I am wondering who to support, Obama or Edwards. After reading the April 07 edition of The American Prospect, I am leaning towards Edwards.

The article, Friendly Takeover by Robert Kuttner (p. 12) talks about Robert Rubin being the most influential voice on economic policy for the Democratic Party. The problem is that Rubin's advice often hurts the Dems both politically and economically...especially the working class.

Rubin's son, Jamie is a major Wall Street fund-raiser for Barack. Robert Rubin's former chief of staff, Karen Kornbluh, is Obama's chief domestic policy adviser and Rubin is close to Obama's chief of staff, Steve Hildebrand.

I'd like to hear what Obama says about Rubinomics and the Hamilton Project which turns out entrist policy papers trying to signal boldness with scant resources.

According to Kuttner, John Edwards "might well reject Rubinomics".

Yep. I was going through the same dilemma before I chose Obama. I supported John Edwards in the Primaries and I campaigned for him. When he lost, I held my nose and voted for Kerry. This time, I did a lot of research and a lot of comparisons because I did not want give it my all unless I really really had faith that the one I pick can do it. I decided on Obama. He's closer to my ideology than Edwards is and he makes sense to me when he talks about issues. I also, don't feel like he's campaigning when he talks. It's like he's half Presidential and half motivational speaker and I like that. He's not just asking for my vote. He's allowing me to respond and I don't get that with other candidate. Obama doesn't dictate, he engages and he makes me feel like I'm not just another vote for him or another dollar he can spend. I feel like , and I think this feeling is shared by all Obama supporters, but I feel like he knows he's talking to real people and he cares about what's going on in our lives.

I whole-heartedly agree with everything you stated. I was one of John Edwards' "earliest" supporters in 2003, when he was polling in the single digits. I was extremely disappointed when he did dropped out of the race in the spring of 2004. He being on the ticket made it a bit easier to support John Kerry, but there was no inspiration behind my vote (other than the desire to not have GW Bush win). There is something different this time. I think John Edwards' "time" was in 2004. 2008 belongs to Sen. Barack Obama and I am proud and excited to be a supporter and Iowa caucus-goer for the next president of the United States, Sen. Barack Obama.

I felt too "iffy" about John trying to run again. It's like....why? I'm a little suspicious. I knew something was up when he wrote the op-ed apologizing for his vote in Iraq, I forgave him because I still had that admiration running over from the elections , but now, I'm like ,that's not enough. Everything is suspect now and I can't wholeheartedly support someone who I am not certain of his motive. Barack Obama was literally forced into this by the people. That means a lot to me. I just think his motives are more pure.

Economic finesse is one of the many reasons, maybe the most important reason, why I support Obama. He's rational and realistic. There's a pervasive naivete when it comes to economic matters amongst many progressives, including elected ones. We desperately need someone who knows what they're doing and can make the tough choices when it comes to economic policy. On the Democratic side, I suggest that that leaves only Obama and Clinton of those presently running. I very much like the other Democrats in the race, but I trust the wise Obama to be a strong president. Times are tough, and he is one powerful man.

Our biggest economic problem in this country is that we spend our taxes on war machinery to keep the military-industrial complex afloat; we're stuck in the first half of the 20th century, left behind by the rest of the civilized world who are investing in health care, a workable safety net, and education. Until we acknowledge and change that, our emphasis on weapons and war, we unfortunately have few economic choices.

Obama is our man. I believe he can lead us into the 21st century.

I haven't heard Obama discuss any high-falutin' economic policies at all. He is a pragmatist, he talks a lot about what government can do and what it can't do. As President, he talks alot about having different priorities - especially from the Bush Administration - that government's main focus is to invest in infrastructure (Technology, alternative energy, schools, medical systems, etc) or the big projects that only a federal government can invest in and helping the most vulnerable of those in society (our elderly, our veterans, our sick.) These are things that have been left unstarted or unfinished since the Reagan Administration because of the philosophy that big government is a bad thing. We've seen how our competitivness has suffered because of this ideology.

