New Hampshire
Despite sixteen days of attacks, Barack Obama continues to stay strong in Iowa and is rapidly gaining in New Hampshire. Two recent polls indicate that Barack Obama is gaining in on Clinton, shrinking her once double-digit lead in New Hampshire to a seven point margin.
Today,
Rasmussen released a poll
of likely primary voters in New Hampshire which found Hillary Clinton at 33%, Obama at 26%, and Edwards at 15%.
And on November 30th, a
Fox News poll
of likely New Hampshire Democratic voters showed Clinton at 30% followed by Obama at 23% and Edwards at 17%. Also notable in the Fox News poll: more voters said they would be very or somewhat satisfied with Obama (74%) as the Democratic presidential nominee than with Clinton (69%) as the nominee.
While rival campaigns increase the attacks, voters in the critical early states increasingly agree that Barack Obama is the candidate with the honesty, integrity, and vision to bring about fundamental change in Washington -- change we can believe in.

Some for the first time some have been following barack on his website and tv. If he is doing well in Iowa like he is doing in Newhempshire then come January we are in to win this race. Cann't wait

What wonderful, wonderful news!
The polls hava value in themselves, but they also have a larger significance in that he can be seen, around the country, as a more VIABLE candidate, and those who are undecided would more likely feel that their vote for him would not be wasted.
If Our Candidate were still 20 points behind, I think more people would be likely to choose Hillary. People are silly that way - so many are followers rather than independent thinkers. But Barack's momentum will have a snowball effect that may get these people to change their minds.
The sad but incontrovertible truth is that, in order to win this election, we need the fool's vote too - the vote of the person more interested in picking "a winner" than the candidate of their hearts.
May these polls serve to persuade them!
I think they will.

Fritz, I second Sam and welcome you to the blogs! You are one of many Republicans here who also never thought they would end up supporting a democrat. This shows how truly extraordinary Obama is.
You may be interested to know that a little (non-scientific) poll I conducted a few weeks ago of our online community showed that those of us who support Obama cover just about the entire political spectrum.

That's Hillary's problem, according to the people I'm talking to. She's not.
They think she is more 'beatable' by a Republican than Obama, and just the thought of that...!
(Apparently the M/M Bush think so too, considering how nice they were to her in a recent interview.)

Good day to you all.
Just wanted to give info on what is happening "across the aisle". Both bits come from CNN.com
Rudy Giuliani believes that "stepping up" military numbers will keep Russian president Vladimir Putin at bay. Ironically, Bush's wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have killed virtually all war enthusiasts, and the treasury is all but drained. I personally fear lots from the Republicans. To me, many of them would seek military action as solutions to problems where diplomacy would work equally well. Needless to say, I will never support Giuliani for president.
In other news, Republican Mitt Romney continues to blast the media for coverage concerning abortion. I think this highly-controversial issue is best left out of politics. Really, abortion should not concern anybody outside of the family unit, as abortion is a consideration for the family alone. The woman, not the government or the law, should have the final say in ending a premature life.
Finally, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has threatened to cut off oil shipments to the US if he is re-elected tomorrow. As we know, his government is radical, and he proposes amendments such as his ability to have no term limits(provided he is re-elected in each election). This may or may not be a major blow, as 15% of American oil imports come from Venezuela. I can, unfortunately, foresee what the shrub's course of action will be. I assume you can, too.
Thank God for Barack Obama and his steadfast leadership. Thank God for the snowstorm keeping HRC and Mitt Romney out of Iowa. Thank God not all politicians are vengeful.
Let there be peace on earth!!!

I am tired of foriegn countries threating us with thier oil. We have over 100,000 capped oil wells in this country that could be put into production quickly. Our great Oil companies do not want this to happen because that would create a surplus of oil and lower the prices. OMG that would lower thier profits. I must be a Communist to have a thought like that.
Maybe they should try eating or drinking thier oil. I know that we trade with alot of those same countries and they export more than Oil to us. Maybe we should put a tarriff on thier goods they send us to help pay for thier Oil.
Maybe we should Nationlize the Oil Industry as a homeland security act?? LOL wouldn't that just get the Republicans. After all it is in our National Defense interest to do so. That way we could set a limit of 5% for the companies, eliminate bonuses and pay workers a fair wage and benefits.
We need to take Crude Oil out of the Commodities Market all that does is add a third party and jack up prices. Seems pretty evident to me.
Our Constitution guarantees rights and benefits to US Citizens and it should be inforced. The Constitution forbades any law that is against the US Citizen. Let me make this perfectly clear all my grandparents were Immigrants and so was my father, but they came here legally and meet all the requirements to become Citizens. Learning English was a requirement. I think that it is against the law not to enforce our Immigration laws and those people who don't do thier jobs should be fired and prosecuted.

