SUCCESS IN PERFECTION: Congratulations to Senator Obama; congratulations to us, the Obama Campaign Family. What a day! The sweetest part is that there's more to come. It's good to be alive at this wonderful time.

Senator Obama's speech in Des Moines, IOWA, tonight was perfect. Acknowledgement and love to Senator Kennedy, a great American. Acknowledgement, respect, and a noble reaching out to Senator Clinton.

The rest of the speech was pure perfection. He outlined clearly what he means by CHANGE. As Speaker Gingrich suggested his "Dear Senator Obama..." article in Newsweek of May 19 (page 28), it's good for Senator Obama to show a list of what he means by "change". The danger, Speaker Gingrich further wrote, is that the Republicans can legislate the listed changes; President Bush can sign the legislation into law, and thereby steal Senator Obama’s fire.

But, in this case, no such luck! The reality is that the items on Senator’s Obama’s Change List are so entirely beyond the ability of the Republicans that they can't even dream of touching any of those items. Such is the power of this Movement for Change.

In other words, though we still have a great deal of work to do, the die is cast. Democrats, up and down the ticket, will win by a landslide in November. I said it before and I say it again, Senator McCain will be lucky to win two States.

Respected pundits analyzing the campaigns this year are expecting a reasonably close contest; they are basing such expectations on the old parameters. And that is why they will be very much in error. The old parameters are no longer valid. America and the world have changed.

As the RFD in Harrisburg once said: "We need to squeeze every drop of energy out of these volunteers and then send them out for another shift!"

We worked our volunteers hard. And they loved it. I'm just so proud of everyone on this campaign.

And I just teared up a bit, so if there are any typing errors, blame the tears.

I think the 1.4M+ is total donors from the beginning of the campaign. I believe I read 200k new donors for April. Didn't the campaign have 1.5M donors by May 6th and we hait that target.

Great speech, as was the Iowa J.J. dinner speech.. search that on youtube, that was last speech of night around midnight.. with noone able to leave(even candidates).. it is said HRC people were picking up Obama stuff then...

Watch David Gergen on CNN talk the truth about how some in this primary are exploiting the racism of people in Appalachia.... He said, Hillary Clinton (realizing that people were voting against Obama because of race) should have done the right thing and said "If you are voting against his race, I don't want your vote. Keep your vote"

I am paraphrasing, but it was something very close and very awesome to that.

Good for him. They all whine about the race issue, he is the first pundit to tell it like it is.

And now that the Oregon #'s are coming in, so nice to see how many of those white women/men and no college people voted for Barack up north.

I remember back in November or December during one of the very early debates when the field was really crowded, only John Edwards was brave enough to say that he was rejecting the vote of anyone who was not voting for Barack for racial reasons..... That was really courageous of him. He is very genuine.

My respect for David has gone up 110%. When he spoke about the racism that has reared its ugly head in this election in a way that has not been seen in years, he spoke with some deep pain. Me being an AA Female and one who look at and listen to everything, I can tell you he was in deep distress. Hillary and Bill has exploited the racism in this country for their own advantage, and I have no respect left for that couple.

I have been to two lectures given by David Gergen at Roger Williams University here in Rhode Island. He is a very impressive and knowledgeable man with great insight into the political process. He is also very fair minded in his assessment of situations. I trust his judgement.

David Gergen has always been my favorite commentator. He is intelligent, experienced, insightful and fair. Comes across as genuine, no axes to grind. Has worked for Dem. and Rep. administrations, and a great educator. The best on cable tv hands down re American politics.

I have admired David Gergen since he was a regular on McNeill Lehrer, Friday nights with Mark Shields. He is great. The Clintons have always played the race card. I have been one of those who have consistently called for a nice tone when speaking of Clinton, but it is getting difficult. I wish I had confidence that she will take the high road, but I don't see any evidence. Please write the DNC and protest any settling of Florida/Michigan in Clinton's favor. I just shot off a letter.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (Reuters) - A senior adviser to Republican presidential candidate John McCain said on Tuesday that he was stepping down to keep a commitment he made not to campaign against Democrat Barack Obama.

Mark McKinnon, who was in charge of the McCain campaign's advertising message, said he was still backing the Arizona senator, but that he was simply moving from active campaign participant to cheerleader.

"I'll still be around occasionally in my lucky hat," said McKinnon, who often wears a distinctive hat.

McKinnon, who was a key aide in President George W. Bush's two election victories, has expressed admiration for Obama and pledged not to campaign against the Democratic front-runner if he became the party's presidential nominee.

A McCain campaign official said McKinnon had notified the campaign of his decision to leave but declined further comment. The McCain campaign had been expecting McKinnon's move for some months and was not surprised at his decision.

