Post from Rick Watts's Blog:
When They Smile In Your Face
Rev. Wright went ole school on the media and others when he referenced 'the dozens' in his explanation to respond at this particular time, at this very moment, in the larger scope of his perceived rise to prominence.  What many others and myself are wondering is, 'What's going on here?'  How can the pride many of us feel be broadsided by this person (not issue) that did not have to be.  Not at this time.  I must admit, this is a very clear speaking man.  On the other hand, this man, clear thinking as he may be, believes that he could subliminally sabotage, as he attempts to re-direct his failures as an attack on the Black Church.  His attempt to redirect was elementary.  Does he understand that there is a presidential campaign of unprecedented proportions being waged;  that this campaign has meaning and his connection to it would be a bonanza to his ministerial cause; that many are involved; that so much more than any issues that he may have with the candidate are minisqued to the larger picture?  Then, after listening to the careful structure of his speeches, it hit me.  Sure he does. He knows what he is doing.  That is why is he smiling.  However, someone has to tell him, "Rev. Wright, this is not funny.  It is not about you"  I would say he is deliberately trying to do damage to Sen. Obama's ascendancy to the presidency.  And I have seen it before, I think of what's going on and it brings to mind an old, but meaningful song by the O'Jays that warned, "They may smile in your face, all the time wanting to take your place, the back stabbers, back stabbers."  Yeah, it has been rumored that Rev. Wright could not take being overshadowed by anyone.  A State Senator, a U.S.Senator, nor a gifted leader.  This is now being reported as one of Rev. Wright's flaws.  Like many pastors, they have a 'me' complex.  Don't get me wrong, not all of them.  But, most of them are prima donnas.  For twenty years, as long as he did not overshadow the pastor, all was fine.  However, if you are gifted, and emerge from one of those environments, you would encounter the wrath of a back stabber, back stabber.  However, there was some words of wisdom in his many diatribes.  If GOD is willing Barack to be president, he will be.
