I just posted my 2nd Youtube video, to make a difference this election cycle. It's been months in the making, and a real labor of love. It very much makes my day to share it with Barack family.

It's based on a national anti-Bush CD-single I put out with Whole World in 2004. It went out to 1,400 college & Indi radio stations across the country, and was included on the CD insert in CMJ music magazine's Sept 2004 news-stand issue. The song charted in portions of the country, was played on Air America Radio, and received positive responses from Al Franken, Howard Dean, Michael Moore & Leonard Nimoy (of all people).

Excellent - we must keep this up. McCain is reportedly delighted that Bush couldn't speak on Monday due to Gustav, but we must continue to link these two as their policies are identical.

So many of their policies ARE identical.

Our President wants to eliminate the tax exemption for employer provided health care and replace that with a tax credit (of not nearly the same value)-- so does Senator McCain.

Our President wants to privatize social security-- so does Senator McCain.

Our President thinks that the more tax cuts you can give to big companies and wealthy people, the better-- so does Senator McCain.

Perhaps most importantly, neither our President, nor Senator McCain has a clue why we are in this mess, or how to get us out of it. Both would continue to same old economic policies and just tell themselves that they were seeing a different result.

The law Obama voted on in Illinois was DIFFERENT then the federal law related to this abortion related issue.....

Actually read the law carefully.....

George W. Bush's policies have caused MORE ABORTIONS in the 8 years he has been President then the 8 years Bill Clinton has been President....

McCain doesn't want to allow contraceptives which will create more abortions....he is not anti-abortion....

Yes, managing people IS executive experience.

Not only has Senator Obama outperformed all opponents, including Senator McCain, in managing this Presidential campaign-- he has also

successfully managed 700 people to register the most voters (registration drive) in Illinois history in 1992-- he also did this more cost-efficiently than had been done previously.

As a community organizer for 3 years, Senator Obama managed many volunteers to get things done for the people in the economically devastated (after the steel mills began closing) South side of Chicago.

As the editor of Harvard's Law Review, Senator Obama managed the law review staff to produce the law review during his time there. He did so successfully by all accounts, conservative, liberal and moderate.

Senator Obama has also run his State Senate office and U.S. Senate office efficiently and without drama.

Senator McCain has run his Senate office and this Campaign and NOTHING else. He has run this Campaign with multiple firings, much drama, no real message for our future, inconsistency and many errors and mistakes.

Senator Obama clearly has the better executive record between the two candidates-- there is really no doubt about it, though the GOP still gets right on spinning with absurdities and nonsensical inconsistencies.

Senator McCain also likes to duck lots and lots of votes.

Yes, this is a Presidential election year-- but Senator McCain has missed more votes than any other Senator by a landslide. He has missed 63.8% of the votes-- 407 total. These votes include the FISA amend vote, the G.I. Bill and other bills related to help for veterans. He has NOT voted more than HALF of the time in this last Congress. He has only voted 231 times-- and most of these are non-controversial votes. He ducks out on ALL of the potentially controversial votes.

Conversely, Senator Obama -- who obviously had a longer primary contest to complete and less time for Washington-- only missed 45.5% of the votes, or 290. He SHOWED up and cast a vote on the no-win FISA amend, on the excellent GI Bill, to save medicare and so many other pieces of critical legislation.

In many ways John McCain has intent similar to George Bush (90 - 95% of the time). However, I think the bigger picture should be brought into focus. McCain is a wolf in "maverick" clothing and his teeth are showing! McCain would not = Bush's 3rd term, he would be worse! We should bring this election home by focusing on the issue that McCain would be worse - as evidenced by one of the most important pre-presidential decisions a candidate could make. "Straight Talk" is McCain's fantasy. Barrack Obama has tried to emphasize a particular point throughout his campaign - Judgment! This weekend - the "better judgment" candidate could not have been made more obvious. What desperate measure would drive a presidential candidate to select a VP nominee that has impending emotional and moral challenges to deal with in her household and is in the middle of an ethical investigation? Yes - Ms. Palin should have had the good sense as a mother to put aside her own political ambitions to say thanks but no thanks in light of her daughter's situation -- but ultimately, McCain's judgment - or lack thereof, is the main issue that is fantastically irrational and desperate. The thinly veiled attempt to create history for political means is not an example of "country first" - but rather, a wolf in "maverick" clothing seeking to win at all costs and "by any means necessary". If any woman has earned the right to be the first woman president or vice president - Hillary owns that real estate outright, and then some. The game of politics does not have to be a slanderous, disparaging process - as the Obamas have demonstrated. The issues at hand should be the focus along with judgment.

Well, the question about investors overseas is a good one...because we all know that greedy rich people will find a way to keep their money...one way or another. That's exactly what happened when apartheid ended in South Africa. The rich white people took their money and ran. Sad isn't it? Ya know, at this point there's probably no way around it...maybe after 300 more years of suffering(if global warming doesn't kill us all by then), people will finally realize that we're all connected and that we rise or fall together.

As for the energy issue. JOHN MCCAIN IS PERFORMING A HOAX ON THE STUPID AMERICANS WITH THE DRILL HERE DRILL NOW B.S.!!! It's simply LUDICROUS!!! How stupid are people...really. When we only have 3% of the worlds oil and currently consume 25% of it..uh...duh....do the math idiots.
Even oil man T.Boone Pickens admits that drilling iis not the solution. Barack's positions on energy proposals for the future are sound. My only criticism of him is pushing COAL (Yes, we all know Illinois is the "Saudi Arabia" of coal) unless they figure out a way to capture the co 2's.