Bill Clinton radified NAFTA but forgot about the the other major things (investment in infrastructure) that would make NAFTA less harmful to the U.S. worker. John Edwards seems like a good man who cares about people, but the reason I will vote for Obama is that he isn't tied to a ideolgy or even a world view only

Obama seems to me to have good judgement which separates him from any other candidate. He thinks about policy and votes the way that makes sense to him, and his judgement has been pretty much right on since he has held political office.

I'm not worried in the least about who Obama brings into office with him, I think he will always be his own man in matters of policy, but not stubborn or the 'decider'. He is just a different kind of politician than we've seen in many years.

Did you see the webcast today? He was unbelievably down to earth with an amazing grasp of the issues, and a very simple way of explaining things. No offense to Edwards who I love, but Barack is in his own league. They said Bill Clinton was a policy "wonk"? Obama has it all.

If you heard the webcast today, you'd see that Obama is looking out for the working class.

As an aside, the Edwards website shows that he has received 35,000+ people. I think Obama has more than doubled that and we are still counting. I think this shows that he has a lot more people "invested" in his campaign. That gives this campaign a lot of strength.

But despite the technical difficulties, I was amazed at how he responded about a variety of issues and he did something that you NEVER see other candidates do. Ask for feedback and actually "talk with" the people. I was shocked. It was so different but so Barack Obama. I mean, he told them how he felt about the issue and then asked them what they thought about the issue so it didn't look like he was agreeing with them. It was awesome. I hope , whoever was recording will provide the video so we can watch the whole thing uninterrupted.

You are so right. I feel as though this next election is about US being elected! He really is the only candidate asking US how we want to proceed. I gave my second donation today. I was talking to the computer about what needs to change for teacher's and it's like Barack heard me, he said exactly what I was saying! I hope everyone out there stays on course and votes to get him elected. I have not felt this hopeful or excited about a politician, EVER!!!

By the way I too was having difficulty watching the feed until I switched to my Opera browser. I tried Firefox, IE7 and even opened my Windows Media Player. They all had disruptions. Once I switched to Opera it played with only a few interruptions.

Watching that on the live feed was, while full of technical difficulties, so inspiring! I've never heard a candidate speak so candidly to people in any situation. He never beat around the bush at any instance, his answers were always direct and thoughtful, and the content was so practical. Plus, I learned things from him...like the the statistics about how much Toyota has to pay per car, because of government health care programs, versus how much it costs GM to make a car. It was just such a powerful statement about how big companies are getting hurt as well. I just really appreciated the depth of the conversation.

And it really did feel like a conversation. He actually asked people what they thought about what he was saying and the issues they were talking about, and it was so refreshing. I'm just consistently amazed by this man and what's more I respect him so much.

I really hope the video pops up somewhere so that I can watch it without all the glitches, because I wasn't able to watch it all the way through and I'd love to watch it again and show it to people. I think it could really change a lot of people's minds.

We had about 100 people at our local kickoff here in Boise today! We met at The Connector, a local soul food restaurant, and enjoyed live local jazz and hip hop music before and after the webcast. Three TV crews showed up, along with the local alternative weekly paper.

As others have mentioned, the webcast had its hiccups, so after about 20-25 minutes, we just watched the DVD instead. But between the DVD and web feed, people got a good sense of Obama and the new energy, experience, and intellect he's bringing to this campaign.

...is the fact that, all of us, while mentioning the technical difficulties, are still excited and enthused. I mean, that says a lot about who we are. We aren't petty complainers. We get that sh.. happens, but the fact that we are still talking about what he actually said tells me two things.

1) We are persistent because in order for us to hear it, we dialed the toll free number and listened. So we made the best out of it.

2) We are not fickle and we don't give up. We still watched the whole damn thing with all the glitches.

