences, or values. We don't all have the same histories or live in the same "America". White Plains NY has nothing in common with the inner city, the inner city has nothing in common with the Appalacian townships, and the hills of Appalacia have nothing in common with the plains of Oklahoma. Yet, we are all people who want something better - and all of our views are important to the growth of this country.
Buchanan represents the stifling, oppressive, narrow-minded, short-sighted, and insensitive views of the "ruling class" in this country that refuses to accept that their experiences are not the only legitimate ones.

What to do after the speech, from the Daily Kos:
What to do AFTER the speech; points from the Daily Kos, including
1. Send an email to everyone in your address book and tell them that you saw/read/listened to the speech (whatever is correct) and that it is wonderful (as long as you believe it was so) and that they should watch it on their own WITHOUT listening to the spin artists out there.
2. When you get hold of the Youtube piece do the same.
3. Step away from (this group) and go to the comment and message boards on the national, local papers online and tell them that you liked the speech, are proud of Obama and that together -- one million strong -- we are going to change this country. Send out an Letter to the Editor as well but first act online.
4. donate to Obama after the speech.
and my own 5th point. Write a glowing letter of praise to the DNC OR any uncommitted superdelegates. It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes and is important to "strike while the iron is hot.

I think if we encourage any kind of coverage on McCain's supporter, it can come back in our face.
I would rather take him on with war and economy issues.

I, for one, am glad for this opportunity to discuss race. I think it would be difficult to introduce the conversation without a context like the one which has precipitated todays speech. There are complaints (I just heard on msnbc) that this subject has not been introduced in debates. But, that might have been perceived as bringing race into the campaign. They didn't introduce women's rights either...that would have made gender a focal point of the race. So, out of crisis there truly springs an opportunity, and if ANYONE can do it with meaning and grace and inspiration, it is our Barack Obama. I love him so much and everything he represents. Big hugs to him and his family and to all of you out there in blog land.

2. Any US President can have no doubt that our country, even with all its imperfections, is still the beacon of liberty and equality.

BTW, I too can't fathom the anger of those who have lived through ages of slavery and discrimination ... in fact I have been rather lucky in pursuing the American dream.

Excuse me, generation after generation.... It was not possible in 60s to become a leader, or t run for a presidency. This is the first generation that it is becoming possible.
They are attacking Obama just because he is half black.
America is the most racist country from all developed countries!
I was raised in Europe, and this non-sense about his pastor would not work over there.
It is just a pity, that so many Americans cannot see the greatness which Obama can offer...

It is indeed time to open the book on race, racism, segregation, discrimination, etc. We believe Senator Obama will lead the dialogue for healing in America and for that we are truly grateful.

If we hold on to our support for and belief in the tenets of this campaign/movement, we just might bring advances in human relations never before experienced in world history. Maybe we can reduce corporate and nationalistic pretexts for war as a means to define why and how we will control natural resources like oil, water rights; Maybe we can reduce the gaming of, the use of, racial hatred and class divisions for achieving political gain in contests among political opponents. These possibilities, and others, might only be achieved by a US President, perhaps a US President in Barack Obama. It is time to end these initial thoughts and to begin to ponder Barack's speech today for many more hours. I hope our campaign/movement will come up with many more forums to continue this dialogue on race and politics Barack has again ignited. Large portions of his speech should be turned into a television "commercial" not solely to boost BO's electoral prospects, but to continue this dialogue. I am hoping that the other campaigns end their benign silence on the issues of race and politics, presumably because their silence brings them more votes and join Barack and our campaign/movement to explore healing the racial divide and unifying the country. I am now more convinced than ever before that Barack Obama potentially as our President and with our support can change our country and our world.

I really hope and pray that Barack brings this nation back to it's fundemental ideals. We are one nation divided by race and class. I was so hoping that America would be able to see through Barack the potential of the black race, if given the oppurunity. Barack could have been white-washed, and cared nothing about his community. His character is an example of the America I always knew this country could be. The unfortunate of us in the black community have always felt left out of America's Progress. I think that Rev. Wright's disrespectful racist comments is a mirror image of how racist white america feels about blacks. They just say it to their associates instead of in the pulpit.
I think that nothing Rev. Wright said, could compare to our current Presidents actions concerning Katrina. To our current Presidents actions concerning 9/11 and the lives of our soldiers.

The media - except for World Net Daily- has also suspiciously refused to report on Hillary’s last FEC report regarding her 2000 Senate campaign, filed in January 30, 2006. In a secret settlement of an FEC complaint by the plaintiff in Paul v Clinton, Peter Paul, the FEC fined Hillary’s campaign $35,000 for hiding more than $720,000 in donations from Paul, and it required Hillary’s campaign to file a 4th amended FEC report.
In that report Hillary and her campaign again hid Paul’s $1.2 million contribution to her campaign and falsely attributed $250,000 as being donated by Paul’s partner, Spider Man creator Stan Lee, who swore in a video taped deposition he never gave Hillary or her campaign any money.
Lee did testify to trading $100,000 checks with Paul to make it appear he gave $100,000 to Hillary’s campaign (admission of a felony) but none of that has been reported by the “overly critical” media!
Where is the outrage from Obama that the press is engaging in a double standard relating to his possible role in the Rezko trial and his refunding the $85,000 contributed to his campaign by Rezko- which Obama has always admitted taking. The media makes no mention of Hillary’s role as a witness in Bill’s fraud trial for defrauding Hillary’s largest donor- and Hillary’s refusal to refund the $1.2 million she illegally received from Paul, which she has denied taking from Paul ever since the Washington Post asked her about Paul and his felony convictions from the 1970’s before her first Senate election in 2000?
