Help close the superdelegate Gap!
HRC still leads by about 40 superdelegates.
With these superdels (all representing states Obama won by big margins), we'd cut that lead in half!

Could I make a suggestion or two?
First: Only people in the superdelgates district or State should write.
Second: Be polite, and dont make threats.
Otherwise, I think this may be counter productive. By threats I mean saying things like "If HRC wins Im gonna.....blah..blah..blah." even if its true.
Instead say (for example) "if the superdelegates make HRC the Nominee even though she has the fewest pledged delegates, I dont know how we will keep the Party together, nor do I see how we can keep the District (State, etc) for you. Please don't cause us another 4 years of Republicans in the White House."
I ended my last superdelegate letter with "I think your conscience will compel you, but in case it doesn't, I will simply say: I will remember your actions in this matter -- whatever they are -- and for a long, long time.
Faithfully,

Thanks; the last two are really good extracts that I missed. I had only seen Hannity behaving badly in interviewing Barack, and Kieth O on a different segment which was not as complete. (Hannity was so totally rude to Sharpton - who was also really the most visible in dealing with Ferraro: Thank you, Rev!)
I was particularly impressed with Obama's willingness to now bring the racism question out as a rational topic to address. I think it will go equally importantly for all of us. And for those of us teethed in the 60s and 70s we will be ready to move this on to a more longlasting healing track.

RONALD REAGAN LOST PENNSYLVANIA IN THE PRMARIES BUT WON IN THE GENERAL ELECTION. IN 2000 AL GORE WON NEW HAMPSHIRE IN THE PRIMARIES, BUT LOST IT TO G.W. BUSH. BUT BUSH LOST N.H. MISERABLY IN HIS PRIMARY CONTEST.
Ted Kennedy beat Jimmy Carter in the 1980 Pennsylvania primary, but it was Carter who won the nomination.
Secondly, Pennsylvania has not played a leading role in choosing a nominee in a quarter-century. Since 1984 the primaries were already wrapped up by time we got to Pennsylvania.
Finally, for Obama, potential swing states like Virginia and Colorado (or others) would essentially undo the damage of a Pennsylvania defeat in the GE.

Excellent suggestions on the super-delegate area.
I am a communications professor and this is all important at this point. Firm, intelligent, not personal attacks.
Time to make phone calls if you like that.
Also keep abreast of both the Rev Wright and Resco both are "silly season" but will be used. Know the facts to help clear and defend. ie: read Baracks interview with the Chicago Tribune.
Very good to be preemptive.

Well said. We need not lower ourselves to using harsh words. Nor do we need to behave in a manner that would reflect badly on Senator Obama. With the same dignity and grace that Senator Obama conducts himself so do we. I think it's great to contact our local superdelegates and let them know from our hearts our truest feelings, but with the greatest respect that they deserve.
Thank you for posting your thoughts! Much needed in these times!

As a fellow New Mexican, I appreciate your initiative. But I doubt that it will have any effect. Bill Richardson is waiting in the wings in order to see who will win the election. He does not want to spoil his chances of becoming the running mate of either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. His indecision is purely political, in my opinion.

I totally agree with you, they are looking forward to getting a new job. But look at it from a positive side Bill Richardson has never received many, many nice letters to remind him “whatever he decides we will remember it for a long, long time. (Great ending line Frstan). He looks for a promotion, but we are the voters. If enough people write those letters it will help. We are a movement, let’s use the movement. And whatever happens in November this movement needs to stick together. We have a lot of work to do in the next 4 years to get the right people elected at our local level so we will have better Super Delegates the next time around. Obama –Edwards was my “dream ticket” but not anymore. What is that good men waiting for? So, let us all check out our local Super Delegate and start writing letters. I agree that those letters need to come from people inside that Super Delegate’s district. But imagine if you got let’s say 100 letters from your own district voters. That makes you think twice about the position you are taking.

I loved the video of Richardson. I don't have television so haven't heard him speak in front of a camera very often. He is very funny, honest and blunt. I can see why he and Obama would get along. This might be a good running mate, when we finally get there. I am not a political expert but could the chemistry be there for these two? Definitely!
I also just got the full picture on Barack's ministers comments. This is a very unfortunate event and may have some set backs for Obama's campaign. I completely understand Wright's comments. I am a unitarian and have heard similar commentary at my church (omitting the heavily Christian statement of course). I have also read Barabara Kingsolvers book Poisonwood Bible and am aware of the history of politics in Africa. Opinions about how the aids epidemic in Africa was handled often does examine the behavior of the US in a negative light and has a basis of truth behind it. I don't think it is unpatriotic to criticize the United States and highlight the mistakes we have made. How else is awareness raised and change to occur? I understand Wrights commentary and don't see it as threating to America. At the same time I am afraid most of America won't. I hope this won't hurt too much.

I agree that in contacting representatives, they should foremost come from the state, but when you do contact from the other state, you should make it clear that you give money to many candidates across the country in order for the Democrats to keep their majorities... you think it would be easier to to give to candidates in whatever state the person represents if there were a concerted effort by the leadership of the Democratic Party to support Obama. Obama will continue to bring people like your self to the financing and supporting of candidates all over this country.
Because as you know, a majority Democratic Party with a President Obama will be a powerful force in washington...
No need for threats... there is a huge positive action that we can show we have done already in terms of 2006 and what we will do if they help us in 2008 by supporting a grassroots movement to move the party into a stronger position. Even though we don't come from 50 states, we are part of the United States and we are in this together. So when Kansas elects a democratic Senator it helps me in Vermont because my Senator continues to be chairman of the Judiciary. And he is very good at it and he is an Obama Supporter.

March 10, 2008
To The Honorable Jim Marshall
Dear Sir,
It is an honorf or me to write you to tell you that I think you are doing a wonderful job as our representative here in the 8th district. I have cast my vote for you each time you have run for office, and I have encouraged relatives and friends to vote for you also.
There are a couple of concerns I have for which I beg your consideration. Both are of utmost importance to me personally, and to the nation as a whole. I realize that you are a superdelegate for The Democratic National Convention. I realize also that you have not yet pledged your superdelegate vote neither for Senator Barack Obama, nor for Senator Hillary Clinton. I am asking you, since Senator Barack Obama did handily win the state of Georgia, that you pledge your vote in accordance with Georgia voters and align yourself with Senator Barack Obama. We will be vigorously campagning door to door and getting many new people registered to vote, many for the first time. It would be a very good time to remind people about your excellent work to date, and set the momentum for your re-election bid next time.We want your support for this grass roots effort.

Thanks for the list of super delegates. I will send a letter. What I just did (it's Saturday and no one is generally in these offices) I called and left messages in "states that bordered mine" (Wisconsin) & left a message as a concerned citizen and neighbor for the representative or senator to support Obama.
I actually got a live person in Illinois this morning and they were very supportive of my call.
Anyone that has lots of weekend minutes on your cell, this is a new twist to calling supporters.
The remainder of my day will be calling in Penn.!

What an absolutely awesome testimony. The people who are desperately trying to destroy this movement just don't get it.
CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN is from the bottom up. Senator Obama is causing people to do things they either have never done or are doing more.
Those of us who can see the light will continue to embrace him as the candidate who is genuinely concerned about us - more so than himself.
BE ENCOURAGED EVERYONE!
This is just helping in the long run!

What Barack OBAMA has done is given US THE PEOPLE back our country..that at the end of the day we are the ones who are in charge and those in DC work, of us, for us and by us.
What's happened is that in the capitol they feel they can do anything they want, with out care or concern for their constietutents.
This bottom up movement has citizens connecting and reaching out to each other, all over this country.
We are moving out of our comfort zone and becoming involved, doing things a year ago I doubt most of us could ever envision. Because we know there is a better way for this country to go, and at the end of the day, civility, decency, and honesty are values we hold dear.

I've been able to work in New Hampshire since November, then travel to South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas. I'm headed up to Pennsylvania in less than a week, with hopes of campaigning in Oregon and Montana after.
As your typical, starving college student, I have little money and any money I do have goes to my travels for the campaign.
And so I hope that with your help I will be able to raise an amazing goal:
One hundred thousand dollars.
Link
It's an ambitious goal, I know that. But, as we all know, every little bit help. Every $10, $25, $50, $100 gets us closer and closer.
I also ask that you share this link and this goal with your friends, co-workers, family. We need a lot of money heading in PA and the 9 contests afterwards. I don't want this to be my fundraising, I want it to be OUR fundraising, because that's the kind of community we are.
So please, let us ALL work together towards this goal.
Thank you,
Blake

Mary, so true. Guess this is why HRC has now adapted to a "grass roots" style campaign in PA as one paper said. She has copied everything she's seen work for Obama:
1. his entire website strategy and on-line funding
2. first she mocked him for talking about "change" and hope then started using it herself
3. trying her best to speak as he does (no way!)
4. she & Bill trying to act so romantic in the last month, kissing, hugging so people will think they're close like the Obamas. PLEASE! In the 8 years Bill was in office you never saw this and they only held hands walking back & forth to Air Force 1 whenever any of Bill's affairs blew up, especially Monica Lewinsky and the impeachment.
(I was around and remember!!)
5. she started sending Chelsea to College campuses to get some youth voters, whom she had ignored before march 4th
So. we already know she's devious and a liar (read Huffington Post each day), but her supporters either don't know or don't care. But in case they don't know this is for them!

