About two hours after a midnight beta launch, the site is already coming to life.
So far, so good. There's a team of nine of us, a few content-types like me and some more geeky (in the good way) tech folks, sitting on a conference call going through tiny tweaks and issues. Please let us know if you run into any issues by using the contact-us form and selecting the "reporting a technical problem" in from the drop-down.
The site is already brimming with groups, blogs, fundraising pages, and events. Getting started early are Idahoans for Obama and South Carolinians for Obama, just to name a few of the many newly-created groups.
Folks are also up and blogging already, including Nathan in Quincy, Illinois:
Tonight I am sitting in my dorm room getting ready for bed because tomorrow I will see the next President of the United States announce that he, Barack Obama, is running for President. Right now I am feeling nervous and anxious, but I can't imagine how the Senator feels. A freshman in college this year has been about a lot of new beginnings and I can't wait for this new beginning.
... and William in Maryland:
Well, I can honestly say, I have never been this motivated or energized about a political campaign! I will soon be 33, and I have not voted in a presidential election since 1992. Needless to say, I will be watching Sen. Obama's speeches tomorrow!
We're still working here, and will be for a little while longer. But as we wind down our evening in the wee hours this morning, our mobile video crew is waking up and getting going -- they're off to the event site in Springfield at 4 AM to set up.
If you're still up reading this, don't worry -- you won't need to wake up that early. You can watch the announcement speech live from Springfield, Illinois at 10:55 AM Eastern, 9:55 AM Central, 8:55 Mountain, 7:55 Pacific. We'll have links available to the live video stream right on the front page of the new BarackObama.com.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words about the site so far. This site will always be a work in progress, but everyone here is excited to see what we can do together.
