I am so excited about Barack Obama I sent another $5 to his campaign today and I am going to an environmental awareness event this Sunday, November 4th, and while it is not a Barack Obama event, I am going to wear the Obama campaign button I just got to see peoples' reactions.I am so excited about this campaign and this is the first time I have ever been involved in any campaign in my entire life. I am an avid Chicago Bears fan and I have always loved the underdog, and while I am a pretty shy layed back person, I am determined to help Barack financially and in any way that an average American can.Posted below are details of the environmental event....
Green Up! Step It UP rally in South Bend, Indiana
November 4th, 2007, 3-5 pm
Green Up! Step It Up! will take place Sunday afternoon November 4 when students, faculty and staff from three colleges/universities come together with the Michiana community, members of local Green organizations, and government officials at the Jon Hunt Plaza in front of the Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend, Indiana.
The event will begin about 3 p.m. when a group from Indiana University-South Bend and a group from the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary's College starts walking -- each from their respective campuses -- toward downtown South Bend where they will converge, joining rallyers from various Green groups, political representatives, government officials and concerned citizens.
The march from the Indiana University-South Bend campus will begin at the Peace Pole located in front of the Schurz Library and will continue along the river walk path to the Jon Hunt Plaza in front fo the Morris Performing Arts Center. The march from University of Notre Dame will begin at the main circle adjacent to the Law School and Alumni Hall on the Notre Dame campus and will walk to Morris Performing Arts Center.
This is part of a national Step It Up - One Sky movement to combat global warming by calling for a reduction of carbon emissions, a moratorium on new coal-fired plants and the creation of Green jobs and initiatives in hundreds of communities from Florida to Alaska this same weekend.

There are so many questions I would like to ask, but so little time. How do you find out about Obama Meet up groups in your area? For example, I live in South Bend, Indiana.I don't think there is a Obama Meet up group formed yet for South Bend, Indiana. Thanks.

Thanks alot, Carol, I found a Obama meeting in Goshen, Indiana, the heart of Republican country which is the county east of Saint Joseph County where I live. I talk to alot of Mennonites at the Dunkin Donuts there in Goshen and they are generally pretty politically conservative, but are very interesting because they do alot of worldwide missionary work. Can someone who knows something about makeup answer this question?:
In the debate the other night, what is up with Hillary's face? She is 60-years-old and looks like a doll face. It looks very unreal. The image gives me the willies...(no pun intended) of a kabuki dancer glaring at Obama or Edwards.
I know that women of power have to look the part and wear power outfits and dress up more than the average woman but why the wierd, stretched look? I know that Nancy Peolosi and Condi have much the same shiny, plastic faces.
I noticed that Barack looked very groomed as well but he looked natural. Why do women have to look so frankly, sexual with all that makeup or botox or whatever it is and men can look themselves?

This is a blog... outside of inflammatory or vile language, anything goes. Unless yo prefer a more totalitarian crimped style of blogging.
But after reviewing the videos quite a few times, what stands out is the sheer amount of makeup and pulled skin that women must endure to compete with men. Most women in America don't look like that. Its unnatural just like bustles and cinched corsets. I wish women in power could look more natural.

Kim - interesting observation, because I thought Hillary looked rather haggard the few times I was able to glance at her. Not surprising considering what a disastrous night she had.
I suppose at that age, though, much depends on the camera angle. You can look either very refreshed or very worn out and it really shows.
I really like how she dresses (recently, that is, not in the past)- and I loved her necklace. She looks great in every colour. I am a brunette and I always envy the way blondes look good in just about everything.
Contrary to what John Edwards said, I thought the coral jacket she wore in the first or second debate looked good. Not a terribly original design, but the colour was lovely.
Speaking of which I find Michelle incredibly chic; a 2007 Jackie Kennedy. She and Barack really make a handsome couple.
I don't think this talk is sexist at all. What is wrong with being feminine? It may be boring to you men, though, so I will stop. I wouldn't necessarily chime in on a discussion about ties. :)

