The reason some people are hoping Clinton comes 3rd is because she has shown that she is not someone of character. As you can see, no one is really wishing the same about John Edwards.

I take offense to your comment. It means that you are not thinking out of the box and that is what we need someone who can be creative, bring people together, and think outside of the box which is the status quo.

No. The worst dem will be a loser in the general. PERIOD!!! Many on the fence are tired to this administration and see freshness in Barack. They see real hope. Not the status quo. Hillary and Bill (This is crazy that we have to feel that if we get Hillary we are getting Bill too) are showing they are no better than Karl Rove. Dirty politics. People are tired of it.

I love Barack, but there is no way in the general (God forbid) that I vote for Hillary. The lesser of the evils would be McCain. That is saying a lot. If Hillary is Dem in general, write it off. She will not win. Too polarizing. People will vote republican just as anti-Hillary vote.

Completely agree.

I am a progressive democrat. I would vote for any dem but Hillary, although I strongly favor Barack over the others.
Hillary is the one dem that I would not vote for in the general election.
Had Biden or Kucinich or Dodd or even Edwards won the dem nomination, I would without a doubt have voted for them, even though I like them much, much less than Barack. However, after all the nasty, race-baiting, divisive campaigning of the Clintons (and Hillary as the candidate is responsible for it all), I can not vote for her. Prior to her recent actions in the last month or two, I could have and would have voted for her. I would not vote for her now if she were running against the Devil himself.

Besides she has just punted the most loyal voting group of the democratic party. She, therefore, can't win the general election.

She is what she is : unelectable: thank God and for a good reason!

I agree ... go back to the original plan for being positive... the people I'm talking to in Southern California are interested in the issues and turned off when the focus moves away. Also, Obama needs to talk more about issues like illegal immigration (which many feel is responsible for the state's budget deficit), health care, education (e.g. state schools (UC, CSU) are so crowded and SO expensive), and economy. Obama also taking the high road (not using any of the Clinton tactics) is the best way to win the Feb. 5th primaries and the White House down the line.

Agreed. I don't want to hear any more about race or gender from any of the candidates, and I'm hoping the media will see the light soon, too. I think the media was overblowing that aspect of the contest from the start, and hopefully they'll realize that chattering about race and gender isn't doing anything useful.

I'm so glad to see Barack win South Carolina so spectacularly and with such widespread appeal. The statistic I like best is "Obama wins 63% of people who have never voted before." Getting the American people back in the game -- YES!!! That is what America needs the most right now. I have every confidence that our grassroots, community-centered, personalized style of campaigning will win out over the Clintons' and the media's stir-the-pot-and-keep-it-boili ng style of politics. It's time to move America forward -- NOW.

Obama's support is the Latino community is soft, he has only 25% percent- we must come up with new strategy to increase his market share in this important community for February 5th Super Tuesday. One idea that come to mind is that most Spanish speaking immigrants in the US are from Mexico and othe Latin American countries. The Clintons while in office have neglected Latin America and the Bush Administration has alienated Latin America. This could provide a strategic window of opportunity for Obama to underscore the importance of Latin America and in the process use this as a springboard to make a connection with the Latino community and get news coverage in the Spanish TV. He must also high light the importance of Europe, The Middle East and Africa. He must also come up with suggestion to give the utmost importace to Middle East problem ; he must underscore his commitment to Israel to reassuere the Jewish community; the importance of India , China...
He must realy push the idea that he is the only one who has no negative perception in the world unlike the Clintons who are associated with the war in Iraq.

Please let us push for Obama to make a bold ideas.