A tactic of those who want to destroy any social programs, is to:
1. Use fear to start up a war
2. Use the war to run up spending
3. Use the spending to create a huge deficit
4. Cut social programs to reduce the deficit
It's been done before and it's happening again. These ideologues will attack Barack for all his "wild spending" when in reality, it's the enormous military machine that takes the bulk of this government's money.
On Chavez, I think the guy's a little looney, but I don't trust all the news about him. Our government and press don't like him because he is a socialist and has taken the country's natural resources away from the private sector. So he's trying to feed a poor population at the expense of the rich. Apparently his proposal for unlimited presidential terms did not pass. It will be a test of his character to see if he abides by that.
Seems like either socialism or capitalism, if left unchecked, will eventually cause a harsh reaction back in the other direction. I think that's what's been happening there.
But I really can't see why we have any reason to "hate" or "fear" him.

Here in Iowa, when the caucus got moved up to the 3rd, it meant that college kids from out of state who are eligible to caucus would still be gone on vacation. It's a shame for the whole process because the excitement of the caucus is great for bringing kids in and registering Democrat for the first time in their lives.
Here in Iowa City, the Obama campaign responded by offering those kids help both in getting back to Iowa before winter break ends and helping them find a place to stay until the dorms open. In an effort to make Obama look bad, Chris Dodd's campaign has made some outrageous statements about Barack's campaign 'gaming the system' by bringing people in from out of state. Essentially accusing the campaign of cheating. These are kids who are taking part in the process for the first time and they're registering Democrat and they're willing to end their vacation early to do it.
Now Clinton's campaign has joined in the cynicism.
"We are not courting out-of-staters. The Iowa caucus ought to be for Iowans."
In fact this statement it is a flat-out lie. They are courting the college kids here just as much as anyone. But because Obama has the enthusiastic supporters willing to come and help at the caucus, her campaign is trying to confuse people and discourage participation by people legally allowed to caucucs. They think they can get away with this cynical ploy because people don't understand the system enough to see through what they are saying. It's up to us to spread the word that the Clinton campaign would be willing to criticize these kids who might become lifetime Democrats because they happen to support a different campaign.
It is showing up on the blogs a little already. Here is one on dailykos.
Link
As an Iowa Democrat I am deeply offended by these statements and this cynical ploy. There must be enough noise about this that both Clinton and Dodd should be made to apologize.

What are people so upset about? When my son attended a college in Washington State, he voted there. Was he supposed to travel all the way back to AK to vote? So if you were not born in Iowa you shouldn't be able to caucas? That is ridiculous.
So Clinton and Dodd are trying to take away the votes from these students?

My comments include stating that this shows that Obama is a leader. What candidate does not want to get its legal voters to the polls.
Tomorrow Dodd and Clinton and others will follow Obama's lead and move to ensure that their out-of-state college student supporters get to the polls.
Will the MSM criticize Dodd and Clinton for this? Will them emphasis the leadership of Obama and that Dodd and Clinton and others are following Obama's lead in ensuring that legal voters are ensured the right to vote? Or will the story of Dodd and Clinton and others working to get their supporters to the poll be buried so that only a negative-slanted story about Obama is reported?
Obama is leading the way and Clinton is simply going to follow.

This is a ridiculous issue:
This was posted on Yepsen's blog:
joejoejoe wrote: It's Iowa state law that allows out-of-state college students to caucus in Iowa. It's not any loophole either - the Iowa SOS website has it's own heading on the very topic. From the Iowa SOS website: NON-IOWA Resident Attending College IN Iowa If you are from another state (i.e. Illinois) and are attending college in Iowa (i.e. Iowa State University), you may register to vote in: * your Iowa college town or * your home state (hometown) and vote absentee
Link
If this was really "bad" why would the secretary of state include in on their website? if the caucus date hadn't been moved, this would be a non issue.
I'm disgusted how ppl are trying to make it seem like Barack is "recruiting" ppl from Illinois and elsewhere. That's so ridiculous and they know it. He has become the frontrunner and so I guess we should expect this nonsense.