Obama, an Illinois senator, remains locked in a battle with New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination and the right to face McCain in the November general election.

Projections showed him losing the Kentucky primary to Clinton on Tuesday, but he was favored to win the later Oregon contest. His showing on Tuesday was expected to give him a majority of the elected delegates to the party's nominating convention in August.

Neither of the Democratic candidates have enough elected delegates to win the nomination, leaving the race to be decided by so-called superdelegates -- party leaders and elected officials who can vote for the candidate of their choosing.

The Cox News Service reported that McKinnon told McCain last summer that he would not work for him in the general election if Barack Obama became the Democratic nominee, saying

"I just don't want to work against an Obama candidacy."

At the time, Obama and McCain each looked like long shots for nomination.

On Sunday, McKinnon told the news service that he will continue to support McCain.

"I will still show up from time to time (and) talk to the candidate still, but not about Obama."

Now that Senator Obama is within 70 or fewer delegates needed for the nomination, the next task, as I see it, is to get swift movement of the remianing unpledged super delegates from states where Obama won primaries or caucuses.

9 of the last 11 Obama super delegates are from states where he won the primary or caucus. More than 100 of the 210 or so unpledged super delgates are form those states. Thye have a good reason to support the voters in their sattes and endorse Senator Obama.

Maybe if you're from that state you can gently urge the super tomoorrow to get on board before the train leaves the station this week. If you get a response, come back and tell us about it.

I suspect Gergen simply feels it is outrageous for any true Democrat to play racial politics, especially the Clintons who have (until recently) a long history of fighting racism in America. I also noted that there is alot of discussion about sexism as well in the primary. There has been sexism in the media and in the blogosphere. That, however, is not why Hillary is losing. Her campaign was deeply flawed, and she had a formidable opponent who is one of the best communicators we have seen in decades.

I think this false argument over the popular vote needs to be debunked.

One of the reasons some HRC supporters are not inclined to vote for Barack is the feeling that she ie HRC has been cheated.

I think the reasons she is staying in the race are very complex and not just to do with 2012. She has stopped running negative ads (otherwise I believe the SD's would be in a big rush to put Obama over the top). If she is pushed out, her supporters will be even more angry than they already are and they are needed in the GE. She is making history for women and creating a legacy even as the runner up. She has a long career ahead of her, and I believe she will do the right thing and campaign hard for Obama. They have alot invested in this race, they arent quitters, and there are some quid pro quos involved no doubt. Also the "faint hope" theory of a new calamity happening is alive and well. This popular vote fudging and moving of goalposts are just excuses for all of the above.

Its true! From speaking with older female friends- who are 20+ older than I- we don't always see eye to eye on this!

True, there is still plenty of work to do, but it has greatly improved since they were 30! Seriously. So what they might be sensitive to, we are not, because honestly its not a big deal.

I am a 27 year old AA female who attended All-Girl's private (predominantly white) schools all of my life. Perhaps due to my education, I never had the feeling of gender inferiority to any male. I certainly felt at times feelings of racial inferiority during my school years. Both of those things made me a stronger individual and plays a role in everything that I do every day of my life.

I am a vice president within my company and have a husband and 2 young sons. With that stated, there have been very few instances where my gender or race has been a detriment to me. Perhaps its all in what you make it, and I see both as positives. I thinkg it's a generational thing, IMHO.

Separated at birth!

One thing I know for sure is that having a good education is a true equalizer when it comes to gender/race.

No one can take that away from you. When you can tell someone that you went to a great school & did well there - it shuts them up. They can't argue with that.

It validates you. It has so much power.

That is why I WORK in education. I realize how lucky I was (raised by a single parent, received FULL scholarships to all my schools) to have the education I had. Now I work with high school kids & do everything I can to make sure they reach their dreams.

One of my Jrs (Hispanic boy; single parent family; very poor - SUPER bright!) was telling me that he no longer wanted to go after his dream of going to Brown. I pulled him into my office & had a real heart to heart with him. Gave him the pep talk of both our lives. I was almost in tears. He was just doubting himself & feeling like it was just too much of a long-shot.

By the time I was done with him he was ready to run for President! LOL I told him that I have high expectations of him (no one has ever said that to him) & that I would be there when he graduates.

It broke my heart that he was giving up on his dreams. I kept using myself as an example to him. He didn't realize how much he had in common with me. I think that helped him, "If Ms. L can do it I can do it!.

Sisters! Yay! My single, divorced mom raised my brother and I as well and sent us both to private schools and college and set a HIGH bar for me to follow. I feel so passionately about the power of education because you are right, no one can ever take that away!

I work in the corporate world but with a community twist as I financially educate families, students and minorites. The one thing that is for sure is that education is power and there are too many people lacking it.