Well, if we think of ourselves as Democrats first, and some of us do, we need to find someone who can win the general election. It's noble to pretend that appearances don't matter. I'm even uncomfortable addressing it right now. But we do know that there are a lot of very petty reasons for some of the votes out there and going with a candidate who isn't at least generally appealing is a risky proposition.
There are so many unspoken sides to this issue in regards to Hillary. Simply put, misogyny is quite rampant in our society and it's easy to get away with. I would love to have a woman as president (a different woman!) in part to counter that. But at the same time, Hillary's campaign is now blatantly using this to her advantage, posing her as the victim in any circumstance where she is questioned by an opponent. She is being attacked apparently when someone points out that she hasn't answered a question. It seems to have an element of gender to it. She very intentionally framed this with her quip about getting so much attention from all these men. Hardly her type of humor. It was definitely calculated, planned and written.
Just to talk about general appearance, here is a little tale. I had the debate on Tivo yesterday with my three year old daughter on the couch. I started showing her clips of the various candidates and asking her what she thought and how she felt. Not leading the questions but just sweetly asking. She liked Barack, but to be fair, she actually recognized him too. She talked about being happy when he was on. When Hillary came up I very intentionally kept any negativity out of my voice and asked her sweetly, "What do you think honey?" just as I had with other candidates. She got uncomfortable and talked around it. Eventually I realized she knows she's not supposed to say mean things about people, but she didn't like looking at Hillary. It was kind of a strong reaction.
Ok, it's a petty experiment but I know my intuitive little girl. Maybe it's totally unfair because Hillary was the only woman and it seemed weird. But my wife is a strong, smart career woman so I was genuinely surprised by her reaction. I do think Hillary does just rub many people the wrong way.

Look, I wasn't trying to be mean to Kim. I agree that we, women, should celebrate our natural beauty! I'm a girly girl, so I do wear makeup and I do like clothes and shoes, etc. I'm a feminist, but I love being feminine, so I don't see a problem with it. But I do agree that we shouldn't be obsessed with perfection.
I just noticed that a few people have made some sexist remarks about Hillary lately, and I am just trying to avoid that because not only is it irrelevant, it can give the wrong impression and turn off a newbie. I'm not saying that Kim's remark was necessarily sexist, just irrelevant. But it's a free blog.
I don't like Hillary at all, but I will get upset if someone makes a sexist remark about her. We should judge a person by their actions, not by their appearance or gender. I was really mad when the media started making a big deal about Hillary showing cleavage a while back. I thought that was really sexist and idiotic. So I agree with Athena (I remember you mentioned this before).

Leila, for what it's worth, I agreed with your comment. One of the reasons Barack is so appealing is that who he is on the inside shines through when you see him and hear him speak. That's what matters to me. I think that who HIllary is on the inside also shines through, with not so good results.
As a candidate for president, I could care less what suit she wears or whether she wears too much makeup. I was appalled in 2004 when they started talking about whether John Kerry had used botox. This year it seems even worse because it's much clearer, to me anyway, that nothing less than our democracy is at stake in this election.

At this moment in history, anyone with any outlook, any face color and look, any gender, any background that has the ability to stop this dangerous situation is really needed.

Then he let's it go and is HIMSELF ! It is a tough road for all of them, but Hillary has been told by Bill I guess to smile, bob her head, speak about "we did" and deflect to Bush anytime challenged. It dawned on me the other day, and I find it interesting, that Obama seems like the kind of person even as President that if I met him in person, I'd feel like calling him by his first name, "Barack" - not Mr. Obama, or Mr. President.
I certainly don't mean any disrespect, but even though I have far, far more respect for him than any other politician, "Mr. President" just doesn't sound or feel quite right. As a U.S. citizen, I'd do whatever he asks of me, but at the same time, he just seems like a guy who'd be your pal. You know what I mean?

I believed I called him Barack but I was so emotional because of the excitement in the atmosphere-literally everybody was going crazy. But if I find him in a serious setting I would not call him just "BaracK" and definitely when you become the POTUS then you are elevated to even a higher level. When that time comes I won't address him other than "Mr. President" and I can't wait for that day to arrive. The fact he connects easily with the common man shouldn't make him less respected and "Mr President" is a show of the ultimate respect for someone who makes the achievment of getting the highest office in the land.

Her expressions are what are really alarming especially when someone is confronting her - she looks ready to destroy. Or the defensive smirk that makes her look like The Joker from Batman (Richardson has the expression problem too - he looks like he is always constipated). These things sound petty but they do matter in that our facial expressions many times are a reflection of who we are as a person. Anyway, she is absolutely awful in every way. As the WSJ put it today
"The political strategy is clear enough. Mrs. Clinton wants to roll to her party's nomination on a tide of "inevitability" while disguising her real agenda as much as possible. But Democratic voters ought to consider whether they want to put all their hopes for retaking the White House on Mrs. Clinton's ability to obfuscate like her husband without his preternatural talent for it. Aside from lacking her husband's political gifts, Hillary's challenge is that we've all seen this movie before. And performances like Tuesday's might be enough to convince voters to opt for a candidate who is his own man."