Superdelegates should not have to be bombarded with pressure. They will make choices based on the way this campaign is conducted and the voices of their people. Let the people in charge of Obama's campaign & the officals that have already endorsed him handle this.
I'm sure the Superdelegates WILL make the right decision..based on the WILL of the people they represent.

I respectfully disagree. The whole point of this movement is to get The People involved in politics again so that we can take our country back from special interests. One of the best ways of getting involved is to make your voice heard and that's what these letters are for. We're showing the super delegates that many different types of people from all across the nation support Obama and want to see him as our next President.

WE REALLY COULD USE HIS ENDORSEMENT TO RALLY THE BLUE-COLLAR VOTE IN PENNSYLVANIA. IT WILL BE GREAT IF HE COULD JOIN OUR MOVEMENT AND CAMPAIGN FOR BARACK. IT COULD MAKE THE DIFFERENCE. Please post this or its modified likeness among blogs you visit. “Clinton's languishing campaign for a back-door deal to sway super-delegates has tacitly accepted help from republican pro-activists who are ginning up a narrative for the General Election, casting OBAMA as the anti-patriot, anti-American, (the Deceiver who must be stopped at all costs), up against the war hero - McCain. If we do not assail these claims for what they are, emotional appeals to foster manufactured outrage directed at Obama, like the lies spread to justify the lead up to the invasion of Iraq, that successfully got a majority to believe Iraq was behind 9-11, a rationalization which lingered even years after such claims where patently disproved, our country will suffer much for it. I read some where that said MCcain might win. Yeah right. The reason they stated that was because Hillary and Obama are campaigning against each other. Sorry this is not a new concept. As a matter of fact it has been going on for several hundred years. I didn't know that campaigning was something new. That doesn't give Mccain an automatic win. Sorry the American voter is going to want much more than that from thier president. Not someone who is sitting back waiting to be president. I don't really think that is how it works .

I heard a Hillary campaign guy say on AAR yesterday how it was the Barack campaign that started slinging mud etc., and it was them that put the negative focus on Hillary, instead of McCain. Well, I think it's Barack's job to show why he'd be a better president than Hillary, as this is the PRIMARY already, folks, not the general. McCain will lose by a landslide, because Barack will be the nominee. Hillary is digging the hole deeper and deeper, and all her spokespeople seem bent on helping her do that. The more false things they keep saying about Barack, the more people will flock to his banner.
Pointing out the negatives of the opponent in a political contest seems quite legitimate to me, especially when paired with such positives as Barack Obama has to offer.

He had the guts to get on all the television stations, including FOX News, to tell people the truth. And it may not have been on FOX, but a lot of commentators on different news networks mentioned that the letter that he sent out to the news networks was not only classy, but it showed his integrity.

I am praying that God Assign an Angel to walk with you, to carry you.
I am praying that God has the last say in this matter.
I am speachless on this issue. However I will continue to stand side of Barack Obama.
Jesus was accused of many things, he was killed because of what he believed in.
Obama will rise again and make his name known for good and not bad.
I have so many questions that are running thru my head right now!
But I know one thing, I prayed about who I was surpose to vote for in the beginning.
I trust that God didn't give me the wrong answer.
God has found favor in me that he would not steer me in the wrong direction.
I trust God with all my heart, soul and being.
I believe God will work all this out for the good of those who trust him.
There are so many people that are out to destroy Obama. We must pray and find Unity in Obama. And we must not let anyone, I mean it, anyone distract from the will of GOD.
God will have the last say.
I am going to make a donation, because that is how much I am trusting God is going to work all this out.
Be Blessed and pray
Everyone please pray this prayer
God, I love you & I need you
Forgive me for all my wrong, living, thinking and doing. I believe in you God, I know you didn't bring me this far to leave me. God, Bless all that are of you and believe in you. God, enter in my heart and the family of Obama, give them peace, and understanding. Bless all the people on this site and who visit daily. Father God we pray that your will be done, not man's will but your will. I pray for peace on earth and good will towards man. Please have mercy on me and my family. Amen.
We will be stronger to fight the arrows of the Devil. God is in "TOTAL" control. No weapons form against us will prosper. God is in total control. Trust God.

Now make no mistake about it, If there is a question of Obama's ability to be a Commander and Chief or his ability to lead this country I think has been answered for good. Do you think HRC would have survived an attack like this? Hell no!
Mr Obama has been true to his word from day one, he stood by his personnal beliefs and nobody has jolted him or shook him off his firm fondation. If that is not a sign or a pillar of a man who should be the President of these United States than I don't know how to determine the measurement.

If anyone isn't sure how to explain Wright's comments IN CONTEXT --
Black and white churches have historicaly been the most segregated institutions in our nation, and remain so today, out of tradition more than anything else. People go to church where they see familiar faces. They go to churches in their communities, still lagely segregated today.
To begin, Trinity United Church of Christ is one chapter of a much larger, fairly white nationwide church.
They preach messages of inclusion. They preach messages of community. This is how the "black values" system came into play.
The US has largely crapped upon black Americans for the better part of 400 years. That started to change about... 40 years ago. We still see the economic and social ramifications of segregation (sometimes the term "apartheid" is more approprite) today.
Barack was deeply moved by the strong community Wright had built at Trinity United. The church started with just a couple hundred members and grew to a few thousand members. People were drawn there because of the church's focus on community building. South Chicago communities were not exactly strong communities, and they still are more broken that white communities today.
Overall, black Americans have experienced a history unlike most white Americans. This is all true. This can be supported with mountains of historical evidence. Any educated person cannot argue that black and white people in this nation have shared a similar past, generally speaking.
I love this nation and its people so much I've said horrible things about our leaders, especially current leadership, as well as the Clintons. They have NEVER served the people. They have long records of serving themselves and their "friends".
Black Americans certainly have the right to be critical of a hypocritical government. We might not express this recognition of hypocrisy the same way, but we can't deny its existence.
Reverend Wright's job, as his pastor, is to lift his community. I have no doubt he does NOT preach this way every Sunday. He's be known as another Farakhan if he did.
Speaking of Farakhan, most do denounce and reject him and his messages. It can also not be denied that he's inspired a multitude of people to make their lives better through self-help and lifing oneself up out of hardship and misery.
I wish some of the liberal pundits would address Wright's comments through historical and rhetorical lenses.

To all: please search out the posting community blogs for my username: joythelioness and read my 4 part post regarding a better way for our candidate to handle negative non-issues related topics that come up, such as the one this week regarding his pastor. After I saw a poll Friday that indicated 61% of people polled indicated that their view of Barack had changed because of the story, I realized that something had to be done differently in dealing with these types of stories in the future.
In the future Barack should be advised not to comment on every negative issue the media turns into the "issue du jour". This only gives these negative stories life and breath and legitimize them when they are really just dirty politics and have no place in this campaign.
A short taped statement by Barack indicating that this devisive stance indicated on the tapes by his pastor and that exist within our communities is the very thing his campaign wishes to end and is in no way his shared view, just as John McCain's views are not necessarily shared with his religious endorsers, and Hillary Clinton indicated she did not share the same views as one of her main campaign fund raisers, Geraldine Farraro.
This way he would remind people that they all have been hit with media biases regarding the extreme views of their supporters and they have all denounced them in one way or another.
Barack succeded in the beginning of his campaign by showing he was truly above the fray, campainging and responding only regarding the issues and not giving any credance to negative things spoken about him or his campaign. He did his thing on the stump, and did not enter the silly season of politics. He must continue on this vein of separateness and a different way of approaching things, if we wish to be successful as it truly is a winning strategy.