Well anyway, what is Latino, I've got a headache and don't want to look it up, sorry but I'm not aware of the different names for different heritages, my bad. If it includes Mexicans some of my Family has that Heritage, some a lot and some a little, and we are supporters for Obama. My husband, son, and I have visited your state and we love it.One of our reasons for visiting was not one that we would have visited for if we had a choice, but to many times in life, life makes the choices for us. We came there the first time, and several times after because of my sons spinal cord injury that he got from riding his motor-cross cycle, on a practice track that he and his friends use. So our first visit was for re-hab at the Philadelphia Shiners Hospital and having to go back for follow-up appointments. But there are always hidden blessings in every dark cloud. Our blessing was in getting to meet so many people in the hosp. and so many outside the hosp. setting. We found the people amazing and your state great. The only thing that I found different from the people in my home state of Iowa was that we call soft drinks pop when ordering. I still don't know why I got such a weird look, but I hope it brought out laughter. Our family laughs a lot and we don't care how it might be done, just as long as laughter is the result. Oh yeah, our second reason was to see how to build a Log Home, now that's a story all by it self that we are still laughing about, it has to do with riding a Bus to our destination and what to do if they break down. My advise is to not wait for the bus service to come up with an idea, call a taxi.
Building a Log Home can create more laughs.
Thank you Pennsylvania for making our visits so great, in your Great State. Maybe some of you will remember us.

The media people need to stop pushing demographic-based narratives of any sort, period. Of course, I'm preaching to the choir by saying that here. ;) Barack himself said it best in 2004: "The pundits like to slice and dice our country ... but I've got news for them too .... We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America...."

I think overall, that's the most impressive thing about Barack Obama -- his dedication to bridging divides and bringing people together. Sooner or later, even the most jaded media pundits will have to acknowledge that. :)

Thanks for the link! I was hoping someone would write a song for this campaign, and what a great night for my wish to come true!

I've emailed it to my granddaughter for her birthday. Her party's tomorrow and I hope to dance it with her then!

Oh, I'm curious how it went at the polls, whether there were no slippery tricks this time(if not, then maybe that's why we won so big, absent the tampering!!)

We have so much hard work ahead of us, lots of challenges in the Super-Tuesday states but thanks to South Carolina AND this song, we now have some serious momentum.

I KNEW WE HAD IT IN US!! Let's keep blogging and meeting and contacting voters and donating regularly and generously and being as creative and out of the box as we can.

This is a real slap in the face for Dirty Politics.

Yesterday,

I wish it were true. But the damage from the dirty tricks has been done. My mom is an example of it. She is one of those people that views anything on news as gospel, and once something false is allegated or just hinted at, it's like a lever has been turned and becomes hardened, and then almost impossible to overturn.

You know, about my mom, here is the crazy thing. I even got her to admit that Bill Clinton is a liar and not to be trusted. (The reason I talk about him is that she sees him and Hillary Clinton being a pair, running for co-presidency. This is coming from a woman that had to study for and passed the citizenship test, and should know better, but it is her belief.) But here is the heart of what is wrong:

Its already in her mind that all politicians lie, but the Clintons are the known tangibles, while Mr. Obama is an unknown, a dark horse. Everything that has been said about Mr. Obama, even though they are lies, fills in the big void of information about him, and so is really hard to undo. In her mind, the little info she knows about Mr. Obama is bad, and she rationalizes that the Clintons are ok, despite the mud on them.

Thankfully (hopefully???) there is just a certain segment within the party that are totally impossible to reason with.

Yeah, we hope the lying stops, you know it's going to continue.

But now, there is a difference between dirty play and deception. You can not be strategic and win any battle or war without employing deceptive tactics, but it doesn't have to involve telling lies or sabotaging the other side that tear the other person down unjustly. For example, think of the pick and roll in basketball, or the fake pass, etc. But lies and dirty tactics are like the hard intentional fouls using a disposable player on the enemy's captain and MVP player.

By the way, I love my mom and I can forgive her. But with Bill and Hillary Clinton, and when Bill said "we're just a family..." and something like at the end of the day we'll all still be a family. Hehe...no way. I may be voting Republican this time, if it comes to that.

I understand, Peng. Tell your mom that I, a 61 year old woman, voted for BC twice. I knew deep down he was a manipulator and a liar, but he was the lesser of two evils to my mind. Tell her that once in a generation someone like Obama comes along to lead us to hope and to reach our potential. Tell her she has to take a leap of faith and believe that we can ALL be better. That's what makes this country great. Obama will make mistakes. He is not a demigod. What he is is honest (altho' he has a little clarification to make about Reizo, but no big deal.) Tell her not to be afraid to believe in her own judgment of the facts. We've had enough fear brought on by lies. Tell her we don't have to be afraid anymore. The truth shall set us free!