When Barack Obama is talking about a war that should have never been authorized and should never have been waged, he is not smiling.
When Barack is talking about Iran, he is not smiling.
But when Barack is interacting with people, or if someone says something he thinks is funny, that beautiful smile comes out and the light that is Barack comes shining through. That's why I love to watch Barack shake hands and talk to people after a rally.

I seek opinions on the issue of sexual orientation and congressmen.
I do not think sexual orientation should be a consideration in choosing a person to vote for. After all, a gay man or a lesbian can do just as good a job as their heterosexual counterparts.
What I don't like, however, is when congressmen hide their sexuality, and play the fool when they're exposed. This is the case with three Republican congressmen, most notably Idaho senator Larry Craig. I still accept them as leaders, even if they choose to come out of the closet, but lying is unacceptable from men and women trusted with power. Believe me: power is only good if used properly and with moderation.
My point is: I like gay politicians, but not liars. I get more than enough lies from Bush and Cheney alone. To me, Republicans are, amongst other things, a pack of liars who believe their own deceptions.

Just received a recorded call from our state's Attorney General, Tom Miller (who endorses Barack) letting us know that the official Democratic caucus date is January 3rd and people should plan on on arriving at 6:30pm.
He went on to say that once precinct locations were determined, people would be getting another call to let them know where to be.
Just another example of the GREAT organizing and groundwork taking place here which I wanted to share with you all...

MBKJ,
That's great news! People really need reminders. If only all of the states did this!
I really hope that turnout in Iowa is historic. The level of voter apathy in America (only about half of eligible ovters go to the polls for the general election) is shocking. After all the blood our ancestors shed for the Revolution, too.

And considering the, oh, let's call them "tactics" of the competition, I would even verify the time from a second and third party (website or Voter Registration or similar in phone book.)

I saw Colbert's show when he was filling out the document on-air. He did not sound serious based on the things he said that he was writing. I hope that it was just a publicity stunt by him. If not, he just might have become a 'spoiler'(then either losing candidates' supporters would despise him).

I would imagine he knew that, and I would also imagine he will still get write-in votes no matter whether he is on the ballot or not; nature of the beast and a sign of the frustration with politics. Let's keep our focus on the idea that EVERY vote for Obama is a vote for politics of change!

David Shuster is a very evil man. This issue is the one that will stick like glue to this woman. This is why Shuster bought it up. Now, he just gave Senator Obama an opening, if he has "papers" that he and the next 1st Lady have written on policy, he can release them. How would that look? hmmmmmmmmmmm Sometimes they just open the door and you can walk right on in.
Its a stupid comparison do you think Shuster realized it before he said it?

Shuster is on my list of media in HRC's pocket.
Olbermann,Shuster,Craig Crawford,Bill Press are all on that list.. I have heard Press say he wanted obama to do well but has done nothing but rip on him..said he has not taken on HRC and then after the debate said HRC was treated unfairly.. another conventional wisdom syncophant.
KO is an HRC cheerleader who belittles obama at every opportunity.. with crawford his favorite foil. AB Stoddard of the Hill is another witch.
I am making a list... and the crow they eat in Jan. will be delightful for me.

For those of you who still have not heard:
There is a WONDERFUL and INSPIRING music video on youtube.com entitled 'Obama Portrait'.
In South Carolina we are starting to use the free downloaded high-quality stereo version from the composer's website in DVD form to show at house parties. Even people who knew nothing at all about Obama have been moved. The music soundtrack, which incorporates excerpts from the famous 2004 speech, can also be downloaded separately in high-quality.
Please SPREAD THE WORD to everyone possible about the importance of viewing the 'Obama Portrait' on youtube: the more views, the more likely it will catch the attention of the media and thus be able to spread more broadly in the country to inspire many more people.
It is an uplifting and informative campaign tool - again, please SPREAD THE WORD!

A few minutes ago, CNN just talked about Peter Paul's Hillary Uncensored Video and the fact that it has been viewed almost one million seven hundred thousand times.
I was a little surprised, first because it was CNN reporting but also because the video states that it was banned on Mainstream Media.
Here's the link if you haven't seen it yet, I am not sure what to make of this, one just hopes it isn't true.