Geez..McCain pushing the nuclear option..sure, we'll need to do some nuclear, but good luck finding people who want it in their backyards...that'll take forever to get pushed forward..then there's the waste issue..again..not in my backyard!!

I'm so pleased to hear it. I called into your state during the primaries-- and spoke to many kind, decent CONCERNED people who were not ready to easily trust anyone they didn't know personally. From what I can find, it looks like that mistrust has been well earned by outsiders interfering and causing problems in West Virginia-- and making promises that are not kept.

I'm glad to hear we will be fighting hard for your state-- and hope that we can turn that cynicism into hope that fills the heart and lifts the spirit once more AND into RESULTS after Senator Obama's election and inauguration!

Getting Democrats registered to vote is an effort that can help deliver victory for us in November. TIME IS GETTING SHORT. SOME REGISTRATION DEADLINES ARE JUST A FEW WEEKS AWAY.

Please encourage people to visit the new VOTE FOR CHANGE website Link
At this site people will be able to: find out if they are registered to vote; get registered to vote; apply to vote absentee; plus find early vote locations.

You can hand out slips of paper to people printed with the VOTE FOR CHANGE web address. Or you can find voter registration forms to print out for each state at the Board of Elections links below. You’ll also find contact information at these sites so you can call and ask about voter registration requirements.

Registering someone can be a pretty quick and simple process. It literally takes me about two minutes to get a registration form completed. I keep a stack of registration forms with me and just in going about my day, I have been able to register sales clerks, waiters, people at sporting events, and even the plumber who was fixing our faucet!

I don't think so. If Senator McCain's VP pick has to drop out that would raise so many questions about his executive competence as to be close to a fatal blow to his candidacy-- that would even be beyond the mind of Karl Rove, even though Mr. Rove is known to urge many things that often result in short-term gains, but whose long-term costs are enormous and often crippling. (It is incredible to me that anyone in the GOP is still following this man's lead-- but then, when one puts ideology ahead of common sense and rationality, often one finds it difficult to find the forest for the trees).

I thought long and hard about posting this but due to recent Palin bombs I decided to share this with my Obama family. I was a teenage mom at 17. While I was on birth control, I ended up pregnant. I personally couldn’t have an abortion but seriously thought about it in the beginning. I developed toxemia towards the end of my pregnancy and it seemed both the baby and I may die due to this. During the delivery (I was already out due the C-section) they had to ask who do we try to save the mother or the baby, and my now husband said the mother of course as we can have other children. We were blessed that both of us came through it fine but it was no picnic during and the years after. Raising a child and being a child at the same time is tough. To this day I stress to my children the hard life of being a parent so young and what I missed out on because of my choices. Now while I don’t have any regrets and pray Bristol comes out of this as well as I did, I cannot support the views Sarah Palin has on women’s rights. Primarily with neither the abstinence only philosophy nor the right to choose. From what I understand, my rights would be void even with the medical circumstances I actually faced. I realize that medical science has come a long way in 22 years but it seems she disagrees with this as well with the creationism belief. My issues are not of how they decide to handle the baby and marriage stuff but with the issues as a voter and how this would change the world on an ordinary woman like myself. We are a unique success story, more than most teen marriages and those with children end up in divorce. I did marry my high school sweetheart and the father and am happily married today almost 22 years later. We are the proud parents of a daughter 22 and a son age 16. As for me who has a simple GED and no college, I made a choice to be a parent and am just that. I am a housewife who may go back to work at some point but placed my children and husband first and have no regrets.

no harm befalls them. what they might choose to do in the face a adversity is their personal business and i don't want a leader who will prevent them from making their own choice.

April, thank you for sharing your story. I think there are some women out there who truly don't understand what it will mean if McCain is elected. It is a very personal decision, but to completely take away the choice under all circumstances frightens me.

"What is at stake in this election are our ideals and our view of the future, as well as current realities. The Palin choice brings both front and center. Democrats, being Democrats, will mostly talk about the realities nonstop without paying attention to the dimensions of values and symbolism. Democrats, in addition, need to call an extremist an extremist: to shine a light on the shared anti-democratic ideology of McCain and Palin, the same ideology shared by Bush and Cheney. They share values antithetical to our democracy. That needs to be said loud and clear, if not by the Obama campaign itself, then by the rest of us who share democratic American values."

This ad is a great response to Lakoff's theories. Great job, team Obama!

As an Independent, I must confess... I'm still on the fence. But at least I know that I'm not alone. There's still a large block of Undecideds.

There are times when I'm SO sure I'm going to vote for Obama. And then there are times when I'm SO sure I'm not going to vote at all.

I, like many, many Undecideds, have spent a great deal of time following this election, reading all the blogs, watching C-SPAN, listening to speeches, following the issues, etc., etc. Many times when I read posts on this blog, I get totally turned off by *SOME* of the Obama supporters. As for McCain's blog, well, suffice it to say *ALL* of his supporters make me remember why I hate Politics, in general. Actually, I've always felt that our two-party system leaves much to be desired, and that our voting system is seriously flawed.

Anyway.... I just want everyone to realize that there are a great many Undecideds who will probably remain undecided until after the debates, or perhaps until we actually walk into the voting booth on the 4th. And yes, what we read on this, and other, blogs does indeed get factored into our decision.

On that note.... time for me to get back to work!

I guess I'm confused too.

I'm confused by your sudden (although understood, just not agreed with problem of support for certain).

I thought you understood that this election was not about John McCain or Barack Obama. That's what Barack has told you, and all of those who would listen.