Thank you for the video!! I, too, hope BHO uses it because it is powerful and will re-focus on the war. I cried as I watched because I have a son who, like too many, has already been there and is on his way back!!! This gov't likes to say "we support our troops". Well, here's the truth:
1. why was the Air Force suing the gov't last week because they withheld life saving tanks that were here in America, all because they wanted to buy them two years from now from a foreign country that no doubt has a contract with Haliburton? The AF said at least 100 lives could have been saved from roadside bombs if these troops would have been in those tanks!
2. when my son fought in Bosnia (Clinton's war), I personally had to go in my pocket and go to the MCSS (Military Clothing Sales Store) on post to buy and send him special Kevlar gloves and military thermal socks (he has some permanent nerve damage due to frost bite)
3. I and other family members have had to help out my son's family (gladly) because the gov't pays them so little while they sit back and make billions off of this war (Clinton included).
4. military bases used to be safe places to live. Now, gangs roam the entire base just like in inner cities. Why? Because the fathers and mothers have been gone too much and for too long! The families are in shambles, with increased divorce and domestic violence as never seen before. Why? Because as BHO has said (& he's the only one), "our troops are not being properly screened for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) when they come back." I'm a witness!!!
Again, I could go on. The point is HRC, Bush & McCain want the focus off the war, telling people the war and surge voted for is working. WHAT THEY DON'T SAY IS SOLDIERS ARE STILL DYING!!! Somewhere between 8 and 12 died this week alone. It makes me angry that the daily death rate has been reduced to a mere streamer at the bottom of the TV screen!!!! What's so sad is that they, with the help of the MSM, have gotten the people to fall for this; it's been pushed far down the agenda!
HRC doesn't want to focus on it because she can't get

Not because of what his pastor said, because most of his views were true...him being a poor black man in america. But, because of the way supporters have decided to drop B.O because of what his pastor said without research on why this man may feel this way. How many of us have sat in church and listened to views that didn't represent your own. It's because what comes out of the mouths of our spiritual leaders, usually, are words of love , wisdom, and godliness. One slip of the tongue, is not what makes a pastor, but what he has said throughout that has moved us in some way. I have heard what McCain's church leaders consist of....does Hilliary have a church?

While some of you may have let this recent unfortunate media smear distract you or even dampen your spirit, there are more of us for whom this is not the case. Fellow Obamacrats please listen! If you think that a man who is pereceived as an African American is going to be elected president of these United States (and he will be elected by the way) without the issue of race being raised, you are mistaken. If it wasn't the videos of Rev. Wright, it would be something else. Frankly, I do not think it is such a bad thing that the issue of race--which is indeed an issue in the U.S.--has risen in this campaign. How else will the country be brought together if it is not open to a discussion of this issue as will as those we are more comfortable with discussing--health care, education, etc. I am a college professor for almost 20 years now. I teach courses in intercultural/international relations. As I tell my students--the majority of whom are White--we cannot move beyond the issue of "race" or anything else by ignoring it or pretending that it doesn't exist. As true supporters of Obama, we must not be afraid of an open discussion of "race". Denounce, reputiate, dissassocite with anyone who sprue hateful words by all means. Also, often times what looks or sounds like anger/hate is actually the expression of feelings of hurt/pain. I certainly believe this is what we heard in the voices of both Geraldine Farraro and Wright this past week. Farraro, who may feel that she has been oppressed and discriminated against because of her gender, is openly dealing with her hurt through this process. It is important for us as believers in "change", "unity", "GOD", "prayer" and a better country and world to be open to a discussion of these issues. Otherwise, our campaign purpose and mission are no different from all the rest! Let's be encouraged and get back to supporting Barack in donations, making phones and door to door canvassing. I am calling a list of superdelegates and encouraging them to pledge their support of Obama. Please join me. See list this thread.

The process is unique for every individual, and it follows a nonlinear path, in short, healing takes time.

Greg, I was thinking this morning that my talking point is this:
How many people sit in their churches on Sunday mornings, listening to their preacher spout HATE against gays and lesbians, but think their church is very wrong to take that stance.
Are those people responsible for the hate and divisiveness that is being preached? Or are they responsible for how they treat gays and lesbians? How they ACT.
Even worse than that are the entire denominations that have a policy to exclude gays and lesbians. They don't just preach hate and divisiveness, they actually practice discrimination in a very deliberate way.
Is every person who belongs to that church responsible for that policy? For that discrimination? For that divisiveness? Or are they responsible for how they treat gays and lesbians? How they ACT.

Now, Obama is not any more a Muslim, but a Christian, which is very good.
-Now, every one has to know that a true Christian does not leave church because of Pastor unexpected comment. The pastor represents Jesus-Christ, and his message is, for us Christians, from God. Otherwise why going to Church.
-If you do not like the pastor's message, the most a true Christian would do is to just forget it, but it would be a serious disrespect to God to confront or humiliate his minister. You do not know if the message is truly from God him self. Even if you do not like it. Preachers tell us what Jesus-Christ want them to say, and not what church members or the media like to hear.
-Preachers work more for Jesus-Christ than for the country they are from. They are even supposed to go around the world to preach for Jesus-Christ. Also, the Bible says that the message of God appears some time creasy, stupid, and foolish for human, but it is right.
-In the Bible, a lot of people and countries disagreed with prophets and preachers because of theirs messages from God. At the end, ministers of God were right.
If you listen to Rev.Wright with a free mind, you would understand that the key of his messages could also come from God. Nobody would say that he/She knows what Jesus-Christ exactly thinks about situations around the world. Nobody would say that Jesus-Christ is a citizen of one particular country, so he has to think as a politician of that country would. His ministers around the world, including Rev. Wright, have to think in God's philosophy.
-About HRC comment, if you listen well to Rev. Wright, you would understand that he was just saying that Obama knows black's problems better than HRC because he had lived those problems most of his life. He was trying to convince blacks voters who were more for HRC than for Obama. This message could be his own, but a Christian would not leave the church for that. The tone has made it so estrange.
-Also, Obama would not any way be against whites. His mom was white. Let's be real.
-I recommand a debate at C-SPAN with Rev. Wright, so he can explain his message. I know, people would understand him even if some would disagree.
-We will contribute to finance it.

Sadly,
I heard on the news last night the IRS is investigating that church (Trinity) for talking about a political candidate from the pulpit, and could lose its tax exempt status.
Of course none of the evangelical churches did that to GOTV for Bush in 00 and 04.

African American ministers have always used the pulpit to endorse politicians. Bill Clinton is usually seen in black churches using the pulpit thanking ministers for thier endorsements. Remember when he was running for president in 1992 and even now as he campaigns for his wife, he is often seen in the black churchs at the pulpit with ministers.
The IRS can not go after Rev. Wright now after ignoring years of the same actions from other ministers. Senator Obama has said "The road to the White House will not be easy".
Lets remain focused on the issues and help Senator Obama by making calls to residents in PA.

I heard about the IRS thing a week or two ago on NPR. It's about an event where Wright spoke in New Jersey, I think. He was invited to speak there long before the presidential campaign was underway. It was scheduled over a year in advance. There were Obama supporters there, and told they could not be in the church. They did their Obama support thing outside on the public sidewalk and there was nothing the church could do to stop that.
It was not an event to sponsor Obama, and the media has poked into the story enough already to find this much out.

It is really an insult to think that America is still so uniformed that they would believe Barack is a radical racist. I suppose that is the message being conveyed. It is illogical, because it would make him hate his own mother. I in no way believe that is possible. I would urge everyone who reads this to focus on two things.
First,Barack entered this race empowered by hope, he brought a message so great that he brought people from everywhere together with one word,...hope. One of his opponents even called him a modern day messiah! All of this because he brought hope to much of the world (not just America) Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
Next, his Democratic opponent has never been questioned about her faith. Perhaps because it is not controversial. However, through his opponent, the people are now divided because of fear. Why is that? Fear is the exact opposite of faith. Does his opponent have any Love for the Lord at all? How can you love the Lord and gain by frightening and dividing the people? That is a question each one must pursue of his or her own accord.
I believe that true leadership requires having the ability to bring people together. It means touching hearts, and building the strengths of people. It does not mean filling hearts (that have often been broken) with fear.
This campaign cannot be transformed from a message of hope to a message of hate. I do not believe God will allow that to happen...but I urge those who are following this election to consider which candidate has been a messenger of hope, and which has been a messenger of hate, and consider how you want to live your life. Decide on what is true thereafter.

I would like to see more of Wright on television. This was not the rhetoric he heaped upon followers week after week. If he had done so every week, he'd be as reviled as Farakhan, who I don't support one iota, but know has been a powerful influence for the betterment of individual lives of people in this nation for decades.
Wright's Trinity United Church of Christ has been building community fromt he bottom up for decades. I'm confident proof of this is coming, but I'm also certain FOX won't give it significant airtime.

Thank you, VN. I teach English to international students from around the world, every day. We openly discuss ethnic differences almost every day. I, in fact, encourage my students to use the word "ethnicity" because it's 1) a more accurate way to describe ourselves and what's perceived as "race" -- a manmade notion only -- is just one part of that equation and 2) because the word "race" itself is inflammatory, not that it should be, but just hearing it makes some people uncomfortable.
Political correctness, which some take way too far, has kept people from speaking the truth for years. The truth sometimes hurts. Example: Black Americans held the lowest social status in this country only until the last few decades of Latino immigration. To acknowledge that is seen by some as somehow offensive to whites.
To blame me, a white individual, would be ridiculous. Wright is not a man who would do that, however. Acknowledging African-American history and experience through the eyes, hearts, and minds of African-Americans is simply the acknowledgment of a truth many white Americans haven't experienced.
Treating Wright like the plague is the WRONG thing to do. Using Wright's sermons will hopefully lead to more messages and presentations by Wright that have encouraged uplifting oneself and community from the lowest point on the socioeconomic ladder.
Treating Wright like the plague would make it appear Obama has something to be ashamed of. I consider his experience with his church to be something commendable, because I've read in his autobiography how he came to join it, and it's hardly offensive in any way. His story of how he came to join the church is moving and inspirational, and I hope it gets circulated.

