Dorothy Unruh of Lakewood, Colorado has been chosen as the first guest in our latest dinner with Barack.
The Denver Post contacted her yesterday:
"I'm really surprised and excited," said Unruh, who just recently changed her party registration from Republican to Democrat in order to vote for Obama in the state caucus. "I'm really disenchanted with the Republican Party. I want to turn the page."
Dorothy, 68, is one of many Republicans I've spoken to in the last several months who switched parties in order to support Barack.
"I think he can restore our image in the rest of the world," Dorothy told me yesterday. "We have lost so much of our stature-- we used to be the good guys."
She remembers what it was like when she was a girl during World War II:
I remember the patriotism. It was wonderful, everyone was participating. My grandmother would go every week to the church, and help roll bandages made out of sheets. She’d save her bacon grease. Everyone was working to help with the effort. I want to see that kind of unity again, and I think Senator Obama can help bring that back.
Want to join Dorothy and Barack for dinner? It's not too late to participate-- you've got till 11:59pm tonight. Click here.