No this election is about you, me, and the 95% of Americans like us who need real change in not just Washington but America and the world.

This campaign is about the future of this country and those who come behind us. Our children and grandchildren as long as the lineage goes on.

It's about how we leave this world for them and whether or not they will be safe in it. Safe from the fears that Republicans have nurtured for these last 8 years. Safe from a planet dying because of the use of fossil fuels. Safe from the probability of being either homeless or jobless or both. Safe from their health problems and the costs they might accumulate because of them.

Women must feel safe from being discriminated against and paid less for the same job because of their gender and feel safe knowing that they will have the right to decide whether or not to continue an unwanted pregnancy doe very personal reasons such as incest or rape and health.

The cost to America is enormous. It is without any real argument any one Republican can really discredit.

We have passionate posters and supporters here. Some times they might take thng too far, and that is never right or good, but it should never be about what a person posts but what you know in your heart of hearts about the issues you support and Barack.

Take your time and think. You will eventually make the right choice. I believe in you as does Barack.

It's more important to get it right for yourself and vote than to sit and not be sure.

Good luck Sans. I hope you choose as wisely as you have shown yourself to be here.

50%! - This has been thrown down by the MSM at the threshold for Obama 'owning' this election.

"Why isn't Obama at 50%" has been the question tossed around since May. Now Obama is at 50% - let's see if this gets play with MSM. It should - especially with Palin, the reminder of Katrina, etc. surrounding McCain... this gives MSM an absolute opening to say "Obama has taken a commanding lead."

If this takes hold, then McCain will be seen (at least for a while) as the desperate #2 -- and everything he does will be tinged with desperation.

There's really only one way to win Florida...

Move some of those 600,000 CUBAN REPUBLICANS to the Democratic column. The elderly Cubans (the ones that always vote) are die-hard Republicans. The younger ones are moving, albeit very slowly. We need as many Cuban Americans as possible to make a real difference in Florida.

Now, that being said, that's ONLY if the Jewish community comes out in full-force for Barack/Biden.

If you can win Dade (Miami), Broward (Ft. Lauderdale) and Orange (Orlando) County big, you win Florida. Palm Beach County helps as well.

They are sooooooooo nervous. The Palin pick is backfiring as the days go on. More and more negatives are coming out about her, this so-called "reformer." i think the saddest part of this palin mess is that it's making people question whether women can handle work and family at the same time. YES WE CAN! millions of women do a great job of it every day. unfortunately, she isn't one of them. i don't think her husband does that great a job of parenting either. when HRC was running, i don't remember anyone EVER saying that HRC couldn't balance family and work. as chelsea was growing up, HRC worked and did a lot of good for a lot of people. and michelle obama-- she's such an awesome mom and what a great role model for our girls! there are so many examples of smart, strong women who, with the help of their families and friends, were able to work and raise some terrific kids. this whole mess is really taking the hard work of all these women, all women, back several decades. sad...

(CBS) Democratic nominee Barack Obama's lead over Republican John McCain has grown after the Democratic convention, which 71 percent of Americans say they watched. Obama and his running mate Joe Biden now lead McCain and Sarah Palin 48 percent to 40 percent, according to the latest CBS News poll.

This is the first CBS News poll to include the vice presidential candidates in the horserace question.

The eight-point lead for the Democratic ticket is up from Obama’s three-point lead before the convention. But there are still a significant number of voters who have yet to firmly make up their minds.

Before the Democratic convention, McCain enjoyed a 12-point advantage with independent voters, but now Obama leads among this group 43 percent to 37 percent. Obama's lead among women has also grown to 14 points (50 percent to 36 percent), and the Democrat maintained the lead he had before the convention among voters who supported Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries.

The poll shows an increase in the number of Obama voters who are enthusiastic about him. Sixty-seven percent of Obama voters say they enthusiastically support him, which is up from 48 percent who said so before the convention. About a quarter of McCain’s backers are enthusiastic about him--unchanged from before the Democratic convention.

Sixty-three percent of registered voters say Obama understands their needs and problems, while just 41 percent say that about McCain. And after the Democratic convention, 58 percent of voters say Obama is "tough enough," which is up from 48 percent in early August.

Though Obama has seen his lead grow, there are still areas where he has room to improve. The latest CBS News poll shows no change in the percentage of registered voters who say Obama has prepared himself well enough for the job-- a sentiment in which McCain has held a large advantage. But fewer voters now say Obama is not prepared for the job of President than before the convention.

Although 50 percent of voters now say that Obama has made it clear what he would do as president (up from 41 percent), 44 percent still say the Democratic nominee has not made it clear.

CBS) CBS News started polling the evening after McCain named Sarah Palin as his running mate. Twenty-eight percent of voters now say the vice-presidential candidates will matter in how they vote, which is up from the 25 percent who said so before Biden and Palin were named to their respective tickets.

Many people still have a lot to learn about the two VP candidates.

Views of Joe Biden run favorable by 2-to-1, with about half still undecided.

Views of Sarah Palin run favorable by 2-to-1 but among fewer people, since two-thirds still don’t know enough about her to give an opinion.

Voters’ reaction to the selection of a woman as vice-presidential nominee is not much different than it was nearly 25 years ago, when Walter Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate. A quarter of voters are excited about it, and 60 percent think it’s all right. Just 11 percent think it’s a bad idea.

But few voters say that having Palin on the Republican ticket will change their vote much. Just 13 percent say they are more likely to vote for McCain as a result of having Palin on the ticket, while about as many (11 percent) say they are less likely to do so. Seventy-two percent say it won’t make a difference in their vote.