It is essential today that Senator Obama and his speech writers do what was not done after the Iowa win, in New Hampshire and that is, that after a great win and a beyond-great speech, to dial back down. SC was then, and this is now, and now people in the Super Tuesday states have to be talked to, in great speeches, yes, but also in conversational tones, in town halls, in round tables, and in 7/8's of the stump speeches. This does not dial down the inspiration, it merely goes back to 'reality.'
A quick look at McCain's Friday round table on national security is what needs to be addressed, with content, details, policy, and truth. The pressure will be on for Senator Obama to go with the rhetorical and the great achievement that SC was and is. Despite the awesome physical demands that the next 10 days will require of the candidate, just let him talk and come back to earth, where many people are listening for concrete approaches and policy first. Yes, he will not have the luxury of hanging in a state for a week, and that the strategy will be that where ever the Senator does appear, to hit 'em hard. But, at this particular time, tho people want hope, they need something more than hope. (Think Benjamin Franklin.)
They want Reason.
Yes, Barack Obama, the man, and his candidacy is reason enough. Still, all the bases have to get covered.

I had a dream to days ago. I did not know how to reach it to Obama.

I dreamt The Lord saying (it was a voice coming from teh clouds) saying: Because The Clintons have knowingly made false accusations against you, lied of your name. I will remove these trays and give them to you. I saw white shiny grant rectangular open trays(vessels) 6 of them and six white big horses being given to Obama. And Clinton the same things (horses and trays) burned and got to ashes. And i woke up. Then I knew Obama if he remains faithful The Lord will lead his victory for it is he The Lord who chose him to lead the people of America to another level. To change.

I continue to pray for him always.. if anyone can pass this message to him i will be most greatful.

I'm a fellow non-believer here, and a big draw to me for Barack is his acceptance of us. In the 21st Century, when some people still say that athiests can't be moral or shouldn't be citizens, it's nice to hear a statesman who embraces us as equals.

I may not worship the same God as most of the people in this great Nation, but my heart is still filled with hope for all people, my mind is filled with acceptance of the vast diversity of beliefs and backgrounds, and my path is guided by rules that transcend all walks of life: do unto others as you would have done to yourself, and treat the least among us as you would treat your own brother.

To the Christian, the Jew, the Muslim, the Buddhist, and to those who believe that this life is all we have so we have to make the absolute best of it that we can for everyone, I stand with you in support of a leader who can truly unite all of us for the best of all possible futures for ourselves and our children. I'd like to hope that these days, in this International world, the new generation of Americans is largely seeing that race and background are mainly outward distinctions. The content of a man's character, his intellect, and the ability to inspire and achieve are what really define a great leader.

We are no longer tied to skin color, or State of birth, or family name as an indication of greatness. Instead, it is the rebirth of the American Dream that any person, regardless of background, can strive towards greatness and achieve the level of success that they commit themselves to. Of course, the most noble of these goals is that of Public Service, and to that end, Barack Obama is a shining example of noble achievement.

Who better to vote for? Who better to support? Who better to be the next President of the United States of America?

...the pollsters are misleading the American public....but we're not as feeble-minded as some of them seem to think....and the MSM pundits don't talk about all the lead the frontrunner has had last year and how Obama has come back and dipped into that lead like a speeding bullet.

To all my fellow citizens of the Obama nation. Let's make a pledge that we will focus all our attention on the issues and talk about it to potential voters for February 5th and the rest of the primaries.

this victory is incredibly sweet. I was thinking about something moving forward to Super Tuesday. Since the economy will most certainly be the number 1 issue by far for voters, as was the case today, it will be great to have an ad running in most parts of the country touting the fact that Barack's stimulus plan was rated the best of all the candidates. This will in my opinion move a lot of people to Barack.

John Edwards, for the most part, is a respectable candidate. Why wouldn't a lot of white voters cast a vote for him? Didn't he win there four years ago? You could vote for Edwards and still think BC was wrong for attacking Obama.

Don't forget... a fair number of HRC's votes came from black voters.