I'm am so happy that someone as lovely as you has dedicated themselves to teaching and lifting up young ones. There is nothing like someone believing in you and your encouragement of your student brought tears to my eyes! (that happens a lot when I am here).

I look forward to working to support his Presidential campaign someday ;-)

Abigail - the generational thing. I am a 69-year-old white woman who attended my first political gathering in February of 2007 ... for Barack Obama (because I had read both of his books and a magazine article). This was in Dallas, TX and there were over 400 people there of all ages, races, religions,etc. A year later, I stood in line for three hours with over 20,000 other people to hear Obama in person. My first vote ever was for Kennedy in 1960, but I was not this enthusiastic back then - or at anytime since. Until Barack arrived on the scene. I bought an issue of Ebony magazine that had him and Michelle on the cover back in early 2007. I was shocked when I showed it to the young black woman who was at the checkout counter and she said, "Oh, I'm voting for Hillary." That was my first dose of what was ahead. Since then I've learned how to respond and how to "sell" the Obama brand.

And now this ... 75,000+ people in Oregon!!!! We are simply unstoppable.

I don't get it when the news pundits talk about older women. I have had a "Women for Obama" bumper sticker on my car for five months (and my 72-year-old brother has one on his car, too).

I think I know what you mean by Hillary "playing like a man," but my view is that there are certain women who 'think" they are playing like men but truly don't understand the rules.

For instance, men do play hardball but it is ALWAYS understood among them what constitutes winning and losing. In that regard, the rules don't change - ever. This is what is so maddening to me about the MI and FL issue. Men agree on what winning means; it's always clear when you win and when you lose. Hillary is trying to change the rules for winning in this case. As a man, I see that as a huge affront; a man would not play that way.

Just my opinion. I'm not scolding or anything, okay.

What I sense is that a lot of people like our campaign leadership, media pundits, the DNC leadership all want to say to Hillary "No, that is not how the game is played. You cannot and will not change the rules - period."

But instead, everyone is tiptoeing around this issue and giving her way too much slack. This ridiculous proposition of hers should have been silenced when it first came up, months ago, but we're still talking about it. WHY? Everyone knows the rules. Is it because she's a Clinton or is it also because she's a woman?

Thank you for understanding. I just feel very frustrated that this rules issue has been so divisive to the party. I'm also aware that women have played THE major role in the success of the Obama campaign.

I think women should receive the credit for really powering this campaign's success. I admire all of the women here who have worked tirelessly to achieve what we all believe in. You are the type of leaders that make both women and men proud. I sincerely mean that.

I agree with you that the U.S. is an imperfect country (surprise!!) There is a glass half full in all of this. This 21% is in certain pockets, not the whole country. Hopefully Obama can pick a VP who will have appeal for these people and/or Hillary will step up to the plate for her own legacy and stature within the Democratic Party. Obama is a gifted communicator....perhaps he can make the argument to them not to vote against their economic interests...AGAIN. I dont think he tried much (campaigned) in Kentucky did he?

Of the 21 percent of Kentucky voters who said that race was a factor in their decision, about 90% chose Hillary Clinton. In other words, more than 50,000 Kentucky Democrats are willing to admit that the pigment of Obama's skin was a reason they decided not to vote for him.

Presumably a convention pretty much follows Robert's Rules of Order. In which case, ANY policy can be amended, but it would be ridiculous for any changes to be retro-active. why would ANYONE participate in a process where the guidelines are changed at the end of the process?

I have been watching CNN all day. The math issue and popular vote thing has been debunked over and over by many pundits. The people who matter are the ones on the Rules Committee. There will be a 'separate' meeting with the Obama and Clinton people trying to come to an agreement, and how magnanimous Obama can be will depend on the state of the race on the 31st of May. Dont worry, the Rules Committee and SDs won't let this phony issue come to any fruition.

It is even more of a shame that the talking pundits do not do their work and point out how harmonious the Obama and Clinton supporters were before Bill's race comments and her race baiting tactics that began a week before Texas and Ohio.

It is easy to prove this striking difference. Yet the pundits do not have the guts to say that race is being talked about because the Clintons brought it into the race, as Ted Kennedy recently said.

So we must all come together. Hillary's supporters did not ask she and Bill to do what they did, it is not their fault. Together we have to work now to beat McCain.

Said he is in contact with and has the pulse of the uncommitted delegates.

Basically he said that the majority of ones remaining are going to give Clinton time to make a graceful exit (after P.R) only if she is willing to cut a fair deal of Fla/Mich on the 31st. If not, then they will not give her the time to make graceful exit.

Sounds like it will go on until at least the 31st.