Interestingly, Palin’s selection may have the greatest effect on men. Seventeen percent of men say they are more likely to vote for McCain as a result, while just 10 percent of women say the same. Eighteen percent of Republicans say they are are more likely to vote for McCain.

Meanwhile, Obama's selection of Senator Joe Biden as his running mate also affects few voters. But in those cases where it does matter, Biden’s presence has a greater net positive impact than Palin’s. Fifteen percent are more likely to vote for Obama as a result of the Biden pick, while just four percent are less likely to do so. One in five independents say the choice of Biden will make them more likely to vote for Obama.

Michelle Obama has boosted her favorable ratings considerably with the convention with 41 percent of voters now having a favorable opinion of the potential first lady (up from 28 percent in August). Hillary Clinton's favorable ratings are now the highest she has enjoyed in about a decade with 52 percent of registered voters having a favorable opinion of her.

This year, it is particularly challenging to measure any “bounce” Obama might have received as a result of his convention, due to the compressed timeframe of the conventions and the emergence of Hurricane Gustav as a major news story. That said, Obama appears to have received a three-point increase in support, which is similar to the increase George W. Bush received in 2004 after his convention. John Kerry received no bounce from his convention in 2004.

These enthusiasm numbers are key.....going from 48 to 67% is huge, especially as Obama gained supporters, so of existing supporters it probably went up closer to 75%.....

This increase of 50% more enthusiastic spporters means we have a stronger volunteer network as well....I think we will quickly grow form 2M to 3M volunteers....and after Obama embarasses McCain in the first debate, lights it up, I think we can grow to 4-5M volunteers, very enthusiastic and shatter the voter registration goals....

I feel it is realistic to gain 7 points with voter registrations (current, ongoing, and those of last month or two not included in the polls) in battle ground states.

Moveon.org will gain at least a pt for us in battleground states with their goals....

The Obama campaign I feel can gain 4 points in battle ground states at least...

Together that is 5 points...

And another 3 points from getting those who wouldn't vote otherwise (registered in other states, living abroad and not counted in polls) set up to vote....

These 8 points are going to re-write the electoral map. We would immediately be up by double digits in all the purple states....and be up by perhaps 5 in the non-battleground states (2 pts with voters abroad not counted in state polls).

If we can do this we can re-write the electoral map....

Also we need to hustle to get people to the polls in the states with early voting..Ohio let's people vote early September 30 to October 5th....

People unregistered can register and vote the same day....

I think between registering people on the ground in OH, and getting other unregistered folks to vote early, or people that might miss the Nov 4th vote to vote early we have a real opportunity to gain 12+ points in that state...We are up 8 on Zogby Zogby.com/50state if you factor in convention boost..This would put us up 20.....

If by October 5th we have taken down OH, McCain can't even contest it. Obama will win PA by 15 points.

I tend to hate all the negative ads, but that '90% of the time' thing is great coming straight from McCain...I don't think I ever saw him actually saying it before. When we say it, it sounds a little like cheesy campaign spin to me, so this is much better.

It's a little difficult to actually get things passed in congress (both House and Senate) when your margin of majority is much lower than the 2/3rds needed to override a Presidential veto, which Bush used quite readily.

Let's see how a Democratic congress does with a Democratic President before we lay blame to or dismiss the Democratic House/Senate. alright.

I'm contacting my SoS office in the am to try and fix the problem. I also forwarded this info to everyone in my address book because we all know the republicans plan to try and suppress voters this fall and if we do not take action now many people will have to cast provisional ballots and we now from history that the courts are not on our side. We have to make sure our first ballots are counted this Nov.

This bloodfest of bashing Sarah Palin is playing right into the hands of the Republicans.

When it seemed like the media, etc., were being hard on Hillary, we started to lose ground. Bad debate questions, less favorable coverage, etc. Plus, people started to say that we were playing dirty.

Now we have Sarah Palin. All of the "scandals" that are being uncovered really aren't that big a deal. Her daughter's pregnant, she used to be part of some seperatist Alaska group in the 90s, she's a huge guns, God, and anti-gay person. This isn't going to sink her with Indies and Righties...don't y'all get it?

We need to LISTEN to Barack. He said "back off." I know we've got many arm-chair campaign folks who think they know better...but Barack said to back off for a reason. Keep this Palin bashfest going, and we're in trouble.

I'm getting tired of seeing the same LINKs over and over again about Governor Palin. We got it, she's got some dirt.

But why post it here? It's like preaching to the choir. Most people that post here aren't going to vote for McBush...so sharing this information about Palin over and over isn't really doing much but allowing McBush and the media to link the information (although tenuously) to Obama.

This is herd mentality at its highest level. I think folks were really scared about Palin. Why can't we just let this play out? Obama's not spending ANY time talking about her, her record, or her views because he doesn't want to make this election about HER for the next 2 months.

We've spent the whole summer knocking McBush down...Obama wants to keep it up. We don't have enough time to mess around with Palin, so we're not going there.

Nonsense. It is the Obama Campaign's duty to detail Palin's policy views, her past policy statements and political actions and her qualifications to be president. Of course, Obama is correct that her family should be off limits. But otherwise, voters must understand who Palin is and how she will act as President.

No, it is McBush's duty to detail Palin's policy views, past policy statements, and political actions. If she has none - then the void is pointed out by Obama. If positions that are problematic come out - then Obama may discuss them.