Its true all right. You should go to youtube and type in "Peter Paul". There are alot of videos about this story that come up and most of them are hard to deny. I don't think the story will go anywhere though.
November is going to be a bad month for Hillary politically. There are three recent scandals I know of that haven't even come out yet.

It seems since scandals are always revolving around the Clintons no one pays attention. And since charges have never stuck against the Clintons personally they can then say "see how I've fought and won".
It's like the more scandals there are, the stronger those two become.
Speaking of Peter Paul, the one judge from California was appointed by Bill Clinton and he ruled that the tape cannot be used in court.

I am not talking about diehard Clinton supporters or bogus poll numbers. I am referring to the hurt that has happened to the Dem party since the 90's. My party(Dems) lost a lot of ppl(now Ind. and Repub) and congress because of this kind of stuff. The 90's were a mixed bag. B Clinton was impeached(some Dems did vote for his impeachment). That(impeachment) is a permanent record in history. The history books will not be reporting contemporary feelings of the populous. The loss of congress and Dem voters happened back then too. Like I said on previous blogs, I am not interested in playing defense for the Clintons anymore(did that in the 90's).
This is part of many reasons why I find B Obama so appealling. I, too, am tired of the bickering. No redux.

I keep asking myself, "Why do I continue to watch Hardball?" Chris Matthews actually had a fairly decent segment with some woman and Chuck Todd, when at the end they talked about the MSNBC poll after the debate, and Chris said that Obama had won the poll. Chuck Todd as much as said that it was from all the Obama youngsters text messaging. I guess if Hillary doesn't win the poll it is worthless. Yikes!!

Do "youngsters" votes not count? Why have a poll then?
I know, we'll set up a poll and if we like the results, we'll say "told you so" and if we don't like the results, then we'll say, "the poll is not accurate."
Chuck Todd. Isn't he that clown who had the article about how it really wasn't such a political risk for Obama to oppose the war? That article made me furious. So now, according to Chuck, not only does Barack have to be smarter (not to mention right), it has to be a "heavy risk" to make it legitimate.

The MSM seem to only want a "story", they want to be able to talk constantly about their version of the way things should be. After being so pro Hillary, they are now giving Obama a little room in their narrow-thinking brains. It is scary that they are shaping public opinion about the next President of the United States with no thought as to who actually will run the country well; even scarier are the people who listen only to the pundits, to pick their candidate. I cannot wait to go to Iowa on Saturday and talk to real people.

You just can't trust much of what they say. They are always looking for an "angle" on a story.

Hillary's behind-the-scenes slime machine |

Remember how we learned from a Washington Post article that it was Hillary's campaign that spread a HuffPo article about McClurkin at the gospel tour to all the news outlets?
Well, thanks to Salon.com, what we've suspected all along, and now know for a fact, this was hardly an isolated incident. It seems the Hillary campaign goes out of it's way to send possible damaging articles about her opponents to all the news outlets regularly. And as Salon.com readily states, they've never once had the Obama or Edwards campaign do the same.
If you thought Bill Clinton strongarming GQ into not running a negative piece on Hillary was a good indicator of how they work behind the scenes, here is some more.
This woman has the audacity to have her campaign whine about being 'piled on' at the debate, while she and her attack dogs have been secretly sliming her opponents in about the most cowardly and unprincipled way. The woman who proudly proclaimed at the debate, 'you shouldn't always tell people what you're thinking' and who hides the record of her so-called experience until 2012, is once again revealed to be as secretive and conniving and underhanded as our present commander in corruption.
Here's the article. Kudos to Salon.com. Funny no other news outlet has seen fit to let on about the shady behind the scenes smearing by the Clinton campaign.

This whole thing is outrageous. Hillary playing down and dirty and then whining when she is finally called to task.
About a week ago, I read in The Politico that Obama had made some statements (some foreign policy issue - the war, I think) to the Israeli daily Haaretz. The Clinton campaign, interpreting his remarks as suggesting that he was flip-flopping, distributed six or seven copies of the article to media outlets in the States.
But the "charge" of flip-flopping was so spurious that not even the MSM "bought" the story.
Yet she will keep trying, I'm sure. Until the bitter end.