We are a resilient and awesome little bunch and we are just a grain of salt compared to all Obama supporters. This is why 16,000 people show up in below freezing temperatures. This is why 20,000 braved the cold and the rain. This is why 12,000 decided to spend their St. Patrick's day going to hear Obama rather than booze it up all day. This is why 3,000 people in a small town waited hours because they understood Barack Obama was stuck in a Blizzard in Chicago.

This is why.

That's great! The same technical clitch happened at our meeting. The meeting coordinator dialed the number on his cell phone, and pretty soon we had, like, ten cell phones all around the room tuned in....so we had Barack in stereo!! No one complained, and no one left...a couple of arms got tired from holding up the phones so people could hear, but no one cared! It was great getting together with "strangers" all connected by this amazing man. A great day! :)

You may have to "upload" a program. When you do, sometimes you have to actually log off or shut down and then restart your commuter. It happens to me all the time. I think I have all the Media programs now. LOL. So, do that.

Unfortunately, I don't think you can get it anywhere else because it's a web cast of the Campaign. MSM doesn't carry that. They only carry events.

Maybe in five years when the Media become obsolete , that may be different.

I wrote down the number of donors and donations on the Home page at 3:00 Central (4:00 my time) when the video started. In the last four hours the number of donors has risen by1,039 people. The number of donations rose by !,079 accounting for the second-timers.

That means he is gaining 250 supporters EVERY HOUR and doing even better than that on donations. I wonder how these numbers move on a normal day. (Is there a "normal" day in this campaign? I don't think so! This is awesome support.)

I think I need to correct my choice of words.

I am sure that today Obama is gaining many more "supporters" per hour than we can possibly imagine. So 250 per hour should say "financial backers" (or just "donors").

And what was I thinking when I said "second-timers"? Some of these donations are from people who have given three times or more or are on the monthly plan, They take their commitment as serious as their mortgage payment and are the backbone of this campaign. These are the folks that most deserve our respect and appreciation and so I apologize for inadvertantly leaving them out.

Just wanted to make those clarifications.

After about twenty minutes of technical difficulties, and getting some sense of his discusion, we decided to hold our own discussion on why we support Obama (and other political musings). The discussions were filled with a hopeful, passionate and loving energy, which was wonderful.

We had an intimate group of about 25 folks. We all arrived as strangers and left as potential partners in an "It takes a Community to build a President" campaign.

We did the same for our party where we were able to watch the Onnawah discussion for about 1 hour, then popped in the DVD, then had a similar good 1/2 hour discussion with our group.

To think that previouly unknown neighbors can come together with a common purpose, to regain our Democracy, while thousands of others across America did the same, and to then hear a thoughtful discussion between an educated citizenry and Barack Obama, was truely remarkable.

I felt Barack was his typical sincere, thoughtful, well-spoken and understanding self. Kudos to the great folks from Onnawah too for their great questions and engagement.

I NOTION HIM OVER TO ME WITH MY FREE HAND AND WHISPER IN HIS EAR. WHO ARE YOU? HE SAYS ABC / ACTION NEWS. I GAVE HIM THE NOD TO KEEP FILMING. HE FINALLY LEFT ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE BARACK FINISHED. EVERYONE REACHED FOR ONE AND SOON THEY WERE ALL FILLING THEM OUT AND THEN THEY STARTED STUFFING CASH IN SEPARATE ENVELOPS AND FILLING OUT THOSE CONTRIBUTIONS FORMS AND FILLING OUT CHECK AND CREDIT CARD DONATION FORMS AND JUSTIN WAS IN SHOCK. I just finished viewing the video which is now available on the Home page. It is fascinating and especially engrossing to watch Obama's presentation without all the technical difficulties experienced earlier. Do watch it.

Also the donor/donations are still increasing at the rate of about 250 per hour!

I just watched the webcast. Senator Obama is sent from the Lord! That was the best town hall meeting he has done yet! The questions for great! He wanted to know what his audience thought and not just give "talking points." The end of the town hall was INCREDIBLE! This man is a combination of President John Kennedy, Senator Bobby Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Ronald Reagan! After watching that wonderful webcast, I'm off to give him another $100.00!