I like Yepsen. I think he's a decent journalist. But this kind of sloppy reporting is why journalists are sinking the opinion of most Americans almost as badly as politicians.
Before he placed this information on his blog or in his column, he (or someone from the paper's staff) should have checked to determine whether this action was in fact permissible under Iowa law. If it is, maybe the column should have about whether the law should be changed. Nonetheless, Obama is following both long-standing tradition, as well as Iowa law, in educating voters (in-state and out-of-state) how they can participate in the process if they choose to do so.
If he didn't want to write a column to this effect, he should have kept his proverbial pen silent.

I agree because most students won't be in their home state to vote on February 5th and they deserve to have a voice. Some may not be able to work out the absentee voting either. And in the college precints more Caucus voters doesn't mean more delegates because of the apportionment. The rural precincts with few Caucus voters have more power per delegate unit.

It is a well known fact that the college student happens to be a very enthusiastic campaign worker and a loyal party member once involved.

The more America knows Obama, the more they like him. Our movement is gaining strength, and the obstruction of fear is beginning to subside. We have justice, intelligence, and hope on our side. We have the American Dream on our side. America has raised the bar, and we are ready to beat the rest.
Together, we can overcome our differences. We may not all agree with his political ideas, but we all know that, like Lincoln- that other young senator from Illinois- Barack Obama is the only one who can unite America. This isn't about putting one man in power. This isn't about putting a Democrat in power. This is about saving America from the civil war that is partisanship.
This isn't just about one man becoming President; this is about the empowerment of an entire movement. To strive for Obama for President is to fight for freedom, democracy, and American idealism; to strive for real change.
We can succeed, my fellow Americans. We must succeed. The fate of America is in our hands.

However, I have been learning lately about how much we get back even when we only give a little. I figure, if I can be dedicated enough to myself to pay a trainer to help me lose weight, I can be just as dedicated to the future President of the United States.
I can no longer stand by and do nothing, so I'm mixing it up. I'm going to put something into this campaign every time I put something into myself. For every pound I lose on my way to my goal weight (150 lbs), I will donate $5.00 to make sure Barack Obama is elected in November.
Now, $5 dollars x 25 pounds = $125.00. If I can get 9 people to "sponsor" me in this journey, then I will have helped raise $1250.00 for this campaign. Sitting here, getting that much money seems impossible, but I believe in Barack's message. He says to me that one person can change the world...here's my humble part...
**Update: I've already lost 4 lbs. So get in now while the buy-in is cheap *grin*

here is what I think obama should respond to hillary when she claims experience.
well experience is like cholesterol ; you can have good cholesterol and bad cholesterol ;experience without good judgement is nothing but bad cholesterol ; some people who claim experience need to
actually see how much of that experience is actually good cholesterol and how much of it is bad cholesterol ; for examples claiming experience on the war in iraq is bad experience ;
claiming experience on a failed health care is claiming bad experience ; claiming experience
on declaring war in iran is claiming bad experience ; claiming experience on failed foreign policies is claiming bad experience ;bad experience is just like bad cholesterol ; if you have too much of it you wont survive ; we want a leader with a good judgement not a leader bad experience just like we want our leader to be healthy physically and mentally but mostly healthy politically ; clinton has experience true but most of it is just bad cholesterol ; a leader with bad experience just wont be able to lead ( there is no cure for bad experience)

Bush had "experience" when he became president. He was also related to a former president. Look how that's turned out!

Obama is a dreamer just like the rest of us. Obama is truly inspiring. Americans like me are starving for truth and HOPE for our future. Let us keep the passion alive up to the day we make this very possible DREAM a reality.
This is the type of president we all have been dreaming of. This is the type of president we need. I have never met Senitor Obama, however his words and deep passion for the hope of our nation have truly touched my heart. I come from a similar ethnic background as Obama. One parent white and one parent black. I love America. Compassion for all human rights is key. America is full of opportunity for everyone. I am a college educated woman who makes a wonderful living as a fine jewelry designer. As a person with a brain tumor, it is hard to believe that in 2007, people like me, who work over 50 hour a week, get denied health coverage daily due to pre-existing conditions. What has America come to? Why has America forgotten to take care of Americans? We must change. A healthy nation is a happy productive nation. Too many people are suffering needlessly.
Billions in IRAQ but we can't help American's in need? Please help change the corrupt government ideologies. Obama is a special person, the only person with the types of ideals that will benefit every American long term. I was ready to give up on my health because I CAN NOT AFFORD $5,000 MRI's every 4 months. Can you?
BARACK OBAMA is the only man who will rescue and take care of all Americans. Save our future, VOTE BARACK OBAMA FOR AMERICA.
I now see the light at the end of the tunnel. With love and genuine hope,
Cecilia Jane Conn