IN 2000 AL GORE WON NEW HAMPSHIRE IN THE PRIMARIES, BUT LOST IT TO G.W. BUSH. THE KICKER IS THAT BUSH LOST N.H.
Since 1984 the primaries were already wrapped up by time the dems got to Pennsylvania.
Finally, for Obama, potential swing states like Virginia and Colorado (or others) would essentially undo the damage of a possible Pennsylvania defeat in the GE.

I want to first encourage all Obama supporters to be vigilant. America is a country that has not dealt with race relations in an effective way. Unfortunatley the issue of race rears its ugly head at the worst times, like during Katrina, or now during this very important election process. While I must consider some of Rev. Wrights comments over the top,I also understand that many simply may not like his delivery, but the deeper question in my mind that is really being overlooked is... Was there any truth to any of the comments Rev. Wright made? The fact is, many around the world feel America has been both arrogant and presumptuous in her foreign policy and the pre-emptive strike against Iraq is a prime example of that arrogance. The truth is, many white churches remain some of the most segregated places in America. The fact is, perhaps its time to find out why Rev. Wright feels the way he and many other Americians feel about race relations and other matters in America (angry) and if we begin to try to understand why he feels the way he feels instead of denouncing all that he has said (some of which may be very factual), we would all be better off for it. Even as America invaded Iraq, one of the big failures of going into this country was not understanding the people and as a result,America still struggles to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. We must stop the foolishness of wanting to kill (literally or figuratively) people with whom we do not agree and try the intelligence of trying to gain understanding which is what I think Obama is all about. Anyone who thought race was not going to be an issue in this campaign was naive to say the least. This process is painful but necessary. When one has life saving surgery you are left sore and uncomfortable before you heal and get better. That is what is happening in American during this process. Obama now has a platform to address and bring race relations or the need for them to the forefront.I pray continually for Barack and his family. I know this campaign has to put tremendous pressure on his mind, body and soul, but I continue to say to myself
YES WE CAN.... BECAUSE WE MUST!

What seriously concerns me is this. 1. How can a man sit for 20 years under the teaching of a man who has this strong of views and know him personally, and not hear what he says? That makes no sense. 2. Mr. Obama says that HE KNEW of the "Wright" words way back when he started his campaigne, yet did NOT remove him from a leadership role in his campaigne as a "spiritual advisor" until YESTERDAY when he HAD TO for his OWN good - To me - that is talking out of both sides of his mouth. If it bothered him THAT bad, why wasn't it done way back when? That goes directly to MOTIVE of this man's views. 3. I find it very odd that on CNN last night Obama said that Wright was a "SPIRITUAL ADVISOR", even has him on his campaigne in a leadership position - calling him his "spiritual advisor" yet, in this letter I just read on his website, he NOW REFUTES THAT???? I'm concerned. I'm very concerned now. I might Like Obama personally - his nature and personality. But what Im starting to see is a gross difference in what he says and the people he associates with. I'm sure other Obama supporters, some - will never want to realize the truth of what is going on - others - those who are critical thinkers - will see it for what it really is........... Mr. Obama - I like you personally - but I dont trust you anymore - I believe you just lied to me - I saw it myself on CNN in your statement, and now I read the opposite on your website. Can't ANYONE TELL THE TRUTH? Can't ANYONE stop SPINNING THINGS to fit what they WANT others to think of them? Can't ANYONE, SOMEONE - just be HONEST?????? I'm sure this will cause all kinds of dialogue - I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but this is just WRONG and had to be said. God bless you - Lesa M

Lesa,
1. He knew he had strong views--and that he was angry over the way people on Chicago's South Side and elsewhere in America have been neglected for generations. But during twenty years, he didn't happen to catch those 30 seconds' worth of specific statements that were cherry-picked out of hundreds of hours' worth of speeches. (I took the time to listen to other sermons he's given, and they were utterly different and quite inspiring. I say this, by the way, as a white person.)
2.He did not remove Wright from his advisory position earlier because he had not heard all of the comments. Also, this man had brought him to Jesus and thereby changed his life 20 years before. For that, he's grateful. Naturally, he wishes he didn't have to officially separate from him. But now that he sees there's no alternative, he has done so.
3. Wright has been his spiritual adviser in helping him learn to serve God through serving the less fortunate. Because Wright went overboard for those 30 seconds (and don't you think we would have seen more of that kind of thing if there were any more to see?) he can's have an official position. But shouldn't we count ourselves lucky that Obama took away from Wright such a rare and desperately-needed mission to help us Americans out of the terrible crisis we're in?
He's being absolutely honest: He isn't turning his back on the good he gets from that highly-regarded church and congregation, but he refutes and does not share Wright's more extreme comments.
What's upsetting about that?
Obama is, in fact, of a younger generation that hasn't had to suffer to the extreme that men of Wright's generation did, in the '50s and '60s. He, and we, are fortunate to be able to move forward from the justifiable anger and start solving the problems that caused it.

I will be honest. I am not here with a hidden agenda. I am not a troll. What I am is a Hillary supporter. With that said I would like to have an open dialogue to express what I have observed about this whole campaign. Let me just adress what is happening in the internet forum. What I have seen is very hateful comments being made about both candidates. On Obama friendly sites the hatred towards Clinton is very demeaning and despicable. The hatred on the Clinton friendly sites towards Obama is just as despicable. Now to me it did not seem to fit with the unity message of Obama and I could not understand how his supporters could be so hateful. So I had to step back and try to sort things out for myself. The conclusion I came up with is that no way true Obama supporters would behave in this manner. I know many of you have been to other blogs and have seen the vitriolic messages against Clinton. Ask yourself does this fit with Obama's message of hope and unity? No it doesn't. The same is true of Clinton supporters. (Well this Clinton supporter anyway as I cannot speak for all.) As a true Dem I do not condone any kind of discrimination at all. I too despise hate mongering. So I ask myself who does? Republicans do. So what I see happening is repubs posing as Obama supporters and Clinton supporters to create a division that cannot be healed. That is the only way McCain gets the whitehouse. You have seen these posers, you in the Obama blogs call them trolls, in the Clinton blogs they too are called trolls or Obamanots. What really set me off is on a Clinton friendly blog I noticed a blog asking would you vote McCain if Obama gets the nod? I daresay that Obama supporters have seen similar blogs asking the same if Clinton gets the nod will you vote McCain? I tell you that is exactly what the Repubs need to happen in order to win in November. I implore you to ask yourself who is the real enemy here? I will do my part and not buy into the negative spin the media is using to dupe the Dems until they implode. Hold your ground do not let the repubs ruin it for all of us.

Lesa, you are so correct. Judge the man by his words AND by his deeds. Who has ever heard Barack speak hateful words? Even when he has been under vicious assault, he has remained careful and respectful in his response. Who can report hateful deeds of this man? If they were out there, you can be sure that the Hannity/Limbaughs would have reported them by now. Lord knows, I would have lost my temper and lashed out at my attackers by now. But he never did. Barack's temperament is even and measured.
He has said many times that the best that is in him came from his dear deceased mother. Are we to believe now that he hates her? He has expressed his love and gratitude for his grandparents who assisted in his upbringing and education. Are we now to believe that he hated them all along? His father deserted the family when he was just two years old. He saw him once in his life to remember him when Barack, Sr. visited Hawaii and Barack was only 10 years old. He never laid eyes on the man again. So let us use a little logic here.
I have been a member of a black church since I was 12 years old. When I became a discerning adult, I heard things that I disagreed with and that I, quite frankly, detested. There is a tendency in some, not all, black churches to demean gays. And I have heard some hints at antisemitism in some, not all, black churches. I cannot express strongly enough the degree to which I reject, denounce, and abhor these sentiments and I have not hesitated to say so. Barack has spoken before black church congregations and spoken against the two sentiments I mentioned above. Note that he did not go to a gay pride event or to a Jewish event to do so. He did so IN the black churches he visited.
Rev. Wright has preached hundreds of thousands of minutes. As one young man said last night, it would be a shame to collapse his entire body of work down to two 30 second sound bites. And, yes, I found some of it to be over the top. But, quite frankly, certain aspects of it were undeniable. Also consider that the man is from another place and time. His experiences have not been Barack's.

Lady Di,
I agree with you. But I also know that WE THE PEOPLE can defeat this old ugly politics. Barack Obama has made me believe. By our words and by our deeds we must stand up and pronounce a resounding "NO, WE ARE AMERICANS FIRST! WE REFUSE TO LET YOU DRIVE WEDGES BETWEEN US. WE REFUSE TO ALLOW ANYONE TO DENIGRATE ANYONE ELSE BECAUSE OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF HIS/HER BIRTH, RELIGION, ETHNICITY, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS."
I firmly believe we can do this and confound the cynics. We can soundly reject the old politics of fear and devision and I believe that we have demonstrated our clear intentions to do so by our actions in this historic movement.
So let us be strong of heart and of good cheer. Do not fall for these ploys from the past. See the Rev. Wright controversy for what it is and move on. I do not hate or resent Rev. Wright. I know he is a man of his times. Since the campaign began, Barack has said he does not agree with some of his pastors rhetoric. And until I am presented with evidence to the contrary, I accept Barack's statements.