Ethnicity plays a part in these elections, but it doesn't seem to be the determining factor, does it?

My thoughts, I am what is known as a "Baby Boomer", an up and coming old fart, and a Vietnam Vet. The Clinton's and other politians are of my generation; baby boomers, old guard, the establishment ( as known in my day). While there is nothing wrong with that, they have had their chance, their time, their oppotunity. The time for changes is NOW.

In my mind, the time for change has come and is here. It is time for the next generation to take over and, God willing, take it further than my generation and previous generations have done and do it better. It is your time now, don't muck it up. Don't miss the chance. Black, White, Brown, Red are colors, just colors. As Mr. Obama has stated we are not a country of red states nor blue states but, the United States of America!

Barack Obama, for me, represents that change and that next generation to take over. It is up to all of us prior to and during Super Tuesday to get out and make Our voices, Our hopes, and Our dreams heard and brought to life; BARACK OBAMA for PRESIDENT... Maybe that would be better stated as PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA? :o)

My mom is 60 years old, in the Army, spent time in Iraq, mistakingly supported Bush in 00 and 04 (ugh), and she's had enough!!! She's treats troops with PTSD and has seen too much sadness.

I want to throw it out there that after these results I once again feel hopeful about our country's future and its political process. Previous to this, I have been feeling extremely disheartened.

Obviously, you can tell that I am an Obama supporter, however, I think the more important question to be asking is, doesn't everyone feel inspired again, now that the dirty and cynical politics of the Clintons have been rejected? And more importantly, don't we feel inspired that a "substantial" consensus of South Carolina has embraced the possibility of a new type of politics...a new vision of how we need to conduct ourselves in this country?

I first voted in 1988. I voted Republican, George Bush and the Reagan ideal all the way.

I became disillusioned with politics, and stopped voting after the 200o election cycle, not even bothering to register to vote when I moved.

Zoe, if you go to the cnn.com page and click on the politics tab. There's a topic that says Edwards is going to speak live. When you click on it you can then get to the Obama headquarters. They may have his speach live too. I also do not have cable and am news starved right now.

Just got a call from our dear friend GM from Ohio. He was so fired up after being here in Iowa, he went to SC; his precincts did SUPER well.

I just today decided to support Obama, and I am glad to see he beat Clinton in the SC primary. I just can't get over the mixed emotions and the feeling that the remaining democrats are more middle of the road than truly progressive.

I am saddened that in 2008 the best we can do is a candidate who still believes seperate-but-equal rights for gay people is good enough, who I have never heard speak out in favor of animal rights, and from whom I have never heard an insistence that religion has no place in politics. The list goes on.

So I will support Obama, and I will donate to Obama, and I will hope for the best. But I fear the democrats really never will be a progressive party.

First of all, WELCOME, Matthew!

Obama is absolutely fantastic on LGBT issues (I am gay also, and have supported him from day one)...He believes in civil unions and full rights across the board. He is a member of the UCC church which is the most accepting and affirming denomination (along with Episcopalian which I am) there is.

Click on the "ISSUES" tab above and look up his speech on "Faith & Politics." No matter what your beliefs, I think this will be inspiring for you.

Anyway, welcome aboard, and keep learning and researching...Obama is truly amazing, and the more you know, I think the more you'll like!!!

Welcome! I'm right there with you. I'm a vegetarian Green voter, and animal rights and wildlife protection is one of my pet issues (no pun intended). While I agree that the Democrats don't seem likely to adopt as progressive a platform as I'd like to see on these matters, one of the things I like about Barack Obama is that he actually has spoken out in support of animal rights. Well I suggest you take a closer look at Barack Obama's stance on these topics through the issues section on this site. I think you will feel better about his stances on those topics. He is the most progressive candidate that has a chance of winning and considering where and how far he has had to come to get here... Yeah, I'd say he is progressive enough for this country in this moment.

Apperently, according to MSNBC 68% of WHITES say that the Clinton machine treated Obama unfairly!

Thanks to those who replied, and nice to meet you all. I am busily reading all your suggestions.

Understand I recognize he is certainly closer to my views than many others. Kucinich, as you could probably guess was my first choice, but it was not to be.