The other day, I checked out Rush Limbaugh's web site for the first time, just for laughs. Well, what I saw didn't make me laugh at all. I actually lost my sense of humor. Limbaugh's site is full of hate-mongering, rumor, spew and trash. IT was a real wake-up call for me to see what we are up against.

Remember that it was Fox News that called Michelle Barack's "Baby Mama." That was completely uncalled-for and came out of nowhere. Now the joke is on the Republicans and the punchline is "Sarah Pahlin."

I strongly disagree. The point is to keep the conversation about Palin here constructive and civil, which I see most of us doing. But she needs to be thoroughly vetted, and the resulting information widely disseminated before the other side can define her in their terms.

Obama's speech was particularly well-received because he finally showed some fortitude in his attacks on McCain and company. The "concern trolls" here who keep warning us about talking about Palin too much are the very reason we have lost election after election. We need to fight for Obama, but fight fair. Our biggest risk is in becoming a bunch of wimps (again). Fight for Obama, but fight fair, and keep the info flowing.

First of all, I'm sure you are not calling me a troll...let alone a "concern troll." That is a funny first for me.

Secondly, if you listened to Obama's speech, he fought, but he didn't get petty. Talking about Palin's daughter being pregnant is petty. Many people, even the holiest of holy rollers, have children who get in trouble. It's nothing to run with and proclaim that we've won the election.

I'm all for arguing that McBush's judgment was poor by choosing someone he didn't vet, who he didn't know, and who doesn't truly reflect the principles he's been campaigning on (i.e. experience). But all of this other nonsense about "troopergate" and "teen pregnancy gate" and beign part of some random Alaskan Independence Group many years ago will not resonnate that deeply with swing voters, who kind of just "like the gal."

Both candidates have made their VP decisions. Now is the time to make the distinctions. People are paying attention so we cant be like sheep and ignore it. We need to know the facts and the differences between the two tickets. The reality is that the MSM are creating issues and people who are undecided listen and it is our duty to educate ourselves on the distinctions between the two tickets. I like the Ads going out, but i think the campaign is missing out on talking about important issue to the American people "Judgement". Please i think the America knows that Mccain is no different from Bush they are from the same party.

Use the theme "Judegement" to run some campaigns pointing out that; Mccain claims to have expereince and good judgement then he has not proved it well by picking the wrong VP who has no expereince to lead the country when Mccain who is old may not be able to.

Palin as Governor has to represent her constituents and the majority of her constituents share this view.....People who live their consider Alaska a country and don't want a large federal role setting the state agenda....

This is even similar to some extent to the view of those in very rural states like Montana....the local governments don't want the state governments interfering, the state governments don't want the federal government...

I don't see pushing for a lower federal role making you unpatriotic, I don't even see wanting to separate from the US as hating the US...

In Puerto Rico 1/3rd of the people want to stay a territory, another 1/3rd want to become a state, another 1/3rd want to separate completely....

Does this mean that 1/3rd of Puerto Ricans who want to separate HATE the us...do those that not want to become a state feel their people are someone superior to those in these states....

In Alaska there is a serious need for people to have rifles with all the crazy animals running around, the the popularity of hunting as part of their culture...They don't have the gun violence problems of inner city Chicago....Should they be forced to hold the same laws as inner city Chicago when these laws are there to prevent against problems that they don't have in their state?

If I were Governor of Alaska I sure wouldn't want a large federal role...

Mccain is welll known for saying "Put country first". My question is by selecting Palin did he put country first. Or in this case country first does not matter. Mccain you can not pick and chose when to "put country first". Surely Selecting Palin was not puting country first but more like "Put evangelicals first"

Aside from the Obamacans at the convention, are there any moderate Repbulicans left, who will go on TV and say 'McCain shows he doesn't have the judgement to lead!'? This Palin pick is a disaster for anyone seriously concerned with governing the country or anyone with even moderate social veiws. Or anyone concerned with our safety. I'm really sickened by all the GOP politicians parroting the talking points here, and I don't want to spend more time discussing Palin - it's McCain's rash judgement that is the issue.

We are a better country than this!

Hagel seems like a good guy - reluctant to endorse Obama since he is a Republican. But, he also seems to be a true 'country first' (as opposed to 'Alaska first') type. I wrote him a letter explaining how outraged I am, and hoping he changes his mind to endorse.

An endorsement like this from the right would be great for the campaign and get a lot of people thinking - I think so many people in this country have blinders on and are not even thinking. They made up their mind on McCain a long time ago, and someone needs to shake them up.

they found a handful of AA men at the RNC to bag about Obama and why they cannot vote for him

now on Tell Me More - the have some AA women who self describe themselves as conservatives... this one women had the nerve to say that conservatives have "values" and liberals dont. Remember, values to repubs are simply gay marriage and abortion (and maybe teen pregnancy as an 'offshoot', ahem). Values are not serving the poor, educating our kids, tax relief, morality in war, etc. I've always laughed at the repubs/evangelicals who point to Leviticus and its condemnation of homosexuality, but yet cannot begin to acknowledge the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes.

You know with Carly saying this, she is going to put the women's movement back 20 or 30 years. You can not say that this woman be given a privilege of not answering questions when she is running for VPOTUS office. Are we just going to allow any female in? Why? We do not do that for the Men. As long as the woman are treated the same as any man, there should not be any complaints. For weeks now, some of the quilters have thought that Oprah would LOVE the story of the Obama Quilt...and how 26 women came together to create this as a fundraiser for Barack. The quilters have NEVER met (except for 3 of us who were surprised to find ourselves in the same city)... so, Oprah could help us with that too. None of us has met Dan who did our video!!!