Hillary Defies Judge’s Mandate, That She Must Testify in LA COURT HOUSE!
PeterPaul Blog ^ | 2/22/08 | PeterPaul Blog
Posted on 02/22/2008 6:34:42 AM PST by OPS4
There was an extraordinary development at a hearing today in Los Angeles Superior Court in the Paul v Clinton et al civil fraud case against Bill and Hillary Clinton, prosecuted by Hillary’s largest donor Peter Paul. When Judge Munoz finally allowed Paul to commence discovery after a three year “appellate” hiatus, Hillary Clinton’s attorney declared that none of Hillary Clinton’s lawyers would accept a deposition subpoena on Hillary’s behalf.
Hillary will be dodging process servers while she is campaigning for President of the United States around the nation!! The sworn testimony Paul is entitled to take from Hillary as a former defendant and material witness that the Judge specifically stated he will not allow to be denied, is now being officially thwarted by Senator Hillary R Clinton!
Hillary has now made history again in her contempt for the Rule of Law. She has become the first US Senator and candidate for president of the United States on record to declare she will be effectively dodging process servers to avoid testifying truthfully about fraudulent actions that she has never personally denied in the sworn declaration she filed in the case! Link ABC 20/20 Shows Hillary Clinton is the “Liar” In Illegalities Exposed By Top Donor Peter Paul ABC 20/20 Corroborates Peter Paul Against Hillary ClintonSeven years ago Peter Paul began whistleblowing to the government and alerting the media of numerous illegalities committed by Hillary and Bill Clinton in order to win Hillary’s first election to public office. The multi-million dollar donor to Hillary’s Senate campaign that caused Hillary’s finance director to be indicted and tried in May, 2005, for hiding his contributions, and whose complaint to the FEC resulted in a finding that Hillary’s campaign broke the law resulting in the only FEC fine imposed against Hillary’s campaign, will begin the discovery process leading to a trial in Los Angeles later this year of the Clintons and others for destroying Paul’s public company.

thank you sherill for your comments as a african american my life experience is alot different from a great many people in the united states. in saying that what obama has experienced while growing up and watching people on the south side of chicago is alot different from someone living on the north side of chicago. the only thing that has kept the african americanh person sane and able to get up and face life and injustice each and every day has been our church and our faith in god. so someone can touch you spiritually that is the reason we choose the church that we belong to becomes someone made you feel good, welcomed and has given you hope for a brighteer tomorrow. that with god all things are possible. there are some things i find silly in my very own church and sometimes in church in general such as you must be dressed up to go to church does god really care what we wear to church? Does he care where you sit every sunday and no one should sit in your so called seat? I don't think so! The bottom line is as a pastor or preacher whatever your faith does he make me feel that through faith in the almighty i can make it another day can i leave church on sunday feeling good? If a pastor can do that for me i will go to his church. we must remember that the preacher is a man and that our faith in gods teachings are tested at times. let's not give up on barack because he believed in the good feelings he received from his church of twenty years a church that gave him a spiritual groundness. he has shown a love of people of all races. please vote for change and a rebirth in our great nation.

That too shall pass. We've always have trolls come and go. I remembered we used to have one in the early days named "Wayne" pestering us every single day like a zit that won't go away. Then he tried to be several different people pretending to be in agreement and Obama's supporters saw right thru him. He went away, and so will the trolls now. For all we know all these supposedly "new" trolls may come from one person.
Regardless, it won't last, they don't have the energy to keep up with the energy of real supporters. Once they find out that we're not easily swayed, and not as uninformed as they actually think, then they give up.

To all the people who have never heard the word "troll" before today.
To all the people on this board who are not immersed in internet "culture".
To all the people who have never experienced a forum invasion.
DO NOT BE ALARMED!
The controversy may have been started by the media and Hillary's backers, but the trolling and negativity on this site has nothing to do with her or her supporters. This is probably a concerted effort by a few White Nationalist/Neo Nazi types, as this follows a typical pattern of behavior from them on the internet. Fortunately, many of them aren't the sharpest tools in the box and one of them left a comment under the name Tripple K.
Tripple K.
Think about it.
Anyway, they are mainly unemployed single white males with a lot of time on their hands. They are desperate to see this popular movement fail, as a black president represents a rejection (and denouncement heh) of everything they believe in. As a measure of how misguided they are, most of them are supporting Ron Paul.
They are trying to disrupt and demoralize this entire blog, however there are probably less than 10 of them. 10 people creating accounts and posting for a few hours can spew a lot of rubbish as you have seen. Anyway, I just wanted to congratulate you on a stellar performance seeing as many of you have never seen a sustained forum invasion before. And be understanding about the trolls because people have been trolling Neo Nazi websites about President Obama for months now. Thank you for a wonderful board, I'll get back to lurking moar.

Ted Kennedy beat Jimmy Carter in the 1980 Pennsylvania primary, but it was Carter who won the nomination.
Secondly, Pennsylvania has not played a leading role in choosing a nominee in a quarter-century. Since 1984 the primaries were already wrapped up by time the dems got to Pennsylvania.
Finally, for Obama, potential swing states like Virginia and Colorado (or others) would essentially undo the damage of a possible Pennsylvania defeat in the GE.

We should not repeat any fox news crap on this site. We should not turn the TV to fox news. We only want to go forward with positive news and feedback. Barack have responded, now le us go forward with our campaign. Fox news is a republican station that is trying to do everything to demolish Barack. The republicans would rather run against HRC. We should be aware that this campaign is only starting to get ugly. It is good that Barack responded. HRC can't even begin to undo her scandals. The republicans will have a field day will they start to attack her. Barack won't go their, but the republicans will.

It's time to get back on track again. I'm so proud and impressed with the way he has handled himself, with all of the debacles the past few days. He just seems so strong and Presidential, no matter what is thrown at him. Barack has managed to even further convince me, that he's going to be one of, if not the best President this country has ever seen. I really look forward to Barack Obama receiving the Democratic nomination, and moving on from there, against John McCain. It's going to be a challenging, but exciting several months ahead.

I agree it is great news that he will out in the public eye tomorrow in Indiana. This is his opportunity to get the campaign back to the issues. Address the situation in Pakistan. What is President Bush doing about it? Address the threats on Prince Harry. Britian has been one of our greatest allies and someone in this country needs to stand up and show our support for the Royal Family as they have so loyally to the United States of America. We need to address the economy, which includes healthcare, gas prices, the mortgage fiasco which coincidentally some benefitted greatly from. We need to discuss these issues and get the focus back on the issues.
Go on the offensive against George W Bush's threat to veto the surveillance bill. Why is it so important to legal immunity?? What is he trying to hide?? No need for immunity unless a law has been broken. Can we have some sunshine on this issue?? And why isn't GWB not demanding the telecommunications cooperation in regards to wiretapping and surveillance?? Why isn't GWB asking the people of the telecommunications companies to show their Patriotism and continue to cooperate with the government in our efforts to combat terror. GWB has the audacity to ask us the American people to sacrifice our lives and those of our children for our country to promote democracy throughout the world and combat terror. Are the ownes of these telecommunication companies not Americans? or have they bought themselves a sit in the stands to watch the circus. It is time we tell our president that it is time for him to step up to the plate and begin to practice what he preaches. GWB's family's wealth is from OIL, yet he has the gull to tell us that he does not know tht gas is $4 at the pump. Talk about being out of touch. Are we to believe this?? Are his finances so well off he doesn't even look at his own portfolio?? OIL record high $110 barrell. Coincidence. Smoke screens to cover the corruption once again.

Guys,
We all know Barack is human and is not perfect by any means (as all humans).
But one thing we know. His opponents have spent over a year now scrubbing his record looking for any dirt they could find to bring him down with and all they have to show for it is kindergarten papers and baseless attempts to use things that people he has known have said in the past. Who among us in the world has kept strict associations with people who always said the right thing in every circumstance during their entire lives? NOBODY!
Seriously! These silly attacks should make us all feel so much more secure in the character of the man that we support so much because they clearly illustrate the fact that there isn't really any dirt out there to be found.
That doesn't mean that we do not have to fight back, but it does mean we are fighting the good fight.

Did anyone catch Donna Brazile on CNN recently?
There were some comments on dailykos having to do with Ms. Brazile. The report was that, while on CNN, she said words to the effect that the Democrats will know who their nominee will be within two weeks, and then the party will be one happy family.
It was also interesting to see someone else post a comment later in the dkos thread with very similar sentiments attributed to some sort of Democratic offical who was on a radio program in Baltimore on Wednesday.

I'm not saying it's true, just wondering if anyone saw the CNN appearance in question. I tried googling a bit, but didn't find anything relavent.