I see a lot of people talking about the technical difficulties.

Ironically no one noticed, that it was one of the topic of what Sen. Obama was discussing.

Your technical glitches can be driven back here:
Bandwith - If you don't know what bandwith is, I'll give you a quick explanation being a server administrator:

Imagine a pipe that runs like a sewer line or a water pipe. It can only support a given amount of water to run through at a certain time. Now if you grab a big bucket and pour it in, It will run through, and depending the amount of water and the diameter of the pipe, you have to be careful how fast you are pouring. If you have a large pipe you can pour it a a lot faster while smaller diameter pipe, you have to go slower.

The diameter of the pipe is the bandwith is. By a lot of people connecting the "pipe" is overfilled and can't support the amount of connections made, which is your computer requesting the "water" which is the information.

I'm not going to explain the differences of the "pipe" which is the cable lines, but by making the bandwith better, requires faster servers and better/newer cables (optical) laid down and replacing the old (thinner pipe) cables.

Now, Imagine, North Korea and various other nations has already done this or doing it, while we aren't making any progress, neither making bandwith better, neither providing internet to those who still do not have service available.

It's the same deal with the cell phones (Europe 10 years ahead of USA) , but I am not going into that.

Contrast the above explanation of bandwidth limitations with that of the former Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, Ted Stevens (R) Alaska, who has oversight on the internet. The following was his floor speech given during net nuetrality debate...

"I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?

Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the internet commercially. So you want to talk about the consumer? Let's talk about you and me. We use this internet to communicate and we aren't using it for commercial purposes.

We aren't earning anything by going on that internet. Now I'm not saying you have to or you want to discrimnate against those people.

The regulatory approach is wrong. Your approach is regulatory in the sense that it says "No one can charge anyone for massively invading this world of the internet".

They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It's not a truck.

It's a series of tubes.

And if you don't understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and its going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.

Now we have a separate Department of Defense internet now, did you know that?

Do you know why?

Because they have to have theirs delivered immediately. They can't afford getting delayed by other people.

Now I think these people are arguing whether they should be able to dump all that stuff on the internet ought to consider if they should develop a system themselves.

Maybe there is a place for a commercial net but it's not using what consumers use every day.

It's not using the messaging service that is essential to small businesses, to our operation of families.

The whole concept is that we should not go into this until someone shows that there is something that has been done that really is a viloation of net neutraility that hits you and me."

Now, recall part of Obama's discussion yesterday where he hit on the difference between a senate majority of 50 vs. 60 for actually getting things done, and legislation passed. It is time that some Barack's senate colleagues, particularly those that "work" for big oil and telecom companies, find new jobs.

And it is no wonder with Senator Stevens "in charge" for the past 6 years and reading his floor speech explaining the internet, why we had the Obama town hall live broadcast technical difficulties.

I noticed several Hope Action Change meetings in rochester NY, I was wondering if there was a chance we could combine to form a single Rochester-for-Obama group so we could get strength in numbers and share ideas. I would be happy to facilitate organization or support someone who has better skills. The closest organized meetup I've seen so far is Albany, I think there are enough interested to form something a little closer to home.

We have a group in Syracuse that has met twice. Our attendance nearly doubled at the second meeting and we had our share of technical glitches, yet we are more enthusiastic than ever about the cause.
Like others, I didn't get to see the full broadcast until I got home, where I got it with full clarity and it was fantastic! The range of issues discussed, the way Obama talked and connected with every person in the room (and everyone nationwide, I'm sure) only reinforced the belief that we're behind the right man for president!

The Seantor made a reference that the major newtworks should contribute blocks of time to all of the candidates so the money that is raised allows him to spend the money more wisely - getting out to meet an greet the old, new and on the hedge supporters. Certinaly seems he will be able to get more bang for the buck with a better rice value relationship.