ANYWAY, we have not been able to get thru to her staff re: the quilt and this idea. So...do any of you have a link to Oprah, or a suggestion? It would be a GREAT reflection of WOMEN FOR OBAMA and since so many women watch Oprah, it MIGHT help...certainly it could help w/donations to the campaign.

PRESIDENT BUSH'S SPEECH

President Bush is not going to St. Paul, because "it's appropriate that the President be here at the White House" in light of the ongoing situation from Hurricane Gustav and the other storms churning in the Atlantic, White House press secretary Dana Perino told reporters at a briefing today. She added that Bush wants to be sure "the follow-through" is as good as the preparation.

In his speech to the Republican convention, the president will express his gratitude to Republicans and make brief remarks about the Hurricane. But the bulk of the remarks will be about why he thinks McCain is suited for the commander-in-chief role.

The remarks are expected to run just under eight minutes. The original remarks for Monday timed out at about 15 minutes.

This is a Great Ad! I can't wait to see it all over cable! Here in Iowa we've been seeing too many McCain ads.

I heard an awesome Obama radio ad this morning. It was a nurse talking about how McCain wants to overturn Roe v. Wade & take away Women's Right to Choose.

I mean during our convention people were out in the streets with Obama signs and changing Obama Obama. All I see out on the streets are people holding Ron Paul signs and anti-war protesters. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of enthusiasm. I know I am biased but Mrs Bush and Cindy McCain were awful speakers last night. They really don't perform well with the teleprompter. I wonder if Joe LIEberman will get booed tonight. I also read where the RNC gave talking points to the Alaska delegation.

S. O’brian (sp) is interviewing the “CEO of the GOP Convention” on CNN. The topic of the conversation is mostly about how she is in charge of making sure all the “chairs” are in the right place and that the delegates and their friends and family are seated in the right place and that she has not read a newspaper in three days. Hmmm, TV hmmm.

Then . . . . there is the daily 5am, yes I said 5am phone call to McCain and/or his employees to decide who is actually even going to show up and speak. Probably not current VP, and current Pres. Only buy satellite blah blah blah . . .

Jaena, your words are probably falling on deaf ears. I remember during the Wright scandal, that's all this blog talked about. We tried and tried and tried to get people to stop giving it legs, but to no avail. Eventually, it sunk in and people realized that we were just as responsible for keeping it in the news as the news was itself. The media (and our opponents) are reading our blogs and will use it against us. They've done it before and highlighted some of our posts on TV. Hopefully, everyone will come together, in accord, and stop focusing on this woman. It is what it is. We all know what time it is. Like I said yesterday, let the media do the dirt and let us wipe our hands clean from this potential disaster. It's a set-up anyway.

I think McCain has made a huge mistake with his VP selection. I believe a VP pick can hurt a presidential candidate.

Palin has very extreme views and the American public needs to be informed.

The Huffington Post has a new post called "Palin's Church May Have Shaped Controversial World View". She makes troubling and interesting claims.

I believe her viewpoints and ideology are crucial in this election. The RNC states she is a reformer but the Washington Post published an article(today) that states otherwise.

Canceling the first day of the convention because of Gustav was a very reasonable decision. Selecting Palin as VP was a very rash and foolish decision. Let's try to make a clearer distinction between McCain decisions that are reasonable and McCain decisions that are foolish.

Not sure of the law on this in Alaska, every state is different. But it has been reported Palin has previously stated that even if her daughter became pregnant due to rape she would make her have the baby.

Given Palin stance not sure her daughter had any decision but to do what her mother chose for her.

From what I can decipher, the age of consent is 16 in Alaska-- so this would not be statutory rape.

Despite what her mother wanted, in our Country, a woman (even a girl) still carries the weight of this decision herself. This pregnancy is also too far advanced for any doctor to perform an abortion since the girl's life is not in jeopardy. She could have chosen adoption, but her choices were limited not by her mother, but by the fact that her pregnancy is in the second trimester, coming close to the third.

It is my opinion that this girl has more than enough on her plate and that this is not political fair game. Though, please know-- this is not meant as an attack on you for your understandable curiosity.

Actually, I posted something up thread in regards to the Palin family members and someone reported me. The comment and all responses to it were deleted.

I'm totally ok with getting reported because HQ contacted me and very nicely told me that Barack would like all of us to not pass on negative information about the Palin children. I totally respect that. But what was so cold were the mean insults my post received. I passed on some silly information I heard on Tom Hartmann's show today but nothing derogatory or hateful. I would never do that. Those mean comments can hurt. Especially when you've been here for a year and worked so hard for the campaign like we all do. Fortunately, I didn't recognize any of the user names. It didn't look like any of the regulars who have been here as long us some of us.

Anyway, sorry about the post above. It is totally out of context now because the whole conversation was deleted before it. (LOL) I just asked HQ to please delete it.

Has anyone seen the storm watch maps lately?

Nearly all of the Atlantic has a storm or tropical storm or nearly a Hurricane all headed this way.

I don't recall in recent memory seeing such a storm watch map.

Pretty crazy weather. Hmmm . . . All this really got really stirred up just recently, like LAST FRIDAY.

Hmmm . . . those evangelicals must have prayed WAY to hard.

Or if you've read "The Secret," and understand the law of attraction, then you can see, that physics law is surely on Obama's - 85K people at his acceptance speech

the physics law for the "OTHER" canidate is "tracking" him down!!!!