I saw the comment on Kos too but did not see the Brazile interview. Could be some MAJOR behind-the-scenes discussions are going on. Wasn't Brazile Al Gore's campaign manager in 2000? Maybe Gore is getting ready to do something. Remember that Teddy Kennedy came out for Obama after he couldn't take the Clinton tactics anymore. Maybe the party finally realizes that its time to "get real" with HRC.

Donna Brazile was the campaign manager in 2000.
The Clint-rovian tactics we are seeing are certainly not new. Remember Susan Klopfer from Iowa? The HQ blog had that video of her taking her Hillary yard sign down and replacing it with an Obama yard sign and her main reason for doing it was HRC's campaigning.
I have noticed a trend in which certain Clinton supporters post blogs or, in whatever format, announc, essentially, the same thing, i.e. "I used to be a strong HRC supporter, but I just can't stomach her tactics anymore..." or some variation.
For example, Senator Kennedy, as you pointed out, likely felt that way and this post from Seth Grahame-Smith also fits the bill:
Link
I don't have an exhaustive list, but I have seen Mr. Grahame-Smith's sentiments expressed numerous times in different places.
Then, the other night on Countdown, Keith Olbermann took Hillary and her advisors to task for the recent Ferraro comments via a "Special Comment."
Surely, that could have been a "straw that broke the camel's back" type of moment because, despite what anyone may have thought while watching Keith's Special Comment about Hillary, he is not an Obama partisan. In fact, I recall early in the campaign thinking he was most likely a Clinton supporter based on what I was seeing in his opinions expressed during his show and he specifically said before launching into his rant that he was not endorsing Obama.
Perhaps all of the comments, calls, e-mails and letters to the DNC and superdelegates, along with Olbermann's recent show might have created a tipping point. I know I have responded to the DNC's fundraising requests for money to fight McCain by saying that they won't be getting any money from me until Obama locks up the nomination. I know I'm not the only one too.
Oh well, we'll find out soon enough, but the theory just seems so plausible it's hard for me to not think about it!

I know, but I don't think Brokaw would have reported it if it wasn't true at the time. I suspect the loss of the TX primary and OH not being close enough might have caused that group of 50 to stay on the sidelines a bit longer.
However, three things have changed since then:
(1) There is a good case to be made that, now that there is no longer a competitive Republican race, that a significant number of GOP voters are voting for Hillary to extend or derail the Democratic nominating process:
Link
(2) Keith Olbermann really let HRC have it the other night. If even he is publicly saying that HRC is running a Republican campaign, you know that a lot of other people are saying it privately.
(3) Bill Foster won Dennis Hastert's old seat, in part because of Obama's endorsement and campaign support. Coattails are very important to a lot of races and most candidates in swing areas/states would much rather have Obama on the top of the ticket than the other candidate. Foster's victory might have been very persuasive to these people.
Can you tell that I really, really, really want this "over in two weeks" thing to be true? :-)
Please, someone. Make her go away.

Donna Brazil's comments have been increasingly more pro-Barack ... she gave a very supportive comment about the Dr. Wright story on CNN as it "broke" yesterday. Brazil is certainly a harbinger for Gore. I think that Gore will step in pre-convention as long as we keep our pledged delegate lead over 100, maintain the popular vote lead, and don't get blown out in Pennsylvania (especially with white voters -- we must get at least 25% of the white vote there). Once Gore steps in ... it's over ... we (and justice) prevail. It would be kind of fitting that Gore have a decisive role in picking the next president given what happened in 2000.

I heard they didn't get along or something?
Things I "HOPE" could happen soon:
1) Richardson endorsement
2) Edwards endorsement
3) Biden endorsement
3) Gore endorsement (Big Bonus)

Before Pennsylvania and Indiana this campaign will need Gore support, as well as the open support of many more SDs.
Do the right thing, Gore.

From the transcript of Friday's Situation Room on CNN (
Link
BLITZER: They got 40 percent. I think she got about 60 percent. She and Dennis Kucinich were the only names on the ballot, though, in Michigan. So, it wasn't exactly fair, by all accounts.
If Florida and Michigan, by the way, do get to redo, and they can be full participants at the convention in Denver, the magic number to win the Democratic nomination goes from 2,025 without those two states the 2,208 with those two states. We will see if Florida and Michigan can get their act together.
(CROSSTALK)
GALEN: I think you guys have done a great job so far. Just keep it up.
(LAUGHTER)
BRAZILE: And I think, at this rate, we will have a Democratic nominee before June. And, hopefully, the party will come together before August.
GALEN: So, you think the whole June 3 thing is just going to be a waste of that private money?
BRAZILE: Well, I'm hoping that, in the next few weeks, the Democrats will ultimately make a decision and we will have -- start having some peace within the family.

That's the exact quote - take it with a grain of salt.

Wow, that would be awesome. But I'm not gonna get my hopes up right now.
Although, with the Bill Richardson (at UCLA) clip and Pelosi saying that the supers will go with the pledged delegates and not the popular vote and Brazille saying similiar things and this tonight, it does kinda sound like the ground is being softened for the supers to put an end to this.
Letting it go past Penn where HRC will most likely win is a mistake and will only drag it out to a no-win-in-nov situation.
Come on supers show your leadership!!!

From my perspective, "Hopefully Clinton will have dropped out before then." If it's not her bashing him, it's FOX or some other "water carrier" or so-called news organization smearing him or someone else associated with him. Why can't people just be judged on their own merit? His is so obvious, it's scaring the right wing.

They keep forgetting that Barack could have never accepted or endorsed those comments anyways, yet they are inflamming this out for the rating.
Guilt by association is noting new in this country. One and a half billion muslims were labeled terrorists or following a terror religion because of the actions of 19 actual terrorists and those who supported them.

Anyone with half a brain knows that noone agrees with everything their pastor says. If this was truly a pattern with the pastor Barack would have left the church. He is not stupid. I am writing to express my deep admiration and respect for Senator Obama.
His swift, eloquent and forceful written response to the Jeremiah Wright issue; his courage in promptly appearing on MSNBC, CNN and even the hostile environs of FOX, and now his excellent video in which he denounces Rev. Wright's incendiary statements and convincingly reaffirms his own strong principles of patriotism and faith, all demonstrate the power of his mind, character and demeanor under pressure.
Surely this incident must cause Senator Obama personal pain; as he explains, Rev. Wright was the minister who counseled him spiritually, officiated at his marriage to Michelle and baptized their daughters. Yet he has the integrity and fortitude to both condemn the statements in question and remind us that this retired pastor is of another, older generation and sometimes speaks from the suffering and anger of that generation as well as from the profound hope that made that suffering bearable. With extraordinary wisdom, Senator Obama suggests that we treat this as an opportunity to learn -- to face bravely the divisions and suspicions that still plague our great country. We are advancing because so many people of all ethnicities and faiths are standing up, rejecting hatred as a way of life, conquering their fear and making the future happen.
"Guilt by association" cannot be allowed a foothold in our public or private discourse, or every single one of us will be condemned. Think of all our past and present associates, employers, relatives, friends -- the web of close and casual connections each of us has is endless. By what mad logic would it be claimed that they necessarily speak for us, that we share all their values and beliefs? And if the new rule is that congregations should stampede if they've ever heard foolish words from the pulpit, every house of worship in the country will stand empty and echoing.
Barack Obama is demonstrating, today and every day, the courage, character and judgment I want in my President.

Sen Obama needs to come out strongly against the tone the campaign has assumed in the past weeks and inform the American people that it is time for hillary clinton to drop out of the race. He is the front runner; therefor he cannot drop out. But the continual presence of Hillary Clinton in the campaign is not good for the Democratic Party. He should ask her to step down immmediately so we can focus on McCain
1. Hillary has gone back on her word regarding both the Fl and MI primary agreement and is now seeking to go against her commitment to ensure these delegates are seated. This is in direct violaction of the DNC rule which clearly outlined these elections would NOT count towards the nomination.
2. Hillary Clinton's winnings in TX, Oh, and her winning of the largest section of the white vote in MI is directly attributable to the large number of Republicans who are crossing county lines in an atempt to instigate a win over her by John McCain. Rove and Mehlan are now working for McCain. They are already engaging in 'questionable' campaign antics which only serve to further divide the Dem. Party.
3. How many Americans are aware that we are about to reach 4000 dead in Iraq, that Zimbabwe is about to conduct eletions to overthrow a dictator and that the UN announced it will meet its MDS to signficiantly decrease infant mortality? How many now exactly how many American homes have already faced disclosure, with hundreds of thousand pending, the dollar is at an all time low, that the military head of ops in the Middle East was fired this week because he would not support a war againat Iran?
These are issues ALL Americans should be familiar with, should be well versed in, looking for leadership in.
Obama should not have to do this alone. But he should demand a showing of support for his candidacy. He should lay his credentials on the table against Hillary's and ask for her to tell AMerican her plan on how she can win.Her candidacy means further and further alliances between MSM and the Rove Machinery. Hillary must know she can't beat McCain. (if she doesn't she's the only one) and if she plans to run this type of campaign against MCcain, we don't want it.