The main sticking points I have with his LGBT stance are that he does not support marriage equality for LGBT folks. If I understand correctly he is in favor of civil unions. I am sorry, but this is not good enough. This is separate and unequal.

And as far as animal rights, I will look closer at his history on this, but if a news junkie like me has not heard his stance on this, and he is not a vegetarian, I am skeptical of how key this issue is to him.

Having said all that...I really am excited and hopeful and look forward to seeing what he will do.

Barack needs to have people representing him on television (Hispanics and white women) as Hillary is doing right now! Every where you see on TV Hillary's surrogates are "analyzing" the news all across the cable TV. They do not say that they are Hillary Clinton supporters until they are asked. I cannot stress this enough, he needs people who can speak his message on TV.

Hillary strategy is to win Hispanics and whites and to care less about blacks. Barack has to show that his message is not that of divisiveness but that of inclusion including Latinos.

He should also show that Hillary is the past (with her tactics)and divisive politics, and that he Barack can bring independents and young people which HILLARY CANNOT DO!

Today is such a huge victory! I am so exstatic and excited about what this campaign can do. It's my birthday today (I'm 26 on the 26th!) and my partner and I went canvassing for Obama. We finally got a yard sign, and we even had an Obama O painted on our car. We're fired up and ready to go! This is the best birthday ever! All I wanted was a South Carolina victory. We won tonight on VALUES. We won because the voters of South Carolina share our core values and not the core values of the Clintons. People have been talking about the need for Democrats to compete with Republicans on values for years. Well, tonight we beat a Democratic candidate on values!! We will build a new coalition centered around these values because many, many Independents and Republicans share core values with us that the Clintons do not share! This is what I posted on this blog a few days ago after I realized what the Clintons really are:

My differences with the Clintons are not minor. They are profound. The Clintons do not share a number of my core values. I value unity. They do not. I value clarity. They do not. I value civil political discourse. They do not. I envision a Democratic Party in which no candidate for office would deliberately divide the party along racial and gender lines for reasons of political convenience. They envision a Democratic Party in which such behavior is the norm.

These are not trivial differences. They are profound differences that go to the heart and soul of what our party, the Democratic Party, should stand for. I do not believe that this is merely a battle to determine who shall lead our party as we head into November. I believe that this is a battle to determine what shall be the essential core values of our party as we head into the rest of the 21st Century.

I just read the news, and I am so elated, too! :) What you are saying echoes across the hearts and minds of all of us.

As an observer, and participant, I want to note that we are awakening as a movement, the "new moral majority". I hated that phrase and what it came to represent, but as it should be, but we can coopt it, because I believe that we, this generation that has lived through the 70s, 80s, 90s, really want to be good people and to be civil with another and to give each other liberty to pursue their happiness (as long as it doesn't hurt others), and that we need to look at really funding education and health care, and to stimulate the economy to give people opportunities to work.

We should not just talk about values, but we should be the embodiment of it. That's the new moral majority, and that is what seems to be the wave that is supporting Mr. Barack Obbama, I am so happy to say.

Is this a little movement that will die off because the old hands will break our spirits? Today, no! Tomorrow? Maybe... because now look for it. The next storm to hit us is about Barack Hussein Obama being the black muslim candidate. The Clintons are going to hit hard on it! Maybe not so directly now, but they are the master of public doubletalk and media manipulation.

Don't blame the journalists. Don't blame anyone. Just do your best everyone. :)

We're going to have to do our best to talk to our families and friends, and hope that Mr. Obama will continue to have luck on his side and be able to thread the needles and take us through that perfect path through the storm ahead.

Now to celebrate the moment! Wow! Mr. Obama, congratulations!!!!

Awesome win. Looking forward to adding my vote to what I hope is the wave to the democratic nomination. As much respect I had for Pres Clinton and his presidency, he frittered some of it away with the obfuscation tactics he attempted in NH and SC. I doubt it'll stop the negative attacks though.

I hope Barack begins to allow more Q & A at his rallies though. His stump speech is great, don't get me wrong, but come on, we have all heard it. It's time to start to define the specifics of his platform and how he wants voters to assist in making these tough changes he suggests we will need to make. What are they? Still a little abstract; time to get concrete. He needs to start facing real-time questions from real voters, not just supporters.

