Kudos to the Press Citizen

Obama stands tall among this already strong group as both the candidate of hope and the candidate of change we can believe in.
Although Obama's fellow candidates scoff that living in Indonesia for four years as a child doesn't prepare him for the complexities of foreign affairs, many people throughout the globe will take comfort knowing that the U.S. president has lived in and knows well the most populous Muslim country in the world. It will help Obama successfully convene a meeting of Muslim leaders within his first year in office.

Of course, winning over the hearts and minds of billions of skeptical Muslims will be much easier after President Obama closes Guantanamo Bay and begins a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops in Iraq.
As a senator, he's worked to visibly link members of Congress to their roads to nowhere and to their Iowan rain forests. As president, he will hold large-scale, open discussions on the issues facing Americans in the 21st century: health care, climate change, comprehensive immigration reform, border security, tax policy, education and economic development.

Unlike the health care overhaul attempted during Bill Clinton's administration, for example, Obama has pledged to hold open meetings and conferences for all the nation to see. Bringing together doctors, nurses, patients and hospital administrators -- as well as representatives of the drug and insurance companies -- Obama will produce a plan that moves beyond the limits of backroom politics.

It's true that a single-payer health care system would make the most sense if the U.S. were establishing a system from scratch. But Obama understands that, given more than half-century history of employer-provided health care and its supporting industry, the nation can't easily make a 180-degree turn. Nor can citizens wait around for some ideologically pure system to be developed. Because people need help now, Obama's plan provides the best alternative: Establishing a government system that covers those ineligible for private care and making it effective enough that others might eventually look to join it.

He will use the bully pulpit of the presidency to likewise address climate change, education and economic opportunity.
Obama has the right vision for a new national politics and a new global reputation. He now needs voters and supporters who will help him transform that vision into reality. It's a transformation that should have started three years ago. Neither the nation nor the world can wait any longer.

On Thursday, El Latino newspaper, the Iowa weekly Spanish-language newspaper with 15,000 readers, endorsed Senator Obama. El Latino is the first Spanish-language newspaper in Iowa to ever endorse a presidential candidate. This historic endorsement comes as the Iowa caucus approaches on January 3rd.

Here is the full text of the endorsement editorial below:

To Elect Barack Obama is to Elect a Better Future for Everyone

El Latino Newspaper is proud to be the first Latino newspaper in Iowa to make public our opinion on the future of the US. Like many members of the Latino community in Iowa, we work very hard to secure a better future for our families, we pay taxes, and contribute--- economically, socially, and culturally to our communities. Our work and civil duty gives us the right to evaluate all the presidential candidates—Democrats as well as Republicans and determine who is the person who best represents the interest of the Latino community and has the character and leadership to unite the nation for progress.

After carefully studying the presidential candidates, the editorial team at the El Latino, has decided to endorse Senator Barack Obama. Since Obama’s father was an immigrant and Obama is a minority in the US, he not only understands the Latino community, he feels it—the good and the bad. We identify with Obama and are convinced that he understands the issues that directly impact Latino families: issues like immigration, education, the War in Iraq, civil rights, and small business development.

The most important thing is that these issues get implemented in Congress. No other presidential candidate, particularly divisive candidates, can unite Congress and secure the votes to finally pass comprehensive immigration reform. We believe that Obama is the only candidate with the capability to change the immigration laws to keep our families together and give everyone the opportunity to pursue the American Dream.
We believe that Obama is the candidate of hope and the future. We make the decision to endorse with conviction, bravery, and the confidence that he bests represents a better future for our families and community. We ask with all our heart that all members of the Latino community in Iowa attend that caucus to vote for Barack Obama, January 3 at 6:30pm.

An Omnibus bill is a single document that is accepted in a single vote by a legislature but contains amendments to a number of other laws or even many entirely new laws. An example of these are the Omnibus spending bills regularly used by the American Congress to group together the budgets of all departments in one year.

I just got back from a town hall meeting with Obama in Indianola, Iowa. He was magnificent! He covered every possible subject in his speech. I think he has gotten better at it since the summer. There were undecided people and also republicans. Republicans are taking a look at him too. A woman sitting next to me told me that she had been a Hillary supporter but changed to Obama after she heard him say that his New Year resolution was to remember that this was not about him (more or less). Isn't he wonderful! I drove 30 miles in the snow coming back home, but it was well worth it. Just letting you know what people are saying.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear the weather hasn't caused cancellations as it did yesterday in Eastern Iowa. What was the size and demanor of the crowd? Did weather affect turnout?

The size of the crowd I would say was about 400 people or more. The auditorium was completely full with lots of people standing in every space they could find. I was surprised to see that big a crowd. I figured most people would be shoping for Christmas. There were all kinds of people, young, middle age and old. There were also some little kids there. The demeanor of people? They weren't noisy like at the JJ dinner. Looks like a lot of people were trying to make up their minds and were paying a lot of attention.

I would say about 20 of the undecided hands went up. I suspect there were more undecideds than that who did not raise their hand. A woman who said she was republican asked Obama a question. I suppose there were also more republicans there than just her

Dubuque Telegraph Herald
Mason City Globe-Gazette
Cedar Rapids Gazette
Waterloo Courier
Ames Paper

Those are the last of the bigger papers.
I think Obama has a good shot at most of them because he is a very impressive guy in a sit-down with these editors. When you think about it, these editors get to ask all the questions they want and get long form answers which Barack excells at so to me , endorsements from these papers should be highly valued..these people get more actual insight into each candidate than anyone else..period.

I'm most proud of the edit of all the ellis-island kids from different continents fading into theAmerican Flag ;-) underneath....

I think I will cut down the inter-racial couples to 3 shots instead of 5...and linger on each of the 3 for longer..it will be more effective....

Hi SvK, great work so far. My video cut out at 2:55 but I liked the beginning, especially some of the Ellis Island footage and the bright beautiful eyes of the girl you show while he references Kenya.

That speech was so powerful and you could see in the faces of the delegates how they were moved by his words and presence.

I would like to see more of his speech in the video (that may be what you are planning). I put this on my ipod and listened to it today while I was running my Christmas errands. Love the audio and the music is perfect.