I am happy to see this. It is very good news but lets not get too confident. I was born and raised in Iowa (I now live in Arizona) so I can tell you that Iowa can change on a dime. It is a very difficult state to predict because of the Caucus system. If Barack would lose Iowa it would be difficult to rebound in New Hampshire. I have told all of my friends that still live in Iowa to vote for him. Lets work hard to elect Barack Obama!

We want the best response possible in Iowa...but I for one will never stop supporting Brrack. It takes more than the early states to win a nomination.

NOW we need everyone in the nearby states of new hampshire to go to NH and help from now until Jan 8th. We need to canvass every day and make calls and get boots on the ground up there. This is how we are going to take the momentum from IOWA and convert it into a SteamRoller in NH

I am so happy Obama is closing in on Hillary in the polls and hope he trounces her. I wonder though with all of her unbelievanbly ridiculous attacks, why he doesn't hit back with one fact:
They are both from Chicago, but HE is the only one between the two that could get elected in his own state. She had to move to NY just in time to run for office there, never spent any seriosu time there before and had her whole life in Illinois and then Arkansas. He should rmeind peopel he can get elected by his friends and neighbors and fellow Illinoisans and she had to find a different state and move there jsut to get an office to springboard to the presidency from!
For her to say today that he Obama has been running since he came to Washington in January 2005 is just beyond ludicrous. No one ever metioned an Obama presidency until after the 2006 elections, and she knows that. She is only projecting her own selfish ambitions and guilty conscience (if she has one) on to the opponents that are eroding her support.
Beat that girl, Barack. Teach her a lesson about teling the truth. Save this country from her regime.

I am actually so glad Obama doesn't use all the stuff he could use against her. He would sound tacky...almost, but not quite as tacky as she does talking about his gradeschool dreams as some sort of unhealthy ambition. [He doesn't need to shame her, she does enough of that on her own.]
She is trying, in an amateur way, to use the old Rove trick of making your enemy's strength your own while making his strength his weakness. She can't quite pull it off and it is not going well for her as a result. Besides, she will never live down four different takes on driver's licenses in one breath, and especially calling those who make over $97,500 "middle class." I hear someone mention that almost every day.

It looks to me like the campaign team has correctly judged the atmosphere in the early states and timed things just right. A few months ago I was so worried that the poll numbers were not moving, even though I had been to NH and personally observed that most people were truly just beginning to pay attention or were not even planning to choose a candidate until very, very late in the process. I confess I was a bit skeptical when I heard we should not expect to see the national polls shift until January. But now it seems clear. Barack Obama is someone who pulls people into a strong gravitational field; the more they know, the more they like and support. Cover of Atlantic magazine AND Time magazine just at the time when people are taking a serious look at the candidates? Wow. Major national figures like Al Gore who said they probably would endorse someone... I suppose that would be "at the right time"... the suspense is now tempered with a strong bond of trust. Breakfast with Bloomberg -- how cool is that? The last few weeks have been like a big wave of positive events and news. We have the momentum. Stay positive, stay creative about ways to give Barack a boost. Talk to family and friends -- check your list; I know I keep discovering people I need to talk to. While other campaigns may think the way to get things is to "fight" for them, I prefer to WORK in a positive way to meet objectives. Proud to be helping Obama '08

This is significant. I have lots of friends who like Obama, but have been waiting silently by because they've become jaded by politics and have felt that Clinton had it locked up due to her connections and money machine.
Wrong-o!
People have really been underestimating the power of Obama's grassroots campaign. I'm so excited about what's happening in these key states!

So proud of Senator Obama, he does give hope to my heart and soul. I think he is peaking at the right time and am encouraged about the movement he is making in the polls. We must all remember to caucas for the Senator and to vote for him, it is so necessary for our nation. Margaret