Listening to some of the on-air pundits, you can tell the Repubs are chomping at the bit to get to take their shots at Billary one more time. It is the one thing that will motivate their base--even if McCain wins (sorry, Bill you know the machine will just have to drag up the past). The Clintons have done a lot for this country, and hopefully will lend their support to an Obama presidency.

Oconee County--it says 100% counted with Back getting 26%, Edwards, 45%, billary 29%. must be Edwards home county or close.

"THE INTERNET"

The new generation of young people born from 1985 onwards is one that does NOT remember a world without the internet.

The internet has made "globalists", out of American citizens that have never travelled outside of the USA.

The internet is responsible for our young generations no longer holding racist views.

The internet has replaced apathy with political interest among the youth.

Afterall, all day we chat with people online from every ethnicity, religio, sexual orientation, etc, etc.....AND find that they are not so different from us, and that we have plenty of things in common.

For all it's shortcomings.....The internet is creating a truly, tolerant WORLD community.

I was in my dorm room just finishing up playing FIFA 08. I turned off the game around 7:10 pm, anxious about today's results. Then I see on CNN.com that Barack was projected to win by a substantial margin.

Needless to say, I screamed; for a moment, I didn't care what people thought. I was so happy; all of the weeks of near wins and disappointments finally meant something today. It showed me that the media has no say over the American people. It showed me that with enough work, Americans can take control of their future and change it for the better. I called my two parents and they were ecstatic; they're Obama supporters, and to hear that Obama won was a dream come true.

I imagine a unified scream of joy coming from Obama supporters tonight. I will be watching the victory speech. The question is, will you? And will you scream for joy?

The HILARIOUS thing is the girls standing behind him who have been making strange faces, rolling their eyes, and generally looking confused by what he's saying. I love it.

I'm so proud of South Carolina - I had been really worried about the breakdown of the vote even though I just knew Obama would win. The vote shows that Obama has a broad appeal to voters, and it also shows that we here in SC did not buy what was coming out of the Clinton camp this week and that we here in SC are smarter than that!

I had an amazing experience at the Obama HQ in San Diego this afternoon working towards the goal of calling 100,000 California voters in a single day. As a newly anointed precinct captain, this was my first experience reaching out to my neighbors to discuss issues that are important to them. The day was made even more wonderful by coming home to the announcement of such a resounding victory for Senator Obama. South Carolina, YOU ROCK!!!

What struck me today was how many undecided voters there are in my area. Based on my conversations today, California is very, very up for grabs. This is the time to get on the phones, to donate, to canvass, to do anything we can to support the campaign. I feel the momentum; I feel people's desire for something - anything - other than what we've endured for the past seven years. Let's hit the pavement, fellow Super Tuesday staters!

I am so proud to be a part of this truly grassroots movement to bring positive change to our country, and to be celebrating (or rather, eCelebrating) with all of you. FIRE IT UP!!!

How embarrassing! He spent the first five minutes talking about his own accomplishments. Hillary is an afterthought.

And Pat Buchanan is spinning everything,trying to help Billary every step of the way. He so obviously wants her to get the nomination so they can stomp her in November. As if we can't see thru it!

I am a registered Green party memeber because I normally hate the democratic candidates.

I truly wish I had changed to Dem. For this one because I really want to see if Obama can/will carry through with his messege of CHANGE.

THe Bill/Hillary campaign must be defeated as, they are obviously playing the same old dirty politics, saying anything to get the vote. Why has no one brought up the fact that she is paid by the insurance companies???

Obama is seemingly the most truthful candidate I have seen outside of the greens, in a long time. I really hope to be able to vote for him in the general.

If Hillary gets in, I will look at it like business as usual in the White House and will be forced to take my vote back to the greens. .

COME ON PEOPLE. HELP ME VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!

Yes, I agree. We need to stay focused on rejecting another Bill Clinton presidency. He's not running! How can Senator Clinton get away with not speaking at all, but sending her husband out to deal with everything? Is that how it will be if they won the White House?