I want to respond to those are suggesting that there are groups of "white" people who are smearing. It is only a particular group of white people. We are in danger of breeding race issues, if we do this. I am a white person, who was raised by parents who were actively involved in the 60's. My mother was crying last night because there is so much so many fought and struggled for to get beyond this. Including whites. I was raised to judge people on who they were not to accept or denounce anyone on their skin color, religion, etc.. That it was okay to ask questions, form a good judgement and base my decision on who that person was on those merits. This does not mean I should have to accept all African Americans or be considered a racist, nor shoudl it mean I accept all caucasions becuase they are of my same ethnic background. While I do not pretend to understand or have any idea what its like to be African American in our society, I do know what its like to be a human being. I am now the mother of 3 children. At one point we moved from an urban area to a small town. My son's fought through judegement merely coming from an area that was diverse. My sons were taught that not speaking up was the same as condoning behavior which led to my son being ostracized by his football team for demanindg that racial slurs not be tolerated. Eventually by his senior year, he created group that was anti-war and small groups to deal with fears about racial differences. This is was in an area that was 70% republican. I am proud of him for not being more concerned with popularity over doing what is right. When you are a white person who is not racist, you are attacked as well. We are accused, Tucker just did it agian the other night, saying its "Liberal guilt". I am not guilty by association becuase I am caucasion. We, for generations, have a history of fighting oppression for ALL people. I just think its dangerous if we start to allow race to divide us in any way. To me things are better presented when we remember what we all have in common. No-one of any race should have to surpress who they are.

It's not a glitch per se, it's how the software was set up before they cooked up the unique donors counter. There are multiple (sets of?) machines handling all of this site's traffic and each server keeps track of the donations made on it. At some regular interval, they are reconciled. So most of the time, they'll have some variation between them. As load is balanced between the machines, the differences should not be too huge. Hitting refresh on that image will most likely take you to a different server, giving a different number.

As I recall, the 1 million donations in 2008 (the number that this link refers to) was a week or so after the 1 million donors for the campaign. Some time late last month as well, MAYBE in the first day or two of this month. I posted about it in a thread back then.

to say he is proud to be the first African American to have all but clinched the Democratic Nomination, to say that when he began this cammpaign he had great dreams for America, dreams that thie election signified a movement of true change in America, an opportunity to show that race was no more significant a reason for not voting for him than any other reason... maybe it is time for Sen. Obama to express his pride in his heritage and his vision of himself as a candidate who would be 'turning the page' on the nation's history of bigotry and social injustices. But that now, over the course of the past few weeks, he realizes that not all Americans are ready for this moment, that many of us still fall prey to the politics which have continued to divide us and prevent us from moving forward as a united America. Obama should say he is a Black American running for President and that with this heritage he carries along with him generations of African Americans who lacked his opportunities, and that he owed those opportunities to the struggles they fought, the discriminations they overcame. The marinalizations so many African Americans, as well as Hispanic Americans, poor Americans, geographically challenged Americans, Muslim Americans, disabled Americans, Veterans, Mentally handicapped Americans ... and female Americans.
It is now time for America to engage in honest and open dialog about our past so that we can bring all of, our failures, our successes, our discontented and our fortunate together in this movement to elect him as president. Obama understands the fury of Rev. Wright. And the sentiments expressed by Rev. Wright reflect the emotions of many African Americans from that era, but there are still many African Americans today who have not yet been given reason to believe that there is an equal place for them in a new America. Nor are there places for other disenfranchised groups.
Obama must address and teach about the uncercurrent of this anger. The anger, frustration, disappointment and lack of hope is now evidenced throughout American society.

Furthermore, Barack is a distant cousin of both President Bush and Vice President Cheney, which explains why he's so talented in politics. However, his views are good and focus on unity, instead of bad and focusing on divisiveness that Bush and Cheney do.

Sen. Obama needs to move the campaign from beyond the distractions of the past week and back onto discussing the real issues facing real people --- the economy, the housing market crumbling, the bank/mortgage lender industry on the verge of insolvency, the dollar not worth the paper its printed on, and gas prices going through the roof (and let us never forget American soliders being killed or wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan everyday).

Obama is trying to get people to see past his race. We still live in a very prejudiced society, but Barack has a knack of showing us the type of person he is inside, and, once you know him, you don't even register his ethnicity. If you've noticed in state after state, the prejudice is reflected in the polls. But when Obama campaigns in those states, the people gradually get won over. They no longer see a black guy running for president, they see a smart, hard working, responsible man of integrity. So should he throw all of that progress out the window and remind us how he's the "black man that beat the odds", and the "brother that feels our pain"? I'm fairly sure that would turn a successful run for the presidency into a train wreck.

Jeremy,
I think he considers himself African American, and based on history, most do as well, however, you make a GREAT point in that the TOTALITY of his racial makeup should not be marginalized.
People need to know he is a product of his heritage. Having two parents of different races has given him a unique perspective, in that he can understand and empathize with BOTH sides.
Whites (and Blacks too) need to realize this, instead of assuming things about him. Instead of trying to label him as the "Black candidate," he needs to be seen as a man with an unusual background, one that makes him uniquely qualified to bridge the gap between peoples of diverse races.
Unfortunately, the Clintons and the vilest elements in my party (I'm an African American Republican) are painting him into the "Black" corner, and it's stifling his message. This above all else infuriates me. As a country, it seems we have not come very far at all. The media circus today demonstrated this in painful detail.

He's not Half that or Half that, he is actually one whole human being, a whole man.
What right / responsiblity do any of us have to divide him into pieces, to over ride what he says about himself, his race...how is that possible?
...It's all positive, all good. Not taking away from any part of him as an outstanding person.
Another point...who here is really PURE -anything besides BEING pure HUMAN BEING?

There is no exhortation to Nationalism from the Bible that I know of. The instruction is to Love God and your fellow man.
I don't understand what it means to love or hate a country? A country isn't an entity. Are people saying they love the ground or the ideology?
If it is ideology, is it all the ideology? I mean many social conservatives hate abortion, and it's legal here. The mistake Pastor Wright made was that he wasn't specific. He should have said God damn an overly aggressive foreign policy. Maybe God damn inequality in this country. The idea that he hates the entire country is absurd, because is own congregation is part of the country. Looking back in our history, there are many things that should be condemned. His biggest mistake was being too general, and not specific.

Since his followers know that he preaches for social justice, it would only make sense in that context to all of the. He probably didn't feel the need to elaborate when in front of his own congregation. I'm certain he never expected all of us to analyze his words or word choice!

*i had posted on old blog, now moving it to new blog*
i am interested in traveling to PA with others from new england. friend me if anyone wants to carpool to campaign. i have joined a committee and am doing some internet research for it. it is pretty exciting because it is an issue i care for a lot.
i have heard some ideas mentioned about a nationwide night for barack stand for change before PA. i think we could pull this off, really. that would be huge, especially while all the silly stuff was going on, it would speak volumes. how can we get this done? first, we need an over-seer with the vision. we need organizers, one head one per state, and another person to deal with the live feed aspect. i am not coordinated enough to organize it, but i am willing to be a part of something like this. first, should we create a group for it, where we can communicate at least and get a running list of who is interested and willing? please respond or friend....thanks.
hey all, i thought it was a night-owl who first proposed this idea. i recognize a lot of names, so cannot remember who. i think it would be a great idea, on a night before PA elections, to hold a nationwide stand-for-change rally. someone had mentioned live-feed speeches, which may have to take place in smaller venues. but, even without a feed, we could have supporters just gather in different cities for a candle-light 'vigil' (is that for death?? LOL cuz that would not be good...what other word than vigil?) anyway, i just think the idea of as many supporters as possible getting out one night would be awesome and it would speak to the fact that the "demographics" are a lie. what do you think? ok, well, i am revved up for this, so i keep posting it--do not burst my bubble :-( anyway, i must go nuke a pizza and go to bed (hungry and tired not good). i think starting a group for this would be a good idea, at least to begin discussion. five weeks is a lot of time, and i for one, need something positive to focus on, as i am sure MSM will be all silly for the next few at least. :-)

Yes. Totally and completely. People I know who only get their news there are extremely intolerant. They repeat everything said there, visit O'Reilly's Website (which is dangerous in itself because it basically tells people what to think, what to read, how to "debate" people, etc.), and listen only to other people like Bill whom Bill endorses. When I "debate" these people, they cut me off, yell at me, twist my words, don't use clear logic, etc.--just like Bill and others model for them over at Faux news.
If you've never seen "Outfoxed," I'd recommend putting it on your video list. It's actually on You Tube--in full.