Sarah Palin had no business accepting the job of VP. No business! It was highly irresponsible of her. Mayor of Wasilly of 5K or Gov. of Alaska of 700K is one thing. But VP of US of 300 million people, 3 wars, an economy in shambles, all the issues facing this country??? Are you freaking kidding me???!

I have 1 16-Y-O child, a husband, a dog, and a full-time job and it's all I can do to keep my sanity and find some time for myself.

How can a woman with 5 children, 1 of them 4-Mos. old with Down syndrome, and a 17-Y-O who is 5 mos. pregnant even think about taking on such a responsibility?

She should have said no. She had no business accepting this job.

Women ARE different from men. I don't care how much of a "feminist" you say you are. I don't care how PC it is to claim we are men's equal. Our roles ARE different. That's how God made us! We are the nuturers. We are the caregivers. We should embrace that. Our role as mother is more important than any other. It certainly is more important than that of VP especially for a woman in Palin's position.

And all this crap about how the evangelical base loves it - BALONEY! Evangelicals are staunch believers in a woman's role in the home!

What you hear from the McCain campaign is nothing but spin! They put Palin on the ticket because they bought into the media hype that there were 18M disaffected Hillary supporters who wouldn't vote for Barack. This is how incompetent these morons are that they bought into the hype and now it's going to backfire big time.

As much as I respect every one of your thoughts and you as a person, I disagree with you about the role of women. I am a man, married to a caring, intelligent, strong, and capable woman and I tell you first hand that she can do anything I can do and some of them better. As a man I can say that I can do almost anything she does (with the obvious exceptions of getting pregnant and the maternal functions). BUT

I 100% agree with you that Sarah Palin should have said no. If she were man, the he should have said no given the situation they are in.

i said the same thing a couple days ago and got scolded. i think i would say the same for a father with a newborn who is ill. a newborn needs a good year of both parents' time and even more if the baby has a birth defect. i was upset when edwards chose to go on with his pres. campaign when elizabeth was diagnosed w/ cancer. it's not just about being there to support your family. it is also about what will happen to the person running if/when something happens to their loved one. i just think it's bad judgement for anyone to take on more responsibilities at ANY job when you KNOW things could get rougher at home for you. in this case it is putting your own self interests before the country.

i don't consider myself a feminist, rather a female who is a wife, mother, professional, daughter, sister, auntie and a friend.

i happen to agree with you about women playing a role and serving a purpose that only women can really serve. i believe that we were made with a totally different makeup than men and that is why we are so different in how we nurture our children and our families and friends.

that being said, i think it was quite reckless for palin to accept this position. she was selfish and appears to not have been thinking about her family. too bad for her.

a female who would never take a higher position than i already have because i don't want to be burnt out and not do an acceptable/good job at nurturing my three children. i also want to have the wherewithal to be a good partner, and a good daughter to aging parents and a responsible, caring sister to my siblings.

We can focus on issue discussions but this drama into a candidate's personal life has to stop. Obama's team knows what they are doing and what they need to do to win this election. They know how to attack issues. They know what ads to run.

So many "weird" situations...puzzle pieces are beginning to come together...

Bush was "surprised" when a reporter asked Bush about the price of gas almost $4. There's NO WAY Bush didn't know that. Besides the fumble of not concentrating in Afghanistan in the first place. We all know by now the real reason for Iraq was oil. And the lack of plans for what to do in Iraq when to get out.

Bush takes Obama's advice to talk to Iran and begin to end the Iraq war while McCain still talks war war war.

So strange that little country of Georgia does advance first into those two "break off countries" and provokes Russia to invade Georgia. Russia's problem was they stayed too long and were too harsh. Now one of McCain's major advisors is lobbyist for Georgia. And of course oil pipelines run right through Georgia.

McCain never met Palin, and his highest advisors didn't know of her as choice, Ms. Palin who was member and even gave address to (in 2008) Alaska Independence Party whose motto is "Alaska First Alaska forever" and goal is to secede from the U.S. Alaska...wallowing in oil money. Stangest most irresponsible decision ever made in politics!

McCain has always, as well as other Republicans, freaked out at the thought of alternative energy and weaning ourselves off oil. that's been the holdup in Congress...Dems. WANT monies for alternative energy and stood up to the Republicans who just want to keep us on oil forever to line their pockets.

Cindy McCain's ridiculous view of Palin's "foreign experience" is that Palin lives in a state closest to Russia? or that Palin deals with Canada next door? Tell me now, just HOW many people actually live in that part of Canada??? Is that a hint that McCain is trying to drum up more problems now that he doesn't have any talking points about Iraq?

McCain is a puppet just like Bush is. And it's oil lobbyists running the country, the policies and the Republicans. WAKE UP AMERICA.

So far the only oilman who makes any sense at all is T Boone Pickens!

Excellent ad. Now try one contradicting McCain's ad claiming you will raise taxes on workers, such as John McCain says Barack Obama will raise taxes on working Americans. John McCain's plan has no tax cuts for working Americans. He will follow George Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and corporations. Barack Obama will cut taxes for 95% of Americans.

I'd also love to see a serious ad on foreign policy, shoot from the hip McCain or diplomacy Obama. No one mentions that Russia's actions in Georgia and its sabre-rattling may, just may, have

Think about it, Alaska a state of 700,000 people and with all the oil they have is a mini saudi arabia. A governor does not have to be a genious to run that state. Just let the oil speak for itself. Alaska is so remote from other states therefore the state does not have to deal with problems that other major states face. Now , if Palin was Gov of california, newyork, etc and balanced the budget and run surplusses then i may be willing to give her the benefit of doubt. In my area, the concern over raising taxes is more important than any other issue.