Who started the "is he black enough/fear' crap to influence black vote?
Who gave that McClurkin thing 'legs' after her husband tried to prevent the gospel tour from taking place?
Who is insulting women and men with this 'woe is me' crap after that bad performance in this last debate?
Women have been trying for decades to be treated equally/taking responsibility/picking up the pieces/running on their own merit, etc. Now this latest whining about pile-on is ridiculous and should be insulting to women. IMO, this is also a turn-off to men.
As I have stated before, she is working on insulting each voter a day at a time. Starting with that dreadful debate performance at YK/Iowa incidents mentioned in previous posts/last debate/and now this anti-woman, non-presidential whining. God help us all get through this nightmare candidacy of hers.

I thought Barack's answers were fine (as usual) but the way the segment was put together (framed) and the short running time made it seem kind of weak. And the focus was mainly on his race and Barack not having a father.
I also felt that Charles Gibson's demeanor was EXTREMELY off-putting with each question he asked.
It was kind of a bummer.
Hopefully when Barack is on Meet The Press he'll get a broader series of questions.
But Barack did well under the circumstances. He was charismatic when responding to Gibson's comments on his "hubris" in wanting to be President, and honest about his college days without even flinching. Barack's sincerity is consistently compelling and admirable.

I must be hopelessly sentimental because tears welled in my eyes when I heard him speak about his father and how, nowadays, it was not the father, but his young girls who were the reason he was aiming high. (I only saw the short version - I got home from work too late.)
It was a nice personal snapshot. I confess that I have not read Barack's books (I know, shame on me!), so this was a nice close-up view. I had never seen him so human.
Unfortunately, the MSM always concentrates on dross and piffle and no substance. However, I found this substantial in an emotional way because it spoke to what moved HIM and inspired HIM (the main reason he stated, obviously, was because he thought he could provide the right leadership) as a hjuman being and as a presidential candidate.

Mathew,
not to worry, this is actually stuff that an average viewer remembers more than fine policy nuances. Barack comes across like the most genuine human being and that makes him very endearing and likable. He is always calm and friendly, even if questions are unfair or unpleasant. That says volumes and often is more convincing than the most eloquent political ads. I've been voting in many elections (I'm in my 50-ties :-) and I'm always surprised how seemingly "unimportant" things matter. This is what he needs to do - mainstream TV, interviews and talk shows and his people need to hit the TV circuit as well. Many people don't blog or read papers daily, but they sure watch lots of TV.
The Gender Card |
Report to Admin
By
Luevonia "Hussein" Williams
Nov 1st 2007 at 9:36 pm EDT
As a woman, I find it appalling that Hillary Clinton would try to use the Gender Card, to help her maintain her status as the front runner after she bombed at the debate the other night. I mean, Tim Russert just asked her questions about her policy positions, just like he did with every candidate that he questioned at the debate. Her suggesting that she is being picked on just because she is a woman in a crowded field of men is not appropriate. Women running for office have to answer questions just like the men.
Some of her supporters say that because they think that she is being picked on because she is a woman, women in Iowa and the other early states (as well as women in later voting states), will rally to her side and support her. They also point out that women make up half of the population in America. But, I say that women in the past have not voted as one voting block. Also, of those 50% women, some are African-American women, Hispanic-American women, Asian-American women, Native-American women, young women under-30 who may like the idea of a candidate from a younger generation (Barack), early middle-aged women in their 40s who are just as likely to vote for Obama because he is in their age group, women over 65 who may have trouble with the idea of the Clintons in office again, women from the south who tend to vote the same way as their men do, women from the mid-west who may think that she lacks candor, not to mention some white women who support (or are willing to support) candidates like Barack Obama, John Edwards, and Bill Richardson. So, they shouldn't rely on most women supporting Hillary just because she is a woman, or because she is playing the Gender Card and claiming to be a victim of male wrath.
Women, just like men, want a candidate that is willing to answer the tough questions about the issues, demonstrates candor, caring, knowledge, leadership ability, that can help bridge the divide in America (and the world), and will not cause this country problems.
She needs to explain in detail, how she plans to do all of that, instead of playing the victim everytime someone asks her a tough question.

I agree, to play gender card is actually offensive to any woman with self respect... unfortunately, Clinton campaign is very skillful in making women feel guilty by not supporting another woman and it is up to us to be very vocal about this and expose this manipulation. It really should be done on grass roots level, because many women are too busy and quite uninformed about the real issues and real intentions of Clinton campaign.