Also, sounds like they might get Ickes to argue her big margin wins (popular vote) tonight and use it on the 31st to argue her greater electability.

So, if Howard is correct, the 31st is the big night.

I saw them one time and indeed it was very scary. I have not decided, since it is obviously a Republican hatchet job, whether it is indeed factual or not. I mean they show newspaper aricles and their headlines, but it is hard to tell if they were printshopped, or if they are mostly opinion pieces.

However, when David Gergen says, if they make her VP Obama needs to hire a food-taster, one wonders. Gergen doesn't say things lightly and knows the Clintons well.

I just don't want someone who scares me, and really, not someone who thinks she at some point was under sniper fire when she never has been. It is an insult to my kid in Iraq.

80% of all the supers who have endorsed over the past 2 months have endorsed Obama.

More than 100 of the 200 unpledged super delegates are from states where Obama won the primary or caucus.

Nancy Pelosi and others around her have said that supers should go with the pledged delegate majority, which Obama now has.

If Clinton were so darn powerful she would have won the nomination against a United States Senator with two years Senate experience. She is tough, but she is losing. (Has lost.)

Well that all sounds well in good for the 'ball-less' supers but I promise Obama has enough to rollout before the 31st gets here to give him the 2,025 number.

So the 'supers' that wait until the 31st and beyond will find themselves on the outside looking in and those that stick with Clinton in states that Obama won will be placed in jeopardy of their office because D-Kos is already gearing up to boot them out of office.

Don't forget the DNC is not making a decision for this election. They are ruling how these primaries will go in the future. If no one listens to then in 2008, why would any state play by the rules in 2012? That will be a big part in their election.

Sen. Clinton's argument is useless on the 31st. This is her argurment to the superdelegates or perhaps to changing to her crazy 2210 vote. By the way, neither of these has been persuasive so far.

As some of you might remember I am a life long Republican who's first campaign was working for Richard Nixon in 1968......I know we all make mistakes. I am so enthralled by Obama and this campaign that I have donated so many times and have made calls. You see I am one of those in the top 2% of wage earners that will be taxed at a higher rate and you know I welcome it if it will help my country. You see the past two years as the construction and housing bubble has had such an impact on my business I have had countless times that I have had to bring in employees (friends really) only to tell them that I was having to let them go because the economy has made me have to downsize. I look in my parking lot and I see the scores of empty parking spaces and in hurts me to know those are families who have been impacted. The Bush policies are hurting our country. We need Obama to bring a feeling of hope to our citizens. To lift up the hopes of all of us. My friends I am asking you join me and donate all you can, donate your time, put your shoulder to the wheel and do all you can for your country, and for Obama.
My heart felt plea is that you will join me. I pledge to donate $100 tonight. I ask each of you to donate what you can. If you can not afford money then please donate your time.

Terry McAuliffe (sp?) was the HRC surrogate in CO at the state convention this weekend. He began just fine speaking to unity but then he made a giant error. He brought up that HRC was ahead in the popular vote - well Colorado is a caucus state that Obama won ~ 67%. We are smart Terry and we know that these caucus were very well attended yet don't get tabulated into the popular vote thus any "popular" vote argument is moot. Terry poked the bear and Obama supporters jumped up, began to boo this point and then began chanting, "Yes We Can" to drown out his drivel. Once, he resumed his speech without lies, the Obama people once again were very respectful!

Keep battling this myth of popular vote because it is a lie and that is what is so concerning - HRC and her campaign seem deliberating manipulative and intelligently dishonest. How refreshing that Barack Obama respects all people and remains authentic.

Let's go change the world!

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., hauled in $31.9 million in April (including $600,000 for the general election) to continue his battle for the Democratic nomination against Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, ABC news was first to report tonight. Obama out-raised Clinton -- who raised close to $22 million -- by almost $10 million.

Two hundred thousand new donors joined Obama's effort last month.

Obama has an mighty $37.3 million on hand with $9.2 million tucked away for the general election.

His April total is considerably less than his March haul of $41 million. But his April fundraising total is also considerably more than what was raised by Clinton and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who had his best fundraising month yet in April, taking in $18 million.

Camp Obama proves (again) that big money comes in small packages. It's been a pattern since last year but the numbers are still impressive: 1.475 million total donors overall making 2.93 million contributions. The average contribution is $91.

The clicks come in small waves: 94% of the contributions to Obama's effort were under $200, 93% of contributions were $100 or less, 77% were $50 or less, and 52% were $25 or less.

Of the 21 percent of Kentucky voters who said that race was a factor in their decision, about 90% chose Hillary Clinton. In other words, more than 50,000 Kentucky Democrats are willing to admit that the pigment of Obama's skin was a reason they decided not to vote for him.