Most of my neighbors think along those lines, and it is due to the ads played here during the Olympics, backed up by a long history of Republicans using that as the mantra. It hit home to a population very nervous about it. With middle class salaries flattening, the thought of losing more in taxes scares them.

They hear the health care etc, and all they see is another government bail out plan, like Medicare, needing zillions in taxes. My kids come home from school and spout what their friends tell them their parents say, and it is the same thing: Obama is great, but he will raise our taxes. They haven't bought Obama's plan yet.

I have preached and preached, but they need more from him. If we could debunk that effectively in this area, then I think we have a great chance to win NC.

McCain was wrong about the Iraq war, its implications for America and world, its possible duration and end game. Bush and Cheney, his White House buddies, emptied the treasury and bled Americans dry to get the "victory" he now claims as his. On Palin, many questions remain. The more McCain claims he vetted her well, the more determined the press would be to prove otherwise. McCain's choice and campaign tactics put McCain first (self-interest), not "country first" (public service). Consider the following. Did McCain choose Sarah Palin, a woman with no foreign policy and security experience, as a running mate as a joke on the country he says he love? Perhas not. But he did so out of a primordial desire to win at all cost. In effect, McCain chose expediency, self-interest and short-term gain over principle and, above all, country! There are women in the Republican Party who have the requisite national security and foreign policy experience—K. Baily Huchinson, for example. Cindy MCCain tells us that Palin has national security experience because Alaska is near Russia. Beyond all obvious reasons, there is no doubt in my mind that Republicans, though they may not openly admit it, may want to focus this campaign on race, not competence and issues. What they intuitively want the country to see is a young black man pitted against a young white woman, with all the stereotypes it still conjours up in the South and rural America! In Palin's pick, McCain and his more arcane operators may have indeed wanted to introduce race into the mix, in code. That is what McCain has become, not a maverick again. Is this part of the new McCain, one more willing to compromise on principle for immediate personal gain?. Has McCain become a prisoner of radical conversative politics of division? Palin, for sure, is negatively uncompromising on issues of climate change (Palin said climate change is not man-made), abortion rights of women, gun control (Palin is a gun-totting, life-long member of the NRA), creationism vs. evolution, Sureme Court appointments to further right wing agenda, offshore and arctic drilling, and more. Why did McCain find her so compelling? And remember that Palin is currently under invetsigation for abuse of power! And Behind McCain’s bravado is the determination to expoit what Prof. Semour Lipset characterized as “working class authoritarianism” to his best advantage.

That 'Same Ad' is a keeper. I laughed out loud. From the jaunty musical tempo underscoring the cavalier, out-of-touch Bush/McCain attitude, to that spot of John McCain bragging about voting with Bush 90% of time, it was perfect! Right out of the horse's mouth perfect!

A new CNN poll done Friday thru Sunday shows that the majority of those polled now say McCain's policies would be the same as Bush's. This ad will just keep driving the point home. Good work.

I continue to see these damaging McCain ads against Obama on CNN. When am I going to start seeing ads on CNN attacking McCain? I think he needs to hit back harder with these campaign ads. McCain doesn't have a problem with going negative and being nasty with his ads. The polls are too close to continue to allow McCain to run these damaging untruth ads. Start to hit back harder! Today, the McCain campaign announced that they have retained former top advisors to President Bush to 'teach' Gov. Palin all about foreign policy. Geez. How could McCain distance himself from Bush while using Bush's foreign relation policy-makers as the teachers of his newly selected VP.

Expoliting this news would surely strenthen the argument that McSame is truly trying to perpetuate the failed policies of the Bush administration.

Imagine, Gov. Palin learning everything she knows about foreign policy from Bush and company. What a scary thought.

I'm very offended by Carly Fiorina's charges of sexism by Senators Obama and Biden against Gov. Palin. It is not their responsibility to defend Gov. Palin. It is Sen. McCain's, his campaign's and Gov. Palin's jobs to defend her candidacy. They should own their decisions - afterall he offered her the job and she accepted with "full knowledge" of her family dramas. I sympathize with Gov. Palin's pregnant 17-year old daughter. I used to have some respect for Carly...Sen. McCain would have had a stronger ticket if he selected her or Meg Whitman as a running mate. Carly (even though she is the former CEO of HP) should be made to substantiate her claims of sexism by indicating what part of Sen. Obama's factual comparison of his experience with Gov. Palin's is sexist. Claiming sexism does not make it so. Where are all the prominent Democratic women to discredit this ridiculous claims? If the Obama campaign doesn't challenge these claims aggressively, it may come back to haunt it as these unsubstantiated claims may take hold in the minds of the electorate.

As a lay person, while I think it is fine to link McCain to Bush, I do think it is important for voters to also consider John McCain's judgement/decision making to be president in 2009. I don' think he is the McCain of 2000. I don't think we can rely on remote biography. I am concerned about recent issues of judgement/decision making/confusion and comments he has made.

I think everyone honors his service and he is a decent man, but:
1. He required Joe Lieberman to intervene at a press conference in Aman Jordan when he became confused about Sunni and Shia and who was fighting who.
2. He became confused about geography in the Middle east recently
3. He was asked recently how many houses he owned and he couldn't remember.
4. He chose his running mate, reportedly after meeting her briefly once or twice, with a hasty vetting process.

Barack Obama offers steady, clear, well thought out decision making and leadership. Just look at the way he has lead his campaign, and selected his running mate.