I agree that Barack should not condemn his long time Reverend. Would you disown your parents for sharing a different value system from your own? The racial issues still exist in America because people are afraid to discuss them. Yes African Americans have been discriminated against in our country and we acknowledge this and are as a country trying to repair the damage of our ancestors. The Reverend Wright should not be condemned by remarks. Is he not envoking passion in you? This is what makes a good minister. He can capture an audience. The media needs to present his life story as a whole and not just a snip it presentation slanted towards provoking hate in America. If Sean Hannity continues to try to presecute Barack, I feel he will ruin his career forever. Mr. Hannity needs to take step back and put himself in the shoes of Rev. Wright. It is my understanding that Reverend Wright served in the United States Marine Corp. Does that sound unpatriotic to you? Mr. Hannity needs to stop his nonsense and admit that his candidate does not cut the mustard so he has to resort to negative campaining. What a sad little man.
That is why Barack needs to continue to be forthright with the truth as he has and stand by his convictions. Speak about the issues - Redirect the troops to the real war on terror, take away the tax cuts for the record breaking business men of the oil companies and have them send the checks directly to us. These topics need to be discussed. Address the negativity and bring on your message of HOPE and how we can rise above this hate and unite our country. We are all AMERICANS and together we will bring honor back to the United States of America. WE should not allow the media to destroy what we have accomplished in this country. No more partisianship. No more racial, gender, financial divide. Together we can spread HOPE towards a brigher future for the United States of America.

HI there. Here's a short story you all might find helpful today. At the time of the 9/11 attack on our country, I was working as a reporter for a paper in a rather large Texas city (Pop 485,000)
As it was our wont,we took turns each day writing an opinion column. The day after the horrendous attack which the entire staff watched, many in tears,an intern -- a foreicn national -- wrote her opinion column -- saying pretty much the same as Rev. Wright said in his rant. It was published. As the government reporter, I got a call from the mayor asking me who this person was who wrote this column.. I told him it was an intern, a Chinese national, as she was, and referred him to our editor. Editor's response? To give her the next day's column space to justify why she said all this. No apology. Were our readers mad? Yup. Did a few cancel their subscriptions? Yup. Did they get over it? Yup. Was she fired? Nope.
I pray daily for Barack who has been denigrated like no other condidate I've seen.
we can do two things; We can contact every Superdelegate. To find out which are in your district, ck out www.cnnPoloitics.com, scroll down below the map and click on your state's first letter.
Secondly, please feel compassion for PA folks when we call or visit. PA Gov. Rendl has labeled them as racists " who won't vote for someone who isn't white." ... I've lived in PA and that just isn't so.
Barack: I pray for you daily. Your decency, brilliant mind, love foro our Constitution and our country, and your compassion shows every time you speak.
Besides, I won't vote for anyone but you. I dont want just okay, I want the best. Hannah, a recently retired journalist and veteran US Navy medic Hannah

While I appreciate your idea and certainly don't want to burst your bubble, I think a nationwide rally will scare the citizenry and therefore have detrimental effects for Obama's nomination. My dad used to say, "remember this is an election, not a revolution." And while some might thirst for a revolution, this is not the time. The economy is tanking, folks are without jobs, they are losing their homes, and they are trying to figure out how to deal with the rising price of food and gas. At times such as these, people tend to become more conservative, not less. Fair enough. Folks want to know how Obama is going to help them deal with their very concrete and real problems. A large rally of folks screaming change will more than likely head them over to McCain's camp. I saw on a blog a few days ago the idea of Obama supporters organizing a kind of "national day of service to the community." I think this is a better way to go--actually helping local communities in a myriad of ways. Our slogan could be something like, "Not just standing for change, but working for it everyday."

They stole the election to get into power. They then set to work vigorously shredding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. They eagerly manipulated government agencies and federal employees so they could occupy foreign countries and secure oil deals and create tremendous oil pipelines. They falsified documents and altered testimonies to prop up military invasions and illegal occupations. They hurled ridiculous lies on the population in an effort to spread fear through the masses and subvert their will.
They looted the country's treasury and gave away many generations' worth of funding to a small handful of huge corporations. They pillaged and contaminated the land, air and water. They detained people without charge, tortured them and some have still not been released or identified or charged with a crime.
They have disregarded the rule of law, the nations' legislative and judicial branches of government and ignored and subverted the will of the population. And they have imprisoned and harassed some of those who stood up and protested this injustice.
These leaders partnered with many sinister nations to carry out serious misdeeds. Covert plans and actions were carried out counterproductive to national interests and many questionable regimes and organizations were supported and rewarded....
These criminals are working as hard as ever right now, as we speak - carrying out their sinister work. As I type this, laws are being ignored, innocent people are being tortured, good and loyal soldiers are being killed and the cohorts of these leaders are making off with the lions share of the US Treasury.
These criminals have left us mired in two lost wars, the largest terrorist attack and single greatest loss of life on US soil still not properly investigated, our economy heading into catastrophe, and our democracy teetering on the brink of collapse.
These people are in our government right now. We have to stop them. We have another year of this. We are all being distracted, intentionally and carefully, so that we will not fully notice what they are doing in their last few months in power.
Obama is the only one that can possibly stop this madness. We should remember this always.

Amen to that, Joe.
We are being distracted while more and more people are being laid of work and kicked out of their homes due to foreclosures. It's a sad state of affairs when the MSM is so wound up over something said by a pastor (not Sen. Obama)...instead of reporting the real news.

Hate to break it to you but gas prices are never going to come down. Gas prices are high because the world is running out of oil. Supply and demand.
Yes, oil co. profits are high but even if oil companies were nationalized and run as non-profits, the price would still need to be nearly as high or people would use too much and cause shortages.
One of the few things that bums me out about Barack, is that like all other politicians he can't be straight with the people about this particular issue. All politicians like to talk about high gas prices to show that they feel the people's pain. But that's really not the issue. The issue is that we are running out, prices can never come down, and in fact with the danger of global warming we are STILL using far too much gas, and really it would be better if gas were $30 a gallon instead of $3.
But you just can't tell people that, now can you. I can't blame Barack for it, but the world is in for some nasty shocks if we don't start getting it thru our thick skulls. Need to bike, ride the bus, live closer. Agitate for nuclear-powered electric trains, or something. Don't mean to be negative, it's just the way it is. No other option. I actually feel pretty positive about it... cars are mostly just smelly and dangerous, and I for one will be glad to live in a world without traffic.

Gas Prices are high because the Oil Producing Nations of the world are keeping the supply low on purpose - this is what happened in the 1970's - and what is happening now. We should use this time to really invest in alternative energy because most Americans are only interested in the environment when they see a direct connection to their pocketbooks.
Gas prices will come down when the Bush administration leaves office.

Hey why are we worrying about gas prices? We all own a Prius, right?
In all honesty, my wife and I test drove one today. Pretty nice car. We will probably buy it.
Now all we need is the birkenstocks and the trustfund (I already sip lattes).

Hi MrHusseinChuckles,
Prius' are GREAT! Everyone should get one. My husband and I have four children and we still got rid of our minivan and got one. Luckily, one son is in college so we rarely have the six of us needing to go somewhere at once, but when we do, we just pile in. We've gotten quite the stares when all six of us get out of the car. Anyway, we average about 50 mpg. And the back of the car is plastered with Obama bumper stickers! In fact, I find most Prius' wear their views with bumper stickers.

Excellent use of analogy to explain where we are, and how much work it will take to recover from the psychological, social, emotional, physical, economic, political, legal assault on all of us.

Clinton is finished, yet she desperately spins anything that can harm Obama, knowing that her ceiling of support is basically 51% so she has to tear him down; it's a pathetic spectacle that gets older as each day passes and Billary inches closer to the inevitable precipice that they will ultimately--and thankfully--plunge off in a few long weeks.
When, if ever, will the Clintons wake up and realize that it's over, that unless they rig the superdelegates and steal the election they can't possibly claim this victory? Imagine Clinton, loser in states, delegates, and popular votes to the first democratically elected African-American nominee!
Get ready, they will try anything...this will all blow over just like the Ferraro issue in a few days.

It's not the Clintons that have to realize the futility of her campaign, it is the superdelegates. Those ***holes are sitting on their duffs, watching the party rip itself to shreds, when they could get together and put a stop to it immediately. What are they waiting for? They must know they cannot allow HRC to be the nominee; she will not win with the perception of a stolen nomination from Barack. Don't they realize that every day they wait adds a half percent to John McCain's eventual win in November? This is madness.

Thank you Barack for being the leader that you are. It must be really difficult to face all this negativity when all you want to do is improve this country and help people. Thank god that you are strong, courageous, dignified, intelligent, well mannered, humorous and even tempered. I admired you greatly and I appreciate all you have given us. I will not abandon you or your campaign, because I know a genuine person when I see one. God bless you and keep up the good fight.

i really think the fox news network profits from catering to the racist and ignorant tendencies of the people who watch that channel.
that's why i think it's a danger to society because it feeds and fuels hatred and intolerance in a large group of people.

You are 100% correct on that.
One thing I've always wanted to know about Obama is where he stands on the issue of media reform. Does anyone know if he has any opinions on it? I know that John Kerry is very much in favor of it.
